Been redesign and rewriting my OCs and made these to figure out how they grow over the story

I wanted to ask how that pinyin combination chart you posted works? Is it only meant to be for a single character/word pinyin combinations or is there a way to read it where it combines more than one character? Like showing if you can combine 'liu' and 'jiao' for example. Or does it matter in that case?

It's just for single words. I added it mostly cuz I encountered a case where someone name their oc Ah'Sing which isn't possible cuz sing isn't a word that exists in Chinese.

you could very hypothetically just smash two random pinyin together and have it be a name. The only problems is that sometimes those pinyin together might have a common meaning.

In your Liujiao example I would have no idea what it means if I didn't have any context but I would immediately assume it reffered to 六脚 which means six legs. But don't let it stop you.

Wangji for example, without context it could be 忘记 which means forget. The actual characters for LWJ's name is 忘机 which mean forget and machine but it's actually derived from a saying 鸥鹭忘机 which means indifferent to everything.

You could get characters from 成语 chenyu (four character proverbs) and pick the characters from the ones with meanings you like like with LWJ'S name.

An example is the chenyu 守株待兔 shou zhu dai tu. Which means to guard a tree waiting for a rabbit. A name 'dai tu' would just mean waiting for a rabbit which is a little strange. Though rearranging the words to have a name Zhu ShouDai sounds like a plausible name

Or you could work from a theme and then expand out from it. I have a character named Zhiyi 枳饴. I based the character on the thorns of agony from hollow Knight so I took the word zhi which means thorn. And the yi from syrup.

Or you could just name your character after something very literal. My uncle's name was shuilong (水龙 water dragon) and my aunt's is caihong (彩虹 rainbow). I've even met a girl who's name was literally 星星 which means star.

I suppose at the end of the day just make sure you don't give them an 'ugly' name like naming them after ordinary objects (bag, book, table, chair) but precious metals, gems should be fine. It's kind of like in English like how you would not name child dairrhea or nostril but would be okay naming them Daisy or Hunter.

My literacy in Chinese is not amazing but how I try to make names is mostly Vibes haha.

Development of China's CH-7 Stealth Drone To Finish in 2024

After receiving new designs to further enhance effectiveness in information-based combat in modern warfare, China's CH-7 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has completed tests and its development is scheduled to finish this year. Chinese observers expect the drone to make a new appearance at the upcoming Airshow China in November.

The development of the CH-7 is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, with prototype tests already verifying the aircraft's outstanding performance and effectiveness of its airframe structural design, the Global Times learned on Tuesday from the Aerospace CH UAV Co Ltd, the developer of the drone.

The announcement indicates smooth progress for the CH-7's development, analysts said.

Featuring a flying wing configuration that represents a high level of stealth capability and long range, the CH-7 made its debut at Airshow China 2018 in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province, attracting broad interest from both professionals and the general public.

Four years later, at Airshow China 2022, a new version of the CH-7 was put on display, redesigned to meet the demand for high-end UAVs sought by potential clients in future asymmetric warfare.

The new CH-7 has a 26-meter wingspan, four meters longer than the original version, and a service ceiling of 15 kilometers, higher than the original version's 10-13 kilometers, meaning that it can fly higher and stay longer in the mission zone, be more focused on round-the-clock reconnaissance and monitoring in highly dangerous environments, and be able to keep detecting hostile targets for a longer time, Shi Wen, chief engineer of the CH series drone, told the Global Times at Airshow China 2022.

With a maximum takeoff weight of 10 tons, the CH-7 can also carry large missiles or guide other weapons to strike high-value enemy targets, Shi said.

Its stealthy design means that it is also able to effectively shorten enemy radar's detection range and continue containing the enemy's anti-air firepower, and greatly improve the effectiveness in information-based combat, Shi noted.

Airshow China 2024 is scheduled to be held from November 12 to 17 in Zhuhai, and observers are hopeful to see new information about the completed CH-7 by then.

Abe's new frontiers: Africa, Middle East

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe set out on his first tour of the new year on Thursday aiming to boost Tokyo's influence globally and help Japanese companies gain ground on their European and Chinese rivals in the lucrative Middle East and African markets.

Observers said Tokyo could hurt its chances of securing economic deals on the continent if it pressures African nations to take sides on political issues regarding China.

"Africa is a frontier of Japan's diplomacy and the Middle East is also extremely important," Abe told reporters before leaving for Oman, the first stop on a trip that runs through Jan 15.

Abe is not only seeking to land deals for Japanese businesses in Africa, but also to "contain China's strong influence in Africa", according to Japan's Sankei Shimbun newspaper.

