Germany: Ludwig is a big fan of cars. For him, it is a hobby; he likes getting his hands dirty, repairing, checking, etc. On a daily basis, as in my head, he is environmentally conscious; he drives a nice electric Mercedes or uses public transport in Berlin. But, give this boy a few free hours, and he will take his Ferrari (yes, Ferrari; Feliciano chose it) to the Autobahn (Highways), which in Germany are mostly with no speed limits, and he will show you all his talents. He still drives safely and is careful, but he is a speed devil.
Prussia: Gilbert drives well; he is not as into cars as Lutz is, though he still knows what he is doing. He also drives something German, maybe a BMW or Audi. Classic one, with manual gearbox, black, because black cars are awesome. Prussia actually sticks to the rules on the road, although he still, after all these years, tends to forget about seatbelts. He is also in possession of a Trabant, a car produced in Eastern Germany. It is one of the oldest models from the late 1950s, in a light blue colour. It is well maintained, and you can still drive it, which Prussia does from time to time to let the old boy breathe a little. He won't admit it, but he kept his Trabi out of pure sentiment. 
Austria: Roderich can drive, sort of. He learned how to do it very quickly, but he dislikes it. Austria always had someone to drive him around, and nowadays he usually uses taxis or someone else like Ludwig or Gilbert is driving him. In the early days of cars, it wasn't that bad; there were just a few machines around, but in the 21st century, he is simply slightly afraid (he won't admit it aloud, of course). of the number of people on the roads, it is way too fast for him, and with him being easily distracted, it is just hard to drive. He has a car; Ludwig chose it, it is sensible, comfortable, and German. Roderich spearly uses it, but if Germany, Prussia, or anyone else visits by plane, they usually take the car. 
Bonus headcanon: Alfred once made a comment about Ludwig driving rather slowly in the city and having a boring town car. Germany took Al for a drive in the Ferrari. Americ's life was never the same.

“It was love at first sight,” is how Gary Thompson remembers the night he saw his 1970 Falcon GTHO Phase Two for the first time.
“It was up on stands on the lot at John Gigante Motors on Parramatta Road in Croydon,” reminisces Gary today from his home in Mount Annan, New South Wales.
“My friend Paul Bianco and I were headed to the ‘brickies’ for some street racing action.
We had just driven by when the bright orange of the car caught my eye, and we immediately turned around to go drool over it,” remembers Gary. “They wanted around $4,200 for it. The salesman didn’t mind letting a 21 year old behind the wheel of such a powerful beast either!” After the road test, Gary talked turkey with the salesman clinching a deal that afternoon which included a then nine month old Electric Blue 351 XY Falcon 500. “They gave me $3,000 as a trade-in,” smiles Gary. This was fifty one years ago back in 1972, and the barely one-year old Falcon GTHO was just out of warranty and had just been traded-in by its first owner.

