❛ i thought you’d like some company. ❜ ( Abe being rarely nice // @cabbxges-and-kings )
"I usually do," Ada admitted with a quick, hesitant smile - it was still hard to do that, to smile at other people. She kept feeling as if she'd be attacked for it. But Abraham as far as she was concerned was one of her saviors for letting her stay there until fully recovered, and that helped her soften up. She usually didn't get it, however, so she wasn't sure of how to make conversation. Not without little Thomas there as a buffering, at least. "How... are... your cabbages?"

Though as nails, yes, she thought with amusement, watching that curious, adorable child who was clearly feeling quite comfortable and safe around his father. "Oh, Thomas!" Well, that made far more sense to her now. Thomas, like her dear one. "Yes, I can see you are not fragile at all, a strong little man," she told him playfully, now less worried about breaking him by accident.
"No. And this is the very first time I see a child," she explained, and then remembered that that was not the norm, obviously, in fact it had to be quite weird. "My father never had anyone with children at home, or at least not inside the house, and even if he had invited guests I hardly would have been allowed to see them-Do you... Were you told about that? About my... upbringing?" she asked cautiously, because she knew Hewlett was very aware, and she thought Abraham's father knew enough as well but he seemed to consider the topic too delicate to be brought up without reason.
𝐀𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞𝐝. Thomas was delicate, and it’s what plagued Abe a couple of weeks after his birth. He had a son, it was his, and he imagined he would have one, but shook his world when it became a reality. Thomas was his son, he was so small, so delicate, that Abraham was a little bit too gentle around him. A father’s protection was instilled early in him, but now he realized Thomas wasn’t as delicate as he once imagined. He hardly cried much after an injury and Thomas always watched his footing, more than most children his age. He was always quiet, perhaps too quiet for his own good. Thomas was stronger than most, perhaps stronger than his own father some days.
❝ They can be. But Thomas? Nah, you’re tough as nails, aren’t ya’? ❞ He slipped back into that soft tone, his fingers stroking over his shoulder. Abraham looked down at his song, his fingers brushed over a wild curl at the end of his hair. He watched as Adelaide reached out to touch his hair, still hesitant and gentle in her movements, whether she believed Abe’s reassurance or not. Abe smiled at the nickname. ❝ No, his name is Thomas. Not Sprout. It’s either Greek or Hebrew. ❞ He had overheard this at the dinner table with his father when his brother was around. Richard often used this as another way to praise Thomas, always finding something to delight himself over his son.
❝ You don’t have any siblings of your own? ❞ Abraham looked up at her, his hands falling back to his hips. He assumed that with her inexperience with children, she hasn’t had the experience of raising a sibling.

Anna's gaze only falters downwards long enough to fold an officer's linens and uniform. "A --FEW-- times?" She scoffs, her dark brow tugging upwards with incredulous bemusement. "When?" Comes her challenge. Glittering eyes dare him to disprove her closely held assumptions.
His inquiry into whether he is a hermit or not causes her to fizzle into laughter. "Well, I suppose," she starts with MOCKING STERNESS, "that all depends on how much of pest you can make yourself." With a sigh, her voice segways into something more unabashedly pained. "Sides, I haven't seen you-- since the fall."

Turn Week Day 2: Content-Creator Appreciation!!
as a maker and enjoyer of plenty of turn content, i figured it'd be best to celebrate my fellow creators by sharing some posts that other users have made that have literally impacted me psychologically. seriously, this community is the best and the content is always just *chefs kiss*
starting off with the iconic "hey man nice hardwood" post by @calebbrewster bc it is like THE legacy turn post for me and i still think about it almost daily
and if we want to talk about life altering posts, this post by @hewlettscute that was literally HOW I FOUND OUT turn was being taken off of netflix during that whole scandal
and speaking of scandal, i have to include the turn sexyman poll by @viola-ophelia that kicked off one of the most fun moments in my entire turn fandom experience
on the topic of polls, the most competent member of the ring poll by @hmsannlett that had abe at 0% was, in addition to being hilarious, a true moment of fandom unity
and perhaps one of the funniest shitposts i've seen recently is this series of turn imagines by @cabbxges-and-kings with additions from @viola-ophelia that took me on a JOURNEY
and i have to include when @tallmadgeandtea proposed that we send them to a white lotus because i have not been able to stop thinking of that concept since (if anyone wants to write a white lotus au crack fic this is me begging)
and, to conclude, i have to shout out this "little miss" post by @ms-march which nailed me down a little too well for my liking

