I’m making bread for the first time and I have no idea why it’s been so terrifying of an experience so far.

Well, that’s a lie. I’m very inexperienced in making baked goods of any sort that isn’t a lasagna. I’m terrified I’m doing everything wrong.

I spent the past three days immersed in music with @theechosociety — a musical deep dive into the theme of FAMILY, nestled in the Paramore Estate, Los Angeles. This picture sums up what the weekend felt like - warm, welcoming, vulnerable, beautiful togetherness. I openly wept three times yesterday, listening to pieces by @frozen_light & @danromer and playing @natronica 's piece The Fog Of Memories, the best song (in any genre) that I've heard in a long, long time. Here, audience and performers join at the end of the show to sing Pauline Oliveros' Tuning Meditation together. Unity solidified through music. Performing and composing for this has been a gift. I’ve finally scanned in the majority of my sketchbooks. I’m so happy.

Of course, it also reminded me about the time I tried too hard to be a homestuck fan I even made a bad fantroll because that was the hip thing to do at the time.

tbh, I wouldn’t have made it if I hadn’t hung around people who actually did invest their time into making more fan material. I did the occasional drawing, but I feel like, even when I try to remember what I felt about the comic, I didn’t really feel much for the series overall. It was more like, the people around me liked it, so I decided to like it, too.

Huh, no wonder I don’t really trust most of my interests.

One week from tonight I'll be performing my newest piece of music, a site specific composition called Who Is In The Room? as part of @theechosociety 's latest show VI - FAMILY. An immersive show in a storied Los Angeles mansion where the barriers between audience and performers are thin or disappear altogether. I'll be performing alongside the work of many other composers I deeply admire, all of whom are digging deeply to find a place of intimacy around the idea of family; it's going to be quite a weekend.
