Mystic Pop-Up Bar Episode 11
Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo, acting so not subtle with their feelings after settling a 500-year misunderstanding, and are back being the lovebirds they were.
Bonus:
Tumblr media
Kang Bae being extremely suspicious, immediately when he saw them after they reconciled. A son’s intution.

My Fave OTPs of 2020
(In no particular order)
1. Dong-Joo x Nok Du - Tale of Nokdu
Tumblr media
These two are just so funny together! They just compliment each other’s personalities so much! I also loved all the kissing scenes. 😍😍
2. Hwang Si-mok x Han Yeo-Jin - Stranger
Tumblr media
A relationship built on mutual respect and trust? A relationship portrayed by two veteran actors? Heck yes!! I know they are not officially together but here is hoping for season 3!
3. Weol-ju x Chief Gwi - Mystic Pop-up Bar
Tumblr media
They are a total old married couple and I loved every second they interacted with each other.
4. Han Kang-bae x Kang Yeo-rin - Mystic Pop-up Bar
Tumblr media
These too were quite literally made for each other. They are just so awkward and sweet with one another. I also love how the girl is the tough and protective one and the boy is the soft and sweet one.
5. Wei Ying x Lan Zhan - The Untamed
Tumblr media
This couple made me truly believe that they were soulmates! And they did that with no kissing scenes! That just shows the amazing talent that went into the scriptwriting to make their relationship believable and the talent of the actors to portray it.
6. Ha-seon x Yoo So-woon -- The Crowned Clown
Tumblr media
They are just sooo sweet with one another. The scene where she tells him she wants to live in the house at the end of the street just so she could walk longer together with her husband is probably my favorite scene ever!
7. Lu Yi x Yuan Jinxia _Under the Power
Tumblr media
This couple is the perfect examples of opposites attract. I just love how their relationship grows through the show.
8. Lee No-eul x Koo Seung-hyo -Life
Tumblr media
I think half of the reason I stuck with this drama was because of this couple. Ugh, I wish they had more time on screen with each other. However, the scenes they did have with one another were so cute! I loved how No-eul was able to soften Seung-hyo.

Thoughts on Mystic Pop Up Bar So Far
Tumblr media
First off, I’ve just gotta say how much I’m enjoying it so far. I’ve read that the ratings were bad, but like it’s 10/10 for me so far, and I’m pretty sure it’ll continue like that till the end. Pity that it’s only 12 episodes long, which brings me to why it’s only 12 episodes long? Like that’s weird, shouldn’t it be 16 episodes? Anyways back to the actual part, I don’t normally do these sorts of things, but the amount of love and enjoyment I have, watching Mystic Pop Up Bar is tremendous and I’ve gotta talk about it!
The dynamic between Kang Bae, Weol-Joo, and Chief Gwi is peak chaotic family culture, and I’m all here for it! Kang Bae is the son that Weol-Joo & Chief Gwi basically adopted, and they’re a chaotic family but they work so well with one another. Currently I’m falling hard for the Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo pairing, and I’m gonna stick with them to the end. Their chemistry is amazing, and I just can’t see Kang Bae with Weol-Joo, when my image of them is more like mother-son or even siblings-ish.
