✦ — Diamon Fire (Hidden Legacy 3.5) — ✦
“Runa Etterson of House Etterson, Magus Venenata.” She stuck her hand out at me. Venenata was Latin for poison. Runa was a poison mage and she was smiling at me and holding her hand out. She could probably poison me by just breathing in my direction.
“Catalina Baylor. Of House Baylor.” I shook her hand. She grinned at me.
“Aha, took you a second. Don’t worry, I only poison random strangers on Tuesdays.”
“Today is Tuesday,” Leon said.
“Oops. Well, that’s okay. You told me your name, so we’re not strangers. You should be safe.” She turned to Leon. “But I don’t know who you are. No promises.”

Lele! I just wanna ask if you have book recommendations that can get me out of reading slump? Like books that are fast paced but easy to read. Thanks luv!
Hello!
When I get into a slump, I usually reach for something completely different. I read a lot of different genres because I will get bored reading the same kind of story over and over.
One option is to try something short, like a graphic novel or manga! Maybe you just need the satisfaction of completing something, and a volume of those can be read really quickly. A short story collection could work too! Anything so you can tell yourself "hey I finished X number of books this week" so you can get out of the slump mindset.
For something fast-paced, I'd recommend:
Uprooted, by Naomi Novik
Anything by Ilona Andrews, but right now Hidden Legacies is what I'm into, especially Catalina and Alessandro's books *finger guns*
The Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland
Taylor Jenkins Reid books are always compulsively readable
Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas
I hope this helps! Don't force yourself to read something you aren't into. It's supposed to be fun!

Graphic novel is a stupid term that often encompasses things that are not novels, but I used it as a blanket term for anything comics I read that were bound rather than stapled. Minis are shorter works, stapled, and generally self-published by the artist, or done by a small press like Shortbox or Youth in Decline. I was totally lazy about crediting creators on series because my actual list for that is a grid, keeping track of each issue. Similarly, when listing creators on trades, I tended to only list writer and artist which is enough for some books, but sometimes there are many more, inkers, and colorists and letterers, and maybe I’ll do better next year.
Support your local library, your local comic shop (especially Hub Comics if you’re in the Boston area), and indie comic shows like MICE.

