(gif not mine)
"Where's Florida?" Olivia asked.
You had just told Olivia and Jamie you were moving from Calgary to Florida. Max was still too young to understand what was happening, so he was in his crib taking a nap.
You pulled out your phone and showed both of them on a map where you'd be moving, "That's so far." Olivia looked like she was gonna cry. Matt frowned, pulling her into his lap.
"I know, but think, we'll get to go to Disney World all the time." Of course, you and Matt were sad to leave the place you had called home since you were 18, but you knew it was time to go.
That seemed to brighten her mood a little, "But what about Charlie?" Although there was a pretty big age gap between Charlie Coleman and Olivia, they were still best friends.
"I'm sorry, Livey." Matt offered her a sad smile. She pushed herself off his lap and ran into her room, closing the door carefully. You looked over at Matt, a worried look on your face.
He looked just as nervous, "What about you, Jam? What do you think?"
"Disney?" He asked.
"Yeah, we'll get to go to Disney World a lot." Matt nodded.
"Yay!" He clapped his hands. Clearly, he was more excited than his sister.
"All right, I guess we have our answer." You smiled optimistically.
-
Olivia had been in her room for almost 3 hours, which was a record. You let her be alone because it was a lot of change to wrap your head around at 5 years old.
"All right, I'm gonna check on her," Matt announced, standing up from the kitchen table.
"You sure?" You asked.
"Yeah, I can do it." He nodded, making his way up to her room. He knocked on her door before pushing the door open, "Livey?"
"I don't want to go." She sniffled, letting him know that she had started crying.
His heart broke as he laid down in her small bed next to her. He picked her up and held her in his arms, "I know you don't. I don't want to either, but aren't you excited to go somewhere new? You're gonna make so many new friends."
"But Charlie." She pouted.
"How about this? Every time I have to come back here for work, you can come, too and you can see her."
"And can we come back during breaks?"
"We'll see." Matt smiled.
She was warming up to the idea, "Okay."
"Deal?"
"Deal." She nodded.
"I love you." He squeezed her a little tighter and kissed the top of her head.
"Love you, too, daddy."
-
The day after the trade was announced, you, Matt, and all three kids flew down to Florida. He took pictures with staff, held a press conference, and lastly, the team gifted all three children with new merch for your kids.
You tried to ignore the cameramen in the room and focused all your attention on Jamie and Olivia in front of you, "Look at how cool it is." You showed them the new jersey.
"Cool." Jamie nodded, his eyes wide as he took in every detail of the jersey. He raised his arms and you slipped the jersey on him.
Olivia observed it a little while longer, but raised her arms and let Matt slip the jersey on her. You held Max in your arms, a little Panthers jersey of his own, as you posed for the cameras all around you.
When you got back to your home you were renting till you officially moved in, Keith and Chantel were there. You had a surprise in store for the kids, so they were going to watch them while you got their surprise.
"All right, we'll be back soon. Be good for grandma and grandpa." You kissed Olivia's head as you headed towards the car.
"Bye-bye." Jamie and Olivia waved.
"Bye." You both waved.
-
A few hours later, you were pulling back into the driveway, your special surprise asleep in the backseat. You carefully picked up the surprise from the backseat while Matt gathered everything else you had picked up.
You unlocked the door, "We're home." You sang.
Jamie and Olivia ran to greet you and gasped when they saw the surprise in your arms, "A puppy?"
"Surprise." You smiled, bending down and letting them pet him and introduce themselves. The dog's tail hadn't stopped wagging since the moment they started petting him.
"Is he ours?"
"He's all ours." You nodded.
"What's his name?"
"What do you want to name him?"
Jamie and Olivia looked at each other, and whispered back and forward before turning back to you, "Woody." Jamie stated.
"Woody?" They both nodded.
"All right, well welcome to the family, Woody."
-
True to his word, when Matt played the Flames, he came back to Calgary with you and Olivia. Your parents flew into Florida to watch Jamie and Max.
You had a couple new jackets gifted to you from the Panther's partners, but decided to switch it up and wear an old Flames jacket in support.
When you walked out of the bathroom wearing the jacket, Matt let out a laugh, "What? Is there something wrong with my jacket, Matthew?"
"Nope, not at all." He shook his head, a smile on his face as he pulled you into a brief hug and pressed a kiss to your head.
Before meeting up with the Coleman clan, you waited in front of the glass for Matt. The Flames were first to come out, and the first person who spotted you by the glass was Elias Lindholm, and he skated up to you with the brightest smile on his face.
A few more players came up to greet you. The only people who knew of you coming to the game were the Coleman's, so seeing everyone else was a surprise.
Matt eventually came out and spotted you easily. He skated over and tossed a puck over. It was part of your tradition. Every game the kids came to, he made sure to get each of them pucks.
