Wedding Vows in Vegas by Was (Not Was)

I love the atmosphere in this song, smoky rooms and indifference and decisions made spur of the moment and late at night in cheap motels, but that's the way it is sometimes and it's no less deserving of a song kind of vibe.

Technicolor Dreaming by Cardiknox

Jangly neon and bitter. I like sad songs that are up tempo it gives a nice manic energy. A sense of being exhausted and wired at the same time. Good.

My Brain is Like a Sieve by Thomas Dolby

Gloomy lounge divorce music energy. People locked into draining relationships and still making themselves available to it. We love to see it.

Worlds Apart by The Codetalkers

Gives tired people at a bus depot on the edge of the desert going to Vegas. Also space imagery so a winner to me.

So there's like a theme to all these and I have to admit this is a playlist for an inexplicable Las Vegas AU I've been writing for the better part of this year. I hope to... complete it! Some day!

Wombat Astronaut by Plini

A non fic-related track finally. Really the whole album but this track in particular. I found Plini like 8 years ago through Bandcamp, which is how I get most of my music now. These notes just hit right. Make me think of being in a city again all wrapped up in sounds and lights.

“Out Of My Head” by Loote

After releasing their debut single, “High Without Your Love” back in May the American pop duo, Loote have been riding their own high this summer and released their latest single, “Out Of My Head” last week.

The New York based duo consists of Jackson Foote and Emma Lov Block after meeting in a writing class in college. Since then they signed to a Universal Music publishing deal, Island Records and more recently co-produced and co-wrote “No Promises” by Cheat Codes and Demi Lovato.

“Out Of My Head” is the first track to feature vocals from both members similar to the new Cardiknox music. The upbeat jam is a celebration of those who are able to distract you and get out out of your own head - all with modern production and perfectly blended vocals.

Cardiknox - Bad Boys

“Bad Boys” is the latest track from the Seattle duo of Lonnie Angle and Thomas Dutton: an ode to not-so-much making mistakes but dating them. Over the funk of the song’s slick guitar trickle, Cardiknox’s latest single is a glistening track; shimmering to the saccharine-sweet of Lonnie’s pop-perfect sugar. Although the track implies another story, what inspired Lonnie to do this track was rather an homage to her dad’s records more than anything as she explains:

"'Bad Boys', more than any other song we’ve written, feels in a lot of ways like an homage to all the music our dads played for us as kids. The disco tropes and retro feel bring me right back to my childhood living room, with my dad flipping records and showing me what it was to truly love music."

Fuck With You is the first single Los Angeles pop duo Lonnie Angle and Thomas Dutton has released as Cardiknox since their 2016 debut album Portrait. Its mellifluous electronica and dulcet synthpop is summer buoyant like Cheat Codes and saccharine hooking like Phoebe Ryan. The pair have been busy on the road on four national tours alongside Carly Rae Jepsen, The Knocks, and Phoebe Ryan, as well as hitting major festivals. I myself witnessed Cardiknox’s dance inducing energy and arresting charisma when they hit Popscene the New Parish in Oakland last summer.