“I’d had the Phase Two for just ten days when my good mate Paul who was the test driver for Jack Brabham Ford where we both worked, lined me up to race his peppermint green Lotus twin-cam Mk1 Escort.” “We’d taken off in a symphony of noise, dust and wheel spin.I was revving the HO to 7,200rpm in 1st gear when I clutched to change to 2nd gear. We were flat out side by side on Newbridge Road at Moorebank, it was just before midnight.”“There was a loud bang! Then everything went pitch black.”“I had no headlights, and no dash lights. The electricals had been cut completely.” “Thunder struck, here I was doing 70 mile per hour trying to steer the big Falcon in complete darkness as I slammed on the brakes.My foot went straight to the floorboards and it took me a second to register that I was steering a runaway freight train!” tells Gary as he relives those harrowing frightening moments gripping the thin steering wheel with white knuckles whilst attempting to pull up a ton and a half of an out of control hunk of metal. If anybody had been watching this event unfold, they would have heard a loud explosion, and witnessed pieces of flywheel shrapnel explode through a bulging bonnet, and sparks coming from under the car where the rear of the engine block was tearing up the road. The gearbox bellhousing had also taken leave with the exploding flywheel, leaving Gary with a gearbox full of neutrals. “I was about a kilometre down the road before I came to a stop.”“Paul’s Escort had also suffered shrapnel wounds lodged from projectile bits of the flywheel embedded in his door panels.”“My ten day old car looked like it had been struck by lightning.”“It’s bonnet bulged upwards with a huge gaping hole where 20 ounces of flywheel had exited like an Apollo 11 rocket. The engine was now pointing skywards pressing against the underside of the bonnet.” A tow truck was quickly called from a nearby phone box, and the damaged Falcon GTHO taken to a local panel beater. “The next morning I was told it would be a write-off,” tells Gary, who then decided to have the car taken to another panel shop instead. “I’ll never forget the night the flywheel exploded,” says Gary. Two weeks later the Falcon was all repaired like new again. “The panel shop had offered me an XY GT style bonnet which came complete with air-scoop shaker assembly left over from a Falcon GT. The original XW grille was left on, but we added later model XY taillights.” Gary opted to remove the original black GT side stripes, “We did this for no other reason than to make it look different.” Mechanics at Jack Brabham Ford rebuilt the original motor with new bearings, and fitted a steel flywheel instead of the cast iron factory unit which had exploded into a million pieces. “They even had to repair the dowels at the back of the engine block which had broken off when the motor scraped along the road! The gearbox input shaft also needed to be replaced because it was bent like a banana. We ended up fitting after-market extractors as the original exhaust manifolds had been severely damaged. Before having the engine repaired, Gary who worked in spare parts at Jack Brabham Ford knew John Goss from McLeod Ford. “I had actually bought his ex-race car motor from his Phase Three GTHO for $300. I was going to rebuild it, but it was cheaper to repair my original engine. I sold this bare motor, less the Phase Three race camshaft which a mate fitted to his car, and broke even getting my money back on the whole deal. Originally registered with GT-187 number plates, the HO was re-registered with GT-388 after the repair. Gary kept his Falcon GTHO for a few years after this, and vividly remembers the first time he took it off the clock winding it past 140 miles per hour. “My wife and I were returning from my in-law’s house in Queanbeyan, and as we went through the township of Collector along the Federal Highway, a small Datsun 1600 was right on my backside along the windey bits.
“On the first open straight of road, I took the HO off the clock!”
“My nervous wife looked at the speedo and said ‘it’s on the H where it reads MPH (miles per hour)’.”“I took her word for it.”
“I wasn’t game to take my eyes off the road at that speed!” laughs Gary now.
Five decades would pass before Gary laid teary eyes on his old bright orange Falcon, which is now in the hands of Melbourne collector Joe Barca.
“I never thought I’d ever see my GTHO again,” says Gary in disbelief.
“I was thunder struck again, this time though by the condition it’s in now which is better than it was new!”
Chris Dent from Falcon GT Restorations in Sydney had completely restored this super-rare Ford for a previous owner to a Gold standard Concours condition, resulting in winning the Grand Champion
‘The Best Car of Show’ at the 2015 Falcon GT Nationals.
The current owner Joe tells,
“It had won every category in the show it was entered in.
It cleaned up every trophy! I had to have it.”
It was this moment that Joe knew he had to buy this outstanding GTHO should it ever come up for sale.
As chance would have it, not long after the Falcon came onto the market for sale by tender, and Joe was the successful bidder paying $500,000 for this very special one-of-a-kind car.
“It’s also my wife Debbie’s favourite colour,” states Joe with a wink, as he justifies this expensive purchase.
This said, the Phase Two isn’t Joe’s first rodeo as he’s owned many Falcon GTs and probably more GTHOs than anyone else on the planet.
Unbeknownst to Joe at the time, Gary Thompson the former owner was also the under-bidder who wanted to get his old car back.
Gary’s son Trent then arranged for his dad to see his old Falcon.
“As you can see Dad was very teary seeing it again,” says Trent.
“At least he got to sit behind the wheel again.”
It was at this time that Joe learnt more about this car’s history from Gary who shared his story and photos about the night the flywheel exploded.
This helped Joe to make sense of some minor existing battle scars in the transmission tunnel on the car.

