[EN] 📷 Today’s photo shows Lake Mamry – calm, still cold, but alive. And since it’s Śmigus-Dyngus, also known as Wet Monday… let’s talk about water. Not the bucket kind, though.

💧Few people remember that this day isn’t just about kids with water guns and soaked socks. It’s rooted in an ancient, pre-Christian ritual of cleansing, fertility, and the awakening of life after winter.

Long before the Church adopted it and added it to the Easter calendar, Slavs and other old cultures splashed water to wash away winter’s death, to attract health, fertility, and abundance. Young women were often the focus – not for fun, but out of belief that water could bring love, children, and vitality.

Back then, water was sacred, like blessed fire or salt. A symbol of life. Of spring's return. Of the rain that wakes the soil.

The custom was so deeply rooted that Christianity couldn’t erase it – it simply baptized it. And now we’re left with this strange holiday where kids splash each other for fun, and adults say: “It used to mean something.” Maybe back then… they just knew what they were doing.

💧Mało kto dziś pamięta, że Lany Poniedziałek to nie tylko dzieciaki z pistoletami na wodę i mokre skarpety. To starożytny, przedchrześcijański rytuał oczyszczenia, płodności i budzenia życia po zimie.

Zanim Kościół przejął ten dzień i wpisał go w świąteczny kalendarz, Słowianie i inne ludy oblewali się wodą, by symbolicznie zmyć zimową martwotę, przyciągnąć zdrowie, urodzaj i płodność. Zwłaszcza młode kobiety były polewane – nie dla zabawy, ale z wiarą, że to pomoże w miłości i przyszłym macierzyństwie.

Woda była wtedy święta, jak dziś święcony ogień czy sól. Symbol życia. Wiosennej siły. Deszczu, który budzi ziemię.

Zwyczaj był tak mocny, że chrześcijaństwo go nie usunęło – tylko ochrzciło. I tak do dziś mamy ten dziwny dzień, w którym dzieciaki leją się wodą, a starsi myślą: "kiedyś to było lepiej". A może... kiedyś po prostu wiedzieli, po co to robią.

Cautionary Tale: provide Half-Clan kits with love and strong support when they are young, otherwise they may turn on you when they grow older. 

Story: 

Limpetkit never had a father. Eventually, he lost his mother as well. But he still had dreams. They were pretty dreams! He dreamt of a nice and safe forest, and even of friends! A grey cat who also didn't have a dad! A black and white cat who was really funny! When the other kits began calling him Cursekit, the grey cat comforted him while he cried. 

Mousestar, the leader, said that kits like him needed to be watched closely, and so took Limpetpaw as his own apprentice. And he wasn't half bad! But there was barely any fighting. Mousestar always made excuses. So, Limpetpaw asked the grey cat to teach him. 

The funny one would sometimes watch, and sometimes join! Teaching Limpetpaw how to negotiate, and what to say to different cats. How to ask someone out if he wanted to (he didn't, he was cool with that), how to break off a friendship, and most importantly, how to tell and keep secrets. The grey cat taught him the best fighting moves, how to fix his face, and how to see emotions! 

Mousestar made him a warrior late, a few moons after the other kits around his age became warriors. 

One night, at a gathering, the deputy of WindClan had some important news. WindClan and ShadowClan had a strong alliance back then, so Limpetsong agreed. Blizzardeye wanted to meet that night on the WindClan border. Through tears, Blizzardeye told him the story of how he fell in love with a beautiful ShadowClan cat, only for them to break apart when he became deputy. After that, he never saw her again. In his dreams, a bright orange cat revealed that he had a son. 

Limpetsong was Half-Clan. 

He went rigid. 

Cold. 

Keeping anger out of his face, he smiled. When he returned, he knew what to do. The next night, when he came to the place that was more of a home then ShadowClan had ever been, the grey cat told him the other half of the story. He told him how Burningtree saw his mother with Blizzardeye, how Mousestar exiled her, and how Stemsky drove her away....How Cloudydusk was dead. 

Limpetsong started his vengeance. 

Hey. Splashface. I saw Burningtree meet with this weird brown she-cat...

Yes, I'm sure it wasn't a ShadowClan cat. 

No, I'm not saying this just because Stemsky's apprentice died, how sad. 

They were on a patrol together? She just collapsed? Well, that sounds...no, he wouldn't. 

It's nothing, but...do you think that Stemsky would've... It all makes too much sense. 

