every so often i rewatch the dark knight trilogy and it makes me laugh how it spawned The Gritty Dark Superhero Genre™ when, the way i see it, it’s not even trying to not be funny. bruce wayne’s first line is a wisecrack, everyone loves shitting on him (especially the man who raised him), he never gets the girl, his house burns down, he goes through about four different existential crises, he is a canon college dropout, and when he shows up from his seven-year gap adventure and decides to start talking nonsense about wanting to be ~*a symbol*~, people just... go along with it? be serious. and these are the films that spawned no jokes and the death of movie lighting?
