Your recent post reminded me of what has been bothering me for a while about the portrayal of the Kimchay dynamic in the fandom. I love reading fic about these two, but in most fics nowadays I cannot even recognize the characters I came to know and love when I watched the show. It’s like they bear the name of Kim and Chay but act nothing like them😅 People are of course allowed to write characters any way they want (after all, it’s not that serious, fandom is supposed to be fun:D), but I think this is the first time I’m in a fandom where the fanon characterization has overthrown the canon characterization so completely. The prevalence of submissive!Kim and Dom!Chay just throws me off, when the characters are nothing like that in the show (actually it’s quite the opposite lol). When the show aired and until around mid-2023 the majority of fic etc. portrayed Kimchay pretty accurately with only the odd mischaracterizatiok here and there, but after that? It’s like the fandom collectively decided to throw canon out the window XD.

These days I’m just living by the ”don’t like,don’t read” philosophy, which unfortunately means I have to clock out of 80% of Kimchay fic lol. I see something like ”Kim whimpered” and am like ”nope, he would not” and then yeet myself out:D

Meh. The idea of fanon characterization overthrowing canon though isn’t unique to the KPTS fandom, yknow? I feel like most fandoms face that inevitability as we get further away from the date of original release. Having said that however, I would actually disagree with you, nonnie. XD Politely, of course!

It’s just that…I’m not necessarily sure fanon characterization has overthrown canon completely, or if it’s more along the lines that those who like the fanon characterization just tend to be a lot louder, especially on this site. It’s harder to discern people’s true opinions on here, not necessarily for lack of communication, but more along the lines of iffy communication due to knee-jerk reactions, imo. And again, that’s not just the KPTS / Kimchay fandom in general, I feel like that’s how it is for most fandoms that have some community over here that’s still alive and kicking.

In any fandom, there will always be people who take certain opinions a lot more personally over others due to their own emotional attachments over the fictional characters in question, and that just inevitably makes communication (as in, actual discussion and engagement)…not worth it. At least, not to me, haha!

Fandom is supposed to be fun, but let's be real nonnie, for a lot of people, it's more than just fun: for a lot of us, it's an escape from our day-to-day lives, a place to engage freely in a piece of media that we otherwise wouldn't have in RL.

Furthermore, canon vs fanon in terms of what that means to an English-speaking majority fandom community and as it relates to a non-western piece of media is…honestly, all kinds of landmines to talk about, if you know what I mean. A lot (not all, of course, but a significant chunk of them) of fanon specific to KPTS and Kimchay are due to ignorance of the cultural context, as well as certain ideas gaining traction, because of the western lens it’s viewed through.

Not to mention, the cringe habit of mixing up actors and their characters, but that’s a different conversation all together.  

At the end of the day, I say be the change you want to be, nonnie~ If you don’t like fanon, say it loud and proud! I’m ngl, I certainly don’t!

All opinions in regards to any and all fictional characters ought to exist equally on this hellsite, and that should be the end of it! :3

tidbits

mateo is the second oldest of five siblings ( older sister, two younger brothers, and youngest is a sister as well — his parents really wanted another daughter ).

didn’t start off rich, but they found luck in the restaurant business and now they own at least 10 different restaurants across the country.

grew up in the hilton’s but moved to brazil around 19 to start his training. he’s been back and forth ever since then.

got into fighting pretty much right out of high school and didn’t bother with college. nickname is “havoc” bc his coaches thought it was funny that it was similar to his last name kovac, and bc once he sees an opening, he creates havoc with his swings.

currently in the lightweight division, with 6 fights under his belt, 4 wins and 2 losses, though last three have consecutively been wins.

doesn’t come off as very personable during interviews, and that’s because he’s not. he’s in the UFC for the love of fighting, not for the fame of it.

a cat daddy. has three cats, two rescues and one he took from his friend. it’s not odd for him to be spotted with a stray cat on his heels; he seems to attract them for whatever reason.

