Thinking about how Charlie and Mac grew up together and they probably were always hanging around each other's houses and practically being another child within the houses. Their parents may never meet, but they sure know the other's kid

I like to think that they would collect call their parents at a pay phone, using the small message part to tell their parents where they were going, so they wouldn't have to pay for a call and their parents didn't get upset they weren't home for dinner (Mac's parents wouldn't care tbh. Charlie's mom requires it tho)

I like to think that Mac would come over to Charlie's to protect him from the Nightman and it would work. Then Charlie would come over and hide away at Mac's, especially once his sisters are born. The two would literally spend half of their time at the other's house and that's where they got the reputation of always being together

It would also be a good start for the codependency the show has ongoing between the lot of them all. Charlie and Mac learned how to survive together and if you dropped them in a ton of situations where they have to live, they could do it. Mac can cook and has normal practical skills while Charlie can steal and pretty much make something out of nothing

Of course, when Dennis shows up (and inevitably Dee) it shakes things up. But they quickly find a place for Dennis

(not shown: Dennis trying to get them to be more classy and trying his best to feed them and clean them up. But it's hard to leave your roots so they always end up compromising)