This game was no different.
After your glass traditions, you found your seats, and Charlie and Olivia reunited, giving each other big hugs. You hugged Jordan, "Oh, it's so good to see you. FaceTime does no justice."
"Oh, I've missed you too. So glad we were able to come. You'll have to come down to Florida sometime."
"Off-season, you'll be seeing us a lot." She laughed, "And we'll have to do a group Disney trip."
"For sure." You nodded.
"And nice jacket." She ran her finger over the jacket.
"Thank you, thank you. Had to represent." You laughed.
After the game, you met up with Matt by the guest locker room, before making the all-too-familiar trekk towards the home locker room.
"Just the people we were waiting for. The Tkachuk's." You were pulled into a million different hugs as each player and partner pulled you all into hugs.
"Gotta say, haven't missed ay of you." Matt joked, a smile on his face.
"Feelings mutual, chuck." You all laughed.

You want rights or accommodations? Pick.
On the one hand, there desperately needs to be transparency and accountability for medically assisted deaths. On the other hand, if I get some kind of horrifying cancer, I, too, want the right to die on my own terms. It makes me feel a little less secure about being out and proud and divergent if my abusive family might pop up and start taking things away from me again, with legal support.
People underreport their level of disability and don't get the help they need because it comes with a side of, "And you are now a little less human than the rest of us!"
I really don't want to have another conversation about my "you can squeak by!" privilege. But, look, if I get to be more visible without getting smacked down with human rights abuses, you do too, no matter where you land on the various spectrums. This is a curb-cut thing, our fates are intertwined like wheelchair users, folks who can't afford a car to drive to the grocery store, and punks with skateboards. We want independence and the right to use public spaces! And some groceries! And some simple assurances on end-of-life care! And safe housing!
Actually, this is a very long list and the preamble to the Constitution just doesn't cover it in enough detail... Look, for the sake of expedience, we'll let you know when we're getting close to equity, okay?

I know the details might be messy if some of Pettersson’s salary is retained by the Canucks and/or a third team, but what do you think a trade to the Canes would look like?
To clear the air first: this anon sent me this ask BEFORE the extension went down. I just have a little backlog and a pounding headache. Everyone who's still in my inbox, fret not, you WILL get answers, I promise.
So clearly Petey ain't getting traded no more. That being said, let's speculate under the cut what a Petey to CAR trade could have looked like. For science!
Science under the cut, woot! Okay, so. First off. No way Vancouver trades Pettersson before the playoffs at its current state. Teams expected to be Cup contenders do not trade off their star centers in the middle of the season. Much more likely would have been a trade prior to or during free agency to send his rights to Carolina. (Petey is still an RFA at the end of this season, so his rights are easily flipped.)
Now, what would that trade look like? Pettersson is a franchise player. The price tag on him should reflect that value. We know Carolina's offer was "overwhelming", but Sebastian Aho (the lesser) was not involved in any such offer. So, here's my guess.
I think the talk started with Nikishin and Necas. Nikishin, if you don't know, is widely regarded as Carolina's top prospect, an LD who plays in the KHL and whose rights are thus indefinite. There's no guarantee he would ever come stateside, however, which drops his value significantly. If he does, though, he is touted as NHL ready from the jump. Necas is a center who often plays wing and has been a Cane for several seasons now, scoring 71 points last season. I mostly know him from Canes twitter always going "can't spell Canes without Necas" whenever he does anything. Annoying.
As "untouchable" as Nikishin is claimed to be, this alone doesn't get it done at all. There was almost certainly at least one first-round pick involved, probably multiple, and perhaps a few later-round picks or lower-tier players and prospects as well.
So could it have been Nikishin's rights, Necas, CAR 2024 1st, CAR 2025 1st? Maybe. Maybe a second in there too. But there's another intriguing piece available, one that could certainly blow away Allvin and co. And no, I'm not talking about Kotkaniemi. He's kind of a bust and we all know that.
What if the overwhelming part of the offer... was Svech?
Okay, I know. Svechnikov is one of the Canes' best offensive players, a premier power forward when he's healthy. Emphasis, however, on "when healthy". Dude gets hurt. A lot. In the last five seasons including this one, he has played over 70 games only once and has not broken the 70 point mark. It's not great. That being said, if you can keep him healthy, you have an offensive dynamo. There's definitely a level left to be unlocked there.
Would Waddell move one of his best forwards for Pettersson? Who knows. Go big or go home, right? Zito did the unthinkable two years ago with the Tkachuk trade, selling a 100+ point winger and a franchise defenseman for Tkachuk, and see how well that ended up for Florida. (And how badly for Calgary.) Could Waddell have tried a similar trade?
