Game Assets Notes
These are plants shown in Dragon Age but aren't named in universe, just in their model files or through identification of the textures. Since most filler plant textures are just that of real world plants.
**NOTE:** When I mention they are not the known name of any plant, this comes with the caveat of being popular common names. Common names are highly variable and inconsistent. They depend on regional knowledge and association. Some travel farther than others. Common names are also not reliable identifiers.
Acacia: Black Wood ~ Note: Black Wood is a type of acacia. Both acacia and black wood are named assets.
Artichoke ~ Note: Identification comes from asset name, the artichoke flower is used as ornamentation of a box.
Banyan Tree
Boxwood ~ A type of shrub, identification comes from asset name.
Bradford Pear ~ Their fruits are edible, however their flowers are known to emit a smell akin to rotting meat. Identification comes from asset name.
Calla Lily ~ Note: Not named but identified by the texture used. It is seen in Val Royeaux planters.
Cattail ~ Note: Seen through out DAO and DAI, identification comes from asset name.
Coleus ~ Note: Not named but identified by the texture used. It is seen in Val Royeaux planters and in the Frostback Basin.
Crape Myrtle
Cypress: Italian Cypress, Topiary Cypress ~ Note: In terms of the Italian Cypress, in world it wouldl likely be called the "Antivan Cypress" given that Antiva is pulling from Italian culture, food, environments, and other inspirational elements. Cypress is a plant that is named in canon.
Daikon Radish ~ Note: Found on Dennet's farm, identification comes from asset name.
Dogwood
Elephant Ear ~ Note: Foliage found in the Frostback Basin, identification comes from asset name.
Fade Berry
Fern: Red Fern, Sword Fern ~ Note: The red fern isn't a real plant and therefore can be considered unique to Thedas. In contrast the sword fern is a real plant. Identification comes from the asset name for both of these ferns.
Forest Clover
Foxleaf ~ Note: This is another plant that is not real, no plant has this common name as far as I could find.
Gasbloom ~ Note: Seen in the Arbor Wilds, the Frostback Basin some elven ruins, and the elven ruins of multiplayer levels. Their identification comes from the asset name. There are two versions of the texture the "fixed" version is used in JoH dlc and thus explains the difference in appearance. This is not the name of a known mushroom.
Hero Tree
Palm: Curly Palm, Fan Palm ~ Note: Both palms are seen in the Frostback Basin, both are identified by their named assets.
Pear Cactus ~ Note: Found in the Frostback Basin, identification comes from the asset name.
Pine: Chir Pine
Ponga Tree ~ Note: Also known as the 'Tree Fern'. This is the tree you see in Val Royeaux garden as coming from Par Vollen, and throughout the Arbor Wilds.
Redwood ~ Note: Identified by the name of the file asset. Found in the Winter Palace, Exalted Plains, and on multiplayer maps.
Snapdragon
Trex
Waterweed ~ Note: In real life this is an entire genus not one particular plant. Though the six plants in this genus do share the common name of waterweed.
White Birch
Witchhazel
Additional Notes and Trivia
Ironwood - Unclear if this is an alternative name, the actual name of the plant, or both.
Morel - This mushroom is inferred due to the existence of Blighted Morel. However it is not explicitly specified there is a non-blighted morel.
Sponge Root - Though canonical as it is mentioned and shown in World of Thedas vol. 2 on pg. 138 with a collection of deep mushroom and surface mushroom illustrations. This mushroom was cut twice from Inquisition. It was cut from the base game as a craftable, it had a much different appearance from its final design, and then it was cut again from Trespasser. It does however still make an appearance in Inquisition as the inventory icon for Crystal Grace.
Unnamed Glowing Mushroom Is mentioned in multiplayer when there are two Lukas playing.
Unnamed Mushroom These brown mushrooms are seen in the Fallow Mire and the Frostback Basin. They are shown in two different sizes ranging from shorter than a dwarf to taller than one.
There is one unlisted mushroom, its assets is named "red mushroom" and thus is identified by textures. These is not a canon name but is included for completeness. Amanita Muscaria: More commonly know as fly agaric or fly amanita, the red top with white spots is an iconic in its imagery. You will find large swaths of these mushrooms in the Frostback Basin. Their assets is named "Red Mushroom".
