Larry, Chief Mouser at 10 Downing

Name: Larry Social Media Presence: Number10cat on Twitter Nationality: British Position: Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office. First to be officially granted title by government. Lives and works at 10 Downing Street since 2011. He formerly shared this position with Freya, another mouser.

Life Information: Born in April 2009 in London. Adopted from Battersea to be a pet to then Prime Minister Cameron's children. A hoax began, claiming that Larry was effectively stolen from a woman. His care is funded by the staff of 10 Downing. His official description:

He has captured the hearts of the Great British public and the press teams often camped outside the front door. In turn the nation sends him gifts and treats daily.

Larry spends his days greeting guests to the house, inspecting security defences and testing antique furniture for napping quality. His day-to-day responsibilities also include contemplating a solution to the mouse occupancy of the house. Larry says this is still ‘in tactical planning stage’. Scandal and Drama:

i think all the time about how jimmy stewart and henry fonda once rented out a place with feral cats and instead of getting someone out there to get rid of them they decided to try and domesticate them but couldn’t and those cats kept making more cats too so after awhile their place was overwhelmed by the presence of cats. like more than thirty and henry fonda named them all george to make it simpler. also one time when henry fonda was gone jimmy stewart and his cousin painted one of them purple bc they thought it would scare away the others and when fonda came back and they handed the cat to him he was so pissed off. eventually they had to move bc the place was so flea infested and idk that’s my favorite story ever. men just getting into chaos because they’re too gentle

I’m already well over 80 pages into this one and it’s honestly great. There’s definitely some differences with how modern biographies are written, such as the amount of detail Gaskell provides us with regarding where Charlotte grew up, what the area was like and what kinds of people lived there. But I feel like that only adds to the charm of the book.

It’s also interesting to read a biography of someone, written by one of their friends. That doesn’t happen too often I think, and it makes for a very different reading experience, because you already know that the author knew this person.

Nico got used to me within like 2 days of me adopting him, and proceeded to constantly sleep on me and climb on me for the next 3 years. he now acts like he is unbothered by anything mortal, and doesn’t dig being picked up too much, but he’ll still let you pet him and rub against your legs if he has been without attention too long. also he likes sleeping in closets, he didn’t know how to meow until he heard the kittens do it (and still has the softest meow ever), and he’s dramatic when i trim his nails but he never bites or scratches, to the point where he’ll avoid playing because the moment he playfully starts to bite and scratch, he’ll immediately run away after. ALSO he’s a pushover. baby literally hasn’t played with me in so long because the kittens are more energetic and pushy than him and he’ll just step back and leave to let them play, and if i try to close the door so it’s just us two he looks at me and the door like “but... the babies would love to play...”. also the kittens literally had to hide under the couch the first half year because they were so fucking tired of Nico running after them to groom them. my brother could come home for lunch like “where’s the kittens” and the answer was ALWAYS “under the couch”. he got less pushy as they grew up

Birba is SUPER skittish, she’s a darling but she gets scared SO easily, and the moment she hears someone she doesn’t know approaching the house she WILL find a corner to hide in. we thought we lost her multiple times because she would just hide that well and not come out. but she is the SWEETEST thing once she gets used to you. she’s super cuddly, she loves sleeping on you, she will keep headbutting your hand to be petted, and if you don’t give her attention she will keep on meowing in the SWEETEST voice. you WILL fall in love with her baby eyes. no ifs or buts.

Oscar on the other hand is SUPER needy! he WILL climb you (thankfully he grew out of the literally jumping on you phase), he WILL be in your personal space, he WILL be in your arms or on top of you, and you have NO CHOICE about it. he will meow at you if you dare not. put him down and he will jump back in your lap before you can even say anything. he will let you kiss him though. but he’s pushy, has been beaten up by his sister multiple times before because he will just Not leave her alone when she wants to chill, and we have to literally close him in my room at lunch time because he can and WILL push the other two away from their bowls to eat their food. no i am not starving him, he will just act like i am because he loves food that much.