according to a tweet by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford in 2018, it is indeed Gina Cross. Colette Green's fate is unspecified, but he suggests maybe G-Man found her useful enough/had enough compassion for her to put her in stasis like Shephard.
Opposing Force did come out before Decay, so considering that changes were still being made to Decay's story during development, far enough along that there are some voice lines and animations for the scrapped missions, it's likely they had no thoughts about anything that would happen in Decay's story when they decided to include Dr. Cross's dead body as an easter egg in OpFor. so, despite the confirmation by one of the people most likely to be considered An Authority on what happened in the expansions, the canon-icity of this is... slightly debatable? especially considering that (iirc) "Gina Cross's" body can actually be spotted in multiple Displacement Cannon locations in OpFor. so unless there was a wild teleporter accident that created multiple instances of her who all died in different spots... okay, wait, i said that as a hypothetical and a joke but now i like that a lot as a narrative device, fuck.
but you get what i'm saying. whether or not this is "canon" is dubious because you'd have to reconcile a lot of contradictory story elements in order to explain how one can accept this as true.

if you choose to take Pitchford's tweet as canon, what's especially strange (and tragic, i'll explain) is that Gina has never been shown wearing a red HEV suit anywhere else as far as i'm aware. she wears an orange suit when you see her hologram in the training program in Half-Life and Opposing Force, and she wears a tan/ivory suit in Decay.

red is Colette's color, which i imagine is probably the source of the initial confusion. which could lead you to conclude that, although this is gina, she's wearing colette's HEV suit. it would explain why she's alone. her suit may have been damaged beyond repair, and it wasn't enough to protect her, so she had to take Colette's as she went off on her own for one last desperate mission that required Gina to enter the Xen even after they and Dr. Keller thought they had successfully sealed the dimensional rift.
so, yeah, picture that. they only had one working suit left. so only one of them could go. and it had to be Cross because of her experience. and even despite their best efforts, despite Green giving up her hazard suit to give Cross the best odds, she still failed.
we know based on the ending of OpFor that the detonation of the nuclear bomb in the car park would have killed anyone still stuck at Black Mesa after a certain point, as Green and Keller almost definitely were if things went back to shit after the end of Decay, which they would have had to if Cross managed to end up dead in Xen. it doesn't make sense to say that they'd then just go "acceptable losses!" and book it, since they took so much responsibility upon themselves throughout Decay's story, so i feel they probably stayed and continued to dedicate themselves to damage control up until the very end. and, like, how would they have known about the bomb? communications were out. probably nobody except Shephard, the black ops team, and that one security guard would have been aware, realistically. so, even if Green and Keller would have wanted to escape and save themselves, there's virtually no way they'd have had enough advance notice to get out of there.
but since Colette's effort was admirable enough for her to deserve a reward in the G-Man's eyes (or maybe just to be kept in reserve in case she's needed later, depending on how you read G's motivations), she, like Shephard, was placed in stasis. and if she ever wakes up again, she'll presumably be without Keller since Pitchford makes no mention of him, and she'll definitely be without Gina.

Ever since my transmission axel fell off, I’ve been noticing that the gearbox just seemed to get more and more stiff, and recently I really needed to apply force to get the car into gear, reverse being the most troublesome as not only was it hard, but also made the same horrible noise a transmission makes when you try to put a gear in without the clutch.
So after much hesitation, and in fear that the issue was the gearbox itself, I finally relented and took the car to a checkup.
The good news, it’s not the gearbox, which is completely fine.
The bad news, it’s the clutch itself, which is basically in need of a complete replacement.
Getting the old clutch down and a new one in was quoted to me for 80 dollars, and the clutch itself, after spending a good while riding around in my bike checking, was 150 dollars, which I just spent.

