Can MC dislike/hate their... profession and their life?

You'll have the option of picking whether or not MC really wants to be the ruler or even likes the idea (so yes, they can hate being monarch).

In terms of their life, MC has it pretty good - they were the heir, after all, so they've got plenty of cash, everyone they interact with loves them (or at least treats them with deference), and they basically get whatever material thing they want. So I don't think MC can really hate their life per say. You'll definitely be able to make an MC that's sick of being stuck on palace grounds or wishes they could have spent more time with their father though!

OOOoo this sounds interesting!! What parts of the MC personality are set? I don't usually play IFs with set or semi sets personalities at all, but I think I'd 100% be willing to give this a gander. I love anything even somewhat similar to The Hunger Games

first off!! thank you for giving my IF a chance!!! i understand the freedom of all chosen traits. still, with this IF, it just wasn't possible since the plot is heavily impacted and only continues due to flaws MC has... and if i gave a completely customizable MC, there'd either be tons of variables for flaws (and i am VERY new to coding) or the plot would feel awkward. maybe both.

by semi-set, i don't mean you won't get the basic choices of kind/rude and things of that sort-- just that some downfalls to MC have been put in place.

under the cut due to slight spoilers

the flaws that MC does have is possessiveness. not in a romanticized or obsessive way, and it's very subtle in most routes. it could come off as jealousy if you squint. definitely not the main point and doesn't show up a lot. (their possessiveness doesn't mean that they want their RO all to themselves. its not like that.)

another is that their actions seem slightly... selfish... and do things that contribute only to them and finding their brother-- they're loyal to a fault to Finn, pretty much.

one of the biggest ones is that they are manipulative. and they lie. they don't manipulate the main cast, but they do lie to them... a lot.

(and there might be choices to add to this list by the player, but that is 100% not set in stone)

this story is messy. the characters, not just the MC, are messy. they all have problems that they need to solve within themselves. this story is set in a very cutthroat and dangerous world, so you can imagine what living in these kinds of environments would do to them.

feel free to ask about any and all of these!! i also want to note that none of these are healthy things to have-- that is why they're called flaws-- and it isn't treated like that. MC is well aware of this.

If MC is a nekomata or kitsune, is their true form that of a fox/cat? I'd kinda like to imagine MC going into cat form on a nice sunny day to lay in the sun or curling up in a box because they can't do that comfortably in humanoid form (assuming they're mostly in humanoid form). They might be a ruthless heir but they're still liquid cat.

The true form of the MC, whether they are a nekomata or kitsune, can vary and is specific to each individual. It is not necessarily limited to being completely animal-like. The nature of their true form depends on the MC. For some MCs, their true form may include a fox or cat head with a humanoid body adorned with fur, while others might possess more human-like features but with slitted eyes, animal ears, and a tail.

While their fox/cat form may be larger and more powerful than a regular cat or fox, it is not their sole true form. Instead, it is a significant aspect of their identity and a part of who they are. Similar to how a werewolf's wolf form is not their true form but an integral part of their being.

I just realized there's a non-zero percent chance that MC has never knowingly interreacted with someone that doesn't blame them for their mother's death before coming to Camelot. I could see the ROs having to gently explain to them that no, we don't blame you for that, and that being blamed for such a thing isn't normal.

There will definitely be opportunities (optional) to play a more guilty/insecure route!

Ever since the persona convo last month, I've had it stuck in my head what major arcana/tarot card the characters would be and:

fun lore question but in this universe, do merpeople cry normal tears or do they cry pearls? (i’ve seen it done in fiction before so I was wondering) and will we get luring to drown action? cause some make their merpeople drown but some straight up make them like water vampires (aka eating victims if I wasnt clear)? 🧐

i.. never thought the pearl crying?? automatically in this world, merpeople are born with a connection to sea creatures- which they have to cultivate to be able to telepathically understand each other. you'll see some merpeople living with a pod of dolphins or a group of killer whales if the bond between them is strong enough! and i have it written down somewhere that merpeople commonly live in huge oversized oysters (like MC) which do create pearls... i'd have to think about it!! but YES, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE SOME LURING TO DROWN ACTION. merpeople are born with "powers" but for them to actually work, they need to cultivate and teach themselves and whatnot. right now i have the option of tide manipulation and animal handling down for MC. the other 2 powers, sonic scream and siren song (the luring) aren't there at birth. it's a power that only sirens have, and sirens aren't born- they're created. so there'll be two different paths where MC can either give in to the siren side that's now being formed or resist it and continue. but when humans are lured into oceans, it's never for eating (though, some will consume) it's mostly for looting ships for crafting items or saving the captured :).

The children run around with no finish line or goal as they laugh merrily without a care. A common everyday scene and you were the one left forgotten in the hidden sight behind the border of the forest.

You really want to go to that scene that you replayed a thousand times.

You clutch the barks of the oak tree with your gloved hands. Your eyes shine in a longing trance. If you just stepped in the line that was supposed to divide you and them.

Vie warned you not to get closer to the border, but you can't help but long to play, run, chase, and just laugh so hard that you can hardly remember like the older children in the village.

Your thoughts inserted yourself in their scene, you've named every child that you have seen, and maybe...maybe one day you could finally know their names and not the names you have made for them.

Maybe that day is today if you could just---

"MC!"

You look behind you see a heaving blushing-blonde whose hair's decorated with a wild array of stray leaves and snapped twigs. Her eyes are anxious and afraid.

"Get back here." Her voice was stern and angry that you can't help but shiver from the tone. You complied.

"I told you so many times that you are not near the border!"

"Why not?! I won't hurt anyone, I'll promise to be extra careful! I just wanna play with them!"

"MC it doesn't matter if you are careful. Do you think the villagers will let you go near them just because you're being extra careful? Trust me it's better you stay here on our side. We don't bother them and they won't bother us."

"Why? Why do we have to stay on this side!" Your eyes bore into her brown ones, challenging and heartbreaking longing. "I didn't do anything wrong!"

"It doesn't matter if you've done nothing wrong, you can't decide how they will think of you!"

"I'm just a child! I have done nothing against them for us to be outcasted in this stupid place!" The tears that you were holding back finally fell down your cheeks like a waterfall. You look at your hands with contempt, the hands that cna only hurt and nothing else. "I never chose to be this way! I'm a good kid, I did not hurt anyone!"

"Then why don't you explain this! Just because you don't want hurt someone doesn't mean you are not going to!" Vie snaps, you look to her, shocked, your tears well up into huge hot droplets, you were too shaken to make a sound.

Then woman with rose-gold hair soon realizes what she had said, she walks closer, her eyes full of regret and sorrow but you stepped away. "MC—I...You have done nothing wrong, you are a really good child. I'm sorry."

"Fear makes people do bad things. I can't protect you from Fear...I'm only one woman." She exhales a heavy sigh. "You think that they will accept you when they can't even accept me?"

"We could leave to somewhere where you don't have to be afraid anymore, Vie." You suggest as you take a step closer, you then take a leaf nearby, using your gloves it didn't turn to ash. You brush it against her skin as if it were your touch and she smiles at this.

"If I could I would have left with you but...this is the only place you could be safe. This forest is the only sanctuary for someone as special as you."

You only have Vie, and she only has you.

Fear shakes people's hearts, turning them into monsters and cowards. You can't seek others because even good people's hearts can become rotten because humanity is fickle like that.