Winterberry is a real plant. However, from what we see in DA2, it does not the same as the plant we have in the real world, just a shared common name.
Wormroot is another real plant name. However, due to the description in The Calling, it does not seem to be the same plant. In The Calling it is used to treat the venom of a giant spider. The real world plant is used to treat parasites in the gut and does not seem to hold any shared uses in folk lore, folk medicine, or western medicine practices.

Botanical Projects
Since I have no chill and I want to talk about what I’m working on... So I’ve mentioned the Healer’s Field Guide previously, and mentioned how, depending if it goes well I would work on a more exhaustive resource. Which honestly if it doesn’t I still might do it but not to the scale I dream of. That is the Healer’s Handbook. So lemme tell you the difference because it is sort of the embodiment of the original project, but I want to release some plant stuff before DA 4 so we’re making a compact version first. So the Healer’s Handbook would be more encyclopedic. Where the Field Guide has the illustration and basics of medicinal and alchemic uses, as well as where to find the plant and a description on a two page spread. The handbook would have more thorough spread with each plant at about 8 pages. Why? Because I like plants and I want to write more.
This would include the basics of the field guide as well as additional information that expands into more in-depth ethnobotany, additional recipes, astrological meaning, ways to cultivate, herbalist notes, best practices for the plant, and a section of additional uses.
I have a rough idea of what I want as well as all the plants canonically mentioned in the game that serve, historically in the term of real plants, medicinal and alchemic uses. So... This is the plan for the Handbook as of now. (Its long due to all the plants so its going under the cut sorry)

Medicinal Uses Biomes Seasonal Availability Flower Language: Tevinter/Orlais, Elven, and Antivan? Speculative Designs Bibliography Glossary
Something that should be noted is that there are multiple listings for Spindleweed, Deathroot, Embrium, and Elfroot. As in not only their varieties but a common name. I explain why I chose that in the foreword of these projects, but to summarize simply, it is because in the scope of the game it would be rather cumbersome for them to have varieties for every area. So, for the sake of realism and to expand in the area the games cannot and allow for all designs and changes in the plants we see from Origins to Inquisition, I have the “Common” variety. Which is simply their name.
It is also derived from the fact that there is some cut content that I came across where they did fiddle with things. Like the landform of Spindleweed. There are a few more cut content plants that would be 100% speculative as I only have their designs and none of the possible content for them and as such I’m still debating if I want to include those.
But yeah. Along with my maps and other things I’m working on this. Though the botanical project is taking up my main focus do to its easy accessibility when my health knocks my legs out from under me.

Sip-Sips of Thedas Collection: Sun Blonde Vint-1 Fenris
Sun Blonde Vint-1 is described in the codex as: Tevinter-brewed for a very discreet clientèle, and strong enough to fluster a tranquil. An almost weightless spirit best served with a powdering of catsbane as a flavor-enhancer and antidote.

Bottles of Thedas 5-8 Rating: T for alcohol and language, I guess Pairings: Eventual Solavellan and Adoribull Summary: Parts 5-8 of 20 ficlets inspired by the Bottles of Thedas codex
Bottles 1-4 / Bottles 5-8 /  Bottles 9-12 / Bottles 13-16 / Bottles 17-20
(Read all 20 on AO3!)
Sun Blonde Vint-1
“Well, what do have we here?”  Empty waterskin forgotten, Dorian nudged the smooth river rocks aside with his foot to reveal the half-obscured golden glass bottle.  “Either the Venatori or someone in their employ has been through here.  I’d know this Tevinter brew anywhere.  It’s not cheap.”
“Yeah?  Is it any good?” Ren asked, leaning over the neck of her hart to get a better look.  The animal snorted and dipped his head to get a drink from the river.
“If by good, you mean strong, yes,” he replied and tossed her the bottle so he could refill his waterskin.  “There’s more than just alcohol in it, if you catch my meaning.  As far as tasting good, no, not really.  Catsbane helps balance the flavor and cure the rather intense hangover it causes, but I don’t believe that grows this far south?”