To review, the Tkachuk trade was:
To FLA: Matthew Tkachuk, 4th round pick
To CGY: Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt [prospect], 1st round pick
Could the Pettersson trade have been:
To CAR: Elias Pettersson, 4th round pick
To VAN: Andrei Svechnikov, Martin Necas, Alexander Nikishin [rights], 1st round pick
?
Who knows. But what's certain is that it spooked Petey enough to re-sign in Vancouver.

Day 4 - July 2nd
Getting started on a long ride like this requires time, adjustments, and rest. We knew we were not in the best touring shape. We knew we didn’t have enough experience on our bikes when loaded with gear. Travel, in general, can be tough on the body.
Since Ed needed a bike adjustment and we all needed a rest we decided to take some extra time in the morning and shorten our ride in the afternoon. 20 miles instead of 56 seemed reasonable. And it boasted our spirits to think that we might be in camp before 5pm.
Understand that we had a target destination but no idea on nightly accommodations. We believed there was camping but we didn’t have details. Regardless, this is an adventure right! We moved forward.
We left Fernie after lunch and found gravel roads to avoid some tough single track. We didn’t realize that we also shaved about 5 miles off the day and we were happy to discover that later. While the road was generally up and down, we all felt good and we were not fatigued by the effort.
Tumblr media
Lovely scenery.
Our destination was Elko, a town of 140 that supposedly had camping. Three or four miles out of town we started to notice more cars on the road and a few potential primitive campsites. As we rolled along, three people walking with towels and backpacks asked if we passed the trailhead for Silver Spring. Within a tenth of a mile there were at least 100 cars parked along the road with more coming in. We learned that there was a big party going on at Silver Spring. If it wasn’t a 1500’ hike with a significant climb we would have gone to check it out.
A mile or so later we dropped across a river and saw a few more primitive campsite in the hills near the water. We passed on those in the hopes of finding better. Elko had nothing.
We rolled out of town to find construction on our route. We stopped at a C-Store that was packed with Silver Spring party goers buying ice and beer. There, we researched camping and found an RV park about 10 miles down the road. Oh well, so much for a short day!
We bombed down a hill, crossed the Elk River, and climbed up the other side. Seconds later we rolled up on a dairy bar with a line of people placing orders. We jumped on line too! What the heck, it was a short day so why not hit all the stops!
Tumblr media
David and Jose ordering excellent ice cream.
Tumblr media
David with a cone.
After a couple miles of highway we turned off into a gravel road that took us through meadows and lightly forested hills. Generally downhill, we cruised through the miles. The road was quite dusty and any approaching cars weren’t exactly happy to see us. We wondered what camping in a nearby RV park was going to be like.
Tumblr media
Nope, we’re not going that way today!
PR RV Park and Campground was near capacity with full time trailers and RVs. There was a shower, laundry, and, unfortunately, an outhouse. They gave us the first space next to the entrance. The camp host made a special point of telling us that they test their water weekly and it met all standards. If he told us twice he told us four times.
Tumblr media
Not bad at all!
We were settling in when our neighbors in the next lot came home. Kevin & Shelley had a full time space in the park as did a few of their relatives. They immediately offered us chairs, firewood, and weed. We accepted 2 of the 3. Kevin came back with beers for all of us a few minutes later. He gave us a little of their story and then went back to his place. He’s a truck driver, Shelley is an account for an oil company and does the books for a few companies on the side. She also has a janitorial services company. They come down to the Baynes Lake area from Calgary and spend as much of the summer as they can there. They have a pontoon boat and they go out on Lake Koocanusa to fish for their 15 limit of Kokanee Salmon on a regular basis. It ticks them off that Americans have a 50 limit on the same lake.
Tumblr media
Kevin bearing gifts! (And Vladimir Putin in the background).
Oh, and Kevin is a musician. He plays guitar, banjo, and mandolin. He loves to rock out the RV park on special occasions. He was good enough to leave country music playing for us until 10pm.
And a little while later Kevin came back with more beer and more stories. He just met his 67 year old 1/2 brother who his mother had given up for adoption when she was 16. The brother and his wife like their liquor and usually start drinking after their morning coffee. They usually polish off a 40 (1/2 gallon) every day.
Tumblr media
Kevin with more gifts.
Regardless, Kevin and Shelley are salt of the earth people. They were generous and engaging. They didn’t hesitate to tell us their story and ask us ours.
After Kevin and Shelley headed down to the relatives to play cards we burned some firewood and hit the sleeping bags by 10:30pm.
All in all, a very good day.
Tumblr media
Jerky, dried mango, dried apricots for snack.
Tumblr media
Thanks for the firewood Kevin!
Tumblr media
Winding down!
Cheers!

