Summer lights

I finally wrote Felibug. I am exhausted. But Felibug. Hooray. Enjoy the read, friends.

Felix hated summer nights sometimes. No, scratch that, he kinda hated them all the time, because he usually found himself restless on hot nights, then before he knew it he'd find himself wide awake again, sitting on the couch either having waken up after a horrible nightmare or never having a bat of sleep at all in the first place.

It sucked. Summer nights sucked.

He glanced at the digital clock on his nightstand. Bright, red digits spelling 2.39 A.M. stared back at him, and he sighed, walking over to the window and swinging it open, allowing a soft breeze to enter. He ran a hand through his messy hair, a brief flashback to the one time he went to the rooftop of Bridgette's home as Chat to drop her off.

After finding her in an alleyway, of all places, he sulked in his mind. That girl had promised to (try) keep away from trouble, but something in Felix told him that she wasn't quite planning to follow his words.

Rarely anyone did. He didn't blame them.

He shooed the thought away and let his mind come back to the window before him. He thought of Bridgette, who sat on her rooftop when she couldn't sleep, who had practically pitched a tent up on her rooftop because she went up there too many times for her to not try and make herself comfortable. Well, these were things he knew because he passed by the building she lived in on his 'nighttime town exploring' a little too often, at least more that he should.

His sight travelled to the tall tree right outside his window.

An incredibly stupid idea came into his head.

He was still in his pajamas (not really, but it's a grey T-shirt and some loose but comfy pants, and those are… probably not the kind of thing you'd want to be wearing when you're trying to carry out your newly gained Very Stupid Plan, but whatever, he's not changing just for this), and Plagg was comfortably snuggled up on his pillow.

Minutes later he found himself sitting crossed legged on his rooftop, a job that had way too little difficulty than he expected. His bad luck had made him a little more clumsy than he used to be, and that was one of the most horrid things that could possibly happen to you when you're constantly being chased by some villain's minion across the rooftop. Maybe that was why the job was so easy. He got better. That was a surprise.

But still, he thought as he moved his hands along the cool metal he was sitting on, this doesn't nearly compare to sitting on Bridgette's rooftop.

But it's not like you could pitch a tent here and get a stool and tea, a voice laughed at him. He didn't try to think of a counter, because he knew - he didn't know what his father would do, if he ever saw Felix here - instead leaning back a bit to get a better view of the sky. There was no moon or stars, just pitch black against city lights.

He didn't quite see how this night could get better for him.

"Rough night?"

It took him a rough three seconds to process that indeed, that was not Plagg speaking, not anyone else speaking, because it was a girl's voice. And he nearly toppled off the roof when he turned around to see a familiar face.

"Oh my god," exclaimed Ladybug with wide eyes as she tried to grab onto his arm. "You okay? I'm sorry I scared you."

Felix didn't reply immediately, too busy staring back at her and thinking to himself yes, this is real, you are not hallucinating, Felix, Ladybug is Here.

But what could he possibly say? Oh hey! I'm actually your superhero partner and that's why I'm not freaking out over a stranger that suddenly appeared on my rooftop!

Or, didn't you say we should keep our contact with other people to a minimal so we don't get our identities potentially busted?

Or, is jumping around town in the middle of the night a hobby of yours?

Yeah, he probably shouldn't say that. Couldn't either.

Instead, he settled for shaking his head lightly while trying to avoid eye contact with her. "It's okay. I just wasn't expecting anyone."

She looked vaguely amused. "Wow. Um, I actually expected you to be really surprised or weirded out at someone just randomly appearing here. But only after I actually greeted you!" she corrected herself frantically. "Sorry if you got weirded out."

He shook his head, trying to repress a grin. Ladybug, apologizing to him because she was scared that he got weirded out by her? That was something. She never seemed to make any mistakes, never mind any like this. "It's okay. I know you anyway."

"You know me?" she questioned with a raised eyebrow.

"Not really. But I have known for a while that there's someone taking care of all these strange occurrences in town lately. I just assumed you're the person."

She nodded. "That makes sense."

"Why are you here?"