dear yuletide writer
i can’t believe it’s that time of the year again. i’m so glad we matched up and whatever you have to offer, i’m 100% here for it, not matter which fandom you end up choosing ♥
I like: I love romcom tropes (there is only one bed ergo bed sharing, fake dating, fake married, accidental baby acquisition as well as accidental marriage or marriage of convenience and so on). I also like making out and enemies-to-lovers. Angst and longing and pining are great, if followed by a happy end.
I do like smut, but fade-to-black is more than fine.
I don’t like: rape, non/con, incest, infidelity, de-aging, body-switching, dubious consent. I’d also rather ignore that 2020 is still happening and everything to do with Covid-19.
The Mirror Visitor Series - Ophelie (Ophelia) x Thorn
The relationship between Ophelie and Thorn is so fascinating to me and I want more of it. I have read the whole series, because Book 4 became available in my mother tongue a few months back, so I cannot be spoiled, but I don’t expect you to have read it. (If by chance you have read it too, go for incorporating it.)
I’d love an introspection into their relationship after it’s all over. How they deal with the future together, how they make a life together, after they saved the world. They both have been through so much and they both deserve a happy ending.
I’d be open for Modern Day AUs as well. Keeping the arranged marriage aspect, they are from two different kingdoms, chosen to be married, to boost future King Thorn’s approval rating. I could also see a University AU with Ophelie being a librarian and Thorn as a prickly professor, who are constantly running into each other.
Heirs of Chicagoland - Elisa Sullivan x Connor Keene
I loved their relationship in Wicked Hour. They are only at the start of it, but it’s already shaping to be fantastic. Connor going “Do you think I wouldn’t go to war for you?” is very hot and I’m here for it.
I’d love anything regarding their status, Connor being the next Apex of the Pack, resulting in Elisa being his queen, by definition. The implications their differences have would be interesting to read. Elisa will probably not age, also there’s the topic of what their children will be like (if they have any).
Or maybe the opposite happens and the Pack simply won’t accept their relationship and Connor’s forced to give up his spot as Apex for Elisa, resulting in a lot of angst they have to overcome together.
I’d also be game for a fun evening dinner with them and their parents.
Hidden Legacy - Nevada Baylor, Catalina Baylor, Arabella Baylor, Augustine Montgomery
I love the Hidden Legacy Series with all my heart. The world building is so beautiful and literally every character so captivating.
I love the relationship between the sisters and would love to see their different strengths and weaknesses play out, maybe in a case fic they all three work together. Or maybe they want to find out more about their genetic heritage. As I said the series mythology is fascinating to me, and I’d love to see the science side of it expanded.
I’d also enjoy to read a story about any of the sister’s individually: Nevada adjusting to motherhood, Catalina and how she deals with the cut-throat life of being Head of House Baylor, anything you have in store for Arabella, maybe meeting Misha Marcotte, or how she deals with her powers.
I also requested Augustine. His tragic backstory is intriguing (and I’d love to see a story about it) and I enjoy reading about his moral ambiguity. On the one hand he is a family friend and on the other they don’t trust him in any farther than they can throw him. I’d definitely enjoy a glimpse into the various relationship he has with the Baylor family.
If none of this is any of your cup of tea, I’d also enjoy any story focused on Connor x Nevada or Catalina x Alessandro. I love all the canon ships and for Arabella I’m open to what seem to be the most prominent ones I’ve seen, with either Stephen Jiang or (in a future setting given the age gap) Augustine, or no relationship for at all.
Again, whatever story you end up writing, I’m more than sure I’ll enjoy. Just have fun ♥

💜💙💜 IT'S SAPPHIRE FLAMES DAY 💜💙💜 • I immediately read this as soon as my eARC approval notification came in my inbox and breezed through it in record time (I couldn't put it down!) I LOVE IT SO MUCH! *I'm actually rereading it again right now. heehee • "Standing like this, with him holding me was the safest I had ever felt in the last three years." • First, I loved the slow burn! It is reminiscent of Nevada x Connor's slow beginnings, but I felt like this moved slower bec Catalina was holding back more (and for a good reason: her powers and their brief history in the previous trilogy!). Then again, I loved BFM bec of the intensity in the protagonists' chemistry, and this felt even MORE intense! What with all the mystery behind Alessandro's skills and motives, and well, they're an established House now, and the Baylors are operating in a fresher and more challenging situation. Second, Catalina's such a lovable heroine! She's afraid and reluctant when initially facing problems popping up left and right, but she powers through and uses intelligence to sort them out of danger. She's gentler than Nevada in some ways, but she wields it into a strength that is entirely her own. I loved how she turns her genuine care for the well-being of others into a clear message about what their House is all about with her at the helm. Lastly, this book opened a lot of doors for an interesting storyline inside the complex of an already established world. A teeny-tiny part of me was scared (like a super teeny-tiny smidge) that I might not like this new storyarc bec Nevada's was a tough act to follow, but I shouldn't have doubted Ilona Andrews even a smidge. This is so worth the hype and excitement. I'm also so excited for the next book now that I don't know what to do with my life until it comes. LOL • " "You're right, you know." He raised my hand to his lips and kissed my fingers. "I am besotted." " • *I received a free eARC from the publisher thru Edelweiss for an honest review. . . . . #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookworm #instabooks #bookish #alwaysreading #UrbanFantasy #IlonaAndrews #HiddenLegacy #SapphireFlames #CatalinaBaylor https://www.instagram.com/p/B1q3VX3AThj/?igshid=14fzxkph8rtzz

Arne Jacobsen
Arne Jacobsen.