personality wise, he can come off as cold and aloof at most times, especially if he doesn’t like you ( he’s not one to hide his dislike ). with his friends, however, he can flip a switch almost completely and become a different person.

not really a party animal. tends to be the old man of the group, going home early and getting in his hours of sleep so he can wake up early and work out in the morning,

an excellent cook. tends to happen when you live alone and you need to shovel in a certain amount of calories. at one point, it becomes tiring eating just plain chicken for protein all the time.

wanted plots

the bad influence. mateo lives a very healthy life-style, due to his job. he has to keep his body in the best shape, so that means barely any drinking, absolutely no drugs, and no late nights out because of his strict schedule. well, he did come back to visit for a little vacation, and this friend did always have a way with their words. he finds himself being dragged out to places he doesn’t ever frequent against his better judgement. 

childhood friend. someone he grew up with and knows him better than he knows himself. someone his siblings consider as another addition to the family.

the ex. also happens to be his first love. their rls lasted a while, with him completely head over heels for her, before he finds out that he’s been cheated on, and he breaks it off with her. however, that never stopped her from calling him on her nights out drinking, and it always ended with him picking her up from the club. it’s been a while, but he can’t seem to shake the hold she has over him, though he knows he won’t ever call her his again.

the love interest. okay so i would kinda love for his love interest to be the best friend of his ex? it would be a slow burn type of situation, with discreet glances and secret touches here and there. there’s this immense tension but they don’t ever cross it ( they will down the line tho hehe ) bc they know that it’s wrong. would be slow burn type shi bc im a slvt for that stuff skdjfnsdf

maybe someone he likes to spar with for fun. he needs his exercise on vacation still.

Weird things that’ve happened this year (AKA within the last 2 months):

My roommate not only getting into One Direction but also actively dynamic-placing the Members of 1D and looking up fanfic with me to see how accurate we were to fans of the era (general consensus: we were Shocked at the amount of alpha Harry argued for the sake of omega Louis)

Actually, just in general my roommate jumping the gun and asking me how I’d dynamic-place anything in any media we’ve consumed together. It’s happened for You, Looney Tunes, Overwatch, that shitty new Velma Show, etc. It’s only a matter of time before she asks me my dynamic list for the Harley Quinn Show (which by the way, REGARDLESS of if she asks, I’ll be posting about after I watch the Valentines Day special)

My friend (not roommate related) and I having a 4 hour conversation about gender roles, and the Entire time we were talking I couldn’t stop thinking about how’d she’d be if she knew about/adopted miscecanis. It’s like. I can imagine Exactly what dynamic she’d want to be. She is the queen of no shame/judgement but I think I would rather die than confess I know anything about the lifestyle to someone who doesn’t already know of it

God, I want your optimism for KinnPorsche season 2... I wish it wasn't so hard to know that Jeff left BOC, even if I wish him the best. It hurt so much to see our Barcode cry like that..

Dearest nonnie, I have a rule in my life that I try to live by as best as I can and it's this: never talk/think in absolutes. You never know what the future may hold.

I'm still hopeful for a KinnPorsche Season 2 because the story itself is not over. If we never get one however, that's okay too, I personally like where the story ended and being a KimChay fan, I got my semi-canon happy ending. Lol All I really needed was some sort of confirmation that Chay would give Kim second chance; we got that, so I'm satisfied.

It doesn't take much to make me happy, alas~

But I also know that we were never going to get an announcement this year, considering as I've said before, there's so much emotional and financial baggage that went into making KinnPorsche, yknow? BOC needs to regroup for a bit and take on smaller projects, before they tackle KP again.

And there’s a few factors that I’m not sure people realize that needed to be considered before a season 2 could be announced:

The second part of the story has not been published yet. With Yok and Poi leaving DAEMI House (and all the baggage that came with these two, jfc), we don’t even know if they have a working script yet.