Thank you for the follow back! I've been toying with putting my muses in earthly-historical verses but I am less than studied on the Civil War and the Regency era. [My background was Medieval Europe and the European Witch-hunts.] I can make most of my darlings human it's just getting the setting right!/
@xxofloveandlossxx / Thanks much-ly, likewise! That’s really cool!
I think @lvsteternal, another friend, wrote her masters thesis on V.iking burial rites predating C.hristianity, mini clarification. At least, based on numbers (oc and canonical/historical). My greatest number of muses is 18th century/late 18th century/rococo/american war of independence. For that, I ‘blame’ (affectionate) @honorhearted / @curseconsumed, @annastrxng & @historiavn.
The rest of my blogs are here. I swear, despite how amrev centric this particular blog is, it’s not my only historical interest. For everything 1860s, go to @rmstitanics / @historiavn.
Here’s a list of 6 other cool historical RPers…
@honorhearted - my initial inspo for writing Tallmadge at all, our portraits of the young abolitionist spymaster are not the same and utilize different readings of his characterization/historical persona, but I hadn’t heard the name ‘Culper ring’ since grade school and now we’re here, also her ocs, here.
@annastrxng - the Anna Strong of all time, also, a wonderful person and very welcoming.
@cabbxges-and-kings - she deserves a gold medal for writing Abe Woodhull as she does, enough said.
@audaciiae - the ‘spicy Quaker’ of all time, love me some good Robert Townsend content, those who sit upon the fence are impaled by it.
@neroengland - new friend! Despite the fact, we in the history community cannot stand Henry viii, they understand how terrible he is, as a person (Henry viii and George iii were actually very relatively enlightened monarchs in context of their given times, I’m not condoning either/any monarch, but context matters a lot) and still are able to get in the T.udor monarchs mind and make him at the very least relatable to someone (me) whose a six wives defender to the core.
For more, go here.

( ooc ): Making a little announcement here since I'm still using this blog:
I moved my multimuse (sharp-teeth-and-wide-grins) to its very own blog, so no sideblog attached to it. I'm still using this one (this main you're reading from) for all my other blogs, so bladedwoe, lcstloyalty, cabbxges-and-kings, shxrp-teeth-after-dark is all still under this main blog. My multimuse is under a different email entirely and is now its own blog.
I hope this clears up any confusion!

TURN WEEK 2023: DAY #2
CONTENT CREATOR APPRECIATION DAY.
So since I'm still relatively new to the Turn fandom and haven't had the chance to discover a ton of content creators outside of the RPC yet, I'm gonna go ahead and make this a little bit of a promo-type post for some peeps that have really amazing portrayals of both canon & original characters, as well as other content creation like fanfic writing or edits. Give them a follow, you won't be sorry!

