This photograph of the ruined battlefield near Festubert was taken in the spring of 1919. The Canadians fought at Festubert in May 1915, but no official photographers accompanied them to the front. The ground still shows the scars from the heavy fighting four years after the battle.

Thank you to tumblr @puppylove007 for directing me to this photo.
Charlie Chaplin with actor Leslie Stuart Jr circa 1919, autographed 'To Leslie Stuart, from your sincere admirer Charlie Chaplin.’ then inscribed 'To Father from Leslie'. His father also Leslie (1863-1928) was an English composer of Edwardian musical comedy I'm sure Charlie became familiar with his work touring the English music halls in his youth.
This photo along with over 500 more of some of the greats of the silent era went up for auction selling for approx. $3500. The photos many of them candid were taken by Stuart Jr or, show him with actors, novelists, screen writers etc of the day.

“For so long I’ve been silenced inside. Thoughts feelings, desires, good times & bad times. How can I bring myself to forget you? It seems as if you were here yesterday.”
“Dreams of mine are only when I see you, that’s the best part, yet so haunting. I love to get lost in the blissful scenes where I see your face, but hate to wake up and remember your not in my space.”
“I try to convince myself to not think of you and your muse. “Just know I’ll always love you, I hope you know that too.” “Till I close my eyes and drift off to soundful sleep, I’ll see you once again in my dreams."

Top two photos Douglas Fairbanks and Charlie Chaplin, bottom brother Sydney Chaplin and Harry Lauder, 1919.
Sydney Chaplin along with pilot Emery Rogers founded the Syd Chaplin Airline Co. in 1919. The corporation lasted only one year. Charlie took his first ever airplane ride in one of Syd’s airplanes.

Very cool photo taken at a demonstration in Jerusalem against the partition of Ottoman Palestine (as per the Sykes-Picot agreement initiating the British Mandate) circa 1919. The protesters didnt demand a "free palestine" or an independent state, but rather to remain part of Syria (as per the sign theyre holding), as they didnt see themselves as anything other than Syrian. Not a single ""traditional""" black and white kuffiyeh in sight. No PLO flags. No 'Palestinian' national identity. Just Syrians.