Tumblr media
Now moving on to some theories, I personally think that Chief Gwi is the prince/majesty that Weol-Joo loved back then when she was alive. Seeing the ep.5 preview, along with some hints in previous episodes, I have a good feeling that he is. I feel like putting Kang Bae as the prince/majesty is a bit farfetched, especially how they’re setting up the story and characters, but that’s just what I think. Although, if the writers know what’s good for them, they should go down the path of Chief Gwi being the prince.... 👍🏻
Tumblr media
Finally, talking about Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo, their chemistry and dynamic is amazing, and I just love their funny banters and arguments! Especially after watching ep.4, with all the scenes and moments pointing to some romance between them, I just couldn’t wait to talk about it! That hilarious scene when Chief Gwi arrives just in time to deliver the good deeds, with a dramatic entrance and wind blowing through Weol-Joo’s hair as she just looks at him coming in 😂 that’s kdrama’s for you. But srsly is it just me or does Choi Won-Young ace Chief Gwi, and looks so very handsome??? Anyways ep.5’s preview is literally making me squeal and I can’t wait for it! Here’s to waiting 5 more days... 😔
Also, I forgot to mention this, but the effects/CGI is absolutely phenomenal in this drama, idk if that’s just me, but the effects used, gives some serious fantasy vibes, and that whole fight scene with Chief Gwi & the sword was just 👌🏻 Choi Won-Young delivered 🙌🏻

Mystic Pop Up Bar Thoughts - Episode 10
Tumblr media
To the writers: Umm I didn’t ask for my heart to be broken into a million little pieces.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
-
-
-
Tumblr media
I’ve read recently that perhaps Death really isn’t death, but it’s Won-hyung, and it was super plausible so it didn’t rlly surprise me when episode 10 showed us what rlly happened. I’m more concerned about the fact that Won-hyung was so hellbent in exacting revenge that he killed his own father essentially. Death didn’t deserve that, he was a good person, just blinded momentarily because of his regret in not being a good father to his son. I felt rlly bad, but what’s done is done. Hopefully he can be redirected but tbh idk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole episode was literally just showcasing the sadness and regret that Chief Gwi has had for 500 years. Turns out, he did know everything, about his past, about who he is, and who Weol-Joo is to him. So all the stuff Weol-Joo has said to him about her past, about the pain she suffered, all of it he understood because he was the main reason as to why she’s suffering, and it quite literally breaks my heart. The way he said that Weol-Joo didn’t need someone who loved her right now, but someone who can help her, and the pain and sadness in his eyes is just so heart-wrenching. This episode also had Chief Gwi’s mother appear, and honestly I didn’t like her before, and I still rlly don’t now, but I can see where she was coming from, from a mother’s perspective. I also want to point out that Samshin is definitely Weol-Joo’s mother, the scene where Samshin and Chief Gwi interacts, confirms it. She also thinks that Chief Gwi has done enough, and I’m crying again because he feels like he’s done nothing.
Tumblr media
I liked how Kang Bae was able to defend Yeo-Rin when she met her ex at the supermarket. Good going Kang Bae! And Yeo-Rin is confirmed as the reincarnated cinnabar, which was pretty obvious from last episode, but they’re basically a match made in heaven... literally.
Tumblr media
Besides finding out that Chief Gwi IS the prince, we now see the side of him that loves Weol-Joo. We can clearly see his feelings, his frustrations, and pain. He literally did and sacrificed everything for Weol-Joo, and he would choose to do the same things in a heartbeat. The panic and anguish he felt when he heard that Weol-Joo signed the contract that expels her reincarnation and sends her to the hell of extinction, was just so painful to watch. In the end he took her punishment as his own, and that’s when I started crying. Yeomradaewang said that he had already served his full punishment and more, he did enough, but he still goes and takes Weol-Joo’s punishment. Get a guy like Chief Gwi who will literally go to hell for the one he loves. Makes me emotional again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, the preview. It’s just a mixture of angst, comedy, and cuteness. Kang Bae finding out that Weol-Joo & Chief Gwi dated in their past lives was hilarious, that date that Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo is on, and that slap is just—. I’m guessing that Weol-Joo & Chief Gwi will reconcile, seeing as though they’re quite calm when Kang Bae learns of this revelation, which also explains the date (yes they’re on a date leave me be). The slap, I can understand, but still it hurts to see Chief Gwi getting slapped by the love of his life. Poor boi, give him a break. 🥺
This episode has definitely brought us on quite a journey with the characters and the revelations make everything so much clearer, but now that things have been revealed, we’re in for a lot of angst in the last two episodes and I’m totally NOT prepared to cry my eyes out when I watch the last episode. Just praying for Weol-Joo & Chief Gwi to be happy together and live their lives as they wanted before with their son, Kang Bae, at their side, just being the cute chaotic family that they are. Now excuse me, while I replay the episode and cry because of how much pain Chief Gwi is in and how everything is just too sad. 🤧

Mystic Pop Up Bar Thoughts - Ep. 12 [FINAL]
Tumblr media
SPOILERS AHEAD
