Pioneering Green Energy Solutions
A Major Leap in Renewable Energy The UK government has announced a substantial investment of £80.6 million in four innovative Green Heat Network projects across England. Additionally, this investment heralds a new era of low-cost, greener heating solutions, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy development in the UK.   Transforming Waste into Energy One of the most notable projects, backed by £11 million from the government, will involve the residents of Bolton heating their homes and businesses with energy extracted from the town's sewer. Furthermore, this project, among others, demonstrates how energy sources can be found in unexpected places, thus offering a cleaner and more cost-effective heating alternative.
Impact on Homes and Businesses
Wide-Reaching Benefits Nearly 2,000 homes and businesses are set to benefit from these projects, which include converting waste heat from sewers, washing machines, and kitchens into a viable heating source. These initiatives not only promise lower energy bills for consumers but also contribute to the UK’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.   Investment in Heat Network Upgrades Alongside this, more than £8 million of government investment will go towards improving 34 inefficient heat networks. These upgrades aim to create a more reliable heating supply for over 9,000 residents, hospital patients, students, and public sector workers, ensuring both cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency.
Advancing Towards a Net-Zero Future
Cutting Carbon Emissions The projects in Exeter, London, and Hull are particularly geared towards reducing carbon emissions from homes and businesses. These initiatives are crucial in moving the UK closer to its ambitious net-zero target, showcasing the government’s dedication to sustainable energy solutions.   Emphasizing Energy Efficiency Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, highlighted the role of these projects in driving down energy costs and cutting carbon emissions. Additionally, he emphasized the UK's leading role in innovative energy solutions and underscored the importance of upgrading existing heat networks.
Strengthening the UK's Heat Network
Diverse Projects Across the Country The Green Heat Network Fund supports various projects, including the Exeter Energy Network, Hull East District Heat Network, and the Greenwich Peninsula ESCO District Heating Network in London. Moreover, these projects are leveraging air-source heat pumps, water-source heat pumps, and excess heat from industrial sources to provide low-carbon heating solutions.   Building a Sustainable Heating Infrastructure Heat networks are key in transitioning to sustainable heating solutions. By supplying heat to multiple buildings from a central source, they eliminate the need for individual, energy-intensive heating systems like gas boilers, contributing significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions.   Driving the UK Towards Greener Heating Today’s £80.6 million investment from the government’s Green Heat Network Fund is a testament to the UK’s commitment to innovative, sustainable heating solutions. By harnessing the power of renewable sources like sewer energy, these projects are setting the UK on a path towards a more sustainable, low-cost, and green future, ensuring that homes and businesses benefit from cleaner, more efficient heating while contributing to the global fight against climate change.   Sources: THX News, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero & Lord Callanan. This is Helio. It’s a stuffed animal giraffe that is one of my favorite characters. I’ve been slightly obsessed with sewing lately (sorry guys, I’m not gay yet) Anyways - when your working with fabric, It’s amazing how the fibers take over the whole damn studio. It was overwhelming at first. I think AJ solves the problem for now though. I keep every piece of thread, fiber, shred, strip, and particle i produce and organize it in bags - you’ll see the 3rd picture is my “Giraffe Hair” bag. So I’m gonna sew this guy using the textile remnants... and everything that I that remains I will use as stuffing. Then I’ll tell the story. - #nowaste #fiberart #giraffestuffedanimal #sixthmassextinction #nature #voicefortheplanet #climatechange #climatecrisis #globalwarming #6thmassextinction #carbonemissionreduction #makefashioncircular #ecofashion #lesswaste #lessismore #lowimpact #biodegradable #sustainablebusiness  #sustainableliving  #styledsustainably  #newsustainabledesign #slowfashionmovement  #slowfashion  #liveconsciously #theartofslowliving  #slowmovement (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8y7btdFWf9/?igshid=18o65j8sy7fah

Low-Carbon Urban Transport Philippines: Revolutionizing Transport
Tumblr media
A Sustainable Drive Toward Green Recovery
In a significant stride towards fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly urban transport system, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have forged a collaborative partnership. Together, they have initiated the process of turning over electric vehicles (EVs), EV charging stations, and various transport equipment to a selection of local governments in the Philippines. Notable recipients of this pioneering initiative encompass Pasig, Baguio, Santa Rosa, and Iloilo.   Paving the Way for Low-Carbon Transport At the official memorandum of agreement signing for this historic turnover, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized the pivotal role of public utility vehicles in adopting low-carbon transport methods. This, he noted, is critical in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change. "We recognize the urgency of green recovery. We want to promote mobility through projects that will protect the environment," Secretary Bautista declared, underscoring the need for a more sustainable and eco-conscious approach to transportation.
Transit-Oriented Development for a Greener Future
Secretary Bautista also revealed that the Department of Transportation is actively focusing on the establishment of transit-oriented development in the Philippines, a strategy designed to enhance low-carbon mobility. Such a sustainable and eco-friendly transport system, he explained, not only contributes to environmental preservation but also ensures faster, more efficient, and safer mobility for the country's residents.
Local Governments and Transport Cooperatives Join the Cause
As the local governments of Pasig, Baguio, Santa Rosa, and Iloilo, in tandem with three transport cooperatives, welcome the introduction of electric vehicles, EV charging stations, and other transport equipment, they are poised to play a pivotal role in feasibility studies. These studies, in turn, will lay the essential groundwork for the continued research and development of low-carbon transport systems.   A Green Vision for the Philippines One of the primary objectives of the Low-Carbon Transport (LCT) Project is to achieve a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions within the country. The ambitious goal is to reduce 69,103 tons of greenhouse gases, marking a significant stride towards a greener, more sustainable future for the Philippines.   Partnerships for Progress This groundbreaking agreement also involves transport cooperatives, which will actively participate in piloting the use of electric vehicles and EV charging stations. In Baguio City, notable institutions such as St. Louis University, the University of Cordilleras, and the University of Baguio will actively collaborate with the local government. Together, they will be involved in gathering essential data and conducting in-depth research using electric vehicles and EV equipment. This collected data, representing a significant step forward, may pave the way for the potential adoption of electric vehicles in public utility vehicles (PUVs). This action is part of the ongoing, resolute effort to build a more eco-conscious and sustainable transport network that resonates with the principles of green mobility and environmental responsibility.   Sources: THX News & Department of Transport. As promised. Turn up the volume! If your just waking up... your welcome? Something sure to wake you up. A little taste of the graphics being drawn up at the studio... cut to a track by “SebastiAn” on their album “Ross Ross Ross” - the track is entitled Head/Off. I can find them to tag so go to Spotify and check them out. I’ll share their link to our stories. . The reason I’m working in straight black on white, rather than my normal drawing style, is because it’s part of the printing process we are using. These drawings are digitized and printed on transparencies... then exposed to light. The black blocks the light and the white does not. And in this way we end up with silk screens stencils.... It’s super rad and highly modular new method cutting the waste of the silkscreen process to zero. All our screens fit in a folder as we ditched the big cumbersome wood frames... a method we invented recently at DA1 and we hope to get others using this same technique. - We will explain the method on our website once we are up and running God help us.
