📚 Review 📚 Last to Leave the Room
Whew. Okay. I’ll admit, Last to Leave the Room took me longer to read than I would like to admit. There’s a reason for it! From the moment the cat was introduced (yes, the cat, not any of the other characters - forgive me), I was soooo on edge. (Spoiler warning: I was right to be on edge).
Last to Leave the Room is a slow-burn type of horror novel. The kind of book where you know right away that something is wrong, so you’re stuck screaming at the characters, begging them to notice and save themselves.
Sorry, was that oddly specific? That’s because I really did feel like screaming at Dr. Rivers. Most people would run from that sort of situation. Then again, most people would pretty much do anything to avoid getting into a horror scenario.
I do think that Last to Leave the Room was a little bit rambling at times. It could have afforded to lose a few chapters. That would have kicked up the punch rather than reducing it.
Highlights: Science Fiction & Horror Twisting Tale Unreliable Narrator
Trigger Warnings: Graphic Injuries Mental Illness Animal Death Suicidal Thoughts

It's always hard for me to rate a book, if I truly loved the premise, but it somehow just fell flat for me. It's hard to decide between 2 and 3 stars, which is why I rate Yellow Jessamine 3 stars. 🖤🖤🖤 . Full review on my blog. Link in bio. And thanks to the publisher for the copy. . #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #caitlinstarling #yellowjessamine #neonhemlock #reviews #bookreviewersofinstagram #alwaysreading #threestarbooks #ratingbooks #readmore #beautifulcover #blogging https://www.instagram.com/p/CDKhvY2goKH/?igshid=s0y9qjuv1qco

The Luminous Dead stickers! Thanks @authorcstarling, they are gorgeous! Straight to the pool room (=getting pride of place if you haven’t watched The Castle. Here on the laptop alongside these cool @shaunaomeara art stickers.) I loved everything about this spooky book—The Luminous Dead has all my favourite things! The claustrophobia of the caves and the creeping, building dread. The tech and the way it interfaces with the body. Characters not being able to trust their own perceptions (yay!). SF cave biodiversity (luminous fungi!). And of course Gyre and Em and their fabulously twisted relationship—with its power-play, conflict and complexity—pitch perfect. That ending 🖤👌 I look forward to reading more from this author! #theluminousdead #caitlinstarling #stickers #books #horror #sff #laptopstickers https://www.instagram.com/p/B35iuUagU9Z/?igshid=1jbm91qlp032x