"Containing China is one of Abe's intentions in his visits to Africa and the Middle East," said Yoshiie Yoda, professor emeritus at Waseda University. "He should solve Japan's problems with China rather than resort to a containment policy."

After Oman, Abe will travel to Cote d'Ivoire, Mozambique and Ethiopia, the first Japanese prime minister to visit the African continent since Junichiro Koizumi in 2006. Abe is expected to meet with Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said and to lobby for a stable supply of oil and natural gas from the Gulf nation, according to Japanese media.

Liu Junhong, a Japanese studies expert at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, said Japanese government officials are using "economic diplomacy" to boost deals with oil-rich nations in the Middle East and Africa.

"Tokyo is targeting the infrastructure industry in emerging economies as a major driving force for revitalizing the Japanese economy," Liu said.

Japanese companies accounted for only 2 percent of overall foreign direct investment in Africa in 2011, spending just $460 million, one-seventh the amount of investments from Chinese companies, the Nikkei Shimbun reported.

Africa's economy is expanding because of its natural resources. While Japanese companies were largely absent from the first wave of the global investment on the continent, a growing number are now making inroads.

Abe is expected to announce that Japan will lend about $2 billion to Africa by 2016, doubling the loan ceiling he promised at a G8 summit in 2012.

"That amount of economic aid from Japan naturally implies expected rewards, both economically and politically," said Zhou Yongsheng, a professor of Japanese studies at China Foreign Affairs University.

Kazuhiko Togo, a professor and director of the Institute for World Affairs at Kyoto Sanyo University, said, "The Japanese leader's visits have sent a clear message: Japan is now directed toward the whole world."

Before setting out on the trip, Abe drew criticism from China and the Republic of Korea by announcing that he would not rule out making another visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, where Japanese leaders convicted as war criminals after World War II are honored.

His Dec 26 visit to the shrine triggered strong rebukes from Beijing and Seoul. It also prompted the White House and various international newspapers to express their disappointment over the visit.

On Thursday, Beijing urged Abe to stop his provocations and said his goal in visiting the shrine was "to beautify the history of the militarist Japan's aggression and colonial rules".

Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party released a proposed party position for 2014, deleting the "pledge never to wage war again", Japan's Kyodo News Agency said on Thursday. Instead, the draft adds a phrase saying "... bolster veneration (for the war dead)", a phrase echoing Abe's excuse for the shrine visit.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Abe's actions have ended dialogue with China and that his recent remarks "clearly showed that he is not willing to improve the nation's relationships with its Asian neighbors".

Japan to extend 'territorial education'

Japanese Cabinet members have publicly confirmed that Tokyo will expand "territorial education" regarding disputed islands to include elementary schools.

Hakubun Shimomura, minister of education, culture, sports, science and technology, said during a Wednesday committee meeting of Japan's upper house that changes will be made in relevant teaching guidelines after appropriate discussions.

Japanese media said the revision plans include the Japanese government's spin on China's Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea and the disputed islands that Seoul calls Dokdo and Tokyo calls Takeshima.

Shinzo Abe, Japan's hawkish prime minister, echoed Shimomura by supporting the ministry's January decision to clearly state Japan's territorial claims over the disputed islands in the teaching guidelines for junior and senior schools in Japan.

"When the children are arguing overseas, it is important that they have the capability of making a clear presentation of Japan's beliefs," Abe said.

Liu Jiangyong, an expert on Japanese studies and the deputy dean of the Institute of Modern International Relations at Tsinghua University, said Abe is attempting to brainwash the younger Japanese generation by modifying textbooks, a controversial practice that has angered China and South Korea in past decades.

On Jan 28, Beijing and Seoul strongly condemned Tokyo's decision to make Japan's claim to the islands part of the teaching manuals for Japanese high school teachers.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Beijing lodged a serious objection and urged Tokyo to "educate the younger generation with a correct outlook on history".

The new teaching manuals cover textbooks for junior high school social studies and senior high school geography, history and civics classes, Japan's Kyodo news agency said.

South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, meanwhile, issued a statement protesting Japan's renewed claim to the islands and urged Japan to immediately retract the revision.

Zhou Yongsheng, a professor on Japanese studies at China Foreign Affairs University, said the younger generation in Japan has little understanding of Japan's wartime deeds because of the existing history education system, and textbook revisions — if shaped by Japanese right-wing thinking?- will only make things worse.

"A wider rift may emerge among the younger generations in China, Japan and South Korea if the textbooks are completely rewritten," Zhou said.