What Happens If Car Ceramic Coating Isn't Maintained?
Anyone passionate about cars understands the value of a thick coating of ceramic shine. There are a lot of perks that come with owning a car ceramic coating but two of the most important ones are UV protection and a shine that lasts. In addition, the hydrophobic qualities of ceramic coatings prevent grime, slush, ice, and road salt from adhering to your car.
You can get a warranty of between three to seven years on your investment in a high-quality ceramic coating in Calgary. This warranty guarantees the coating's robust protection, but it does not guarantee that the ceramic coating will not deteriorate or lose performance over time. Therefore, regular maintenance is essential if you want your car's ceramic coating to continue performing as expected.
In the same way that neglecting any other part of the world will eventually lead to issues, neglecting to maintain your car ceramic coating will eventually lead to problems. You shouldn't ignore these issues because they give your car an unattractive and patched-together appearance from the outside. Here are some problems that can develop if you don't properly maintain the ceramic coating that was professionally placed on your car.
Loss of Shine is the First Alert:
A ceramic coating's ability to create a mirror-like sheen is one of its most attractive qualities. The hydrophobic characteristics of the coating, on the other hand, will start to degrade if you fail to properly maintain it and allow dirt to accumulate on it.  You'll notice a loss of sheen and lustre as your defences weaken and compromise the appearance you've come to expect. Products designed to revitalize Car ceramic coatings may help bring back part of the coating's shine, but if the coating is more than two years old, complete failure is likely.
The Second Warning Is Reduced Hydrophobic Effects:
Ceramic coatings are extremely effective in repelling water, mud, grime, and other pollutants. The hydrophobic repelling abilities contained in the Car ceramic coating will begin to deteriorate if the unclean machines are not washed and exposed to an excessive amount of harmful UV radiation. What's the result? There is stagnant water everywhere, coupled with all the harmful substances you'd rather not come into contact with.
You Have Committed A Complete Failure:
All good things, even the box of chocolates you've been sneakily nibbling on at your desk at work, must eventually come to an end. What? You didn't think we'd catch on, did you?
This is the exact feeling you'll have when your careless neglect of the ceramic coating in Calgary finally wears it out. The benefits that are said to come from these items are only a temporary shield and not a permanent way to clean themselves.
While the failure of a ceramic coating may not pose any immediate hazards, the results are rarely pleasant. If you notice that the shine and performance of your Car's ceramic coating have faded, don't wait to strip it off and get ready for a new application.
How do Car Ceramic Coating Boosters work?
Ceramic boosters are the renewing ingredients that keep your ceramic coating looking like new. To maintain the ceramic coating's lustre, these treatments are recommended every 6-12 months. These compliment your car's existing coating by filling up any gaps that may exist.
When selecting a ceramic booster, you must be extremely cautious with its components. The chemicals used to apply the ceramic coating to your car should also be present in the spray. The Car Ceramic Coating Reloaded Package, available from Drip Detailing Calgary, includes extensive inside cleaning, a reloaded ceramic coating layer, and other maintenance services, and is just one example of the premium ceramic coating maintenance packages available from the company.
Bottom Line:
A car detailer can take care of your needs, whether you only want high-quality car Ceramic Coating, complete cleaning, or extensive restoration of your vehicle. Make sure you put in the time to find reputable detailers in your area. You can kick back and take it easy, knowing that your car is in capable hands and will emerge in top form.

In December 2013, a woman was maneuvering her car in Calgary, Canada, when she struck a parked vehicle, damaging the front and rear doors. When the owner returned, she approached him, explaining what had happened and citing the conditions on the road that winter as the cause of the accident.
The man, who was in his late thirties, was not pleased. But after the woman had explained that her car was a business car and that she would pay for all damages without the need to get insurance companies involved, he seemed to come around slightly.
So they swapped details, and she got the man to call her boss at the marketing firm where she worked. The man agreed with the boss to get a repair estimate for the damage. They settled on a $1,000 payment, and the woman even offered the man Flames tickets as an extra goodwill gesture for the inconvenience caused and for his willingness to settle without involving insurance companies.
On December 4, the two met up so that the money could exchange hands. Then they had a meal together and she listened as he talked about his children and his plans for Christmas. Soon, a friendship blossomed and the two kept in touch via texts and phone calls for the next year and a half.
They shared difficulties from their own lives. Difficulties such as the man having had bad relationships in the past. And that he had strangled his wife to death and buried her in the basement.
That was all the woman needed. She was actually an undercover police officer. Her sting, which had started with her deliberately driving into her suspect’s parked car, was over. Her target, Allan Shyback, was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of Lisa Mitchell, whose partially mummified remains were subsequently exhumed from beneath the concrete floor of the basement.