But since I’m also in the middle of getting some paperwork done for a future job, basically getting some stuff from Venezuela into Colombia, something I’ve slacked off on big time, and that set me down 120 dollars just yesterday, I’m now effectively broke, not having enough for the mechanic, and that coupled with my recently broken bed, which remains in need of repair.

Please, anything you can spare will be of great help, for now I’d like to get the new clutch in place before anything else, as sleeping on the floor isn’t as dire as being one bad gear change away from totaling my gearbox, but if I get enough to also fix my bed, that would be just fantastic.
I haven’t asked for help in a while, I know it’s really fucking annoying to keep hearing about these issues, hence why I have done my best to keep emergency cash, but man, with all the stuff that happened with my cat last month, coupled with issues at work, I’m now back at 0 in terms of savings, and the least I think about my credit score, the better…

It seems like Kimi was also running the newer floor, and doing comparative work with Lewis on an older speck. Should George not have done this in f p2 seeing as he would have had more experience? I’ve been so annoyed with Toto’s obsession with Kimi. I just hope George is able to get back to the car later on and doesn’t have to take a penalty due to parts - It’s more work for his mechanics during a double header.
There won’t be any parts related penalties looking at the angle of impact it wouldn’t have harmed the gearbox or engine components, so no related penalties there and because parc ferme doesn’t come into place until after qualifying there will be no penalties for changing other parts on the car.
Yes it’s more work for the mechanics but crashes happen, and in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t look like there’s a huge amount of damage to repair.
It’s likely that they would have been testing the floor throughout FP1 and FP2. Experience of the driver isn’t a huge factor as they’ll be more so looking at sensor data,

or, How I Had To Re-Learn How To Drive After Two Decades

As you know, my father died over a year ago, leaving not only his apartment with a fully-stocked fridge, but also his car - a 2000 Nissan Patrol, at that point disassembled and split between a mechanic and a body shop, with the extensive repairs paid only halfway. A year later, it was finally put back together, with 3/4s of the drivetrain replaced, the frame rust-proofed and a new coat of Raptor finish in graphite color. Then, it stood at the local parking lot for five goddamn months before I got the courage to get behind the wheel and drive it.
So holy shit, there I was, trying to wriggle a two-ton War Elephant out of its parking space, some guy's shiny new Mercedes to the left, three trucks behind me and zero knowledge how the whole thing behaves - acceleration, braking, turn radius, I knew fuck-all about that. But, with some slight fettling, I got out of the parking space, out of the parking lot's gate and OHMOTHERFUCKERITURNEDTOOHARD. Literally, I turned the steering wheel too hard, jumped the curb, ran over the remnants of a decorative fence all of four inches tall and swung the car back onto the road in the initial stages of a heart attack.
Fuck. And I mean, FFFFFFFUCK. Turned out that the two-ton War Elephant has really nice power steering for a beast slightly more than half my age and I need to turn gently. So, down the street I go, letting the pedestrians cross the road as they have the right of way on crossings without traffic lights, the brakes aren't that bad either, the soundtrack from Brutal Legend is blasting from the radio because my dad bought one with an USB port long ago and then asked me to make a thumb drive with his favorite songs on it (which I, sadly, failed to do), I'm GOING. Baby, am I going. But then, I have to turn into the large avenue and I'm all kinds of afraid what's gonna happen then.
So, apparently, the first rule of the road is "act like everyone else, and nobody will suspect you don't have a driver's license" (I actually do, for the record, I just didn't have a car for the last two decades and the last one I had to drive was a rusted-out fifth-gen Nissan Sunny with a busted manual gearbox that had issues with switching gears). So I'm rolling down the avenue, regulation 50 per (km/h, mind you), and I haven't even killed anyone yet. I'm even using turn signals, correctly, because the War Elephant has an American dashboard with two separate turn indicator lights so I know whether I'm flashing left or right. So, off to the right lane and I tuuuurn right into another avenue.
Much to my joy, I see a "Speed Limit: 80" sign on the overpass (this one is a part of the large transit road through the town), so I floor it. I floor it so eagerly to keep on the tail of the guy before me that I go all the way to 100 per before noticing and gently slow down back to 80 before hitting the tunnel.
I fucking knew I forgot something, and that something were the headlights. Halfway into the tunnel, I turn the headlight knob, swearing and hoping that no undercover cop car saw me. Okay, now we're driving 100% legit, only one car honked at me, no hits, no scrapes, I stay in my line like a motherfucking tram. Off a roundabout that isn't a fucking roundabout (who even named it like that?!), down another street and after some more uneventful ride I arrive at my dad's former apartment to pick up some junk from the basement. Hell, even parallel parking was easy because someone was nice enough to leave a car and a half's worth of space between the two already there.
I forgot to turn off the lights, as you can see in the photo, because I'm a derp and I haven't figured out what the incessant pinging after turning the engine off meant. So I take the photo, notice the lights on, open the car again, turn the lights off and head to the basement to pick up the junk.
Coming back was a bit more difficult, mostly due to me being unable to tell which of the three turns left was the correct one (note to self, it's the third one, the largest), but it resulted in an "always wanted to say that" moment when some absolute fuckwad decided to cut from the right lane all the way to the left and up the overpass, prompting me to go "Turning left from the right lane, you unschooled dickwad?! Last time I've seen idiots like you in Night City!"

