You’ve probably noticed by now that life isn’t always sunshine, rainbows and fluffy puppies. Sometimes life likes to launch weaponised citrus fruit at our lives, apparently to bring our enjoyment levels down, but that’s not why. When life gives you lemons it’s to test your capacity, to test your tolerance for discomfort and to help build your character. Why must there be discomfort? Because nothing ever grows in a comfort zone and because, to quote Thomas Paine: “What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.” So the question today is, can you stay in your higher level — the best and most positive version of yourself — when the trials of life threaten to bog you down? Can you you reframe the prevailing hardship and, rather than become demoralised and self-pitying, rise heroically to the challenge and accept it as merely a test of your capacity, and nothing personal? The thing is, it’s easy to be your best, most positive self when life is plain sailing, but it’s a test of true character to remain your best, most positive self when the waters get choppy. If you fade and succumb to your lowest energies (e.g.: anger, hatred, bitterness and spite) when times get tough, then you will stay in that downward spiral until you grow out of that limiting mindset. Here we are, after years I pick a project that has some years, I wanted to do but never found the right instrument. And the answer is of course Blender. The long time without posting was spent studying the new Grease Pencil module @blender.official always a step ahead. I hope to share soon also the big work I made to make the rig feel right. Here's a small test I've done for a character I'm hoping to animate. It's far from perfect, but it was basically a test of the design, and i think it gave me more confidence to animate this character.

(( Marek Emberstorm Test Page ))

The flames licked along his skin as his eyes settled on the man in front of him. His taunting smile was infuriating.... the foul words thrown in his direction stinging and causing the flame to lick to life. "You want to see the fire that resides within me?" A slow grin curves his lips, Marek's arms raising to point hands straight to his sides. Flames erupt outward as if from the mouth of a dragon, burning the trees on either side of him. The image brings to mind depictions of hell, a flaming demon standing in the mortal world. Marek's eyes close slowly and he takes a deep breath, the flames... curving with his will to encircle the man.

As he spins, eyes frantically seeking a way around the burning wall, Marek steps through the flame and stands inches away. His head cocks to the side and he laughs, shaking his head. "You wanted to see my fire.... my madness..... Here it is!" His hands snap out, grabbing the man on either side of his head. He shrieks as searing fingers dig into his temples and leave deep black marks. Marek simply chuckles, the sizzling of flesh like that of applause. He finally drops his arms, then turns slowly to walk away as the man drops to his knees, the flames burning out at his feet.