"Well, I saw you sitting out here. Thought it was kinda weird for me to just past by and not say something."

"I suppose. I just needed some fresh air - but then sitting here doesn't really give me much."

"Why's that?"

He moved himself nearer to the edge of his seat carefully, allowing his legs to dangle. Ladybug did the same. He then pointed to the huge glass window across his front porch.

"That's my father's room," he said in a small voice.

"Oh. Does he not like it when you climb up here?"

"Probably. I don't do things like this. This is my first time climbing up here."

"Wow," she responded, before quickly adding, "I didn't mean for it to sound sarcastic."

He shrugged. "It's nothing."

"Do you want to go check out the town?" she asked, and Felix almost thought he saw light in her eyes. He understood what she meant, of course, but it would be too risky, spending time with her like this when he's got something to hide.

Something like the fact that he's actually her superhero partner in a weird catsuit.

"Pardon?"

"The town." She gestured to the lights in the city.

"What, you're gonna carry me?" He smiled, almost feeling like channeling his inner Chat, the one thing he shouldn't be doing.

A faint blush tainted her cheeks, embarrassment clear as she shooked her hand, "no-"

"I was just joking."

"From someone like you?"

Felix briefly considered saying something like you're hurting my feelings, bug! in an exaggerated tone. She would probably laugh at that. He would too, except he's not Chat now. Was Chat part of him now? He wasn't sure, but Chat definitely felt much more real than the character he created at the very beginning.

It was relaxing, actually, acting like that, pretending to be a carefree teenager and making jokes to her.

But he's Felix now, and Felix was too tired to think of amazing answers.

"…yeah, from someone like me." he muttered in a dry tone, looking down at himself. "Also, for that offer of yours - thank you, but I think I'll have to pass. I should probably get back to sleep. If I still want to go back to school without looking like a zombie."

She laughed at that last remark.

"I should probably go too," she said, getting to her feet and turning away. "I think I like it here. Do you mind if I come here sometimes?"

"I won't be up here that much, I'm afraid-" he said, but at the sight of her face dropping, he quickly added, "but you can just go knock on my window or something if you want to talk.

Ah yes, digging himself another hole. Just great. But Ladybug smiled at him, the kind of tired but sweet and content smile, and he felt his heart squeeze in a way he couldn't quite explain.

"I- well, thanks. It's been nice, talking with you."

"No one has ever said that to me."

She narrowed her eyes. "I'm sure that's not true."

"It is though." He shrugged.

"Then you should try talking to other people. I'm sure there are people who'd like to know you."

An image of Bridgette and her overly enthusiast friends flashed past his mind. He could see them - the loud and annoying Claude Haprele, oddly competitive but still nice Alan Mercier, and Allegra Bustier, his childhood friend he distanced himself from for… reasons he'd rather not recall.

"I'll think about that. Thank you."

She smiled again. "Good night, Felix."

She left, as silently as she came but not without a wave, and Felix felt like he could still see fluttering red ribbons from the corner of his eyes. She might come back for another visit, someday.

He was so, utterly screwed.

"Good night, Ladybug," he said to himself.

One day. One day he'll tell her.

But for now… it's enough.

BnHA Chapter 180: Deku VS Gentle ~Conclusion~

Previously on BnHA: The U.A. cultural festival kicked off. Gentle and Deku continued to duke it out. Gentle was still powered up with La Brava’s love quirk, but it wasn’t enough to really give him an edge; the two of them were pretty much going toe to toe and not dealing any real damage. Gentle tried to squish Deku under some stretchy air, but Deku unleashed his inner hobbit and fucking burrowed his way free. There was a lot of other ridiculous stuff like jacket-pulling and a lot of rough and tumble nonsense, and then Gentle had a tragic flashback. Basically he wanted to be a hero back in high school, but was something of a disaster, and was eventually expelled after a botched rescue attempt. Four years later he ran into an old classmate who had become a successful hero himself. Said classmate had no idea who Gentle was. The sting of this incident gave Gentle the motivation to study and train until he mastered his quirk, tired of being a failure. Back in the present, Deku’s attempts at trying to talk sense into him fell on deaf ears, and we were promised a conclusion in the next chapter. Which is this chapter! So bring it on!