Ren nodded her head and pried the cork out.  Her nose crinkled at the sharp, stale scent of deep mushrooms.  Not enough to poison anyone, but probably enough to cause some spectacular hallucinations when combined with the alcohol.  That explained the need for catsbane, to settle the stomach and head.  “So what you’re saying is, we probably shouldn’t down this bottle in one sitting.”
“Not if we want to be able to move in the morning, no.”  Dorian chuckled and remounted his spirited mare.
“You know Bull will take that as a challenge.”  She replaced the cork and nestled it into the bottom of her saddlebag.
Dorian sighed.  “He always does.  Maybe keep that one hidden until we get back to Skyhold.  It should make for an exciting night.”
Aqua Magus
“You seem agitated, Cole. Is everything alright?”
The spirit boy had been pacing in a confused, disjointed spiral that slowly moved towards the south.  He stopped when Solas called out to him.  “I hear the song, but it’s… strange.   Muddled, murky, muted, like music heard underwater.  I can’t figure out where it’s coming from.”
“The song?”
“Lyrium.  I think.”  He shook his head.  “But it’s not quite right.”
“Well, you seem to be trailing in this direction.  The scouts reported an old logging camp a short distance from here.  Perhaps that is where it is coming from.”  Solas used his staff as a walking stick, tired after a long day in the sweltering desert sun.  The cold night air was a refreshing change, but not energizing.  “Shall we?”
Cole fell into line at his heels, shuffling through the sand.  “Yes.  Thank you.”
They crested the hill overlooking the abandoned camp, half buried by years of windblown sand.  Cole perked as they neared.
“I can hear it better now.  It’s very strange.  The melody twists and curls and echoes, like it wants to go one way but falls another.”  He fell to his knees and pushed sand away to reveal a brilliant blue glow.  Deeper he dug, unearthing a glass bottle with a label perfectly preserved by darkness and the dry desert air.
Solas let out a quiet chuckle.  “Like it’s drunk?”
“Maybe.  Yes.”  Cole cocked his head to the side, listening, like a confused puppy.  “But it’s different than before.  That one hummed, a small forgotten tune, it didn’t sing like this.”
“You are referring to the bottle you found in Emprise du Lion?”  Solas took the bottle from the boy’s loose hand and examined it.  “The Inquisitor showed it to me.  This is far newer, and the lyrium concentration far higher.  The higher lyrium content in the alcohol is distorting the song.”
Cole nodded.  “She liked that one.  The lyrium tickled, dancing on her tongue.  This would be stronger.  She’ll like it, too.”
“Maybe a little too strong for someone who isn’t a mage,” Solas considered outloud.  Lyrium was easy to overdose on without the abilities to burn the excess energy.  “But it should be fine.  Dorian will know the danger and consume the lion’s share, and she’ll wait to share with him.”
The boy blinked at him.  “There’s a lion in Skyhold?”
“Just a figure of speech.  Let’s go back to camp, and you can give it to her.”
Dragon Piss
The Iron Bull looked up from his mug as the Inquisitor approached.  Her face was schooled into a neutral, innocent expression, but her large, green eyes betrayed it, gleaming with mischief.  Her hands were tucked behind her back, hiding something from him.  He gave no suspicion away as he greeted her with a polite nod.
“What can I do for you, boss?”
“Got a present for you, Bull.  And your boys, if you feel like sharing.  I found it yesterday, while helping Blackwall look for his warden stuff.”
The brow over his lone eye arched pointedly as he recalled exactly where she’d gone that day.  On one hand, her gifts tended towards rare and exotic alcohol or fancy new weaponry.  On the other…  “You found something for me in a demon-infested plague hole?”
Ren laughed, completely unoffended by his tone.  She probably expected it.  “Don’t judge just yet, Solas says it’s demon-free.  And plague-free.  I think you’ll like it.”  She drew her hands out from behind her back and handed him what was obviously a bottle wrapped in a cloth.
He accepted it with the trepidation one might have when receiving a live snakes and cautiously peeled back the fabric.  All his unease melted away into a delighted laugh he couldn’t hope to contain.  “It’s perfect, absolutely perfect.
He popped the cork with practiced ease and laughed again as the acrid smell made the elf wince.
“I hope that isn’t literal,” Ren said and surreptitiously started for the door.
