Leaf beetles part 7: cucumber beetles and friends

Relatively simple designs but very pleasing beetles :]

as far as super common bugs go Chrysolina bankii is an old reliable, the perfect find if you want to hold a shiny little black thing for a bit, to see your distorted reflection on its elytra, or simply to go "oh hey it's C. bankii season again". if you don't want to do any of that, they'll show up anyway. they love to show up

you can also get them to stare back at you if you want. this elicits no response because their eyesight probably sucks but the option is there

hello my dears... a quick post today... it seems bugblr likes colourful beetles so heres a smol pretty leaf beetle from (Heteraspis sp.) i saw it beside a road

on flower bud... common species of leaf beetle with colours that pop out when shot

small. shiny. colourful. goofy looking face. nice punctation too

Here's an even wartier little leaf beetle, Chlamisus smaragdinus, in all its tiny metallic glory! Definitely a fun sculpting experience. I'm still pretty new to polymer clay so I'm excited by how much I'm learning through making these little guys. Now up on my website with the other warty leaf beetles! And as always.....

fulcidacinin warty leaf beetles mimic debris, and often bear a striking resemblance to the little barrel-shaped frass pellets caterpillars leave. they’re already quite lumpy and round but can retract all their appendages into little niches to really appear like a turd.

if you look up close, though, they’re wonderfully metallic and bear a curious zipper-like edge to their elytra

if you still don’t believe that this is a living animal, here it is with the legs extended. I’d have better pictures, but the little shit stayed rolled up for 30 minutes straight but of course I take 2 minutes to try to get photos of some flies and it walks way deep into the weeds.

I want my first bug here to be one of my favourites, Aproida balyi, also known as a very polite lady, as seen here:

there is currently no common name for these guys, and from what I understand they are the only species of the tribe Aproidini/genus Aproida (they fall into the family Chrysomelidae, aka leaf beetles). they are only found in subtropical Eastern Australia. their carapace is the most vibrant green, with a lot of dents and texture!

I tried to challenge myself today by drawing a Fulcidax (Chrysomelidae), which is not an easy subject. Not a wasp, but I've always thought this beetle was unique and interesting. I did my best based on available resources. Drawn mostly with coloured pencils, white gel pen and a bit of marker.

Besouro-das-folhas-de-paropsina-pontilhada, o Paropsis atomaria é um besouro comum da subfamília Chrysomelinae. O nome específico, atomaria , significa "manchado" ou "sardento". Esta espécie é encontrada no leste da Austrália, de Adelaide a Brisbane.
