Chicago Fire Season 2 Ep. 8 "Rhymes with Shout"

After helping her sons accept their father's death, Casey says goodbye to Heather and the boys, who are moving to Florida. Dawson also struggles with a new paramedic who is overly sensitive and talks too much. Severide tries to be friends with his new sister, Katie. Cruz and Zoya take their relationship to the next level as her visa is about to expire. Isabella wants to be with Mills and buys his tuxedo to take him to a political dinner. After their shift, Otis and Severide go back to their apartment and find it has been ransacked, especially Shay's room. Casey thinks about his feelings for Dawson.

Dawson helps Casey clean the guest room where the Darden boys stayed. They both agree it's bittersweet. Casey wants to hang out alone, since she's been so helpful. But Dawson says no. She reminds him they've been there before.

Cruz and his brother Leon walk in their neighbourhood when shots ring out. A girl, Yvette, is hit by a drive-by shooting. Chicago PD detectives Voight and Lindsay arrive and promise to find the shooter. It's not much comfort, given Voight's history with Firehouse 51.

At Severide and Shay's apartment, Otis and Devon bond over nerdy memorabilia. He listens closely to the price of a Battlestar Galactica helmet, but Otis hears something bigger: Shay's announcement that she's leaving. They can't believe it, and neither can the station. That is, until Boden introduces Shay's new rookie, Alan Chout. Zoya is moving back to Russia.

Boden goes back to his office and finds McLeod there. She confronts him about his refusal to step down and promises to close 51 and bury Boden. Boden asks Mouch to ask the union president for help. Mouch asks his old enemy for help with 51. Sullivan won't help, but Mouch threatens to expose an affair. Sullivan agrees to an injunction against McLeod, a temporary victory for the station.

A major traffic accidents tests Chout's courage and he fails. He hesitates at the wrong time while Dawson and Casey narrowly escape a blaze. Chout's personality bothers Dawson again when she saves a stabbing victim with household items. This makes her think about Shay. Guilty about the transfer, Dawson asks Casey for advice. He says he'd be lost without her. Dawson doesn't ignore the compliment.

Isabella gets Mills to go to a black tie event. He enjoys the chance to meet again. But she introduces Mills as her boyfriend to an African American senator. Mills says she used him to join the senator's campaign. Isabella says it was innocent. Mills takes a cab home alone.

Casey is upset when Voight comes to the station to talk to Cruz about the shooting. The plice know the Insane Kings are behind it, but they need someone on the inside to break the case. Someone like Cruz's brother Leon could help. Cruz doesn't want to help until Voight says Leon was involved in a fire and the death of a gang leader. Detective Lindsay says Yvette, the young girl, died in the hospital. Cruz has no choice but to have his brother join the gang again.

Severide meets Katie, his new half-sister, a culinary student with big dreams. He asks if she'll cook for the station. She agrees but never shows up. Severide confronts her at the restaurant. Katie says she's sorry. She says Benny disappeared for most of her life and she doesn't want to get into another family mess. Severide understands, but he reminds her that he's not her father. Katie thinks about what he said.

At Molly's, a sad Cruz drinks. Zoya joins him and complains about her future. He proposes! It seems impulsive, but this way she can stay in the States and he doesn't have to lose another loved one. Zoya agrees.

Severide and Otis return to their apartment to find it trashed and their valuables stolen. Severide finds Shay crying in her room. She gave Devon a key to the apartment. Shay's at rock bottom.

Dawson sits at home, antsy, wondering if she should call Casey. She decides not to and puts on a sexy dress and heads out the door, where Casey is seconds from ringing the bell. They kiss without saying anything.

I had a dream one night about Chicago Fire, more specifically Brettsey. The whole house was at a wedding of some friend from the white space. Not sure how they all knew this person, but they did. (I’ve determined I wanted it to be Chout and a kindergarten teacher named Emily) I watched this happen like we were watching an episode, I wasn’t there “in it.” During the reception, the best man & Maid of Honor kept talking about how they knew they were each other's" the one” and all of the signs were there. At this point, the speeches were background noise and the "camera" was mostly focusing on Brett contemplating all of her life choices. Like an epiphany. Brett realizes what she needs to do. She needs to drop everything to make things right with Casey. At the end of the speech she walks over to Boden with a blank stare on her face like she saw a ghost and tells him she needs to go to Oregon.

In order to create a storyline, the song" Love Will Lead You Back", by Taylor Dayne completely spoke to me.

A 1001 Ballets to See Before You Die

40. “Chout”

“Chout” or in English "The Tale of the Buffoon who Outwits Seven Other Buffoons” is the first ballet that renowned composer Prokofiev completed. Which is why it earns a spot on this list. 

However the story is quite dark, based upon an old Russian folktale by the same name. Veering wildly from over the top slapstick to disturbing scenes of violence, it’s inconstant tone and taboo subject matter has not made it very popular. 

The story involves seven buffoons who all murder their wives after being told by an eighth buffoon that he has killed his own wife and brought her back to life with a magic whip and promises to do the same for them. When he fails to deliver on his promise, the other buffoons seek revenge. The principal buffoon is forced to disguise himself as a woman and is chosen for marriage by a wealthy merchant. He escapes after swindling the merchant out of 300 roubles.

If you like black comedies or uncensored grim fairy tales this might be for you. But be fore warned there is assault, attempted rape, mass murder of several women, and hints of bestiality all played for laughs. Though modern productions like this one shoehorns in a happy ending that reverses some of the more disturbing elements.
