i love how well sam-dal and yong-pil's relationship is set up, them being exes truly feels so secondary to everything else that they are, to the point you might even forget they ever dated. the feeling of watching an old childhood friend who you don't talk to simply because you live a different life from is so poignant.

wait, i just realized that yongpil and samdal never explicitly said i love you to each other throughout the drama and yet, we know how much they love each other and never stopped.

i mean, in a way, they said it in different ways like:

cho samdal: ever since i was born, i've only leaned on you, and my heart only raced for you. the 23-year-old samdal is someone i can only be in front of you, so how could i like someone else?

and...

cho yongpil: what if i missed you and wanted to see you so much that i tried to remember your face but couldn't remember it? you mean so much to me. i didn't want to be without you for a single moment in my life. that's why i didn't forget about you.

i don't know... i may be rambling at this point because it's 1 am or the sleep deprivation is making me remember things differently but i liked these confessions more

About Songdo, yes, he is very out of line by referring to Samdal as something that Yongpil stole from him, 🚩 behaviour, but honestly this kind of resentment towards Yongpil was coming from miles away and Samdal is just the tip of the iceberg. AND the situation is more nuanced than one may think.

Since the beginning of the series everyone casually mentions Songdo as someone who was poor and everyone was so nice to him, see: Samdal commenting many times how she always defended him, his own mother saying Yongpil always gave him his toys to play. His now favourable economic position, symbolised by the expensive car, is sometimes lightly made fun of, (which is fine! They’re friends) and Samdal is quick to say with the familiarity of old friendship “give me a ride remember how I was always there for you”. And let’s be honest, Yongpil is rightfully, (deservedly!) the town’s most beloved son, everyone loves him and wishes the best for him. I can imagine Songdo’s mother treating Yongpil especially nice ever since his mother died. … but let’s see it from Songdo’s eyes. Everyone was so nice to you, and you had to be fine with being the only one who didn’t leave the island in hopes for a better future. Your hard work is appreciated, yes, but taken from granted by your own family because you have a brother who’s selfish and terrible for the both of you. You did the best with the cards you were given, but deep down you think everyone prefers Yongpil, who is so talented, he should have gone to work in Seoul, who is so sad, he lost the girl he loved. Everyone seems to cheer for Yongpil to the point you wonder if it’s okay for you to wish for things, and the one time you tell yourself “no, this time I’ll try, I won’t be nice”, the universe and your mum tell you you stand no chance, it was always going to be Yongpil. Come on, you guys really think it’s only about Samdal, or only about the best toys and being class president? It’s the culmination of all the tiny hurts he received because he always had to settle and he was never praised like Yongpil for, for example, staying in samdal. His behaviour is not correct, and Yongpil doesn’t deserve the resentment, but Songdo’s actions are very much understandable, his character is well-written. And I think he deserves some slack for being a bit of an asshole for the first time in 30 years of being a devoted son/friend

Yoon Jong-shin mentioned the casting of Cho Yong-pil for 'King of Singer'.

In the JTBC entertainment program 'New Festa', which was broadcast on the afternoon of the 14th, Jong-shin Yoon, Hee-yeol Yoo, Kyu-hyun, Gummy, and Sang-soon Lee discussed the festival lineup that they each thought of.

I’ve recently gotten into old Korean ballads my favorite singer being Shin Seung hun, do you know of anymore ballad singers from late 80’s early 90’s?

a headcanon about duri’s top three four most memorable moments as an idol.

word count: 984. about: yes, i cheated because i couldn’t pick just three moments, sue me. okay so basically, to save any from reading this (because lets be real, its definitely messy), this just talks about debuting in knight/knight’s debut, knight getting their first music show win, duri winning king of masked singer, and duri debuting as a soloist.