Money – this is a no brainer. KP—due to its production quality alone—was an expensive production to make. Mile and Pond will need to hunt down some good sponsors, and this takes time. It’s not that surprising that MileApo are doing all these brand events to get their names out there, both together and separately. The more their name are out there, the better chances they have of sponsors knocking on their doors.

Utilize the other actors – as much as it hurts to see Jeff and Build leave BOC, they needed to break up the pairings eventually anyway in order for the other boys to shine. The circumstances under how it happened were not the best (Build's situation being forced, basically), but it needed to happen either way. I won't be surprised if eventually, MileApo are broken up too. BOC wasn’t just made up of 6 actors, there were 16 of them originally. The other boys deserve a chance to shine too. Hell, maybe they can even pair up some of the boys; personally, it’d be interesting to see Barcode and Ta paired up for a drama, since they get along quite well in RL. I’m also very curious about the new recruits.

Future of the other actors - Build is a different story, but tbh, I’m not sure where the idea came from that Jeff is retiring from acting entirely? He’s mainly a musician who sometimes acts, not the other way around. He deserves to shine through his music, since it's obvious that it's his passion in life and he's wickedly talented. I’m sure if he’s interested enough in a project, he’d be willing to act again. KP was his breakthrough in getting his name out there, and Kim is very much a character he made his own; I can’t picture anyone else playing him, imo. We can only hope that if KP season 2 is ever a thing, he’ll be willing to take on the role again.

KP Copyright – at this point, we don’t know who holds the rights to KP. Is it possible BOC bought the rights from DAEMI House? Who knows, there’s a lot of logistics to muggle through, and this too takes time.

Again, I was never expecting KP Season 2 to be announced this year, but it doesn’t mean that there’s no hope for the BOC 2024 line up or BOC 2025 line up or whenever, yknow?

As for Jeff leaving and Barcode being heartbroken about it; don't let it get to you too much, they'll be fine. Jeff and Barcode are not KimChay, they'll talk it out (if they haven't already), and they're gonna be wonderful in Wuju Bakery, so let's support them on their current endeavors.

Finally nonnie, please disengage to the best of your ability. I follow Jeff and Barcode on twitter and ngl, I have them both muted right now. I also follow BOC, and they've been muted as well; I'm not checking the JeffBarcode, JeffSatur, or BarcodeTin hashtag either. A lot of the fans are still sad and that's valid and all, but it's not good for anyone's mental health when some people are posting BibleBuild and JeffBarcode images with Build and Jeff grayed out like they've died or something. Nor is it healthy that people keep posting the video of Barcode crying his heart out, jfc.

Honestly, it's disturbing and only creates an unhealthy feedback loop.

1. What is your favorite Disney Villain? 

Honestly I don’t watch Disney or many Disney movies but I guess from Marvel, I like the Gibborim from Runaways.

2. If you could see ONE wonder of the world, which one would it be? 

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

3. If you could live in ANY time period, which one would it be and why? 

Honestly I don’t know, but I second that I’d like to live in the future if it’s a better place. Honestly, I might go back so that I was a teenager in the 90s so I could grow up without the influence of technology. I don’t think access to the internet has improved our lives, I think the world was better off before the modern surveillance state.

4. What is your favorite animal? 

I love elephants. I think they have a really gentle nature and kind souls. 

5. Would you rather watch a new blockbuster or read a new novel?

Fanfiction has ruined me for both bc of lack of depth in content and few interesting gay characters.

6. Cat or Dog person? 

Cat person 100% I’ve seen dogs vomit and then eat their own vomit. And they also lick their genitals pretty much nonstop. I find it really difficult to deal w their energy too. 

Not to hate on dogs, (absolutely not, I know how crazy white people get about dogs) but cats are much cleaner, cuter, and I vibe with their energy more.

7. Have you ever played D&D? If so, what’s your favorite class? If not, would you be willing to try? 

I’ve tried a TTRPG but I don’t have a good enough grasp to have a favorite class. I did enjoy it!