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Ahh, the last episode of MPUB has aired, and I’ve finished it with a heavy heart, filled with emotions. The last episode has basically answered all the questions, theories, and hopes that we had, and ended the drama off as a masterpiece. I was going to right a full on review of MPUB, but I think my thoughts are enough review, so I’ll end off my last thoughts of MPUB with a small review.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the beginning of ep.12 it gave us more insight on the sacred tree, and further solidified the fact that Kang Bae IS Weol-Joo & Chief Gwi’s child. I wanted to see a bit more of the sacred tree, but we get what we get. Anyways, the sacred tree is rlly powerful and gave Won-hyung a run for his money in like .0001 seconds, the sacred tree clapped back! After the confrontation with Won-hyung, Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo bring Kang Bae back to his house, and Weol-Joo drops the baby bomb on Chief Gwi. His reaction is definitely not surprising, and his emotions are called for. I mean imagine finding out that you did have a child with the person you loved, but stuff went sideways and basically realizing that they’ve been there the whole time. After realizing that they’re both the parents of Kang Bae, their parenting radar went up, becoming protective parents, parenting 101. Then, of course, Won-hyung comes to mess everything up and kidnaps Kang Bae, while the whole squad puffs up and is ready to rescue him. Yeo-Rin stepped up big time and was being a g, while Chief Gwi, cool as always, brought out his glave and wreaked havoc with it. Can I just say tho, Chief Gwi is serving them looks. Give Choi Won-Young an Oscar, cuz he did an absolute stellar job as Chief Gwi. Once again tho, the drama showed off some amazing CGI effects and choreography! The fight between Chief Gwi & all the possessed people, was cool to watch + the fight with Won-hyung, and of course, cue the catchy action themed music to make it all the more epic! He was just completely bad*** in this episode!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then here comes the angst, like HEAVY angst. When Kang Bae was confronting Won-hyung we learn that he already knows that he is Weol-Joo & Chief Gwi’s child. I was a bit surprised at first that Kang Bae knew, but then he said he knew after he fainted and I realized that, that was the same for Chief Gwi’s mother. So it made sense. Then Won-hyung put him in the dream world so he would be able to exterminate him, while Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo are trying to protect Kang Bae from the outside, with Chief Gwi dying in the process. He’s done so much already, and here he goes getting impaled by his very own glave, protecting the ones he loves. Ouch. Uh like excuse me, I didn’t ask to be hurt like this. Out comes the waterworks. Then there’s that “I love you” confession before Chief Gwi died, and that hit HARD. Like I cried more on this scene than the other scenes I cried on. But srsly, you writers should’ve given them more happy moments together before they got ripped apart from each other and making us all sad over it 😞 He didn’t even say I love you back tho, what blasphemy!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going into Kang Bae’s dreamworld, Won-hyung is pushing Kang Bae over the edge when mama Weol-Joo comes in, real pissed. I mean the man she loves just died in front of her, and her child’s life is being threatened, who wouldn’t? She tried to push Won-hyung down, but he got a grip on her and dragged her with him, not before Kang Bae managed to grab onto Weol-Joo’s hand. The way Kang Bae was just crying and finally said “mom,” well thanks for that arrow. Weol-Joo letting go and falling into the darkness was just messed up, and my heart broke for this separated family. 🥺😭
Tumblr media
Then some time passed, Kang Bae still not over the fact that Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo is gone, but I’m glad Yeo-Rin was there to help him through it and provide comfort and love. I was really hoping for a happy ending for the three of them, and my wish was answered. Weol-Joo was back, and plot twist! It was her grudge that was solved, and was able to fulfill the 100,000 grudges quota, and honestly that was a good move, so good job writers! Yeomradaewang came through, and wanted to reward Weol-Joo with someone that a) took her punishment unconditionally & b) rescued her from the void/darkness. Can you guys guess who it is? MY BOI CHIEF GWI 🙌🏻 He comes in with a smile on his face and his arms open wide. The hug was the best reunion I could ask for, we don’t always need a kiss to make a couple/ship work or show how strong they are. The way they connect, work with one another, actions, and sacrifices is what proves their love for one another. Get a love story like this. Precious bby’s 💕 Also, this is just my way of interpreting how Chief Gwi was able to come back, but in the end, it talks about how the heavens can be moved by even little things, and honestly, I’m pretty sure all the self-sacrificing Chief Gwi did, was what changed their minds, and they were moved by his love and determination to keep his loved ones safe and being good to his promises.
Tumblr media
Their reunion was so heartwarming to see, the way Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo look at Kang Bae, like the adorable and loving parents they are, and Kang Bae is like “I’m home.” Ugh, my heart 😣❤️ I cried a bit here too, but who wouldn’t am I right? 😂 It was a good and happy ending, that I’ll take, and I’m glad the writers were able to do these characters justice and bring about MPUB to what it was.
Tumblr media
Btw, is it just me or did I not see this scene like anywhere in the last episode? I wonder if it’s a deleted scene or if I really just missed it in a blink of an eye, but Chief Gwi with those sunglasses... 😳 Just hits differently you know?
