I don't understand budget cuts. You will still need to bring 2 new people in. They better have given Ritter and Carver a goodbye. I hope its not something they did after they shot the finale.

Also, who makes these decisions? the writers? the producers? cause no way they gave Carver all these storylines just for him to end it now?

The reasoning is that even if they have to hire two new actors, IF those actors are not well known, then theoretically, they can pay them less than what they were paying Daniel or Jake.

My issue here is that when Eamonn left, they could have brought in someone lesser tenured or known in the industry, but they didn't. They brought in Dermot, who is a great actor, but I'm sure not CHEAP.

SO it's hard to say things like I'm getting rid of two actors, one who is well tenured on the show and another who you all just made a series regular THIS season due to budget constraints when your previous actions do not align with said budget constraints.

Also S12 we lost 3 series regulars. Two of which were WELL tenured so if that didn't free up quite a bit of capital from those 3 losses then again one would start to think that it's time to start making a tougher decision on how long this show can be sustainable.

I don't know too many shows that can lose the number of key players Chicago Fire has in such a short period of time and continue to be successful. It's unprecedented.

I think regarding who makes the decisions, there are a lot of factors that go into it. A showrunner can write a character out pretty much at will if it fits their "vision" for the show/storyline and the actors' contract. I'm sure the production company & network also influence such decisions from a cost perspective & they probably lean on the creatives to come up with ways to "shake things up" so that they can cut cost.

I guess my question then becomes at what cost? I want this show to run for 20+ years because it has the foundation to do so however if they keep chipping away at the core element that made this show a hit i rather they prepare us for a final season & go out on top. Rather than dragging this out and making it damn near unbearable to digest! Are we seriously going to rotate through a bunch of floaters on 81 for the first half of the season, especially if they don't bring Kylie back?

I understand people come & go but this feels like so much change within a short period of time. It feels like whiplash. What's the point of getting comfortable with a character when they could be gone after one season or worse gone without any notice at the end of a season.

That news article caught EVERYONE off guard, and honestly, it sort of feels like it caught the damn actors off guard to that their contracts wouldn't be renewed.

My favorite depends on which story I'm more interested in at the moment. The three options are a bastardization arc, a re-humanization arc, and a dehumanization arc. If you've read Blood and Songbirds and In The Interim, you can probably guess which is which.

As for foods, they all have one favorite dish from their home plane and one favorite New Capennan dish.

Jaren: His favorite Ravnican dish is actually his Aunt Judith's chocolate chip cookies. Yes, he has helped her escape the law in exchange for some. She could very well bribe the entire Boros Legion with those and it would be completely fine. His favorite New Capennan dish is actually a nice potato salad, because he's never gotten the chance to eat one back on Ravnica and it was the first New Capennan food he was introduced to (because Xander was trying to feed a dozen planeswalkers at a time).

Ritter: His favorite Ravnican dish is fondly called "the Exploding Izzet Cake", which is like our own planet's lava cakes or molten chocolate cakes. On New Capenna, he would absolutely kill someone without hesitation if he was promised macaroons for it, which our good pal Henzie "Toolbox" Torre has discovered. Luckily there has been no macaroon-influenced murders on record yet.

Mathias: He didn't get the chance to try too many Innistradi dishes given the whole "raised in captivity" thing, but upon his return trip for revenge (half-incited by Tibalt), he discovered he loves honey-glazed ham. He's more acquainted with New Capennan cuisine. His half-vampire half-demon nature means that he is immune to the evils of gelatin dishes (and thus actually ENJOYS those unholy abominations against cooking), and his favorite would be what we know as a Turkish delight (needless to say, it's called something different in New Capenna, because they don't have a Turkey).

Did I dig around in my own 1924 cookbook for ideas for the New Capenna side of this ask? Yes, yes I did. I get serious about food.

Not a lot on the first pass for me today - I feel like this puzzle had a lot of older trivia tidbits that I wasn't able to fill easily (as you can see in my lookup list). Maybe my head was just off, but it took me a while to start breaking into the puzzle and I never quite got into a groove. Different wavelengths between writer and solver, I can only assume.

Based on the title, I was expecting to see a time-based theme of some sort. The shaded boxes in the answers clearly indicated there would be a pattern among those squares, and I assumed time-related words. Clearly, I was not correct, but even after getting the revealer in the center the title did not click for a while. To be quite honest, I found the "feeling" words to be the weakest part of the theme; I don't feel like they added much beyond making it a little easier to chip away at the fill. However, some might argue that use case is the purpose of a theme, especially for newer solvers - again, different wavelengths.

As for the rest of the theme fill, I was pleased with the pairs of theme clues - I think it strongly reflected the core crossword skill of interpreting clues in multiple ways that's invaluable to solving weekend themeless puzzles. I also thought the theme clues were the most fun part of the puzzle, especially when I was able to grasp the two directions but needed more crosses to figure out what spot they went into.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the rest of the fill. It was... fine, but nothing particularly stood out to me as inventive or impressive. Also unhelpful were the 15+ trivia names/brands that held me up towards the end. I expect someone older than me may have enjoyed it more, many of the answers being more of their time, but there were a few too many "won't know that" skips.

This photo that came up in today’s Memories is from when the Hollywood, California band that I was in, The Loafin' Hyenas, played our first club gig at Raji’s, the epicenter of Hollywood underground bands at the time. I think this was 1988. At that point the band consisted of myself on vocals, former Cramps guitarist Click Mort, a wild cajun gal from Beaumont named Dionne Sparks (now Neva Trejo) on fiddle, & the former rhythm section from the band Blood on the Saddle, Ron Botelho on bass & Hermann Senac on drums. This is the lineup that recorded our first single “Scatter” (about Elvis’ chimpanzee) b/w “Move It!” (a reworking of one of my earlier songs from Tex & the Saddletramps days) that was one of the early releases from Long Gone John’s Sympathy For The Record Industry label (SFTRI 008).

And what a night it was. I don’t remember much from our performance, but I do remember who was there in the audience that night. In the second photo just to the left of the speaker cabinet (& darkly in the first photo) you can see original Gun Club bassist Rob "Graves" Ritter in sunglasses (yes, after dark AND indoors) sitting on the floor with his friend Tim Farris from the band Celebrity Skin. Rob was our favorite & the first bass player Click & I recruited for The Loafin' Hyenas & he jammed with us once when we were in the early stages of writing songs & putting the band together. But Rob was too busy at the time playing reunion gigs with 45 Grave & soon joining the band Thelonious Monster, to have enough time to devote to our project. He did return toward the end of The Loafin' Hyenas & contributed some beautiful bass lines to our only album, THE LOAFIN’ HYENAS on Patrick Mathè’s New Rose label out of France.

Also that night Click had invited his old bosses from The Cramps, Lux Interior & Poison Ivy Rorschach, who surprisingly showed up & crowded into the stuffy basement room at Raji’s where the bands played. I remember Lux pointing out in conversation afterwards in his humorous goofy manner, “Hey, we’re both lead singers with three letter names that end in ‘x’  Lux & Tex!”. I had invited Chip Kinman from Rank and File, a band that I admired & had opened shows for a couple of times back in Dallas at The Hot Klub, who also showed up.

The third photo is my still sweetie Karen Kritter & I in one of Raji’s booths. The final image is a flyer by Click Mort. Don't remember if this was the same night. But it would make sense since Lux produced the first Mad Daddy's LP...
