Life on the Move: The Joy of Travelling Beyond the Tourist Trail
Play this song while you read this post.
Tumblr media
Hi everyone. Been awhile.
A lot of people talk about wanting to travel. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to explore all that the world has to offer? I certainly do! But travel means different things to everyone, and there’s no right or wrong way to define it. My version might just be a little different from yours.
Lately, I’ve been swamped with work. I’m actually managing 80 people, with 20 reps in each class every day, while interviewing candidates for the next wave of classes. Add in my back-and-forth trips between Manila and Quezon twice a week, and you’ve got a recipe for a sleep-deprived hustle. Yet, planning my upcoming travels has become my lifeline—a much-needed escape and something I genuinely love to do, alongside earning and saving.
I’ve just booked three international flights in the next five months and started sorting out work permit, visa, and finances to kick off my new life in a country I’ve chosen to settle in for good. It’s a lot to handle, and of course, I want to cherish my remaining time here in the Philippines with the people I love and doing the things I enjoy—like traveling.
When I say “traveling,” I’m talking about going outside the country. I’m not a huge fan of local trips; those feel ordinary since my family often visits relatives in Davao and Cebu. It’s easy and routine, and I crave a bit more adventure.
As I plan my itinerary, I find myself pondering where to go and what to see. Booking those three international flights in one day was fueled by my desire for peace and serenity. I want to clear my mind of everything that weighs me down and rediscover genuine happiness. That’s why I’m looking for places that are quiet and enchanting, where I can see things I’d never encounter in my everyday life. I want to fly and create memories that will leave a lasting impression on my heart.
I want to craft a life of travel.
Tumblr media
When I say I want to travel, I’m not talking about hitting every tourist trap or buying a tacky souvenir t-shirt. I don’t want to just stroll down main streets or eat at every popular restaurant that pops up on Google. I’m not interested in staying at fancy resorts or following local tour guides around. I’m here for something deeper.
What I really want is to get lost—not in a “my GPS led me astray” kind of way, but in a beautiful, wandering sense. I want to soak in my surroundings, uncover hidden treasures unique to each place, and discover cozy coffee shops and quaint bookstores. I want to trek to old landmarks in the mountains and embrace as many new experiences as I can.
I envision packing a backpack with just the essentials, sleeping in tents, hostels, or even my car as I roam through different towns in various countries. I want to crash in places that few people have ever heard of. My goal is to turn my dreams into reality, to experience a life stripped down to simplicity, free from societal pressures and the weight of unnecessary stuff.
I yearn to meet people who are different from me yet somehow relatable. I want to dive into their cultures and understand their ways of life. Learning about their history and immersing myself in new languages excites me. I hope to find lifelong friends across the globe.
I want to be in constant awe of this planet and everything it offers. I want to witness sights I never thought possible and try experiences that have only lived in my dreams. My curiosity should grow stronger with every adventure. I want to absorb every skyline and relish the solitude of unfamiliar places.
When I return home, I don’t want to feel complete; I want to feel like I’ve left pieces of myself scattered around the world. I want to look beyond what’s in front of me and grasp the complexities of the world we inhabit. I want to satisfy my wanderlust, knowing that even if I somehow dislike the traveling life, I can always come back home.
Tumblr media
But until I’m out there, exploring and fulfilling this desire inside me, I won’t be satisfied.
When I say I want to travel, I mean I want to experience everything. Because in the end, experiences are far more valuable than anything money can buy.
So, here’s to the adventures that await! Life is too short to stay in one place. Let’s pack our bags, hit the road, and discover the magic out there!

“A Childhood Filled with Wonder”
As I look back at my early years here in Lapu-Lapu City, I’ll always remember every part of my childhood that brought joy and care and was filled with bundles of love. I am glad my family has accepted and supported me since the day I was born, allowing me to freely express myself without fear or hesitation. As a child, I discovered my love for dancing and doing recreational activities. The rhythm of the music would ignite a fire within me, and I would lose myself in the joy of movement. Whether it was dancing in my living room or participating in family gatherings, I found a place and happiness in the art of dance. My home provided the perfect backdrop for my childhood adventures. Cebu provided its beautiful beaches and vibrant parks where I would run, jump, and play until my heart was content.
I remember the day when my sister-in-law brought me to the market to buy some ingredients, but suddenly I saw a bunch of toys around the place and found a small doll. I really wanted it because it was so cute, and I wanted to play with it. Without a second thought, I turned to my sister and pleaded for her to buy it for me. In that moment, I didn't care about the opinions of others or how they might perceive me. All I wanted was to hold that precious doll and play with it. Little did I know that this innocent desire would reveal a part of me that would shape my journey.
Years later, I mustered the courage to ask my sisters about that incident, curious to know how they felt when I proudly carried that doll home. Their response was filled with surprise and amusement. They couldn't believe their eyes, seeing their little sibling embrace their own unique sense of self unapologetically. It was a moment that not only revealed my true nature but also deepened the bond between us, as they embraced and celebrated my authenticity.