turn week day 2: content creator appreciation day!
Fair warning, this is mostly going to be rp blog related because that's the corner of the fandom I'm in mostly. I write on here and cabbxges-and-kings.
1. @annastrxng I always really treasure our threads from Hewlett to Abe to Rogers. I really love our Anna & Abe thread, even if it was crack related because of the cabbage cake. I feel like we have bridged the gap between Abe and Anna and how the writers gave them little to no chemistry. We have added more life to their ship than the writers ever cared to do. I always enjoy the chaotic nature of Rogers and Anna interacting and his dynamic with Philomena, both people wronged by Andre and their circumstances to where they come together by a mutual need of revenge. I also enjoy our Annlett threads and the idea of Ellie in the mix of s4, strengthening Hewlett's character arc in that season. I feel like nobody has the best grasp of Anna but you. I also really treasure our one thread of Hewlett and Elizabeth bonding over pirates, haha.
2. @honorhearted We've been writing for so long, I can't possibly talk about all our threads together. I fondly look back on our Hewlett & Ben Horse Girl Book ClubTM thread and can't help but imagine what could've happened in the show if they met personally. That thread really helped me develop Hewlett as a whole with how his past impacts the present. We also finished what the writers didn't care to finish between Rogers and Ben. Also the Abe and Ben bonding moments. You listen to my random ideas and you're always willing to interact with whoever, so I really appericate that. Thank you for joking around with me in dms and supporting my madness and to continue writing with me for 2 years.
3. @pagetreader A new mutual of mine. I always enjoy the thought and the depth in all your ocs and I can't help but notice how well you write Peggy. I really need to get to our drafts, but I'm really looking forward to exploring more with your ocs and seeing where our dynamics take us!
4. @calamity-bean This is a random mention because you aren't a roleplay blog, haha. But I've looked through your meta analysis of turn and I love every single one! I also loved your fic! I know you don't post turn content anymore, but I just wanted to mention you because I loved the way you explored the characters when turn was running. I also really enjoy your artwork in general.
5. @multipleoccupancy We haven't written in a while due to our busy schedules, but I still look over our stuff in my drafts. I'm always fond of Hewlett and to find another who appreciates him as I do and writes him with my muses is always a joy. I feel like you have a really good grasp of his voice and his mannerisms that I can't help but read your threads for him on my dash.
6. @anoseforrottenapples Best Mary hands down. I feel like Rose captures Mary perfectly to where she could've wrote her herself. I'm always amazed with her depth into Mary's background that all her headcanons are basically canon in my mind when I think of Mary. Rose is also very sweet and is always super supportive of my ocs, I couldn't appericate her more for it.
7. @retrograderesemblance I can't even begin to talk about all our dynamics throughout the year we've been writing, haha. I love how chaotic to complex our dynamics have gotten over time. I still re-read our threads from time to time. I think Lydia wouldn't be the oc she is today if she didn't interact with your muses. I always enjoy our ooc madness and how we can go from that to complex plot meta chatter. I really treasure all our threads, new and old, and I love how our writing flows so well together (and how our muses are almost seamless in the way they naturally interact with one another, like Sarah and Sean for instance).

“ i’ll get you out of this. trust me. ” ( Abe // @cabbxges-and-kings ) from protective meme
Ada didn't cry often, especially not as often as she could considering what her life had been, but she couldn't help it now, when the men had come to collect her so she'd speak to the magistrate who had taken her case: she had recognized one as a guard who had worked for her father, and she felt she wouldn't arrive to the city in one piece. She just knew it, that even if the others may be there for legitimate reasons, she wasn't going to be free much longer. And she had confessed it to Abe in her crying fit, but she couldn't see how he could help unless he pulled some serious strings and favors with both his father and the Major to interrupt such an official matter. "How?" She wished she could be brave and tell him she'd be fine, but the idea of being tortured by the same people, again, and maybe killed was too much after experiencing a normal life in Setaukett. "This is it for me. I can't... survive this, not again."
"I know I should have hired someone to kill them all when I had the chance, freed myself... And the last thing I want is for you to get hurt. Or killed. Everyone who has tried to care for me was murdered, it's... a curse, my father was right, I bring death."
#honestly with everything Abe has pulled in the show I feel he'd have like 5 ways and two plan Bs to get her out of this forced trip#including but not limited to: his father calling a favor. Hewlett calling it. Him calling Caleb to pick her up. Him hiding her in his secre#spot underground. Them hiding her in Whitehall and being like Ada who? don't know her lmao#she's slightly spiraling here. SLIGHTLY#answered#cabbxges and kings#cabbxgesandkings