Bull stopped her with a hand almost as wide as her shoulder and pulled her into the chair beside him, still grinning.
“KREM!” he bellowed.  “Get the boys!  Tonight we’re drinking Dragon Piss!”
Hirol’s Lava Burst
Varric sat at the head of the table, calmly sipping his wine and committing every detail in front of him to memory.
The Iron Bull was bearing it the best of the group, only choking his drink down with a hoarse cough and blinking back tears.  He’d probably had it before.  True to his unflappable, masochistic personality, he was pouring himself a second shot.
Cassandra’s face was beet red as she downed a few glasses of water in quick succession before slamming the cup on the table and gasping for air.
Blackwall was attempting to take a page out of the Seeker’s book of quiet stoicism, but failing miserably.  He mopped sweat dripping down his beard and softly cursed every decision he’d made to lead to this night.
Sera and the Inquisitor were faring the worst of the lot.  Despite their wildly different backgrounds, neither elf had been introduced to anything near the heat they had just ingested.  Ferelden was famous for its bland dishes, and the Dalish elf had never even heard of chile peppers.  Tears poured down their faces as they tried to drown the heat in their throats.
“I tried to warn them,” Dorian said as he brought over a pitcher of milk this time, hoping it would ease their suffering a little more than the water they’d been chugging.  He’d declined drinking, saying that he’d seen and suffered that liquor before at one of his classmate’s illicit parties.  It was famously banned outside the Deep Roads.
“That you did, Sparkler.  That you did,” Varric replied with a chuckle.  “Most dwarven brewers are insane, but Hirol was a special breed all his own.”
“It tastes like burning,” Ren gasped and slid bonelessly out of her chair to the floor.

For DWC: Fen/Solas - "Drunk, at the end of your rope"
YAY FOR MY FIRST PROMPT FOR/AND ALSO @dadrunkwriting!
I shouldn’t have even wanted to drinkagain; it’s what got me into this mess in the first place. But here I was, headdown and arms crossed, crossing the street into the bar. The sun hadn’t evenset, yet. Slipping inside, I didn’t expect to see anyone at the bar at 4:30 ona Tuesday evening—but there he was. Fen.Draped face-first over the bar, forehead against the lacquered wood.
He looked unconscious, but I knew fromDalish and Krem working here that they wouldn’t have over-served him onpurpose.“Solas—Er, Fen?” I slipped into the space between his barstool and the next, touching hisshoulder. His eyes blinked open slowly before he turned to look at me.
“Wha’ da they pu’ ‘n thiss s’uff?” Helooked at the glass in his hand as I took it from him.
Sun Blonde Vint-1. The unmistakable scent turned my stomach. Talk about aflashback….
“What in Mythal’s name are you doing?”But Fen just continued looking at me like I wasn’t really there.
“Amnn I s’possed to be haalucina’ingg?”He lifted his head to towards the barkeep, who looked an appropriate mix ofconcerned and embarrassed.
“Do you have any Catsbane? Or sometoast?” The guy looked at me nervously, moving his jaw like his mouth was dry.
“I have bread? I’ll go make toast—” Poorkid thought I was mad at him, I guess.
“He c’n sssee you?” Fen looked at meagain, surprised now that his “trip” was all-inclusive.
“Crazy, right?” I was not happy withhim. Like, what the Void was he doing?
“Yourre reeal!” Fen’s handunceremoniously palmed my face
“Yes, you ass,” I swatted his hand away,“I’m real. What are you doing here?”He looked at me, a drunken caricature of himself, as I had just asked the moststupid question. The bartender returned setting the plate of…Shit, that’s a lot of toast. I handed Fen a triangle.
Fen…is such an ass. Creators, he’s a gorgeous ass, though.
“You woul’ntt talkta me,” He looked likea kicked puppy, nibbling the bread woefully; my stomach did a flip. “Yourre ssoooo upseptt… I juss’ wannamake you bet—better, ‘n’ ‘appy uhgain.”“I’m the one I’m upset with, Fen,” Igestured to the bartender for a go-box, and he nodded timidly, “Did you driveyourself here?”
“Myy caar,” Fen nodded to the bartop, asif it were chiding at him.
“Gimme your keys.”
