Magic Set Editor, the program I use to make custom cards, has a frame option for the "nyx border" around enchantment creatures. However, you have to turn on that option manually for each card. Fortunately, enchantment creatures aren't super common, so it's not a big deal.
However, in the new Magic set Foundations, they're giving all enchantments the nxy border. This leaves me with 3 options. 1) Manually set every enchantment to nyx border. 2) Keep just setting enchantment creatures, or don't bother with nyx at all anymore. 3) Hope that the devs update the program to auto nyx all enchantment.
I chose option 4: Dig around in the program's files to see if I could do it myself. The program already has auto border treatments for things like vehicles and snow, so it's obviously possible. But how difficult will it be to modify the code?
Turns out that a whole lot of the code is plaintext files that can be modified with any text editor, and the code for auto-snow was easily copied and repurposed. I changed just 3 lines, and now all my enchantments are nyx-ified!

Maro’s Bloomburrow Teaser
Before previews for Bloomburrow officially begin, I thought it would be fun to do another of my Duelist-style teasers where I give tiny hints of things to come. Note that I’m only giving you partial information.
First up, here are some things you can expect:
• A new mechanic which is a tweak on a mechanic from 2013
• “Destroy target creature” (a spell with only this rules text) gets a new mana cost
• A cycle of uncommon lands that each reference four creature types
• Counters in the set: +1/+1, blight, coin, finality, flood, flying, indestructible, loyalty, stash, stun, and supply
• A noncreature subtype makes its first return
• A ten-card cycle that acts as typal glue
• Two mechanics that came out in the same set return each part of a different two-color archetype
• The word “Squirrels” shows up four times in rules text
• A mythic cycle with a new symbol
• One of the cutest mechanics we’ve ever made
Next, here are some rules text that will be showing up on cards:
• “Create X tokens that are copies of target token you control.”
• “If you control a Raccoon, you may discard a card.”
• “Creatures your opponents control have base toughness 1.”
• “Whenever one or more other creatures you control leave the battlefield without dying,”
• “if it’s the first instant spell, the first sorcery spell, or the first Otter spell”
• “put a flood counter on target land.”
• “where X is the number of creatures you opponents controlled that were exiled this turn.”
• “for each other Squirrel and/or Food you control.”
• “As long as there are four or more card types among cards exiled with CARDNAME,”
• “up to one target artifact, creature, or planeswalker an opponent controls loses all abilities until your next turn.”
Here are some creature type lines from the set:
• Creature – Hamster Citizen
• Creature – Frog Advisor
• Creature – Skunk Assassin
• Creature – Raccoon Berserker
• Creature – Squirrel Warlock Bard
• Creature – Rabbit Mouse
• Legendary Creature – Badger Warrior
• Legendary Creature – Weasel Mercenary
• Legendary Creature – Elemental Elk
• Legendary Creature – Bird Dragon
Finally, here are some names in the set:
• Crumb and Get It
• Festivals of Embers
• Hop to It
• Kitnap
• Playful Shove
• Polliwallop
• Rabid Gnaw
• Shrike Force
• War Squeak
• Wishing Well

