STARDEW VALLEY: THE CAVE FARM

A homework for a game designer class, we were supposed to plan a new level into our favorite game!

Walkthrough and notes:

ENTRANCE

This is inside of the little cave on your farm. There are three hollow places in wall, shaped for Ruby, Emerald and Aquamarine. Find those and place them in to open secret passage...

INNER CAVE

Its very dark here, but you can see eerie green glow of slowly rippening Glowberries in bushes. To the west, path is blocked by violet crystals, north path is blocked as well. To the east stands a strange statue of a dwarf. "His hands hold shrunk, rotten fruit".

While the Glowberries in here arent ripe yet, a glowing waterfall reveals a fully bush with a berry ready for harvest.

Once you place the glowing fruit into the statues hands, it comes to life.

This dwarf has been cursed by the pesky witch! He says he needs to find his wife, and runs to the west, revealing path in crystals and also clearing way to the east.

CAVE FARM

This is a place where you can grow mushroom crops, cave carrots and moss for fiber. The pink crystal house is not build yet.

DWARF HOME

In this area full of large crystals, you find another dwarf statue. Using another Glowberry, you bring to life dwarf lady.

The reunited dwarf pair stay here witjin their crystalline home. They introduce themselves as crystalsmiths - the husband works as an undeground "carpenter", may build you an underground geode house and even a ladder leading to your farm house.

The wife is a trader and may trade you mushroom spores, used as seeds. They will grow only underground.

You absolutely can tell the pair about Stardew mine dwarf - turns out they are his long lost parents! While the witch cursed them, she also saved them from attack of shadow people.

The dwarves mention also there is a benevolent dragon somewhere underground.

STAIRCASE AND DUNGEONS

The newly opened room on north shows shallow hole in the middle, and three currently dry paths for water, leading into three hallways.

Each hallway leads into a string of ten dungeon rooms. Red, green and blue dungeons have specific color pallette themes, stone, ores and gem themed enemies. They are darkened, lit by many Glowberry bushes. At the end of each dungeon lies tiny room with strange bush like stone in it - activate it with Glowberry to reveal its true form as a large red/ green/blue blossom, which also opens a water spring. You can hop into the water to activate WHEEEE animation while going down a waterslide, spitting you back in Staircase room and adding some water into the shallow hole.

Once all three dungeons are beaten, the hole fills with water coming from the three streams, screen shakes and floor reveals a staircase!

AXOLOTL CAVE

The staircase leads to underground lake, out of which opens a large grey mouth. Throw a nearby growing final Glowbery to revive a large axolotl - he is the kind king of the cave system, and dwarves confuse him for dragon.

As a reward for saving his kingdom, he rewards you with crystal seedlings - you can later trade for more at Dwarf home.

The crystal trees work like fruit trees, but they frow gems! They are the only plant from the caves that you can plant on surface, but there they bear "fruit" only during winter.

I am looking respectfully at your Hollow Ground 😳 What do u think Damien's relationship with him is gonna be? 💞💖

I've been breaking HG's nose for the majority of my playthroughs for the hell of it. But I loved going deep into his mind and go fishing for a moray so I'm thinking to have that over in my save state.

Damien will definitely be curious about what happened and wouldn't be able to keep a mystery like that unsolved. If HG still seeks Damien's partnership in Book 3 (which I hope he still does), Damien would be inclined to agree in order to take advantage of HG's resources, investigate their connection, and maybe do a bit of spying for our local glorified power bank (he did promise to help after all).

What might bite him in the ass, however, is whether HG would pursue a more familial relationship with Damien...

He'd be a fool not to take advantage of their sort-of blood connection to further infiltrate HG's ranks. Getting buddy-buddy with HG might make him feel like he's wearing a dead person's skin and living their life, but he's always been good at playing roles (plus it's HG, so no harm, no foul when Damien ends up betraying him). The problem is if Damien would end up actually liking the role he's playing.

He had to act human to fulfill his missions and liked it a bit too much that he escaped The Farm. He didn't really trust the previous Rangers and Ortega all those years ago, yet he became comfortable playing hero, and now the loss of what he once had still hunts him. He swore never to make contact to the Rangers again but is now playing the role of a disillusioned retiree a bit too well and is being dangerously comfortable in their headquarters. He also planned to keep his relationship with Dr. Mortum purely transactional, yet now Jane and the good doctor are literal besties and drinking buddies.

If Hollow Ground wanted Damien to play the role of his brother and fall into the trap of finding a connection that makes him feel human, how would this be any different?

Hi Young Sheldon,

I think Samantha would play Stardew. She would love the characters, the world, and the cozy atmosphere therein. I think she would probably avoid going down into the caves as much as she could, though. She's not a fighter >_<;

Michael would probably play with her often, too.

I think that Jess and Penny though, Michael's mothers, would love to play such a game together. Probably more than Michael himself would play it.

