Chocolate Hearts
Every year on Valentine’s Day, when I was a little girl, my Dad brought home a heart-shaped box of chocolates for me and my mom.  A simple gesture that brought us such joy, because we knew he was thinking of us, on this special day for sweethearts.  Our faces would light up as he walked in with a big heart for her and a smaller heart for me. It was Valentine’s Day and we were his girls! A…

Coffee Beans vs. Cocoa Beans? Bean Similarities And Differences
Tumblr media
Coffee and chocolate…you must be thinking: well, I drink them all the time at the coffee shop in the most famed coffee drink in the world – a mocha. You ask yourself, “They must be related, right?” Read on to learn more about coffee beans vs. cocoa beans. To answer your question, one of the only similarities between coffee and cocoa beans is the fact that we describe them both as beans, when in fact, they are both seeds, or pits, of different plants. Coffee “beans” are found as the pits of red berries, whereas cocoa beans are found as seeds in the cocoa tree. By Andrew. But they taste so good together, how could they not be related? Well, just because they taste good together does not mean automatically that they are related.
Key Differences Between Coffee Beans and Cocoa Beans
In fact, they each have distinctive properties that identify them as their own species of plant, and it was discovered that when mixed together you have a taste unlike any other, with each element complementing the other in such a way that the taste is indescribable. It is important to differentiate the two by the fact that coffee is grown naturally and cocoa, or chocolate is manufactured from cacao pods found on the cacao tree. Key differences between the coffee bean and cocoa, or cacao beans, include appearance, process of production, smell, and flavor. Read more here about coffee beans versus cocoa beans.
Tumblr media
Appearance
Let’s first start with the appearance of coffee trees versus the appearance of cacao trees. Both types of trees grow in similar areas of the globe close to the equator. Despite this one fairly obvious unifying fact, the trees are completely unique. Coffee Trees vs. Cacao Trees Coffee trees are smaller and produce more fruit. They are grown in tropical areas, are typically six to fifteen feet tall, and make about 4,000 coffee beans a year. The actual multicolored fruit of coffee trees (which depends on the variety) are known as cherries. Every cherry contains two coffee beans. The beans themselves have a white color, but are later roasted and that is how they appear brown like you know them. Cacao trees are taller than coffee trees, but produce less fruit, and they are often called “trees of the gods.” Grown in West Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, they are about fifteen to twenty-five feet tall and make about twenty to thirty cacao pods each year. These pods are the fruit of cacao trees and every pod has twenty to fifty beans on the inside. The beans are made into chocolate by drying and fermenting them, then are ground up.
Coffee Production
After being harvested, through the hand-picked method (more so for specialty coffee) or strip picked, where all the fruit is removed from the tree regardless of ripeness (more so for low-grade coffee found in grocery stores) coffee cherries are gathered to be processed. Different processes of coffee production include natural, wet, dry, anaerobic, and honey. Each process removes the pulp from each coffee cherry and the beans are then dried in the sun to get out all of the excess moisture. The most traditional way of processing coffee is the natural way. For the natural way, cherries are dried with all of the pulp still covering the beans. After they are dried, the pulp is then mechanically removed and the beans are ready to be roasted.
Harvesting And Processing Cacao Beans Present More Of A Challenge To Farmers
Harvesters will always hand-pick pods from the cacao tree, as the pods all ripen at different times to varying degrees. They have to be careful not to cut the tree as this will mean that the tree will not blossom in that spot the following year. They will then cut the pods open and retrieve the seeds, or beans. The beans are then fermented in wooden boxes. After that, they are dried in wooden boxes on patios or a similar surface. Then, they are aged for thirty days, up to a full year before being roasted used for chocolate.
Smell
The aroma, or smell, of coffee beans and cacao beans are produced by the roasting process. Both coffee beans and cacao beans benefit from roasting through even heat, but the process is different for each. Coffee requires a “hot and fast” approach with temperatures exceeding 400 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas cacao beans require more of a “low and slow” process with temperatures ranging from 250 to 275 degrees Fahrenheit. This is due to the size of the beans themselves. Cacao beans can be described as having a pleasant smell, with floral and sweet notes. Coffee beans, depending on roast level, will often smell kind of nutty and lightly caramelized.
Flavor
The flavor of coffee beans and cocoa beans also depends on the roast. Cocoa beans only have trace amounts of sugar in them and roasting them produces a bitter flavor. It is only when sugar is added to confections by manufacturers that chocolate has a sweet taste. Roasted coffee beans can be sweet, mainly when they are lightly roasted. Dark roast coffees have more of a bitter taste., with hints of dark chocolate.
