Coming back onto tumblr as my main social media site and realizing how bad the fast-paced algorithm-driven nature of all the other big social media sites was for my mental health. How the constant need to create new things and post new posts was sending me to the brink of quitting being online because I couldn’t keep up. How everyone could reach me at any time and how that was driving me to the brink of walking into the woods and becoming a swamp witch who came into town once a month to go to get more candles and go to Costco.

And now I’m here and I’m like… fuck it. I’ll figure it out. I’ve got my mutuals and my blorbos. We’ll figure something out.

Tumblr is a slow and ever dying hellsite and has been for so long that its status as that almost seems stable. It’s this lazy river in a dying landscape of the soulless capitalist Web 3.0 apocalypse. It’s looking out on a shrinking town in the countryside you know will be gone someday, but the land the town sits on will be here, still weird as ever, and for now you get to wave at your weird neighbours who live here with their blorbos.

It’s nice.

If tumblr goes away – which I doubt it will, despite the tizzy everyone is in lately – I dunno where I’ll go, but it won’t to anywhere like twitter.

yess!!! all of the dialtown genders you coin (usually requested by yours truly) go directly into my hoard, plus the genderfont for wash your hands (randy font :3) and tons more! i use basically anything you make that i likez its always been so cool to me that anyone can coin basically anything as a gender. genderplushie, genderstuffed, genderfilled, genderdownloaded, are all valid ideas, and you coming up with so many more is such a cool thing to do! i always love seeing the new genders and gendersystems and templates and all of that jazz!

“To deserve...?” The word rests weirdly on Hecate’s tongue. She understands the concept of deserving—that misdeeds, failure in missions, failure to comply with orders, deserve punishment. That certain actions bear certain consequences. Equivalency. Retribution. That is what it means to deserve.

Sinners, for example, deserve to live at the MBCC—because they are Sinners, and the act of being, as a Sinner, is deserving. Sinners who have done wrong by trying to escape the MBCC deserve Adjutant Nightingale’s disapproving stare over the edge of her clipboard, and to be leaded with the bullets from the muzzle of her gun. Anyone who disrespects or disobeys the Chief of the MBCC, the shackles that bind them all, deserves... Deserves, well... For Hecate to choose not to be so gentle.

The idea of deserving another person is—something she’s still trying to wrap her head around. She can’t understand it. Can a person be punishment? But people, in and of themselves, can’t hurt people the same way that actions can, that a punishment can. Or can they? Perhaps, it is when people become so inextricably tied to their actions that neither can be divorced from the other—a person becomes what they’ve done, and what they’ve done becomes the person. ... Perhaps it is the same case as with being a Sinner. Perhaps it is the same case as with being Hecate, with Hecate inflicting her presence upon Chameleon. ... See? It’s not so hard when you try to understand.

But she’s only now reached the most perplexing part of this equation. Hecate, herself, has never truly wanted punishment—though she understands responsibility and taking responsibility for her actions. So when she fails, she understands—she deserves punishment. But she’s never wanted it.

Chameleon is making her head spin, and not in a very good way. Her chest fills, for a moment, with some overwhelming sensation she can’t identify (it is pity, she realises later—an emotion she is often unfamiliar with, but does present itself, once every so often). Poor Chameleon. Somehow wanting punishment. Trying to deserve it. Hecate can’t understand. But that’s not weird anymore. More often than not, Hecate can’t understand Chameleon at all. Chameleon is wise beyond Hecate’s wildest dreams, and knows things Hecate could not begin to imagine. It’s almost relieving—a return to form—to realise that, in the end, no matter how she thinks and thinks, she’ll always arrive at the same place she started: Hecate can’t understand what Chameleon means. She wonders if she ever will.

That doesn’t make her any less perplexed, though.

“Why?” Muted, but genuine surprise flits across her face. Confusion. That same chest-squeezing sensation from earlier. “You don’t have to try to deserve me. I’m already here.”

So, as I'm sure we all know, family is a very important thing when it comes to HIVE. It's the main theme, and there's all sorts of different families shown too. Found family, estranged family, family getting cut off (AKA getting murdered), and even a few healthier dynamics here and there.

With that being said, I recently discovered something that's actually very significant to a character and his connection with his family (or lack thereof I suppose) that I don't think I've seen anyone else talk about.

Before I get into this I do apologize if none of this makes sense. My thoughts are Everywhere and I'm writing this in one sitting so bear with me. I'll also be putting this under a read more bc idk if posts get condensed in tags and this will get Long.

We all know Wing is the only character actually born into the last name Fanchu, and likely the only person ever in-universe. The name is a mashup of two other Chinese surnames (Fan and Chu), and while this could just a creative choice on Mark's end to give a character an iconic name, I think it holds a lot of significance with the whole family and ESPECIALLY Wing.

One significant thing taken from this is that the last name being made up works so well with the family and how they came to be! Wu Zhang and Xiu Mei Chen never intended to start a family, they just happened to unfortunately be at the wrong place at the wrong time and needed to find safety. Fanchu could very easily just be a name made up on the spot by one of them (listen idk how practical that would be okay). Two characters come together to create a family that shouldn't exist, and the surname they use is one that doesn't exist!

Speaking of things that shouldn't exist, Wing was never meant to be born. If Project Overlord had gone as planned, he wouldn't have existed at all. Hell, it's very likely that his parents weren't even planning to have a kid (though you'd think these two geniuses would know about protection but hey whatever). Wing's birth was an accident, basically, in many ways.

So we have a kid who should've never existed, born into a last name that was likely completely made up! Symbolism, baby! Now yes, I could definitely be looking way too deep into this, but hey that's the fun of these books! It's not HIVE if there isn't an insignificant detail that's actually super interesting when you think too much about it.

Anyways that's all I can think about ATM when it comes to this topic but feel free to add on! I'm sure most of you know just how much I love this damn family and I am CRAVING content.