How to enable sun shadows in TS3, on Parallels for 64-bit Macs
Disclaimer: Back everything up. I can't take responsibility if you mess up your game files and the game doesn't run. Make a pristine copy of any file before you edit it. All that said...
Who is this tip for?
TS3 doesn't recognise Parallels' simulated GPU. This means that even if you set all your graphics settings to max, sun shadows (shadows cast by objects outdoors) are not rendered.
An example of sun shadows being successfully rendered:
Tumblr media
If you have no sun shadows, your game will not look like the above pic. You will see a drop shadow (dark circle) under the trunk of the tree but no detailed shadow. If that is the case, read on for...
How to Fix It
Go to Programme Files (x86) > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Game > Bin.
Tumblr media
Copy GraphicsCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr to a new location.
I recommend copying each file twice, with a copy of each in two folders marked 'Original' and 'Edited'. Then you have a spare copy of each under 'Original' that you can put back in the folder if you mess up.
Next go to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and open DeviceConfig.log.
Tumblr media
Scroll down inside the log and copy exactly the values from:
Name (database):
Vendor
Chipset: Vendor: and
Chipset: Device:
to a new note for later.
You may have no Vendor at all, or it may be Parallels. Your graphics device may be Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM) or it may simply be Parallels Display Adapter. I've seen a few variations of each name online from various people Parallels VMs; it seems to be a bit random.
For example, my Vendor name is empty, and my graphics device Name (database) is Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM). My Chipset Vendor is 5404c42, and my Chipset Device is 0000.
Tumblr media
Now open your new copy of GraphicsCards.sgr saved outside of Program Files. If you're not used to editing code I recommend downloading Sublime Text which is free, and changing syntax to C# under View which will allow you to check your entries more easily.
Tumblr media
Go to the very bottom of the file, add a new line under the final end, and add the following:
vendor "" 0x card 0x "" end
Use tab to indent the 'card' line like in my screenshot above. Take a look at the note you made earlier:
Add your Vendor between the first set of quotes
Add your Chipset: Vendor: value after the first 0x.
Add your Chipset: Device after the second 0x.
Add your Name (database) between the final set of quotes.
Check your spacing matches the above screenshot. Save and close GraphicsCards.
Open your new copy of GraphicsRules.sgr which you saved outside of Program Files earlier.
Tumblr media
Search for 'ATI' to find the right location.
Make a new line directly above elseif (match("${cardVendor}", "ATI")) and paste the following:
elseif (match("${cardVendor}", "")) if (match("${cardName}", "")) seti cardLevel $cardLevelUber seti isCardMatched true else seti cardLevel $cardLevelUber seti isCardMatched false endif setProp $ConfigGroup RenderShadowMode 2 setProp $ConfigGroup ShadowMapAllowNullColor 1
Make your indenting match the above screenshot. Again, referring to the note you made earlier:
Add your Vendor between the first set of empty quotes
Add your Name (Database) between the second set of empty quotes
Save the file and close it.
Now, copy your newly edited GraphicsCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr files to Programme Files (x86) > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Game > Bin.
When asked if you want to replace the files, select yes (make sure you have a backup copy of the originals first!)
Check it has worked
Open TS3 and check for sun shadows.
If you have CAW, the quickest way to check sun shadows are rendering - without waiting for all of TS3 and a save to load - is to make a new small map, place a few trees then open Edit In Game. You need to open Edit In Game - this method doesn't fix sun shadows in CAW itself. Zoom right in to your trees and check for sun shadows.
If TS3 (or EIG) doesn't run, or crashes on loading, there is a problem with your syntax or with the values you've pasted in. Put your backed-up original GraphicsCards.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr files back into Bin and ensure the game runs, then go back to try and find your mistake.
All credit to
The tens of people, too many to link, who have experimented with varying degrees of success with how to fix this issue across Reddit, EA Forums, etc. I simply amalgamated the working advice and added that you must copy your own values from your own DeviceConfig file.

Flavor Review - I know a lot of people think the cardname is cringe-worthy, but really think about it. This is "Children of the Corn" meets "In the Tall Grass". We've got a reference to two Kings here. 🤴

Cornwall's Random Card of the Day #797: Vaevictus Asmadi
Tumblr media
Vaevictus Asmadi is a rare from Legends.
This guy has three abilities which pretty much boil down to firebreathing. They probably coulda had it be "{1}: CARDNAME gets +1/+0 until end of turn" and still retain its functionality. Weirdly, modern templating lingo can only get that down from three lines to two. I'm sad they didn't do like a red for firebreathing, black for the shade ability, and green for toughness pumping, which still woulda been a bit problematic but woulda been fully in-line with how the colour pie and Magic in general worked at the time, rather than just face-pumping.

The white uncommons (and a couple of the hybrid cards)! As ever I'm open to feedback on any or all of these.
With the announcement of the Foundations Magic set, they've called out that they are adding the Nyx-style frame to all enchantments, and moving from "[cardname]" to "this [card type]", so you'll notice I've incorporated those templating changes here.
Transcriptions:
Cool Spook {1}{W} Enchantment Creature - Spirit [uncommon] Flying When this creature enters, exile target creature an opponent controls until this creature leaves the battlefield. 1/1
Cupid's Halo {2}{W} Enchantment - Aura [uncommon] Enchant Creature Enchanted creature has flying and "{T}: This creature deals 2 damage to target battle or attacking or blocking creature."
Cutter's Boomerang {1}{W} Sorcery [uncommon] Target creature you control gets +2/+0 and gains first strike and vigilance until end of turn. Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.)
Gigant Edge {3}{W}{W} Creature - Soldier [uncommon] Vigilance, ward {2} This creature enters with a shield counter on it. (If it would be dealt damage or destroyed, remove a shield counter from it instead.) 3/3
Starman {2}{W} Creature - Alien [uncommon] As long as it's your turn, this creature has flying. You may exert this creature as it attacks. If you do, it gains double strike until end of turn. (An exerted creature won't untap during your next untap step.) 2/1
Versus Meta Knight {1}{W}{W} Battle - Attack [uncommon] (As an attack enters, choose an opponent to protect it. You and others can attack it.) Flash When this battle enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control. It gains indestructible until end of turn. When this battle is defeated, exile up to two artifacts and/or enchantments and draw a card. 4
Waddle Dee {W} Creature - Alien [uncommon] Squad {2/W} (As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may pay {2} or {W} any number of times. When this creature enters the battlefield, create that many tokens that are copies of it.) 1/1
Beam's Capture {R/W} Instant [uncommon] As an additional cost to cast this spell, tap an untapped creature you control. Target creature an opponent controls can't block this turn.
Parasol's Shield {2}{W/U} Enchantment - Aura [uncommon] Enchant creature Enchanted creature gets +0/+2 and has flying. If enchanted creature would be destroyed, instead remove all damage marked on it and destroy this Aura.