Today on BnHA: Gentle and Deku stare at each other angrily while gripping each other’s hands and kind of pushing each other back and forth aggressively. It’s pretty intense but also ridiculous. Meanwhile La Brava flees into the woods with her laptop, desperate to hack U.A.’s security and complete Gentle’s mission. Gentle is all “I have to finish this quickly!” and starts bouncing around not really doing anything. Finally, Deku finishes him off with a shoot style roundhouse kick. He sportingly tells Gentle it was a difficult fight (which is a straight up lie but Deku is a nice person okay), right as La Brava comes running back and realizes Gentle has lost. She starts cutely beating Deku with her fists while crying, and Gentle realizes the situation he’s put her in, and that his failure means that she’ll be arrested as well. So he flings Deku away, attempting to make it look like the battle never occurred, and then he hugs La Brava, and then the pros arrive and he surrenders.

(As always, all comments not marked with an ETA are my unspoiled reactions from my first readthrough of this chapter. I’ve read up through chapter 206 now, so any ETAs will reflect that.)

funny that you should ask that, Gentle! because the thing is, Deku doesn’t actually care about recognition at all. he just wants to be a hero so that he can help others. imagine that

not that there’s anything wrong with wanting recognition. but if that’s the only thing you want, and you’re unable to be satisfied by anything else, you might want to prepare yourself for a lot of disappointment in life. and for the inevitable crisis you’ll have if and when you do ever finally achieve it, only to realize that it doesn’t really change anything and that you’ll still feel hollow inside until you finally realize that what you really wanted was ~love~

which you already have, apparently. so that’s great, dude. (again, just so long as it’s platonic??) I just wish you’d fucking figure it out already

but on the other hand, having All Might and Inko side by side is A++. like, he genuinely thinks of them as his mom and dad. those are his parents. this is great. All Might, your proposal had better be real classy. don’t try any of that cheesy surprise proposal in public in front of dozens of other people bullshit. she will get super shy and embarrassed. what you should do is take her on a romantic nighttime walk on Dagobah Beach, and tell her this is where you trained with Izuku before giving him OFA, and you’re so grateful that the two of them came into your life, and you can’t imagine it without them. and then you drop down on one knee and you whip out the ring and that’s when you pop the question, bro

anyways I got swept up in my fantasies, but Deku is still continuing his speech here

very nice callback to that “you can be a hero” moment. you know what, I haven’t listened to the OST in a while. I’m gonna put that on

and Gentle seems to be smiling and he’s all “the same, huh”

and now he’s fucking flinging Deku into a nearby tree. rude

wow, La Brava is still committed to the plan and telling herself that Gentle will definitely win, and she’s actually setting up her fucking laptop in the middle of the woods and trying to connect to U.A.’s wireless network

but apparently she is “just barely” out of range

holy shit how far does U.A.’s network extend. is there a reason they need wifi all the way out in the middle of the damn woods? probably so the teachers can dick around on their phones while the students do survival exercises

so she’s picking up the laptop and running!

oh my god lol I almost said “you can do it!!” out loud and then I remembered that I’m supposed to be rooting against her lol

Gentle’s calling after her not to go and that it’s too dangerous on her own

anyway, so now Gentle is all “I have to finish this quickly!”

I was going to be all sarcastic and like “yes, nothing says respect like trying to beat the shit out of someone.” but then I remembered that this is shounen and that actually is how people show respect, like, all the time. so okay, yeah, that’s fair

that was pretty dumb but also hilarious. at any rate, I guess we get to go onto the festival now! BRING ME MY BAND AU AND MY HAPPY ERI’S SMILING FACE

no bonus, but look, Deku survived a 1-on-1 villain fight with no lasting damage, the villain learned a valuable lesson about love and friendship, class A is about to slay the entire U.A. campus with their sound, and All Might is proposing to Inko on the beach. basically life is pretty good.

Hmmm probably the end of Trials and Tribulations when Phoenix and Mia exorcise Dahlia from Maya’s body. Also I love any moment I consider Phoenix/Maya shipping moments.

