A/N: This was requested by a wonderful person in my Discord server. Lies are shown in bold.
"Rather unknightly of you to accept defeat and beat a retreat to wallow in self-pity until god knows when. You're stronger than this Roman."
"I don't recall inviting you in here, Janice," Roman spits from under his pile of blankets on his bed.
Janus sucked in a breath. "I can tell you're using my name incorrectly. It doesn't bother me. I'm fine. Regardless, since I'm not a vampire, I do not require an invitation. I believe you misinterpreted before. Thomas was telling the truth. Of course, you're his hero. You always have been. And inviting me into the picture doesn't change that." He tapped his fingers against his chin as he thought of a way to make this make sense to the prince with his head in his clouds. "Do you remember the Aladdin sequel?"
"Which one," Roman asked cautiously, sitting up and pushing the blankets off of himself, revealing his pitiful state of messy hair and red, puffy eyes. If Janus considered himself to have a heart, it would have broken at the sight. "The Return of Jafar or Aladdin and the King of Thieves?"
"Return of Jafar, of course. Iago had always been an agent of chaos, selfish, serving himself and Jafar, when it suited his best interests to do so and once it stopped suiting his interests, he left the sorcerer behind. But eventually, he and Aladdin warmed to each other. And while Aladdin, Jasmine, Abu, and the genie had been a remarkable and powerful team before, they grew stronger with Iago on their side. Because Aladdin was able to accept him in spite of the past. In spite of seeing him only as a villain. Far be it from me to compare myself to something like a parrot, but we can be a stronger team. All of us together. We're in it for the same reason after all. To care for Thomas. It's our primary direc-- it's our main quest. Wouldn't you agree?"
After a long period of thoughtful silence, Roman nodded. "I... I think you may be right. And I'm sorry. I tend to let my emotions get the better of me. I was so upset about the callback that... I let you take all the blame, thought I was part of the final decision as well. And I was admittedly fond of you before. But that's just my selfish need for flattery."
Janus nodded in understanding. "It's okay to be selfish sometimes, Roman. In fact, it's required. And right now, I'm requiring you to be utterly selfish and take care of yourself. I'm prescribing you a bubble bath, all the chocolates you can eat, champagne if it's your style, the works. You work very hard, Roman. You need to stop and take care of yourself once in a while. Everyone does."
Roman got out of bed at last, stretching his limbs and unashamed of his matching red and gold pajamas with a fancy callgraphy "R" embroidered on the chest pocket. "Thank you, Janus. You're... you're surprisingly very good at pep talks. Perhaps you're good for his ego... and for Thomas in general... after all."
A rare but faint smile crossed Janus' face. "Thank you, Roman. I'm happy to help. And stop worrying. You'll always be Thomas' hero."
