What is “Internal Training”? @champtraining Internal Training is a type of specialized training that is dedicated to improving articular (joint) capacity, resilience, robustness, and intelligence. Humans are non-linear, self-organizing, constantly evolving, COMPLEX ADAPTIVE SYSTEMS with numerous feedback loops that display emergent behavior. DYNAMIC SYSTEMS THEORY can help us understand movement as continuous flow and change. The skill of movement is controlled by constraints: physical and informational. In an effort to prevent injury and enhance performance, we need to focus on improving the physical constraints first. Where do we start? Daily application of a CARs (Controlled Articular Rotations) routine may be the best way to maintain joint health and independence. Dedicating a few minutes of effort each day towards the exploration of your joint’s capacity (WORKSPACE) to move independently and under control can provide significant information about the tissue’s functional mobility, strength capacity, and joint health. Embracing the system by specifically training each joint independently with increasing loads/efforts will result in the adaptation of trained tissue to increase their ability to actively control and achieve larger ranges of motion with greater loads/efforts. Therefore, the increase in strength and control over larger ranges of motion decrease the likelihood of injury in the tissues trained range of motion. Rest Days are dedicated to “Internal Training” with the Functional Range Systems, CARs, PAILs, RAILs, and along the linear path as needed (I’ll discuss in future posts). I’ll continue dedicated training post until the entire 6 day rotation is available for everyone, then I’ll discuss “Internal” training. “C.H.A.M.P.” is more than the name of my Training Facility and 24/7 Gym. The word C.H.A.M.P. and it’s letters represent many of my training systems, protocols and programs. I have same many developed so many programs throughout the years that I can easily square or cube the letters of CHAMP in order for flowchart descriptions of various training programs and sessions. In my articles “Hypertrophy Periodization and Programming - Programming Variables - Part 1 and Part 2”, I thoroughly describe and explain the top ten variables used in my clients programs. Even though I tried to be brief and not bore the reader with too much science l, the articles totaled around ~22,000 words with 96 references. Unfortunately, most individuals don’t have the time or desire to read 50 pages about Hypertrophy Program Variables. In an effort to provide quality information to the individuals that don’t have time to read my articles, I created this video to describe exercise themes and set types. In my opinion exercises are more than loaded movement patterns used to provide a stimulus to target tissues. Exercises exist on a continuum of Hypertrophic Benefit vs Fatigue Cost. The goal of hypertrophy training is to manipulate exercise selection and exercise order to maximize hypertrophy stimulus and manage fatigue. Creating categories for exercises and resistance profiles provides a unique perspective towards programming for hypertrophy.