8. If one of your OCs could be your RL best friend, who’d you choose and why?

I’d pick my warden, Aedan! He’s a kind and caring person and he fiercely protects the people he cares about. 

9. What’s your favorite candy? 

I like the grand majority of candies but I do like a good Hershey’s bar. I like that it’s somewhat bitter-tasting but smooth.

10. Coffee or Tea? 

I’m the biggest coffee and tea snob in the whole world. I don’t drink but in college, I was experimenting w drinking (not for me) and I was a beer snob too (if you drink beer, try Yuengling’s black and tan). 

I think I prefer coffee overall but I’ve recently been on a huge tea kick and I’ve been experimenting with different flavored teas. My current favorite is a mango black tea that I brew in a french press and leave in the fridge overnight, then I have it over ice the next day. 

I also love Jasmine tea, usually I’ll have the first flush hot and then cool the second and third to drink in the same manner. I’m trying to lose weight so the tea kick this has been stopping me from drinking or eating sugar because it tastes so good.

I’m Indian so I also love chai - put 4 cardamom pods, crushed, and 2 cloves and bring 2-4 cups of water to a boil, add a 1/4 cup of red label or other indian tea (meant to be boiled, not steeped). I add a dash of chinese five spice. Let infuse at a low rolling boil for 5 mins, then add milk to your taste and let it come to a boil again. It’s so mf good, but I’m on a diet soooo

I also love boba and if you haven’t had it before, you absolutely have to try it. I love thai tea boba and I think rose milk at most places tends to be quite good and has a light, crisp flavor.

I’m a big espresso fan, and I spent the first $50 i ever made on a refurbished De’Longhi espresso machine on ebay. I love cafe noisette made with a light Ethiopian roast and a healthy dose of sugar to boot, I drink it like a dessert. I’m partial to medium-to-darker drip roasts like a Kenyan or Sumatran brew and I drink it au lait. I like coffee that can stand up to cream or milk well but I hate burnt tasting coffee, thus sumatran >> french roast these days. I drink medium roasts with a light cream or milk.

1. Rosehip tea: Which book did you love when you were younger?

I read both Roots and Interview with a Vampire in Jr. High and they both had a profound effect on me, in vastly different ways obviously. So I’m not sure that I’d say I “loved” them but I remember them which is a big deal for me. I used to LOVE RL Stine and Christopher Pike books, though. I had to be at the library all the time to check new ones out cuz I’d blow through them so fast. 

4. Strawberry tea: Tell me about your first kiss, if you had one.

Don’t remember it, which probably tells you everything you need to know :P The first guy I ever kissed claimed I was the first girl he ever kissed so I thought we were gonna learn together. But anytime I ever tried to, like, make moves or whatever you’d call it, he would pull away and tell me to lay still. He preferred me passive and I wish I had seen that for the warning sign that it was!

7. Chai: Where do you want to travel next?

I’d be down to go to Hawaii. Or even a state here in the US I haven’t been to yet. I had hoped to go to Boston for a convention this month but then 1 of the 2 guests I wanted to see canceled so it didn’t make sense to spend all that money for just 1 guest. I’m bummed cuz Boston/MA woulda been totally new for me.

Yeah. My first boyfriend was a big fan of Everclear and The Wallflowers. He introduced me to both bands. But he told me if I ever knew he was listening to Everclear, I should worry because it meant he was upset and I did something to cause it. The Wallflowers first album is just really good, but inevitably, I hear all those songs and think of him and it’s not a pleasant feeling I get in my stomach. I have no specific bad memories tied to their songs, but just in general, I think of him and that’s not the most awesome. 

20. Green tea: What was the first movie you saw in a cinema?

I wish I could remember. My family used to go to the drive-in alllllllllll the time when we were kids, though, so it was no doubt something there but I’m not sure what. I’m going to research and edit this answer, though, cuz now I wanna know lol.