As a kid, I really loved going outside and traveling around the city, going to beaches, and playing with the sand with the other children. I am an imaginative kid who loves to do something, a kid who wants to explore and experience. I really love riding horses and skating on the ice rink. The first day I tried skating, it was really hard for me and I stumbled every minute, but I had the courage to learn it so I wouldn't stumble again. The feeling of freedom as I rode on cute horses or glided across the ice was exhilarating. I would spend hours building sandcastles with other children, laughing and chasing each other along the shore. As I grew up and saw my nephews and nieces doing what I loved, I felt nostalgic. Those carefree moments taught me the importance of embracing the present and finding happiness in the simplest of pleasures.
In my teenage days, socializing and fitting in with other children were quite challenging for me. I remember feeling a bit lost and unsure of where I belonged. Making new friends seemed like an uphill battle, but as luck would have it, I stumbled upon some amazing individuals who turned out to be amazing friends. It all happened accidentally, as if the universe had a hand in bringing us together. We would explore the city, try new activities, and support each other through the ups and downs of teenage life. These friendships became the anchor that helped me navigate the challenges of adolescence.
When I was 15, I joined a church ministry, and it changed my life. Being a part of a church ministry offers a unique opportunity for personal growth, spiritual development, and connecting with a community of like-minded individuals. It's a place where we can learn, serve, and find support in our faith journey.
Besides, that teenage year was a grateful memory. I discovered new hobbies and a new favorite movie, whether it was painting, playing an instrument, or even joining a sports team. Each new hobby allowed me to express myself and tap into my creativity. Through these experiences, I learned the importance of seeking out what truly brings me happiness and fulfillment. It taught me to embrace my individuality and to never be afraid of exploring new interests. Self-discovery is a beautiful journey, and my teenage years were instrumental in shaping who I am today. My favorite music was my soundtrack in my teenage years, and it was my best friend. Discovering music is my favorite thing to do. I got to discover new genres and music. Watching movies is also my favorite hobby, and I’ve always loved to see new plots. It inspired me to film movies and create different stories, which brought joy to my life.
As I turn 18, I’ve matured and realized that life is not always perfect. We come to understand that achieving our goals and dreams requires hard work, dedication, and perseverance. It's no longer about waiting for things to magically fall into place, but rather taking initiative and actively pursuing what we want. This newfound maturity brings with it a sense of responsibility and independence. We start to make our own decisions and face the consequences of those choices. It can be both exciting and daunting, but it's all part of the journey of growing up. It made me become independent and strong when choosing a path that we wanted, growing up taught us to be mature and grow stronger. It will help us develop new learning and leadership skills. Speaking of leadership, I really wanted to the person who can help and serve other people and be a good influence. So that's why I joined the SSG organization so that I could learn more about leadership skills. It's not all about doing it for yourself, but doing it for our community. Joining this organization taught us to be independent, both physically and emotionally.
So every day, I hope God will give us more blessings and provide us with bundles of love. I am very grateful because God has given us more lives to live. I am praying for the safety of my family and friends.

I am going to the philippines for about a month is there any places you would recommend. For the first two weeks we'll be based in manilla and then we might visit some other places in the country.
hi! sorry for answering this late. I'd like to say that Metro Manila is certainly not on the list of places I would recommend for tourists 😅 I love this city, it’s my birthplace and hometown, but I personally think the Philippines is best experienced outside of the capital.
still, since you say you're staying here for two weeks, these are the places around the metro that you can visit:
If you’re into art and museums:
National Museum of Fine Arts / National Museum of Natural History - they're close by each other so it’s possible to visit in one day
Ayala Museum - love their exhibits and dioramas
Pinto Art Museum - best for contemporary art; 1-2hrs from Manila depending on traffic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re into culture and history:
Binondo Chinatown - oldest Chinatown in the world. pretty cool melting pot of chinese, filipino and western cultures. cheap food.
Intramuros – if you want a taste of the country during our Spanish colony era (NOTE: try to look for tours of Binondo and Intramuros so you’ll get the full experience and context into our history)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're into the nightlife
Poblacion, Makati
BGC
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re into shopping
Glorietta
Greenbelt
Mall of Asia
SM Aura
Greenhills
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
outside of Metro Manila, there's a loooot (and I mean, A LOT) of places to visit because we literally have 7,000+ islands lol. these are, I would say, a few of the easier ones for tourists to go to and enjoy:
Palawan – crystal clear waters, hidden lagoons, seafood. the landscape views here are BREATHTAKING, I swear you won’t regret it. go to either Coron or El Nido if you do choose to visit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Siargao – lovely, laidback island globally known for surfing. the people and vibe here are perfect for those who would like to take a step back from the daily grind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bohol – white beaches, adventurous activities, natural wonders. you can find the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier (also known as the world’s second smallest primates) Sanctuary here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cebu – this province is huge so there’s lots of things (diving, whale shark watching, canyoneering: you name it) and islands to go to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Boracay - okay, so this is perhaps the most popular beach destination here, so it's definitely more expensive than other places. the upside is it's also more developed and tourist-friendly (the nightlife on the island is great!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there are pristine beaches and magnificent views here almost everywhere you go, and all the places I listed above are ripe with those. the Philippines is beautiful, and I hope you're able to discover even a portion of that beauty during your stay. enjoy your trip here!