       the most obvious choice for his first most memorable moment as an idol would be debuting as a member of knight. but, on top of that, debuting as one of three main vocalists in knight. duri’s someone who didn’t have that long of a trainee period, where most people are stuck in the system for years on end; duri had gotten lucky in the end, something that he’s very aware of. he had come into being a trainee under bc entertainment after he had completed his military enlistment, in hopes of becoming an idol, something that he had dreamed of for most of his life, to say the least. however, he thought that he would be a trainee for a while, probably not seeing debut for a while. there was even thoughts that he wouldn’t debut in a group, something that he wanted so bad, and would instead end up debuting simply as a soloist. sure, he’d still get to sing and get on stage, but he looked forward to that experience you’d get in a boy group (though, he didn’t except his group members to have constant scandals, but he doesn’t blame them for such; they’re humans.) though, he’d find himself getting lucky when he’d debut as the first main vocalist of knight after the short time span of training; he most likely got in on his vocals alone, but he worked really hard on dancing. some say he got in on visuals as well, but bc entertainment seemed to reject solo visual work for duri, causing insecurity to form deeper inside him, but that’s not that conversation right now. taking part in pre-debut songs, recording the debut mini album, filming the debut music video, and getting up on stage at a music show are incredibly memorable moments for him; the things that he holds so near to his heart. 

 since knight had seemingly gone on hiatus for a whole year until 2013; there was fear that maybe they were done, that the dream these boys held would be over. mama didn’t even do that bad, considering they did find themselves getting nominations and wins for mama and as a group themselves. however, it still was a fear that really scared duri and he could remember often getting upset that they didn’t have more music coming their way; even though they were successful, maybe bc entertainment just didn’t see anything else of potential in them? maybe they were seemingly bored of a knight they had created? however, about a year later, the comeback for knight would come in the form of “wolf.” not the greatest song, of course, with duri feeling a bit weird running around pretending to be wolves in the song. but, on june 14th, 2013, knight would see their very first music show win with the song. duri remembers it happening very clearly, considering the beat out a legend, cho yongpil, for first place. this was also a day that duri cried pretty hard, especially on stage afterwards, as it solidified his dream of being an idol, and the fact that knight are a force to be reckoned with in one way or another. sure, music show wins don’t matter, but it was a nice feeling to know that his fears were untrue in the long run. 

it was something that had come completely unexpected to duri, to say the least. going onto king of masked singer wasn’t something that was shocking to him, it was obvious that bc entertainment wanted to show him off in a solo light, especially before his solo debut outside of knight. especially after getting the love call from the pds after a special stage that he did. they wanted to hype it in a way, show him off. sure, they had the osts, but they were hoping for more on the show. nonetheless, it’s a sweet memory, especially because he had a lot of fun going up on stage to sing with a mask on. he was almost pretty sure they’d know, but he may have also hid his voice pretty well, just so they wouldn’t be able to guess that it was him. however, the unexpected came, when duri would beat out the reigning campion, a musical actor. at this point, he solidified himself as a rather good singer; even if he would lose by the next appearance to a professional vocalist. it still showed that idol vocalists are still incredible at what they do, and it made him be taken seriously as a singer. winning such a big show, especially when it’s hard for idols to do so, is a memory that he won’t ever forget. 

the final memorable moment as an idol for duri, is himself debuting solo. he thought that debuting as a soloist was something that was far out, something that perhaps bc entertainment wasn’t going to do quite yet. but, in just about knight’s seventh year, duri received his solo debut on january 14th, 2019. getting the news a while prior, really made him be filled with joy, especially because he was getting to show off some of his own writing for the album. duri really, really loves knight, and they truly paved his way to be able to debut as a soloist; but, he simply wanted to do it to show off a different side of himself. one that knight doesn’t let him do, because he doesn’t get to write many songs for the group - but, he tends to get to write as much as he wants for his solo stuff. the icing on top of the cake is that he knew people wanted to listen to his songs when he would receive a music show win eight days after his solo debut. it’s something that had simply helped boost his confidence in some way and that first album, WINTER, is the sweetest memory to him.