I've been playing a lot of Car Mechanic Simulator 2021, because it's just engaging enough to be compelling but also kind of mindless. I went to look for information about where to align tires, because it truly is a signpost-light experience, and I found someone complaining about how much you have to know about cars to get started, and how it makes the barrier for entry so high.
My brother in christ, my sister in sin, my comrade in the cause, what could you possibly need to know about cars, this whole fucking game is holding the left mouse button
I've sunk probably 20 hours into this game, and I could sooner become a gardener off of the teachings of Animal Crossing. Can you fucking imagine?!
"Ooh, looks like your gearbox is outlined in blue, you're looking at 600 CR right there. I'm happy to put it up on the crafting table and give 'er a go, we do repair up to Level 6 parts in this garage. We will be looking at having to hit just two green bars, so we're hoping like hell they come at the end of the row..."

Daniel’s hands are sweating around the wheel of his Nissan skyline— the engine revving and thrumming underneath him, almost too powerful for the car all frankensteined together.
He’d just had to repair the gearbox that morning when it started smoking; it’d gone completely to shit when he blew it out doing donuts with Lewis.
He glances sideways, out to his right.
Max is spotty and pale through the driver side window, face lit up white by the headlights. He’s wearing a too-big racing jacket that drowns him, jawline sharp in shadow as he clenches his teeth. 
Daniel shakes his foot, side to side between the accelerator and clutch.
The car tape is sticky against his hand when he ghosts it over the top of the stick-shift. He can just see a silhouette in his headlights holding up a flag. 
He pushes his mixtape into the radio; let’s go fucking racing written across white tape in messy scrawled sharpie. It clicks, whirrs, and music blasts out of his speakers.
The flag drops. 
The screeching squeal of wheels on asphalt as they peel out of the carpark— Daniel can hear the whooping shouts of people around him, sitting or standing on the hoods of their cars.
The swooping dropping feeling in his stomach as he flicks his car around the corner; his brain says too fast, his feet press on the accelerator, a plume of smoke as he powerslides sideways. The thrum of the bass through his car makes his seat vibrate, teeth juddering as he spots Max right behind him in his rearview mirror, nose of his red fuck-off car right at his arse.
Daniel feels the car jerk under him as he flicks the stick shift over— it’s smoking just slightly and he swears; if he can just get through it he thinks he can fucking win this thing.
The smell of gasoline and rubber in his nose, intoxicating as he round the final corner— Max is right alongside, his face is set and dangerous when Daniel flicks his eyes sideways. 
They’re driving right on the limit— Daniel can feel the rush of adrenaline sparking down his spine, foot right down on the accelerator on the straight line road, so fast he feels like he’s flying.
The flag comes down and he whoops, leans half out the window to yell into the cold night air as he flicks the wheel, spins his car around.
He can see Max grinning too as he parks it, pulls up alongside him to slap their hands together and pull him out of his open window.
Daniel’s grinning, hard, feels his cheeks bunching as Max laughs in his face.
“Did you fucking miss me!”