Conclusion
Coffee beans and cocoa beans are unique as they come from two different species of plant. From their appearance, method of production, smell and flavor, they differ greatly, but when combined they have wonderful flavors that complement each other so well. Next time you drink a mocha, think of these characteristics of coffee beans and cocoa beans and celebrate the flavor combination. Photos by Toocapic and Janko Ferlic. Read the full article

Hm, apparently this wasn’t a request. But whatever, I finished them and want to show it off
But yay, I finally got purecacao done!
So first off, I just want to say that these two are post-canon, and Dark Choco’s their older half-brother. I just felt like mentioning that because I made up this whole thing for the purecacao love story
My idea for how Dark Cacao and Pure Vanilla’s relationship went is that at some point, Dark Cacao got feelings for Pure Vanilla, but wasn’t sure how to tell him. But he thought he’d have all the time in the world to say because they were immortal. But then the Dark Flour War happened and Pure Vanilla “died”. When he came back, Dark Cacao realized that he couldn’t just wait anymore, and so sometime during the current story, he confessed his love for him, and after the main story they ended up getting together
Anyways, back to the twins. So Vanilla Bean is a girl, while Cocoa Butter is a boy. Though I’m considering making Cocoa Butter a girl as well. I’m not sure
So Cocoa Butter is a very friendly kid, and very outgoing. He wants to be a warrior like his father (Dark Cacao) and brother, though he prefers the Vanilla Kingdom over the Dark Cacao Kingdom. He also tends to get himself into messy situations, which result in his outfits getting messed up and having to constantly be fixed. In the future, I see him being a Vanillian soldier, if not a commander. Also, despite his want to be like Dark Cacao, his favorite parent is Pure Vanilla since he’s not nearly as serious
Vanilla Bean on the other hand is very shy and quiet. She prefers to read giant tomes and watch from afar. She prefers Dark Cacao since he’s quiet and feels safe with him due to how strong he is. I’m not as certain what she ends up doing, maybe she becomes a healer, but I know she’ll end up living in the Dark Cacao Kingdom
I feel like you can tell which description I did better. I mean, with Cocoa Butter I was haphazardly putting all my thoughts, but by Vanilla Bean I knew how to articulate them better
Despite their differences, they get along very well, and include the other in their games. Also, they both really like their brother Dark Choco. He’s like their main babysitter, and he enjoys their company too
Alright, I think that’s about it for their characters. Now on to designs
So I think I’ve mentioned using the name Cocoa Butter before, but I also decided to use Vanilla Bean a few days ago. My brain thoughts were that cocoa butter is cacao but light colored, while vanilla beans are vanilla but dark colored. It’s contrast (which admittedly I may be doing too much of with these two)
Cocoa butter and vanilla beans:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So one of the first things I wanted to do was give Vanilla Bean those pigtails, with the idea that they’d look like vanilla beans. Admittedly they aren’t actually in the shape of the beans, but whatever
I was struggling with their eye colors, since I wasn’t really sure what to do. I knew I didn’t want to do heterochromia though. Eventually I tried mixing the purple and I think blue to get this bluish grey color, and I decided to give them purple eyes but with one of Pure Vanilla’s eye colors as the highlights. And also I decided to change the purples to fit more with each highlight, Cocoa Butter’s being more warm while Vanilla Bean’s is more cool
Admittedly I was kind of just making stuff up with their outfits, all I could think of was vaguely mixing Vanillian and Dark Cacaoian clothing, which mostly just resulted in purple + yellow. I know I’ve seen someone do it, but I don’t have refs. I think what I came up with was alright though
In addition to their purples and yellows, I experimented with adding an additional green color to Vanilla Bean to spice things up, and I liked it. But I didn’t want to leave Cocoa Butter out, so I gave him the red accents
Their streaks were a very last minute inclusion, and I really only added them because I remembered that Dark Cacao had those. I feel like you can really tell on Cocoa Butter
Overall I think they’re good. Maybe not my best, but they’re still fine. Maybe I can make them some adult designs that look even better
But yeah, I think that’s about it for them. I hope you enjoy them!

Oh wait, could you do “Dark Cacao but he’s from the Vanilla Kingdom and/or vanilla flavored?”