ALSO the first cut scene in Dual Destinies. You know the one.

When it really disappointed you:

Basically Apollo Justice as a whole?

Saddest moment:

From the Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright crossover. Maya falling into the fire and Phoenix thinking for quite a while that she was dead.

Most well done character death:

I really like Dahlia’s death because... it wasn’t really permanent for a while there lmao.

Misty AND Mia Fey. Maya didn’t deserve losing so much of her family so young.

I want Apollo and Trucy to find out they’re related and that their mother is still alive, and I would love for a Phoenix case where Trucy is his co-counsel.

Also if Phoenix/Maya could become canon that’d be great, k thanks Capcom.

Most shocking twist:

Probably because it was one of the only things I hadn’t been spoiled for: the Phantom’s identity. I don’t know why but I had not even considered who it ended up being and I was shocked, lmao.

Also (T&T spoilers) the fact that Maya was the one channeling Dahlia in the end of T&T.

When did you start watching/reading/playing?:

I started watching the anime in April 2016 I think, then started the games soon after. Was caught up by the end of the year.

Best animal/creature:

I like Missile the dog.

Favourite location:

It’s between the regular law office, Kurain Village, or Hazakura Temple.

Trope you wish they would stop using:

Damsel in Distress, when it comes to Maya at least.

One thing this show/book/film/game does better than others:

A lot of people would probably disagree but I think this series handles female characters really well. None of them are really there just to be sexy. Yes some of them are sexy and do have their fanservice moments, but that’s never the only reason they’re there. The biggest example would probably be Mia. She’s definitely hot, has that typical sexy anime woman body, but she’s so much more than just her sexiness. She’s the main character’s mentor, and he never ever thinks of her with anything other than complete and utter respect.

Funniest moments:

There are so many good moments. Phoenix and Maya’s banter is always great, Phoenix’s sarcastic inner thoughts can actually be hilarious at times, even Edgeworth has his moments.

Couple you would like to see:

Phoenix/Maya of course.

I love Phoenix’s post AJ suit, okay. That waistcoat and the necklace chain in his pocket somehow makes it so much sexier. I also really like Blackquill’s look for some reason.

I don’t own a lot, but this is probably the series I own the most for. I’ve bought a lot of fan made stuff, like keychains and zines and stuff, have all the games (and just re-purchased the trilogy again just to have a physical copy), phone case, the manga volumes, an art book, the Blurays of the anime, and the Phoenix Wright figma.

I’m not sure. I do always cringe during the windy objections in the anime, lmao.

Hmmmm. I’m really not sure. I feel like all the main characters are pretty layered.

Again, not a very gross game even if it involves murder. Maybe Terry Fawles’ death?

10 "No resurrections this time"

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, many Loki fans were upset at the way the God of Mischief had died, or rather, given his life to defend his brother, Thor, at the hands of Thanos. After an attempt of trying to fool Thanos into thinking he was still on his side, Loki pulls out his dagger to stab him but fails. Thanos then chokes the Asgardian prince to death, leaving a distraught Thor to mourn his brother. Thanos claims, "No resurrections this time," as Loki had become notorious for faking his death.

However, the way Loki died in this scene seemed so unconvincing to fans that many joked about him being gone forever, using this meme from Thor: Ragnarok to mock anyone who believed he was really dead.

9 "I've never met this man in my life"

Marvel's November 2017 box-office hit Thor: Ragnarok brought a gold mine of jokes into the MCU and, consequently, a new wave of memes for the internet.

After landing in Sakaar - the place for all lost and unloved things - Thor is surprised to see Loki there also. As he tries to call his brother over to him, Loki is taken aback by his brother's arrival to Sakaar, where time works differently. Having landed there before Thor, Loki had already been in Sakaar for a few weeks and established himself with new friends. He tells his brother he's never met him before - and it's become a hilarious meme when applied to pretending like we don't know someone or recognize someone when we obviously do.

8 He's low-key

The first Thor movie was released by Marvel in 2011, which means Loki has been an MCU character for eight years. That also means that for the past eight years, Loki has been a meme of countless "low-key" jokes.