Let’s make a horrible TTRPG setting
Been absorbing way too much post apocalyptic and TTRPG stuff lately, so of course I'm working on a setting:
Glasslands
Named after the huge swaths of land which have been blasted by nuclear fire, Glasslands is a setting in which people have spent generations building and customizing family- and community-owned mechanical hardsuits.
Hardsuits
Hardsuits are not susceptible to radiation or cosmic rays because they're heavily shielded and rely mainly on purely mechanical systems rather than electronics to move the limbs and equipment. Most hardsuits use high pressure hydraulics pumped by their engines, and use complex gearboxes and pumping mechanisms similar to a car's power steering to drive them.
Over many generations of customization, repair, and new users, the hardsuits gain a sort of familial identity which sets each one apart from any other. Every hardsuit looks different, has different features, and is designed to fit different people.
Hardsuits are often powered by petroleum-based fuels, though some have been converted to work on alcohol, coal, or even burning wood. Many hardsuits use crude petroleum, and are often visible from long distances because of their exhaust columns. Larger mechanical mecha-type machines can use nuclear or steam power depending on who is running them, and each one is completely unique from all the rest.
The Glasslands
The glasslands themselves are huge swaths of land which have been glassed by atmospheric nuclear detonations, turning large areas into radioactive deadzones that look similar to wide expanses of obsidian or fields of cooled lava. Nothing grows in the glasslands, and they're extremely dangerous to traverse because they're highly irradiated and leave you visible for miles.
When traversing the glasslands, most groups will have spotters on designated watch rotations who ride a hardsuit and keep their eyes peeled in all directions. Because even the best hardsuit has extremely limited, tank-like visibility, it's important for their drivers to have spotters who can call out potential threats or obstacles that may not be visible through the tiny slot, aperture, or periscope available to them.
Travel
When traveling in groups, there are never enough hardsuits for more than one or two people, so anyone not in a hardsuit is carried in lead-lined tents on trailers, or sometimes in human-sized bags which hang off the outside of hardsuits. Whole families are sometimes carried slung in leaden bags which hang off a hardsuit like saddlebags on a horse.
The lead lined bodybags that hold a driver's companions are usually equipped with small interior lights, attached water reserves, waste catchers, and various air filtration systems. With enough rations, a person can live for a week or two in a bodybag, though that type of span is usually only for long-distance travel. Before exiting a bodybag, you should always check your external Geiger counter to make sure you're not going to turn into soup.
Carbon Forests
Stands of trees or tall buildings directly under the air bursts of atmospheric nuclear detonations result in hazardous areas called carbon forests. Because the energy from the blast is going straight down, perfectly vertical structures remain standing even in completely carbonized form, and are a great place to ambush or be ambushed.
Carbon forests are especially common along the west coast of the continental US and Canada where chains of nuclear detonations turned the redwoods and sierras into raging firestorms that lasted months. Areas like Los Angeles and the farmlands of the California Central Valley alternate between glasslands and carbon forests where population centers and huge farm communities were obliterated.
