Catholic Development Fund

In Sydney, the catholic services Sydney Development Fund is a major source of funding for local churches and church-related activities. It is a not-for-profit organisation that provides financial management services to parishes, schools and other church entities. It also offers competitive savings and investment products.

The Catholic Development Fund is one of the oldest and most experienced church funds in Australia, and serves a large geographic area. Its mission is to maximise the use of church funds for the benefit of the community. This includes building facilities such as schools, colleges, hospitals and aged care.

CDF Broken Bay exclusively services a range of Catholic Entities including Parishes, Schools, Agencies, Chaplaincies and Religious Institutes and Clergy. Its products are not available to individuals or entities that are not an Associate and/or an Affiliate. It operates under the authority of the Trustees of the Archdiocese. It provides the Treasury function for the Church in the Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn.

CatholicCare Sydney

CatholicCare Sydney (formerly Centacare) is the welfare agency of the Archdiocese of Sydney and operates community support activities such as home care, employment services, aged and disability services, family service – including child and relationship counselling, mental health wellbeing and chaplaincy. It is supported by one-off and ongoing donations, gifts in wills, bequests and the help of volunteers. It also runs the Catholic Children’s Homes Enquiry Service. It has offices in Bankstown, Belmore, Cabramatta West and Fairfield.

Communities of Care for Older People

Community involvement for older people is a vital part of a healthy society, and is linked to better health outcomes and social connection. A recent focus on fostering this connection is reflected in the work of Communities of Care, which provides a range of group classes and workshops to help parishes support their local community.

Providing home and community care services for people living in South Western Sydney is a significant challenge due to its growing and diverse demographic. A comprehensive needs assessment was conducted to identify community aged care service gaps and solutions in the region. It highlighted the importance of consumer driven models for integrated aged care that are based on individual community needs. The results have informed the development of a new model for aged care service provision in the region. The new model focuses on delaying entry to

Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs) and improving access to community support services. This approach is aimed at improving outcomes for older Australians.

Parish Finances

The Parish Finance Catholic Services is a consultative body mandated by church law to help the Pastor in financial administration of parish affairs. It serves on a par with the Parish Pastoral Council as part of the advisory leadership of the Church community.

It is a group of people who are discerned and invited by the pastor to serve as advisors in financial matters and oversee parish finances, budgeting, reserves and financial reporting. Members are invited to a three-year term and are appointed by the pastor.

A profit margin is how nonprofit organizations grow their capital, because they invest any dollars that come in above expenses into the organization. This helps to make sure that the church is able to continue operations, even in times of hardship.

The Parish Finance Committee is also responsible for organising fundraising activities for the church. This includes identifying opportunities for donations and working with professional investment advisors to ensure that the funds are invested in ways that maximize returns and minimize risk.

“Hãy yêu người lân cận như yêu chính mình”. Đó là một điều răn không thường được lặp lại trong các cuộc tranh luận công khai, có lẽ vì nó có vẻ hiển nhiên. Có lẽ cũng vì nó khó.

Nhưng có thể nào lý do mà những người Úc không phải là người bản địa không đạt được sự hòa giải với những người thuộc các Quốc gia đầu tiên của Úc là chúng ta không đủ yêu thương nhau?

Các cuộc biểu tình gần đây ở Úc do giết chết George Floyd đã làm nổi bật sự rạn nứt đang tiếp diễn trong cộng đồng của chúng ta.

Tôi không đặt câu hỏi về thiện chí của cộng đồng không phải thổ dân. Tôi không nói rằng chúng tôi đã không đạt được một số tiến bộ, cũng không phải là một khoảng cách quá lớn mà chúng tôi vẫn phải đi.

Đại đa số mọi người đều muốn những điều tốt đẹp của Những Dân tộc Đầu tiên của Úc. Nhưng làm thế nào chúng ta có thể hiểu rõ hơn về những bất bình và tổn thương của cộng đồng Thổ dân và Cư dân trên đảo Torres Strait? Chúng ta sẵn sàng hy sinh điều gì để đạt được hòa giải? Làm thế nào để chúng ta có thể yêu nhau nhiều hơn?

Gia đình là nơi tuyệt vời để học về tình yêu. Đúng vậy, có những gia đình rối loạn chức năng và bạo lực, nhưng hầu hết đều là những nơi tuyệt vời của sự hy sinh và lòng trắc ẩn. Hầu hết các bậc cha mẹ yêu con cái của họ ngay cả khi họ đấu tranh để hiểu chúng, ngay cả khi chúng không đồng ý. Khi lớn lên, chúng sẽ nhượng bộ cha mẹ như vậy vì họ yêu thương họ.