"I'm sorry, but do you think that as a princess, if I told Rogers to go to hell I wouldn't get as murdered as a farmer? Granted, I'd still put up a fight, but I can't be certain to leave unscated with a man like that. As for Captain Simcoe, I sincerely doubt that my hostility would make things better for anyone here. I'd just be one more reason for him to be aggressive. If anything I figured you'd be pleased that their attention is on me and not on your loved ones." She studies him then, wondering if he truly hasn't understood, "I'll do anything to protect the people at Whitehall because I believe they are good people. Shockingly, that includes you too. I don't see how batting my eyelashes can actually bring danger upon them, but if my... scandalous behavior presents a problem and your father or Edmund wish me to leave, I'll find a room at the inn, and if not there then I'll find a stable. But I will certainly keep distracting certain people. Who knows, maybe they'll be in a better mood and make better choices. I'm not about to change my entire personality to avoid simple gossip, however. I haven't done it to please kings, I won't do it for anyone else. It's a matter of being true to myself."
"More importantly, when you say it's different because I'm a princess and you are a farmer... do you mean to say that I'm more free to break the rules because of my privilege or... less, because everyone is watching? Either answer should tell you why either way I can't let it change me."
𝐀𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦, shaking his head as his retort quickly left his lips as soon as Emma started to pose her question to him. ❝ Our situations are entirely different. I'm a farmer, you're a princess. That's two complete opposites. ❞ Her question struck a chord with him, it was true that he has been reckless. His life as a spy was an easy, obvious answer to her question. To some extent, Abe could answer with numerous examples from his childhood as well. Yet, he found a difference between them. ❝ If you decide to flirt with Simcoe and Rogers--or whatever you wish to call it--and then come over to me and my house, you should know what risk that poses. Richard nor Hewlett will tolerate it if they hear the news that you are associating with these men. ❞
Abe sighs and his hands drift up to rest on his hips, pushing back his coat. ❝ If you don't fear what the royal court will say, then you should fear what Setauket's citizens will say if they learn about this. Flirt with whoever you like, but in Setauket, things are different. ❞ For as much anger welled inside him--with fear not far behind--Abe managed to keep his tone measured and even, yet with an air of authority and discipline.
#lmao though if this is more serious and not crackish she has just used petnames & probably like. went 'hey Robert' all chill when they met#it wasn't super deep flirting bc in a full canon situation with her staying at Whitehall i doubt she tried to makeout with Simcoe lmao#but there was what can absolutely be called flirting in Setauket and scandalous behavior YEAH#also if Abe has seen Emma and Rogers interact does that implies Emma now knows he's a spy lol#or are they like 'I'm going to pretend she/he didn't notice and we never discuss this but we both know the other knows that I know'#cabbxges and kings

Get to know me: TURN: Washington's Spies Edition!
Favorite Season: Season 3. I grew up on Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and the bicon The Vampire Lestat literally saved my life, in catholic school, in the midst of my own bi crisis compounded with my crisis of morals vs the system. Discounting Benjamin’s wig, if a character, like Benjamin, or Lestat, or Percy, all of which are flawed main POV characters ~don’t~ have a crisis of morals or question the nature of “hero” or in Lestat’s case “goodness” I don’t see the point. Sorry not sorry.
Least favourite season: Season 2. I love Annlett I just don’t personally like Abraham Woodhull ~ as depicted in the show or irl very much, though he’s better than Thomas Jefferson, all my homies hate Thomas Jefferson.
Side note: good job making Abe sympathetic and relatable, you deserve a medal, cause that’s not easy: @cabbxges-and-kings. 💕
Favorite character(s):
Benjamin Tallmadge.
Sarah Livingston.
John André.
Abigail.
Lola.
Philomena.
Anna Strong.
Mary Woodhull.
Peggy Shippen.
Alexander Hamilton.
John Graves Simcoe.
George Washington ~ but only as depicted in TURN, I’d readily punch his ghost, team Sally Hemings & Ona Judge.
Least Favorite Character: Benedict Arnold. Enough said.
Favorite Romantic Relationship: I thought Anna/Selah Strong was very touching tbh. Tbf I’m THE multi-shipper so Benjamin/everyone -> including my 18th century vampire original character, but, regarding canon: Anna/Selah Strong.
Favorite Friendship:
Abigail and Anna Strong. ~ Abigail, my love, you’re so under appreciated.
Benjamin Tallmadge and Caleb Brewster. ~ Though, I see Benjamin as bi, so I see them platonically, romantically, and queer platonically, cause I’m not a coward.
Favorite Episode(s):
Hearts and Minds.
Judgement.
Yorktown — I don’t remember the exact title, but, that’s a fun one.
Pilot — it’s iconic.
Least Favorite Episode: I appreciate George Washington’s contributions to America as a historical figure, but, as mentioned above, team Sally Hemings & Ona Judge. I also appreciate the actors performances in this show. I act as a hobby and I can script write, though my preference is novels, novellas, poetry & zines — in that order. TURN is exceedingly well written and acted, I just am not partial to George Washington. So the Washington centric episode.
Favorite Iconic Quote: I embodied Benjamin Tallmadge as a coping mechanism during my first week of college, so it’s gotta be: “Oh, I won’t be hiding.”
Borrowed from: @honorhearted. 🫡
Tagging: @historiavn, @keptflame, @nauticql & @johngravessimcoe, @cavalrylad, & @annastrxng. 💕