FLASH REPORT: American YouTuber 'IShowSpeed' arrives in the Philippines, causes Fan Frenzy for meet-and-greet in BGC [#TeleRadyoSerbisyoEXCLUSIVE]
Tumblr media
(Written by Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong / Freelanced News Writer, Online Media Reporter and News Presenter of OneNETnews)
TAGUIG, NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION -- The American variety and veteran YouTube sensation 'Mr. Darren Jason Watkins Jr.', finally set foot in the country today, part of his highly anticipated Southeast Asia tour. This arrival of the 19 y/o Ohio state native, straight from the United States of America (U.S.A.), created frenzy among his Filipino fanbase, which led to huge masses of crowds and traffic jams across Metro Manila.
Indeed, his Philippine adventure started off with a bang. He played at a local basketball court in 'Brgy. 39, Zone 3, District 1' in 'Tondo, Metro Manila, National Capital Region'. The place was thronged with fans as the eagerness got the better of everyone to get a glimpse of the male YouTube star. It set the tone for a day that became truly frenzy-filled and filled with fervor.
Before going to the heart of the city, IShowSpeed made a quick detour to a local Chowking branch on Bustos Street, Sta. Cruz, this said city and province. The fast-food stop served as an emergency impromptu meet-and-greet location, where he was sat and hydrate himself in plain cold water, as eager fans were gathered outside to catch a glimpse of their online male YouTuber idol. He followed up his interest in Filipino culture by riding on top of a Kalesa, a horse-drawn transportation contraption, waving a Philippine flag to the delight of all that watched, helping spur his growing entourage on in excitement.
The joyride to BGC turned out to be a spectacle in its own right, as the male YouTube star replaced Kalesa with a motorbike, knowingly called as 'habal-habal'. The ride through busy Manila attracted even more attention; traffic came to a halt with fans trying to stay alongside their idol.
The chaotic night concluded before 7:30pm at 5th Avenue, BGC, in a Mercedes-Benz showroom, where IShowSpeed found refuge amidst a sea of people. Outside the unforgettable local dealership at Cats Motors Incorporated (CMI), chaos was at nothing less than pandemonium. If this day wasn't exciting enough, IShowSpeed teasingly posted to the internet media, including 'TeleRadyo Serbisyo: Dumaguete' and 'OneNETnews' that he would be meeting the Boxing legend and former senator "Manny Dapidran 'PacMan' Pacquiao", scheduled for tomorrow on Thursday (September 12th, 2024 -- Manila local time) when social media would once again go ablaze in the star-studded encounter.
In LIVE chats throughout the night, rumors are rife that the IShowSpeed Philippine Tour may well extend to the Visayas region on Day 2, including Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Siquijor. For now, unfortunately much however, Mindanao appears to be out of its itinerary.
IShowSpeed's arrival most certainly has left an indelible mark within the Philippines, and his livestream drew in more than 300,000 viewers from around the world, over half from the Philippines with 56% online audience share in this video sharing platform. And as this male YouTube star still goes on a rampage in this South East Asian adventure, one thing is for sure: IShowSpeed fever has finally swept the nation of the Philippines, and it isn't going away anytime soon.
This ongoing tour to South East Asia would be continued across the continent, first stopping in Thailand and later adding probably with the likes of Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia -- all for this month of September 2024.

Beat the Heat and Stay Cool
Welcome aboard to my travel and educational blog, Journey to the Sky. I’m Arra a student of Lapulapu-Cebu International College writing about my visits and opinions of places near and far.
So now I know we are all experiencing the heatness of the sun because it’s summer time. Therefore I’d love to share to you my favorites beaches and cold spring.
The first picture is at Northern part of Cebu called Durano Eco Adventure Park, well that’s literally adventure because before you can swim at their 7 cold pools you have to ride rough roads in the mountain and then climb at their 200+ stairs. This place is heaven on earth surrounded by greens a healthy place indeed everyone could ask for during heat season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second and third picture is a small coral islet off the coast of Bogo it is a marine protected area that means people cannot go fishing or leave waste there. However despite it’s beautiful scenery this islet has a tragic story. According to local this was a ship before and was cursed. The ship’s captain names Basilio insulted the local chieftain and made him angry so he turns the ship of basilio into a floating rock in the sea. However despite it’s tragic story people still go there and love the beautiful and crystal clear water. This place is perfect for beating the heat!
Tumblr media
The last picture is also a cold spring that doesn’t have that much story but swimming with the view of the greeny mountain is perfect in the eyes and it’s very relaxing. Indeed can beat the summer heat!
And that’s it travellers! Thankyou for reading my blog we have a lot more to share! Always remember to be safe under the sun wear your sunscreen! Because Sunscreen is life