Chúng tôi làm việc chăm chỉ để đảm bảo không một đứa trẻ nào bị từ chối theo học Công giáo vì cha mẹ chúng không có khả năng chi trả. Chúng tôi rất biết ơn sự tài trợ của chính phủ đã giúp điều đó trở nên khả thi.

Giáo phận của tôi điều hành 18 trường tiểu học, và 1/5 trẻ em của chúng tôi là thổ dân. Đa số sống trong các cộng đồng thổ dân biệt lập, nơi mà hoàn cảnh hàng ngày của họ khiến Australia xấu hổ với tư cách là một quốc gia.

Chúng tôi có 33 Nhân viên Giáo dục Thổ dân, bốn giáo viên Thổ dân, và một Nhân viên Hỗ trợ Giáo dục Thổ dân hỗ trợ các trường học phát triển bản sắc văn hóa tích cực cho học sinh Thổ dân. Tất cả học sinh được học về văn hóa Thổ dân.

Cần phải hỗ trợ nhiều người Thổ dân hơn trong việc trở thành giáo viên, hiệu trưởng và nhà lãnh đạo trong các trường học của chúng ta. Sẽ là lý tưởng nếu các giáo viên và lãnh đạo thổ dân có thể phục vụ các cộng đồng truyền thống của họ.

Chúng tôi làm việc với các bậc cha mẹ và người chăm sóc là người Thổ dân để giúp họ được công nhận là giáo viên đầu tiên của con mình theo cách mà bản sắc văn hóa tích cực được nâng cao.

CatholicCare đã làm nổi bật với tôi hàng loạt vấn đề, từ việc thiếu khu hộ sinh, buộc phụ nữ thổ dân phải sinh con ở quê, đến việc thiếu các sáng kiến ​​ngăn chặn tự tử nhắm vào thanh niên. Những điều cơ bản nhất có thể gây khó khăn cho cuộc sống của những người thổ dân.

Khoảng cách và sự cô lập trong giáo phận của tôi có nghĩa là nhiều thổ dân không có giấy khai sinh, điều này ảnh hưởng đến khả năng lấy bằng lái xe hoặc mở tài khoản ngân hàng, tạo ra rào cản đối với việc làm.

Khoảng cách và sự cô lập cũng có nghĩa là nhiều người Úc không phải là bản địa không biết bất cứ ai là thổ dân, đặc biệt là một người thổ dân đang gặp khó khăn. Yêu những người mà chúng ta không quen biết còn khó hơn nhiều. Sẽ dễ dàng hơn nhiều để quên đi những vấn đề họ gặp phải khi chúng ta không nhìn thấy chúng.

Đáng buồn thay, Giáo hội Công giáo đã từng là một phần của vấn đề trong quá khứ của đất nước chúng ta. Nhưng tôi tin rằng chúng ta phải là một phần của giải pháp hiện tại – được hướng dẫn bởi các anh chị em Bản xứ của chúng ta và với sự cộng tác của nhiều người khác.

Điều đó có nghĩa là chúng tôi đảm bảo rằng sự quan tâm và tình yêu thương của chúng tôi dành cho Người Úc thuộc Các quốc gia đầu tiên không chỉ giới hạn trong một ngày Chủ nhật trong tháng Bảy hoặc Tuần lễ NAIDOC. Người Úc bản địa là dân số Công giáo phát triển nhanh nhất của chúng tôi.

Giá trị to lớn của các cuộc biểu tình Black Lives Matter, ra đời từ thảm kịch của cái chết của George Floyd, là họ đối đầu với chúng ta trước các vấn đề của Những người đầu tiên của Úc. Chúng ta có thể thấy, ít nhất là trên màn hình của mình, nỗi đau và sự tổn thương mà họ mang theo.

Các giám mục Công giáo trước đây đã yêu cầu một sự cấp bách mới đối với cam kết thu hẹp khoảng cách giữa các Dân tộc đầu tiên và phần còn lại của dân số, mô tả khoảng cách này là “một vết thương đang chảy ở trung tâm của quốc gia”.

Tôi không có bất kỳ giải pháp đơn giản nào, nhưng tôi biết vết thương này quá lớn để chính phủ có thể chữa lành một mình. Chìa khóa để giải quyết nỗi đau khủng khiếp, dai dẳng này là tất cả chúng ta cần phải mở lòng hơn để yêu thương người lân cận của mình.

Giáo hội có thể – và phải – lãnh đạo.
