Cat-chan was the most fun to redesign aside from Rio. Even in the original series, she had one of the most unique designs I’ve seen in yu-gi-oh! and it’s a shame that she was relegated to a rival love interest. It sucks even harder when it’s so obvious she never had a chance with Yuma becauseofhisrelationshipswithallthedudecharachershshfjkdnd. 

Anyways, when designing for Cat-chan I decided I wanted to divert away from the simple gothic lolita girl and try a new angle for her. She was a recluse and can speak from experience that most recluses, or introverts for that matter, find solace in solitary, not face-to-face things like video games and cartoons.  

When most people come across cat-chan they assume that she must be sweet and cute. most people tend to patronize her and step over her boundaries and so she secludes herself and plays alone on her games. Despite that, She’s a witty, excitable, and mischievous young lady; she has a mouth that puts sailors to shame as well and it surprises people who manage to become genuine friends with her.

Storywise, She is one of the first friends Yuma makes in his journey that talks about other things besides dueling. She and he help each other in various ways he gets her out of her shell and she is his gaming buddy. As their friendship progresses and she meets more people and yuma’s other friends, Yuma finds that Cat-chan may feel some type of way for one his other friends...