So. The big question I have is, how does Elesh Norn, Mother of Machine interact with copy abilities, such as mirror dragon or whatever, where it enters the battlefield it becomes a copy, I know the card I'm thinking of create copies when it enters the battlefield, but I think you get what I'm asking. Does it create a separate copy of itself does it merge or does it activate twice overruling what was previously copied?
Tumblr media
The ability of Clone or similar cards is a replacement effect and not a triggered ability and won't be affected by Elesh Norn's abilities.
You can tell the difference between these types of effects because ETB triggers start with "When CARDNAME enters the battlefield", whereas Clone's ability is different. Other replacement effects that apply on ETB may read "As CARDNAME enters the battlefield", such as on shock lands like Watery Grave or cards like Vanquisher's Banner.

Artifact Creature - Insect
2
0/1
Indestructible
I DON'T KNOW WHAT MANA TO PLAY, BUT IT'LL INCLUDE WHITE, T, Exile a creature card from a graveyard: CARDNAME gains all the abilities of the exiled creature card until end of turn. This ability can be activated only as a sorcery.
When CARDNAME dies or is exiled, return all cards exiled with CARDNAME to the graveyard.
-----
Hey, wanna see the card I meant to get set up for the @inventors-fair Card Contest for this week? No? DON'T CARE :D
If you're curious to my process, usually I'll come up with The One Idea I Like, and either write it out somewhere and get it to my actual computer (this was a draft I was gonna grab text from, because I forgot Inkpad was a thing) where I'll throw it into MSE and tweak the templating. Then I'll usually workshop it with one of my friends (s/o to @sparkyyoungupstart who's been a godsend lately with assistance), dig into Deviantart and/or Artstation for some art if it's appropriate (for this one I wouldn't; just "metal bug" wouldn't REALLY get the point across unless the artist had some unique take on the concept that got the abilities to come across). Then, I'll sub, and be stressing over whether or not I should resub with a tweaked version until I send it!
Hope that's illuminating!

CHARACTER
Eileen is of impassive nature, very inexpressive, often going unnoticed among other students. She rarely speaks, participates little during lessons, and is often alone in public. She seems insensitive to teasing, pays little attention to rules, and often prefers to avoid crowded corridors. She is also very mysterious about her origins, childhood, and family, but can be good company if one takes the time to scratch the shell of stoicism she has built.

MEDICAL/PSYCHOLOGY
HEALTH/HYGIENE :
General health condition: Good
Sleep: She is often awake at night due to her insomnia and takes advantage of it to wander the corridors.
PSYCHOLOGY :
Variable. Despite her detached air, she internalizes a lot and is actually someone who is very stressed and very aware of the surrounding danger (the context in which she was raised, especially seeing her father regularly risking his life playing a double role, makes her one of the indirect witnesses of all the attempts by the Dark Lord to bring down Harry Potter.).
Behavioral disorder(s) : Anxiety, insomnia, selective mutism during traumatic events (especially if someone yells at her, she easily loses her composure)
General level of nervousness : 8/10 General level of violence : 2/10
Phobia(s) : It's paradoxical, but she is extremely anxious about sleeping, being alone, and especially not seeing her father come back after each mission.

FAMILY BACKGROUND
Father : Severus Snape
Mother : ?
Siblings : -
Tumblr media
6th part