If you’re still taking requests (I meant to ask one when you originally posted but I couldn’t think of anything)
[dark cacao but with vanilla flavor]
Meet the Vanilla Pod or Vanilla Bean!
Tumblr media
I remember your post with Dough-Swapped Ancients. And think about it..
Vanilla Pod/Bean is the warrior of Truth, who protect his ppl and ppl, who he loving the most.
[Vanilla Bean]
Tumblr media
I add him a vanilla flower on his hair.
Cuz, we always see vanilla bean with vanilla flowers on every single photo on internet.
[About his Backstory]
He lived like a simple vanilla cookies in Pilgrim Village (probably Pure Vanilla's origin is coming here..).
But he always wanted to be a warrior, who is protecting his ppl. And he going to [name] Academy, where he met the Yellow Lily (alternative of Golden Cheese). They're become a friends and together with other cookies is created their kingdoms.
Yellow Lily is the second hand of Vanilla Pod/Bean. And they're a best friends!
Vanilla Pod/Bean is wanted to know about the Truth, cuz' his soul jam is literally Light of Truth.
But.. Something is happen..
You can use this design, if you want. Just ask me!

Alright, well I finally finished these two, so their names are Blessed Cream Cookie and Vanilla Bean Cookie
As stated in a previous post, these two are supposed to be Pure Vanilla Cookie’s parents
The idea for them came from Pure Vanilla’s Story description, which has a line stating “Born from nature-blessed cream and a fragrant vanilla bean” which I then took and was like “what if I make him have parents based on both those things?” So yeah
I originally had two ideas, given that Pure Vanilla seems to have started out as a shepherd. Either he came from a family of shepherds, or given he apparently worships the Divine Light, he came from a family of religious leaders, but decided he wanted to be a shepherd and explore the world instead (which is something I took from Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, since that’s a book I had to read and have enjoyed). Eventually though I decided to just do both, having one parent be a shepherd and the other a religious leader of some sort
You know, when it comes to their designs, I had the idea Blessed Cream was from somewhere else and Vanilla Bean was native to the land, yet ironically in the final product it looks the other way around, Blessed Cream looking Vanillian while Vanilla Bean doesn’t
Anyways, I wanted to try and divvy up Pure Vanilla’s design elements between them. For example, Blessed Cream’s eyes more resemble Pure Vanilla’s open eyes, but Vanilla Bean is the one who has closed eyes and the bottom lash. Also, BC has PV’s blue eye(s) while I gave VB the yellow (you just can’t see it), since he’s vanilla and vanilla flowers are yellow. Originally I was planning on giving BC really light yellow hair that would presumably be darkened by VB since he was always going to have dark hair, but PV’s hair is already really light, so I just made it white. But I still gave it yellow lines to indicate maybe it’s a really pale yellow. As well as giving her PV’s lines in the hair. Though I don’t think it turned out the best, likely because I don’t really do that. Ah well
Anyways, let’s talk about them
So Blessed Cream is a religious figure, devoutly following the Divine Light, though to be honest, I don’t really know religion (my family’s atheist) and so I don’t know what role exactly she’d play, though I think she’s something equating to a pastor? She’s a religious leader in the small village they live in
I gave her the marking Pure Vanilla has on his head, assuming he got it from her, though I don’t know if that’s a birthmark or some sort of marking given to him, but honestly I think it could reasonably be either way. If it’s a birthmark, assume it’s red because of Vanilla Bean
I don’t have much for her personality other than she’s a nice and very calm lady
Vanilla Bean is a shepherd, as you can probably guess. He’s very passionate about his sheep and loves them dearly, but some of them are troublemakers and it’s difficult for him to keep his eye off them, for fear of them doing dangerous things. But he still is very content with his lot in life
In terms of personality, he’s also nice and friendly, but I imagine him being much more extroverted than his wife or son, and also a bit on the goofy side
I sort of imagine these two to have had a childhood friends to lovers romance, I don’t know why it just feels right
The family’s not very rich, but they are very happy where they are
I imagine that during the Ancients’s initial travels around Earthbread, they’d come to end up in each other’s hometowns at some point. For Pure Vanilla’s hometown they’d have a very nice time, PV’s parents welcoming his friends with open arms and generally just having a peaceful time. Maybe there’d be a plot about something stealing sheep and Vanilla Bean asking the group’s help in stopping the threat and protecting the herd
But this is probably the nicest time they have at one of their hometowns
Anyways yeah, that’s them
