A couple of weeks ago I organized these beads and found some perfect ones for my cottagecore collection. Sometimes when I buy beads at yard sales or thrift stores or even online they're just all mixed together in a big bag and completely unorganized. We in the jewelry making world like to call this "bead soup". I spent about an hour just relaxing and organizing this big bag of bead soup the other day and found some really cool beads in it, but my favorites are those green and purple ones down in the right corner. They're exactly the right colors for my cottagecore collection! I really love organizing and sorting bead soup is a great mindful distraction from my symptoms like pain too. Not to mention I discovered beads i didn't know I had and it looks so nice when it's all done compared to when I start. Does anyone else love organizing? What are your favorite beads in this photo? Art by @ashton.creates The main thing I want my jewelry to remind you is that you are never alone in your struggles, especially with chronic illness and mental health. Even if we don't share the same diagnoses I can promise you that someone somewhere has experienced the same thoughts and feelings you have, even the bad and scary ones. That always brings me comfort and I hope that it brings you comfort too. It means we are able to find community and support from people who truly get it, and I think that's one of the most important things to have when you're going through something really tough. "Pro" tip for fellow chronically ill small business people: Do what you can ahead of time to make things as easy as possible for yourself when you pack orders. For me this isn't too time-consuming, because I don't get a whole lot of orders, so I like to pack up 10 bubble mailers in advance with everything except the jewelry and box. They typically last me about 5 months before I have to do it again. I do recommend this if you can do it. Pack your mailers or boxes with business cards, your packing materials like bubble wrap or tissue paper, marketing materials (I have printed thank yous and business cards that I include), and any bonus gifts. Then when you are ready to ship an order all you have to do is add the items that were purchased, maybe wrap them up with bubble wrap and/or tissue paper, seal it, and print a shipping label. Another thing that I do to be ready for orders in advance is to stamp a bunch of kraft paper jewelry boxes with bees and then add washi tape, on days when I'm feeling up to doing just a little. Before I did these things ahead of time it sometimes took me a whole week to finish packing and shipping an order. Now I can do it in a day or two. It saves so much energy on days when I am packing orders. I hope this tip might help some of you in the future.
