Mastering The Art of Handwriting: The Ultimate Guide To Handwriting Classes
Nowadays, people usually explore work by tapping on a keyboard or a touchscreen; handwriting might seem just an outdated artifact. Though its significance has faded in many places, it remains relevant in how people exchange information, including letters, memos, and private and public documents.

Beyond a doubt, handwriting is not a skill that needs practicality.

I've talked about this before but I really think the public education system in north america is falling with fine motor skills
Like I really think we should teach kids cursive writing or even basic calligraphy because I see so many kids well into high school with no grasp of pressure or fine pencil/brush skills. It didn't used to be this way and I don't think you need corporal punishment or whatever ghastly things they did back the 1950s to achieve those skills in our classrooms again..

behold. I discovered bedbugs in my apartment, I’m sleeping in my kitchen, life in shambles, but I still managed to finish this before the critique on Wednesday
Text is from the lament of cuchulainn after the death of ferdiad in the tain.
this is technically a draft. I’m going to try to do the second version wider so I can fit the entire lament in (missing 3 verses I think) and also balance the text on the spear better. Unsure how I feel about the last sentence. might keep it might not.
anyways good night I’m so tired lol it’s almost 2am

Typography Tuesday
This week we present a few plates from the portfolio Manuscript & Inscription Letters for Schools & Classes & for the Use of Craftsmen by Edward Johnston (1872-1944) and Eric Gill (1882-1940), two of the most celebrated and influential calligraphers and type designers of the early 20th century. Originally published in 1909, our copy is the fifth printing of 1922 published in London by John Hogg. It was intended as a working supplement to Johnston's highly influential 1906 work Writing & Illuminating & Lettering, also published by John Hogg.
Gill is the English sculptor, stonecutter, type designer, and printmaker most noted for his Gill Sans typeface and the proprietary typeface he designed for the Golden Cockerel Press. This publication appears to be Gill’s first. Johnston, remembered most popularly for his type design for the London Underground, is arguably the most influential calligrapher of the 20th century. Among his students who later became well-known in their own right were Anna Simons, Graily Hewitt, T. J. Cobden-Sanderson, Percy Smith, Florence Kingsford, Dorothy Bishop Mahoney, and of course, Eric Gill. Johnston taught at the Royal College of Art in London from 1901 until his death. Johnston’s student Irene Wellington succeeded him at the Royal College of Art in 1944, and through that position she in turn influenced another generation of calligraphers and illuminators.

If I was a medieval monk, I would be the best manuscript transcriber they’re always on the verge of firing.
My letters are rushed and not as legible as the abbot would like but no one can match my speed. I’m cranking out twelve, thirteen pages a day while all the other monks can only do seven or eight. I’m single-handedly speeding up the whole book making process by several months.

tbh i was gonna ask about the fic but i didnt know how to drop it in there without sounding pushy and i’d never want it to feel that way!! of course, always take your time, i’d rather wait until 2024 than have you try and force yourself to write it and then have it be low quality!! and yes! go back and edit it again! i’d love to try and notice the little differences you make, obviously, do it for yourself but i think i’d turn it into a fun lil game for myself :) - space
u are so kind dkfgj thank u 🥺 honestly i don't think i'd be bothered if u asked about the fic! sometimes people can sound pushy about it but i don't think it would sound like that coming from u since you've always been so enthusiastic when it comes to vb au, so feel free to check in whenever u want to! i'm always happy to see u in my inbox anyway :)
in theory i won't be super busy this summer so i'm really hoping i can get at least the first arc written and posted by like... end of august or mid-september? i think that might be doable if i regularly put aside some time to write/plan things and i think i've found a way to keep myself motivated for that (aka i'm gonna rewatch haikyuu lmao). anyway yeah that's my tentative timeline for now!
also. this is really stupid but it's not plot-relevant so it's sth i can share with u as we both wait for me to write stuff. last month i finally figured out what finn's stick & poke tattoo would be
