Oh what a coincidence, my sibling has been replaying Arkham Knight too! What are your opinions on the Arkham series? The story? Designs? I quite liked the first two, I wasn't a big fan of the car mechanics in the third but I appreciate a good scarecrow plot

I love the series but I enjoy playing more than the stories. My favorite of the series is Arkham Knight, I love the open world, the story, the environments, and the gameplay. It seems like most people hate the car, including myself but I do get a kick out of how violently I smack into things or how easily I flip myself over, especially while Eddie yells at me. I don't like that a big chunk of the puzzles are reliant on the car. I just enjoy being Batman and talking to myself in character. Also, I think Arkham Knight Scarecrow is hot, so more reason to play.

I do like how much all the games have in terms of content, there's so much to do and look at. Origins is my least favorite, I find it a bit boring and it's a pretty buggy game in my experience but it does offer a lot to do compared to City and Asylum. Also, I collected all the "riddles" in Origins TWO TIMES and it glitched in such a way it thought I still had one riddle left so I didn't get the prize for getting all the riddles. Despite these issues, I would like to 100% it eventually like I have with the other three.

I love the art and designs and all the little attention to detail. I appreciate that you can look at the concept art in each game, as I would love to do stuff like that for my career. Though I think artistically they're all pleasant I'm not a big fan of a lot of the characterizations, I wouldn't say the writing is bad the stories are pretty solid but it's mostly the way characters are written that I have an issue with. Especially, Batman, I feel like he's out of character a lot of the time and seems too pessimistic about things, especially in regards to the villains. He seems to have no hope of helping them and is pretty rude to them. Like calling Waylon ugly or just completely dehumanizing him calling Waylon an animal or referring to him as "it". Or when he brings up Eddie's diagnoses as if he's stuck like that or there's no hope for him to recover when there are most certainly treatments for someone with those mental illnesses/disabilities. It rubs me the wrong way whenever, at least when I perceive it to be that way, any kind of illness or disability (mental or physical) is treated like that makes you evil or it means there's no hope for you because the aforementioned "issues" prevent you from changing. You could argue that they are choosing to be horrible people, but I don't feel like that is what is being communicated. Maybe that's just my own bias.

Also, the conditions of Arkham don't seem to be brought up, in regards to Asylum and City. Like that's why they're not getting better and actively getting worse. It seems like Batman has little compassion for anyone and just wants to send the rogues to jail and the way he treats his allies doesn't seem like "I'm doing this to protect you because I care" rather that they are just in his way. Overall it's just too gloomy for me. Maybe because it's written for a video game and it's trying to avoid ludo narrative dissonance. I don't know, I'm not an expert. Because of this I always joke that I've killed whatever enemy (ies) I've taken out. I make my own fun and joke around a lot while playing to enjoy the world more. I don't want to think about the bleakness of it.

Despite the outlook being relatively grim and bleak, they are some of my favorite video games ever. I don't have to be enveloped in that story and can just enjoy the gameplay and do my own silly little thing being an absolute gremlin of a Batman and making the characters kiss in my mind. It's just a fun place to scream and yell and run around and say "I'm Batman" to myself while flirting or yelling at whatever character (or making them flirt/yell at each other).

What are your general inspirations for the scare beast form?

I was mainly inspired by the animal kingdom. I'm enamored by all things biology and scarebeast is the perfect opportunity to express that. I also love horror and monsters. Though there were no specific monsters that inspired my design, it was more general concepts and ideas that I enjoyed. Though maybe a sub-conscious inspiration is the Xenomorph from Alien. I love the idea of monsters being a personification of aspects of humanity or an individual. My favorite is when they represent suffering and trauma. The creature itself is in pain as the result of the hubris of others. Scarebest fits so well with that idea.

The animal kingdom has a lot to offer in terms of brutality and horror. Most environments are unforgiving and so animals must adapt to that harshness. Things that we as humans are scared of from fiction or otherwise is an experience animals have every day. An animal is scariest when it is scared. So I tried to work with that idea. Jonathan has lost his human perception and sense of logic and reasoning, he's only left with what is ahead of him and the ringing question of "Will I survive today?" Acting solely on instinct and a drive to live. That is not a fight any organism wants to lose and they will do everything to win. It is unwise to get in the way of that when it's a ten-foot genetic abomination with several means of killing you.

I hope that's comprehensive. I have a hard time expressing ideas like that into words, if you need more clarification let me know.

If Scarebeast is made up of several kinds of animals, how long does he sleep? During the day or through the night? Sorry if you've already spoken on this

Serious answer, he becomes entirely nocturnal. At first, he'd sleep from sunrise to sundown, but the longer he's in this form the more lethargic he gets. So he spends more and more time sleeping as time goes on.

I can only imagine how traumatic Jon’s first transformation into scarebeast was for him and Ed.

Even when he changed back he probably felt awful and was so confused as to what happened

It is very traumatic for both of them. However, they are not together when Jonathan is first scarebeast. This didn't make it any less scary for Ed though. They communicate well about where they are and how long they'll be out when they do things separately, which isn't often. So Ed assumes the worst when Jonathan doesn't come back.

Ed goes to the last location Jonathan said he'd be, and searches frantically for any clues about what had happened or where he might be. If the worst had happened he would hope to find a body. There are hardly any leads. Just some vague traces of a scuffle.