I also think that if you put the game in front of Maggie, she would get so immersed in it you'd probably have to physically pull her away from the game to get her to stop.

Mushroom Cave vs Fruit Bat Cave

I've rewritten this post like four seperate times to the point i thought I had already posted it BUT I have not! Lucky ducky me!

I have been curious about which cave is technically better, especially since I see a lot of people are deadset on it being the fruit bat cave when I am a mushroom cave defender, so I am going to compare the two here!

What is the cave that you normally pick when you start a new save?

Mushroom Cave

Pros:

Six boxes + A dehydrator

Spawns mushrooms even if theyre out of season

Spawns Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, Purple Mushroom, Chanterelle and Morel

Helpful for Fall Foraging Bundle, Dye Bundle, Exotic Foraging Bundle, and Field Research Bundle

Helpful for crafting Life Elixir and Fall Seeds (and in turn, tea saplings)

Helpful for cooking Fried Mushroom, Tom Kha Soup, and Stir Fry

Purple Mushroom is a loved gift for the Wizard

Can make dehydrated mushrooms

Isn't obsolete after growing fruit trees

For sure produces every other day

You can customize your cave without risk of it

Helpful for three quests, all three reoccuring

Helpful for 9 unique fishpond quests, 11 total, which are as follows:

Common Mushroom: 2-3 from Bullhead, Largemouth Bass, Midnight Carp or Woodskip

Red Mushroom: 2-3 from Catfish, Spookfish or Woodskip

Purple Mushroom: 2-3 from Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Spook Fish, or Super Cucumber

Cons:

Mushrooms are always normal quality, even with Botanist Profession

Harvesting Mushrooms doesn't award any foraging XP

Other Areas Mushrooms Can Spawn:

Common Mushroom: Fall Season, Fall Seeds, Secret Woods in Spring and Fall, and Tapping a Mushroom Tree

Red Mushroom: The Mines, Secret Woods in Summer and Fall, and Tapping a Mushroom Tree

Chanterelle: Secret Woods in Fall

Fruit Bat Cave

Pros:

Can spawn up to 50 fruit.

Spawns fruit even if they're out of season

Spawns Cherrys, Pomegranate, Peach, Apple, Orange, Spice Berry, Apricot, Wild Plum, Blackberry, and Salmonberry

Helpful for Artisan Bundle, Enchanter's Bundle, Fodder Bundle, Summer Foraging Bundle, and Fall Foraging Bundle

Helpful for crafting Summer Seeds and Fall Seeds

Helpful for cooking Cranberry Candy, Fruit Salad, Plum Pudding and Blackberry Cobbler

Provides Loved Gifts for Elliott (Pomegranate), Robin (Peach), and Gus (Orange)

Can make wine, jelly, and dried fruits

Fruit can be of any quality

You benefit from the botanist profession and the gatherer profession

You earn foraging XP

Helpful for 4 quests (3 reocurring)

Cons:

Cannot customize cave as that reduces the amount of tiles where the fruit can spawn, even if it is crafted flooring.

After growing fruit trees it becomes, essentially, obsolete. Especially with the green house.

Not collecting fruit reduces the amount of fruit that can spawn overnight. For example if you have no fruit there is a 48% chance of NO new fruit spawning, but if you have ten fruit in it that chance raises to 54%

Not used in any fish pond quests

No guarentee that fruit will spawn overnight.

Other Areas Fruit Can Spawn:

Cherry: Cherry Tree in Spring (year round in greenhouse)

Apricot: Apricot Tree in Spring (year round in greenhouse)

Peach: Peach Tree in Summer (year round in greenhouse)

Orange: Orange Tree in Summer (year round in greenhouse)

Pomegranate: Pomegranate Tree in Fall (year round in greenhouse)

Apple: Apple Tree in Fall (year round in greenhouse)

Salmonberry: Bushes throughout the valley on days 15-18 in Spring.

Blackberry: Bushes throughout the valley on days 8-11 in Fall, Fall Seeds (growin in fall or year round if planted in Greenhouse)

Spice Berry: Foraging in Summer, Summer Seeds (grown in summer or year round if planted in Greenhouse)

i've been getting a lot of fomo of seeing all my friends and mutuals playing baldurs gate 3 and was tempted to buy it. then seeing you drawing fanart and seeing it on my dash made me look inside myself and acknowledge my true self and desires... so i bought pioneers of olive town. its in the mail, but im excited for it to arrive. :)

YEAH ITS SUPER CUTE IMO !!! I don't even have a console/PC capable of BG3 so I totally get the thought of 'oh im missing out' but I really enjoy the relaxing farming games... I'm super flattered to hear my love of these games influences people to try em out - that my love shows enough to make people curious. Thank you anon for sending this (I immediately screamed at three people on discord after seeing this bc holy moly truly high honors here).