-
Anyways, wrapping up, MPUB was an overall amazing drama from start to finish. It had me engrossed from the first episode to the last episode, and the attachment I have with the three characters is saying a lot for me, since I don’t get attached as much. The only times I get attached to a drama and their characters is because I rlly rlly like it, and because I like it, it grows on me. The OST’s, cinematography, CGI effects, characters, story, and basically everything else was well done and crafted! The writers did an amazing job on the story, and being able to deliver plot twists and revelations that actually make sense, and for the actors and actresses that were able to make the drama for what it is. I mean, just spectacular performance to the main actors/actresses, especially Choi Won-Young! I’m really going to miss MPUB. It made me sad, happy, relieved, thoughtful, and surprised all at the same time. Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo is my fav couple at the moment, and them with Kang Bae is the most adorable and loving family ever, our found family/chaotic family trio. The only thing I’ll complain about is the fact that there was only 12 episodes. In all honesty, I rlly wouldn’t mind if there was a second season. I also wish they explored the sacred tree a bit more, and gave us a scene or two of Weol-Joo & Kang Bae finding out that Chief Gwi took her punishment instead, but that’s just me nitpicking out of an amazing drama. It was a wonderful journey to go through while watching MPUB, and I’m also thankful for the MPUB fandom. So very wholesome and filled with lovely people! Thanks to all who have read my thoughts and enjoyed my content! 💕

Mystic Pop Up Bar Thoughts - Ep. 6
Tumblr media
Episode 6 starts off with Kang Bae having this hilarious dream, and a jade ring making its appearance in it. Now, a jade ring? Why would it be in Kang Bae’s dream? There goes another theory, where we all analyze it like crazy.... moving on! I’m starting to like Kang Bae & Yeo-Rin’s interactions, more and more! They’re both kind of unsure what their connection to one another is, but the attraction is there. The gout lovers movie tho.... that’s peak comic relief 😂 We also get insight on what’s up with Yeo-Rin, not to spoil much or anything, but it’s starting to all make sense.
Tumblr media
This episode was a pretty heart-wrenching episode as well, showcasing the reality of not being able to have a child, the pure sorrow of it is enough to strike up tears in my eyes. Recently I’ve also been watching Oh My Baby, and that drama addresses the same concept as the one presented in ep. 6. It really is something hard to go through, and I liked how the drama was able to portray it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really liked how this episode gave us more of the trio together, the cute chaotic family that works. The scenes where they’re sneaking into Samsin’s house and trying to steal a conception prize was hilarious, which brings us to the peach conception dream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way they put Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo as the parents in the peach conception dream was priceless, and honestly they’re basically a married couple so it won’t hurt lol. The trio worked together, and finally accomplished their goal, which was blessing Su-gyeong with a child.
Tumblr media
I want to rewind to the part where Chief Gwi asks Weol-Joo why she was so adamant on helping Su-gyeong. This moment was a really important moment because Weol-Joo finally told someone about her past, something that she didn’t do for 500 years until now, and that was to no one other than Chief Gwi. Weol-Joo sharing about her past, her feelings proves that she’s opening up, and trusting someone enough to tell them. After she tells him, Chief Gwi seems thoughtful afterwards, and told her that there’s two people who understand her now, besides her mother. I find that moment that they both shared, a meaningful one, and it just goes to show what kind of bond they have. I’m still putting my money on Chief Gwi being the prince, because most of the hints the writers are throwing at us points to that result. I also want to mention that Chief Gwi was basically going to be promoted to chief of police before he came and began to help Weol-Joo. Knowing that it’s a crime to steal a conception dream, he still went with her to commit it, which just goes to show that he’ll basically do anything for her. 😌
Tumblr media
Now wrapping up, ep. 6 ends with the pop-up bar being closed down for good, due to the whole scheme of stealing a conception dream. The consequences have come, and now Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo will have to do community service, until they go on a hunt for “someone” in order to be reimbursed. I wasn’t going to talk about the preview for the next episode, but Chief Gwi in a suit and his hair all tidied up just hits differently.

