Please disregard if you've answered before but I would LOVE an explanation of the Wily Cao meme. My husband is watching Three Kingdoms and Cao Cao has become a household name thanks to it
The 贼 in 曹贼/Cao Zei can also be translated to "thief" and "evil". The meme part is that he steals people's wives, as he had 15 wives and concubines and many of they were taken from those he defeated. However 曹贼 is a nickname he was given historically by his opponents.
The line that the guy quoted in the interview is from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms TV show where Cao Cao is speaking to Zhang Xiu's shenniang (wife of his father's younger brother).

Hello there! Could you please point me to your current commission pricing?
OH, thank you for reminding me! I've been meaning to add a link to this in my pinned post for a while (just done it!)
Here's my current commission information~ My queue is pretty full at the moment, but as long as you're in no hurry feel free to fill out a form and grab a slot.
My usual turn-around on a commission, from the time you fill out the form to the commission being done and turned over to you, is 1-3 months. But at the moment, it might be closer to 3-4 while I figure out my workflow and work on my current queue, just as a general heads up~
thanks for your interest :- )

Wanted to say I appreciated your response to me and respect that perspective, it gave me new stuff to mull over. I agree with it again on most everything but the specificity of the term 'canon'- but that's me being pedantic about a word at this point, not your fault. Voted for the girlies, thanks for not ripping my head off 👍
I very much respect your willingness to listen and handle this civilly! Thank you!

@championofravens hope you don't mind me rambling a bit about death of the author in response to this reply. (The poll thread is getting long, and none of what I have to say particularly relates to Witch From Mercury so I don't want to rb it again.)
Also, I want to preface this by saying I don't want to argue that death of the author is superior or change the mind of anyone who falls on the side of authorial intent, just put to paper some of the ideas I've had that I'm thinking about again because of this convo.
I guess I want a story to be a self contained unit that can be fully appreciated without outside input. Everything relevant should be in there, and the creators should make themselves clear in the text of the work if they don't want be misunderstood.
I'm not sure if I prioritize reader interpretation over canon but I can confidently say I think both take priority over word-of-god. If a creator wants to make an important point ... make it in the text, don't wait to drop it in a press release or blog post or twitter. If they make a point they didn't want to, too bad. They should have been more careful.
All that being said, I think there's scale here. I think the more people who experience a story, the more leeway it should be given to take legs and diverge from the creator's intent. That is to say, I think death of the author is more in-play for a massive media property viewed by hundreds of millions of people than an indie webcomic with a readership in the tens of thousands, and even less for a short story published in a zine read by a few hundred people, or a fanfic that gets 50 hits on AO3. It simply doesn't have the reach to withstand it, and any challenge to the creator's intent is more likely to be felt. Death of the author-ing Star Wars is lazily throwing a rock into the ocean; doing the same for someone's flop Sonic fanfic is shooting a rock into a red solo cup at terminal velocity.
On a personal tangent, a lot of what I write is ambiguous relationship-wise. I can intend all I want, tag correctly and leave authors notes but I can't stop someone from reading romance into intimate platonic interactions, or platonic love into a shipfic that isn't explicitly romantic. For me that's ok, as long as they don't run around arguing that I meant for it to be X when it's actually Y.