General behavior towards others : When facing strangers, Eileen is naturally suspicious and very discreet. Once she gets to know a person, she can reveal a part of herself that is very carefree and even appears to be somewhat immodest compared to her usual behavior.
Sexual orientation : To be defined
Ease of attachment level : 2/10
Tumblr media
7th part
LIFESTYLE AND LIVING ENVIRONMENT
Patronus : Her patronus is a spider whose body distorts strangely when she moves.
Hobby, occupation(s) : Since she was little, her father improvised potions lessons in their living room when she couldn't sleep, and as she grew older, she developed a taste for it. Even before she could read properly, Eileen could distinguish any flower by its smell, recognize the leaves of plants by their shape, and adapt the ingredients according to the effect the potion should have. She excels in this subject and even reached a university level in her 5th year, although during class she simply does what is required with brilliance.
Tumblr media
8th part
BIOGRAPHY
Eileen Pride Prince was born on January 24, 1983, the only daughter of Severus Snape and a witch whose name is not mentioned. She carries the first and middle name of her father's mother, thus avoiding direct association with him while paying homage to their family history.
Her second name, "Pride," was given to her by Minerva, who, along with Dumbledore and Severus, is the only one aware of her origins.
During her childhood, and up until the war broke out in 1997, her father's true identity was kept secret to protect his role as a spy and Death Eater in service to Dumbledore. Eileen then grew up at Hogwarts, tossed between the forbidden ingredient reserves where she spent hours learning while her father took inventory, late-night potions lessons improvised in their living room, and the dark corridors where Mrs. Norris was sometimes her only company.
She excels in many subjects but stands out especially in potions, which she had mastered even before learning to read properly. Her entire childhood was filled with the scents of cauldrons, the vapors of macerating plants, and the bottling of potions that her father prepared, which she took care to label to help him.
A member of the Slytherin house, Eileen is known for being very intelligent, confident, and extremely cunning. Despite her cold nature, expressionless face, and imperturbable demeanor, she suffers from anxiety that often prevents her from sleeping, condemning her to wander the castle corridors in search of rest.
She has an unconditional love for her father, who raised and protected her despite the circumstances in which she was born and who continues to prioritize her whenever he can. Their relationship is unusual in that they rarely see each other during the day, contenting themselves with a teacher/student relationship when necessary. In the evenings, however, she takes advantage of the opportunity to slip into his office while Severus corrects his students' work, speaking rarely during these moments when she prefers to simply listen to him complain about his mediocre students.
As she grew older, her striking resemblance to Severus often made her the target of ridicule by other students. Her bony face, black hair, and drawn features reminded many of the Potions Master, who had never denied their relationship. In reality, the probability that they were linked in any way was so absurd that no one had ever gone beyond the mockery, thus preserving the secret that represents for Eileen the story of her life.

the slo ring will be popular in lists that care about activated abilities, but i doubt the back end of this is going to accomplish much. 9 mana (7 if you can start your combo tapped) and up to 5 specific cards is such a massive investment that your combo is going to have to win the game to be worth it, and with the "only once each turn" rider your choices to combo will be pretty limited. here are some low hanging fruit:
Magister's Scepter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
combine these with two self-untappers like the Monoliths or a Horseshoe Crab. note that your Empowered Autogenerator activation will not be doubled, but your untaps will, so you can still go infinite by making 3 counters a turn and using your last tap to spend on the scepter.
Sage of Hours
Tumblr media Tumblr media
essentially any creature with {T}: put a +1/+1 counter on CARDNAME will do, along with one untapper like Staff of Domination. each tap is 2 counters and each untap is doubled, so you're already getting 6 counters per turn.
Time Sieve
Tumblr media
it's time sieve. i'll let you figure this one out on your own.
Honorable Mention: Magosi
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
you can't combo directly with magosi since the craft ability specifies nonland cards only, but you can cobble together an infinite using the locus' static ability. as long as you bring a land untapper and a way to counter one of the skip activations, you can net one turn every two times you turn magosi sideways.

Cornwall's Random Card of the Day #846: Aminatou, the Fateshifter
Tumblr media
Aminatou, the Fateshifter is a mythic rare from some commander thing, seen here in its Double Masters 2022 printing.
I'm always at a bit of a loss as to what to say about planeswalkers. They're typically super powerful, but often in a fairly generic sense. WotC didn't want too many of them to be let-downs to anyone pulling one, of course. This one actually isn't overpowered, on inspection, just does a bunch of weird stuff with card selection and flickering.
I like the ulitmate! What a weird effect. Seems fun though. I also like how some planeswalkers have "CARDNAME can be your commander" even though WotC doesn't control the Commander Council and they could rule that no, they actually can't, if they liked. Overall, a bit of a weirdo. Planeswalker that does some rather random stuff introduced in supplemental materials only and who by now almost certainly is desparked. But we'll likely never know for certain.

This card wins the prize for MOST Untranslatable Name.
Tadpole in Japanese is 御玉杓子 (otamajakushi), which doesn't resemble the cardname's kanji at all.
Instead, the following characters are used: 悪魂邪苦止, which is phonetically also pronounced otamajakushi; where 悪 / 魂 / 邪 / 苦 / 止 are pronounced o / tama / ja / ku / shi, respectively.
The important part is 悪 / 魂 / 邪 / 苦 / 止 means "evil / soul / vice / pain / stop," respectively, giving these larval anurans a bit of an occult/demonic vibe.
There was really no way to convey this in English; the translators really had to improvise and even then doesn't convey the pun.
Assuming character length wasn't an issue, my personal try at it would be:
T.A.D.P.O.L.E. (Taboo Avaricious Deadly Pernicious Odious Lewd Evil)
