I’ve been reading the new Robert Galbraith novel, The Ink Black Heart, pretty much non stop. It has 1272 pages and I plan on finishing it as soon as possible.
“It wasn’t that he saw the truth of Charlotte in that instant, because he’d come to believe that there was no single, static truth about any human being, but he understood, once and for all, that something he’d taken to be true wasn’t. He’d always believed – had had to believe, because if he couldn’t believe that, what on earth was he doing, going back to the relationship over and over again? – that however damaged and destructive she was, however prone to generating mayhem and inflicting pain, they shared a similar core, where certain inalienable principles lived. In spite of all evidence to the contrary – her malice and destructiveness, her craving for chaos and conflict – he’d cleaved romantically to the idea that her childhood, which had been every bit as disrupted, chaotic and, at times, frightening as his own, had left her with a desire to refashion her corner of the world into a saner, safer, kinder place. And now he saw that he’d been entirely wrong. He’d imagined her own vulnerability meant an instinctive rapport with other vulnerable people“

Goodbye 2022
@notetaeker, thank you for this chance to reflect! You did not write too much at all - it was a pleasure getting to know you <3
What are things you've grown to like this year?
Self-care and feminine habits. I thought I was putting up with the hobbies and interest of my partner (e.g styling my outfits), as well as self-care items such as maintenance cleaning, meal-planning, washing my face, and drinking less coffee. My younger self firmly believed in mind over matter and that she could work tirelessly without any complicated sustenance.
Yet, after a full burn-out during the summer, I decided that life was not for me. Suffering is not poetic, and I'd rather be here as my best self, not my half self.
What are things you've learned this year?
I've learned that my relationship with family remains complicated. That my patience and tolerance for physical pain was higher than expected, and that I (still) have a passion for strength training. But also that true love may be real.
What works did you enjoy this year, be it films, books or other art?
Books: My Brilliant Friend and The Story of A New Name (Elena Ferrante); She Drives Me Crazy (Kelly Quindlen aka @littleoases !); Iron Widow (by @xiranjayzhao )
Movies: Knives Out & Glass Onion; Kimetsu no Yaiba (anime), Legally Blond; First Kill (cancelled series, thanks Netflix >:((((( ); and finally, Goncharov
Other art: Round Table (Contemporary Art by Choe U Ram); The End of All Things (Maximilian Pirner); Hard Lacquer (posted on dlacquercomic, by @mimiadraws !)
Is there something you're still looking forward to this year?
Recovering from illness.
What would you like to see happening next year?
Me finally getting that pull-up, more strength, more academic validation, more genuine love, death to corrupted politicians and predators, me seeing my family again and my best friend being genuinely happy, the stop of Russian invasion on Ukraine, peace for Iranians, recognition of undermined women, and many more things this world would need.
Tagging: @purplelakeinthewoods, @just-a-cup-of-anxietea, mod @libarygoldfish, and anyone who is comfortable to share!

If you like Sun Yuan and Peng Yu’s “Can’t Help Myself”, you should check out “If I Died” (specifically at the St. Regis), “Teenager Teenager”, “Freedom”, and “Dear” by the same artists. As well as “Round Table” by Choe U-Ram!
:3 thank you may I had a lot of fun looking them over when I woke up. I’m not like a fancy shmancy art guy but conceptual art and satirical commentary are sooo coolsss 2 me 🦅 I really like If I Died because it’s so pretty all the animals and the oceanic mantaray especially with the frame of such a luxurious bg (st.regis specific ofc) and round table it’s soooooo cool... it has so many different media forms in one place which always rlly amazes me like. The weaving of straw, having to learn the mechanics for their movements, having to know the physics for the ball to roll perfectly, as well as needing sucha creative out look on life even when the commentary its on can be so draining. I rlly like moving pieces like that it takes a lot of knowledge it’s rlly like, they think abt every aspect of the piece to make sure it works but they also leave out every aspect of its meaning. There’s so much to it and also nothing to it (in a good way) that it makes you realize “wow life sucks if I am able to apply a story to this” (very cool and thought provoking). Also i looked at sun yuan and peng yu’s profolio again and I like “occasional awakening” a lots as well

The mesmerizing works of U Ram Choe spoke to me deeply. His kinetic art sculptures ring the question: what is alive and what is not? The details in his works shows the level of craftsmanship and time that was put into them. His flower chandelier had such an organic look to it. Aesthetically pleasing, organic, but 100% mechanical. His pieces confuse the brain and questions the perception. His works are great examples of art and technology (sculpture and mechanical engineering) coming together. He also talks about working with his group, and that working as a group can produce a much greater outcome. The process of engaging in making one thing with a group, is very important. Now that most artist are interested in creating individual works, it is very special when artists come together to create a single big project. I guess in a way a lot of eye catching and influential arts are made by groups of artists.