He handed them to me without objection. The barkeep boxed up the toast and thanked me for “being so chill with this”. Ijust nodded as I tried to wrangle Fen off of his barstool, having to supporthis tall, sluggish weight leaning on me. He was walking fairly well, considering he couldn’t stand on his own.
“What does your car look like?” Iscanned the block in the now-dim twilight, squinting.
“S’ thatt onne,” He pointed to the carnearest to our left, and I unlocked the door, easing him into the passengerseat. I ran around to the opposite side and crawled behind the wheel.
ByElgar'nan, his legs are long….Ah, shit. It’s stick-shift. Great.
“Where do you live?” I looked over tosee Fen staring tragically out the passenger window, “Keep eating your toast.”“T’rnn leff’, th’nn ‘mmediatt nexx’ righ’, th’nn yer firss’ leff’,” Hegestured, still pouting, “Firss’ apar’mennss buil’inn’. Codessone-too-fourrr-ssevenn.”
I scooted the seat up as far as I could, still having to use my tiptoes to reach the clutch and pedals. It has been a minute since I drove stick.
Oh well, here-goes….
I managed to get to his apartment andinto a parking space with minimal transmission screeching. Trying to get himout of the passenger seat was more difficult, but we managed to get into thebuilding and he guided me to the last door on the first floor.
“Which key?” I raised his key-ring, andhe pointed, struggling to pay attention.
Well,he’s still conscious, at least. That’s better than you managed.
I unlocked the door and shuffled himover to the couch. He flopped down without comment, and I glanced around:grateful I wouldn’t need to try moving him again after seeing his bed was aloft, only accessible by ladder. I went into his kitchenette and startedopening cabinets, finding a glass to fill with water.
“Fen,” I handed him the water, pushingthe toast back into his lap, “Where is your Catsbane?”
“S’ onllyyy a’lil leff’. S’in thepanntreee.”
He was struggling to stay awake. I foundthe herb jar marked—and Fen was right, there was almost none left—but a littlewas better than nothing, so I had him tilt his head back, taping the bottom ofthe jar until it was all in his mouth. He took a large swig of water to get itdown, and let his head loll to the side to face me. I sat on the floor besidehim, smoothing his fly-aways back and away from his clammy forehead.
“I wishh youdd talkta me, Nae,” He evenslurred his whisper, and my irritation with him was beginning to falter.
“Well, I’m here now,” I tried to keep myface straight, “What do you want to talk about?”“Mm,” He huffed slightly, straining through a long, slow blink—“I thin’, I thin’ I’mnn lovee wi’hyouu.”
I froze, and his eyes shut again. Forgood, it seemed this time. I’d stay a little bit longer, just to make sure hewouldn’t stop breathing suddenly, but then I’d go.
Thankthe Creators he won’t remember this when he wakes up. They need to rename thatSun Blonde, “Mind-Eraser”….

2nd couple I finished, wohoo! This is Selena and Bane and I don't know if they've been paired together before? I tried really hard to find if there was anything, so if you know about something I couldn't find, I'd be grateful if you let me know. Also just to clarify, Bane is the straight ally, Selena is for sure bisexual.

I've had no internet for about 3 days now, but I'm back, babies!!!
Also I'm just going to slap all the playlists I currently have into one post instead of staggering them; they all get updated as often as Fluffy and I think a song fits anyhow.
I would appreciate song suggestions for characters I don't have covered (or ones already listed, that's cool too) if you have one in mind that you think fits. Please don't be offended if we don't end up adding them though, it still has to feel right to us, but it's nice to be told about them, :)
There will be rogues/characters you may have not seen yet, they'll show up eventually, I promise, Sars is very bad at planning and doing, we shame! (lighthearted)

I said I was making an herb book. Well, now its two since there is so much. But you all better enjoy this feast because I’ve been to the void and back scraping up not just herbs but also medicinal practices and I’ve gone down so many rabbit holes. Like its fun but I’m sorta just like “No one needs this lol”. That said art is stymied at the moment cause health. So we’re researching and dictating things. Look at all that progress. More progress beneath the cut but like its not art so...
Here’s my current to do list... The second column is so long I’d have to scroll down....
Tumblr media