Mystic Pop Up Bar Thoughts - Ep. 5
Tumblr media
Can I just say that ep. 5 fed us with so much Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo content that has me reeling! In all seriousness though, episode 5 was a great episode that I have thouroughly enjoyed watching, and keep wanting more of! The action scene were nicely done and chereographed as usual, another heart-wrenching story, between a man and his wife (not to get too spoily), and lots of character interactions that are solidifying ships and funny shenanigans!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right at the beginning, there’s already a lot of adorable/wholesome moments between Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo. I mean that whole bike scene was screaming cuteness, and the way Chief Gwi was grinning the whole time while Weol-Joo was just back there chilling and having a good time was just simply domestic and nice to watch! It might as well have been a date, seemingly that they basically did things that have qualities of a date. Taking a bike ride, sharing their food *cough, indirect kiss, cough,* and just having a good time with one another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we have the whole action scene with Chief Gwi and the evil spirit, while saving Weol-Joo with his cool-looking flaming sword. Weol-Joo realizes that being police wasn’t as easy, she recognizes the danger and importance of it, and shows visible worry over Chief Gwi’s injury. How she took care of his injury was literally so adorable and caring. I don’t want to spoil EVERYTHING but before the whole action scene, prepare yourself for the moment in the bus, I was literally replaying and innerly screaming 😂💕
Tumblr media
I enjoyed watching the scenes between Kang Bae & Yeo-Rin as well. They’re both still relatively trying to understand and get to know one another, and their interactions are getting better and better! The girl who basically nullifies any supernatural power while the boy who has powers that makes people tell him their problems and worries. That’s a pretty interesting duo right there. I like the development that’s happening between them, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for them.
Tumblr media
Wrapping up, I want to talk about the whole “... I want to be the person you need” scene. This scene really makes my theory of Chief Gwi being the prince more accurately correct than ever. (I posted this scene earlier) When Chief Gwi said those words, Weol-Ju thinks back to a conversation she and the prince had, and how they basically said the same things. It’s not a coincidence that the prince and Chief Gwi basically said the same exact words. After the flashback ends, the way Chief Gwi was lost in thought or reminiscing as Weol-Ju is also, amplifies the fact that Chief Gwi is remembering something as well, which can very well be the very same memory that Weol-Joo was reliving. Anyways that’s just my two cents on that.
Overall, I thought this was a really great episode, and worth the five days that I had to wait for it (it was such an excruciating wait ;-;). I can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode! Here’s to more theorizing and shipping moments!

Mystic Pop Up Bar Thoughts - Ep.11
Tumblr media
This episode definitely answered and finally put to rest, the 500-year misunderstanding, and has paved way to the last episode, where everything will be completely connected and solved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, Kang Bae & Yeo-Rin. They really do be cute, and I liked their scenes when they’re together and everything! I mean finally lol. Then there’s the confrontation between Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo, the confrontation that had been awaited for, for a while. Although I understand why she slapped him, it still hurt, and all the pain and anguish he had in his eyes when Weol-Joo was crying was just heartbreaking. Gotta hand it to MPUB, even though it’s kind of a sad scene, the scenery is phenomenal and looks absolutely beautiful!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we finally got to meet the cinnabar, in her human form, through Yeo-Rin’s dream, and we finally understand why all the guys she dated before were scared away from her “creepy aura.” It’s because the cinnabar didn’t like men, because the one time she did, he broke her heart. And guess who the man was? Won-hyung. Won-hyung back at it again, ruining other people’s lives. 🙄 Also, I love the fact that Weol-Joo is like, “you helped me solve the 500-year misunderstanding, and now I’m gonna be your bestie.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omg, the moment where Chief Gwi puts on the jade ring onto Weol-Joo was when my life was complete and I let out a happy sigh of relief, with a few tears streaking down my face, but that’s not the point. It was a heart felt moment between them, when the misunderstanding was cleared up, and finally they could be released from all the pain, suffering, and anguish they both had to go through for 500 years. They finally resolved the problem, and their scars are being healed.
Tumblr media
Lastly, Won-hyung finally gives in to his anger, and breaks the “Death,” persona and begins to choke the life out of Weol-Joo. Won-hyung gets no sympathy from me, quite honestly he deserved what he got. Not only did he have plans for an uprising, but he also CAUSED the misunderstandings between Chief Gwi & Weol-Joo, and that’s unforgivable on my list. Kang Bae showed up, as Won-hyung was choking Weol-Joo, tried to stop him whilst being thrown back with a big enough force to knock him out. A few seconds later, Kang Bae *not Kang Bae* awakens and guess what? It’s the sacred tree! Which leads me to the fact that perhaps the last grudge will be the sacred tree’s grudge. Also I’m pretty sure Weol-Joo is already thinking in her mind, “iS tHat mY sOn?!?!”
Wrapping up, I’m excited to watch the last episode, but also extremely sad that it’ll be last that we’ll see of MPUB, and our chaotic family trio. I’m not ready to say goodbye, but I’m very happy that I was able to discover this drama and have the opportunity to love it as much as I do. I REALLY hope that the writers won’t send Chief Gwi to the hell of extinction and let him live a happy life with Weol-Joo & their son. There NEEDS to be a happy ending for them, because if there isn’t... I don’t know how I’d do.
