Taken at the Little Desert National Park, Victoria, Australia. Photo is of a galah in a gum tree. Contact me if you want a high resolution image - the full image is 6000x4000.
I'm really pleased with this one, although it does reinforce that I want a better zoom lens......
Something closer to the full image is my current header.
[EDIT adding to pinned: going on hiatus for a few days.]

All my life I have used a Nikon, but recently, out of nowhere, I was given the unimaginable gift of a Canon EOS Rebel T7 and all of its friends you see pictured here. (Picture taken by Nik. Credit where credit is due.)
I have never used a Canon before, heck, I have been using a Nikon forever and still don’t know what I am doing with that! (Nik can confirm.) So now I am on a new learning curve and all of you who so graciously follow me are coming along for the ride. Apologies in advance.  :D

This is the first photo I figured out how to take. I got lucky. And this particular Hummer is used to my shenanigans. No promises from here on out. :D

Mount Ulap Origins
As kids, we have known it as the Santa Fe Ridge. It connects Mount Ulap peak on the northwest and Camaring village on the opposite end. It’s a part of a longer trail connecting Baguio to Pangasinan and all the villages in between back when the main roads were not yet fully developed.
Stories from our elders says it was once used as a supply route by the Imperial Japanese Army during the defense of Baguio from the returning American Forces in WWII, I've also read it in historical accounts of GI soldiers deployed in the area (available on the net). At present, with the right equipment and gadget, traces of the war can still be found scattered along the stretch of the ridge (included in the pics).
Lately, BLGU developed the ridge as an eco-trail for tourism exiting in Sitio Santa Fe due to geo-political boundaries. However, if one decides to follow the trail a bit further, there’s this cluster of large boulders sitting atop the ridge (also in the pics) which is a sight to behold.
Back in the days, only a few frequented the place due to its remoteness. There was once a wooden box dangling from the said rock which was a subject of my curiosity as a child whenever I use my father’s telescope. I asked him then, “what is it?” and he said it’s a coffin. Explaining further that in the olden times, it was one of our people’s method of keeping our dead.
I joined our school’s hiking club several years later and one of our destination was the Santa Fe ridge. Our instructor, deciding that we are too many for him to supervise, called for one of the locals to guide us. Upon reaching the said boulder, he explained that the coffin was brought down to its base a few years back since the danger of wild animals desecrating it is not a threat anymore, besides, maintaining the rope was a bit of a hassle.
Another several years forward and I heard the remains were transferred to a safer place as a precaution from rowdy hikers and undisciplined treasure hunters.

Taken a couple of days ago - Saturday, I think. I have tweaked this one slightly - adding the vignette filter, as well as increasing the saturation slightly to counter the dulness that caused. And yep, taken on my camera. :D (c) Catkin, 2022.

I got a refurb canon rebel t7 as a wedding gift last year and have several good lenses (Tamron something for landscape, and a canon 55-250 mm for zooms) both of which are second hand from camera shops, but I was wondering what exactly do you recommend for a birding setup? Preferably dedicated amateur-friendly, and not national geographic level! Also I'm limited to the t7 for at least a while. The 55-250 is blurry at max zoom but I can get decent pictures with good lighting and a stationary subject and I wonder if better lens will help. Thank you!
Hi! I'm gonna be honest, 85% of my wildlife photos on this blog were taken with my Canon Rebel T6i and a Canon 55-250mm. It is not a professional level lens but it is extremely versatile and was my go-to for years and years. I would highly recommend it as a budget lens for pretty much everything!
I would personally stay away from the Canon 75-300mm. It's a decent lens but you get a lot of distortion and I found the image stabilizer lacking. I used my 55-250mm much more than my 75-300mm.
My current set up is a refurbished Canon 7D, which I really like so far, and a Sigma 150-600mm. You can definitely get better lenses (and better cameras) but for where I'm at in terms of skill, usage, and budget, it's pretty much perfect. I'm really excited to get out more this year now that I have a really solid set up!

Primes Or Zooms
I would like to ask you a question. What do you prefer shooting with a prime lens or a zoom lens?. This seems to be a hot topic in the photography community.I myself use more zoom lens’s then primes. For my Canon 7D I use a 28-75mm 2.8 and a Canon 70-200mm 2.8 for most of my shoots. As far as my fuji XE2 I use a 18-55 2.8-5.6 zoom when I’m shooting with mirrorless. The reason for me using zooms…