Tom Hiddleston himself has even joked about the word-play in multiple interviews. However, fans of Thor and Loki know that the brothers argue and fight many times because of how different their personalities, goals, and aspirations are. In light of the fact that the princes are constantly clashing, this meme conveys that Loki is the more low-key of the two, painting Thor in a more "high-strung" and complicated light. Many Loki fans might say this is not at all true, which makes it even more hilarious.

7 The fear of missing out

In Marvel's first Avengers movie, released in July 2011, it's Loki versus his brother and all of Earth's mightiest heroes. Back then, nobody liked Loki. It was hard to root for him, as the main enemy of the film.

But as more and more Marvel movies have revealed, we know now that Thanos was the puppet master behind many of the enemies that tried to push the Avengers and other heroes of the universe to their deaths. It's funny to look back on it now and think that perhaps Loki wasn't as evil as he was made out to be in the first Avengers movie, and maybe all he wanted was to be invited out to dinner with the rest of the team.

6 Loki, God of Mischief, Moodboard

One of the reasons Loki fans adore his character so much is that over the past eight years, Marvel has developed Loki into someone who has become more and more relatable over time. Ever since the first Thor, it's established that Loki - despite all his tricks, lies, and deception - was at his core, the product of a troubled childhood and family dynamic.

Fans latched on to Loki's way of channeling deception to deal with his feelings. The meme below is a great summary of the character's multi-dimensional personality on every level from rage to sarcasm, something everyone feels but is too afraid to express sometimes - so Loki does it for them.

5 We're definitely related

In Thor: Ragnarok, it's revealed to Marvel audiences that Thor and Loki actually have a sister - Hella, the Goddess of Death - who was banished by Odin to the depths of hell long before the princes were born and has been living there until this film.

If you look closely at Hella's first scene in the film, it's easy to tell that her dark hair and gothic makeup actually mirror's Loki's evil looks in the first Thor movie. When she suddenly demands her brothers to kneel before her, it's a direct reflection of Loki demanding humans to kneel before him in Avengers 1. The internet spared no time in translating Loki's facial reaction into a hysterical inner thought process.

4 The joke of Loki's many deaths

Loki fakes his death in the first Thor film by letting go of his father's hand at the edge of a destroyed Bifrost bridge, committing what appears to be a suicide. Thor screams for his brother in agony, but we soon learn at the movie's end credit that's he's somehow just teleported himself to Earth and is after the Tesseract - which we know now is the story of Avengers 1.

Loki then stages his death multiple times after that and becomes an easy target for memes. For someone who cries wolf so much, it's hard for fans to believe when he's actually gone forever.

3 Are you busy on Friday?

Twitter is a great place to find memes because it's an online platform where spontaneous thoughts are put out into the universe with the opportunity to go viral. Their latest sensation? "Are you busy on Friday?" "That entirely depends on the rest of the information you're about to give me."

It's a funny way of exposing someone's passive way of answering yes or no to a question that should be simple, but we all know - the details of what's actually happening on "Friday" have a huge impact to someone's answer. When you mix it together with Loki's sarcastic smile, it brings the funny to a whole new level.

2 What Loki really meant

One thing that remains so interesting about Loki (and Thor) as princes and Asgardian royalty is the language that they use. Alongside people like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, their way of speaking sounds almost Shakespearean (as Tony himself jokes in Avengers calling Thor "Shakespeare in the park,"). Fans love pointing out that even if he's playing the villain or the trickster, Loki is polite, concise, and clear with his language.

The internet translating his royal speech into basic text message language gives Loki even more of a hilarious persona.

With most of the thanks probably given to actor Tom Hiddleston and his talent at acting and giving Loki the personality he has on-screen, it's no question that he's become a fan favorite - especially among the fangirls.

This meme pokes fun at the blogging site Tumblr, which is a famous platform that mostly young teenage girls use to share images, artwork, stories, and posts. As the frontman of a large female teen fanbase, it's true to his character that he'd be the kind of "celebrity" to relish in his newfound fame.