Meanwhile, Jonathan undergoes an excruciating transformation. Feeling his grip on his consciousness slipping, being fully aware he is becoming a beast both body and mind. Going through some of the worst pain he has experienced to merely become a pawn for Penguin. (also, the transformation is so rapid it produces heat. So it would look like he's steaming)

Both are alone and scared.

The reversal of the transformation is not much better. It was excruciating to turn back as well. He was on the brink of death as scarebeast from how resource-intensive the form was, his deteriorated health and the trauma of transforming back nearly kills him. There's barely any sign of life, and he would have given up if Ed wasn't there.

Jonathan has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Ed's health also declines from the situation, being too focused on Jo to care about himself. So despite the pain, Jo tries his best to appear fine for Ed's sake. As always they both have to take care of each other.

So what are the Arkham uniforms like? For all three of our lovely dork squad? (Arkham timeline ask B) )

They're most based on the inmates outfits in the TellTale Batman series but, something I decided to do for my designs is that the staff and inmates have their logo on different sides. Inmates, over their heart, and staff, the opposite.

Ed just gets the regular fit, he can't cause physical trouble.

Jo started with the regular fit, but he caused a pretty bad fight and left a lot injured, so now he's in a glorified body bag full body straight jacket.

Jervis also started with the regular fit, but he protected Dormouse (Ed) from other inmates, so he got put in a straight jacket.

Hiii! I have a question:

I started a Batman AU a few months ago so I posted drawings of some characters in the AU (I still didnt get to the main story since I wanna show the characters first) but its not getting the amount of interest that I thought it would (its really small).

Any ideas on what should I do?

I think it's more important to focus on what you want to do and not worry about growth. Just draw what you want and post what you want. Show people why it's important to you and be passionate about your projects. People will come to you. They will see how much you love what you are doing and will share an interest with the media. You are the only one with your ideas and others are interested in new ideas. So in short, do it for you and growth will be a byproduct.

Although, I will say interacting with others is a big help and very fun. Connections are a pretty big part of the artist industry anyway and still apply on a small scale. Get to know people and interact with others' posts, they will likely return the favor. Having friends and mutuals creates a feedback loop. But again, do it because it's fun for you. I personally really enjoy interacting with others who also enjoy what I like. There are so many wonderful people I have gotten to know in this fandom whether we are close or not.

Be patient and try your best to forget about the numbers. Make your own fun little place to be and share. I guess it could be comparable to a school club? You make it to get to know others and to share and enjoy a common interest. However, in this case, it's more specific than a general subject. I think Tumblr is a place to interact with others. Even if your AU is small, you have the opportunity to make a cozy little community and just enjoy what you have made. It's more rewarding to share.

is the scarebeast vulnerable to regular animal parasites, e.g fleas/ticks? is its blood toxic to those animals ? does ed have to give him flea/tick baths and use a special comb ?

I don't imagine his blood would be lethal to parasites but I don't think they'd like the taste since it's so tainted. Although Ed would be extremely paranoid about things like that. He's very anxious about health and cleanliness. Ed is already so scared for Jonathan's health he'd have to make sure everything was taken care of.

Though Jonathan can't fully comprehend what's going on he can understand what Ed is feeling. Before Jo was Scarebeast, he'd help Ed with his OCD. He can't talk him through his obsessions and compulsions as Scarebeast so he tries his best to find other ways to comfort him.

Alternate Timelines

I'm finally buckling down to post our list of alternate timelines! As you guys know, our au focuses on a better ending for the residents of Gotham, but that doesn't mean that Fluffy and I haven't considered many other possible outcomes.

As a known example, Jo becoming Scarebeast is an alternate timeline.

To make this a bit easier, the alternate timelines are a bit like a tree branching out from the main timeline. So some alternate timelines have more branches.

I'll be showing the related tags and a brief explanation of each here, so feel free to send in asks about any of them!

#lazarus!scarecrow - (branch of scarecrow!dies) instead of just wanting revenge, Riddler also revives Scarecrow through the Lazarus pit

#scarebeast - Penguin takes Scarecrow's fear toxin and Kurk's serum to turn Scarecrow into a "Scarebeast" for himself

#villain!joker - the Joker is a villain like the other rogues instead of a vigilante with Batman (he's still silly), and overall, it's pretty lighthearted and cartoonish

#batsandriddles - Batman takes in Ed off the streets, so he works with him and the Joker

#harleybegood - (branch of villain!joker) Harley and Joker get to be girl-buddies

#detective!nigma - Ed gets to grow up with his grandma instead of his father, so he becomes a PI detective, antics ensue

#arkham! - nobody will go to Arkham normally, but this delves into the trauma of if they did

#best!timeline - although it's called the best timeline, it's not all fluff

#reverse!rogues - here, the roles are switched; where Batman and the Joker are the main antagonists, and the rogues are the ones who have to find a way to put a stop to their crimes

#juggerbat - when Bruce's parents were murdered, he was also shot, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He's more ruthless and pessimistic with a tank of a batsuit

#medieval! - our au set in fantasy medieval times, mythical creatures, magic, and all

#vampire! - we've mostly focused on our favorite characters, but let's just say it's in the 1800-1900s and some of them are vampires and (at least one) is a werewolf

#furries! - the version where they're furries. Not much changes, just some more animalistic traits/scenarios

#wormnora - Nora Fries is a worm (a sentient worm on a string to be exact) that's all

#iceandriddles - instead of teaming up with Scarecrow, the Riddler teams up with Mr. Freeze