No, you're right. We have to get rid of him. 

Mousestar's been sort of lazy, lately. He hasn't been on many patrols. He is getting old... 

The night before his death, the two cats he had spent so much time with finally revealed themselves. The Follower, and The Adder. He...he trusted them. He trusted them. And yet....

Snipvoice had been kinder to him than any ShadowClan cat had been. Finally confronting Mousestar the next day, he shouted for an explanation. But he wouldn't listen. 

The second Mousestar began slandering Cloudydusk, saying that she had shirked her duties for her WindClan mate, Limpetsong leapt. 

But Mousestar was quicker.

--The bright orange cat was Fizz! The RiverClan former rogue who organized the defeat of Claudrat. 

--Blizzardeye would've taken good care of Limpetsong, and was horrified when he heard what he had done. He didn't really want kits, but he would've wanted to be responsible for his actions. 

--Cloudydusk was sort of self centered, and didn't have a good reputation. That was the last straw for ShadowClan, who chased her out after she gave birth and revealed it was a Half-WindClan kit. She died alone, outside of the territory. 

--Claudrat and Snipvoice were given those names because of the reputation outside the Clans, which came about because of RiverClan's involvement.

Some of my ocs and their name reasons.

Antwave - His biological parents (/neg) gave him his prefix to remind him that “All of us are small and nothing compared to StarClan. He got his suffix because his presence had made waves in the WhistleWhisperClan (WhisperClan and WhistleClan function like a united states of two) and PartridgeClan relations, but the WhistleClan leader regretted nothing.

Breezefleck - Silentbrook, in the time before his death and after Flightcry discovered his allegiance to the legacy, felt like he was becoming more isolated. He gave his kits some interesting names. His suffix came from his pelt.

Cavecrawl - His parents had their nest under an overpass, which BayClan calls a ‘monster tunnel.’ In an incident which led to him getting his warrior name early, a group of apprentices went to explore some tunnels on the outskirts of BayClan territory. The entrance collapsed, and Cavepaw led the group back aboveground.

Coyotehoot - He had markings like a coyote that had attacked his mother when she was younger, and he caught an owl for his warrior assessment.

Firefeather - She had a bright orange pelt, and she was always good at the DayClan specific duties of a medicine cat. Dictating what prey should be left alone because it’s their mating season, predicting the storms, spotting sharks.

Goldenrue - He had golden speckles on his fur, and ‘rue’ was the favorite plant of his parents, and Driftstar, his father, gave him his warrior name.

Larkscar - His fur felt a bit like feathers, and he got a scar in a fight with a hawk as an apprentice.

Limpetsong - The name was given by his mother, Cloudydusk, after Blizzardeye told her a story about the sun-drown place. His suffix was given by his suggestion, he wanted to be named after Snipvoice, and with a little manipulation by a newly dead Ripperclaw, the leader gave him the song suffix.

Wrathscale/Caimanscale - His attitude was just like a pissed-off caiman, and he brought a caiman’s scale to camp to try and prove that he should be made a warrior early. The scale was given to him by his father.

Hey, I was hoping for some help naming an oc of mine. It’s the cat on the left and she is the sister of Moonspring (Cat on the right). To give some backstory she was prophesied to be a great cat and was born with star markings in her pelt, but something went wrong so she wasn’t the prophesied cat anymore, and the star marking changed to look kinda like they’re melting/ dripping. Meanwhile Moonspring became the prophesied cat and the spots in his pelt turned to stars (they used to just be spots). I think what I’m going to do is make her original prefix Moon, then it changed to something else, and Moonspring had a different prefix before it changed to Moon. But I can’t think of what her new prefix and suffix could be, I don’t want it to be anything to do with Sun, Day etc because I’ve already got cats with those prefixes and I want her to keep a dark/ night style prefix, if that makes sense. If you wanted to help, that would be wonderful!!

firstly, these two are very interesting and I love the idea of a cat losing their place in a prophecy [it's not seen often from what I can tell]

secondly, I can drop a couple possible names for this former prophecy gal and hopefully that they'll at least get you close to the perfect name for her!

Fallensky [ie similar to a dawn/dusk name, also would make her leader name Fallenstar if she ever became leader]

Specklesky / Dapplesky / Spottedsky [these also fit without having an exact time name]

Cloudydusk, Speckledusk, Shiningdusk, Shimmerdusk

Twilightheart, Twilightcoat, Twilightshine, Twilightdapple

Dusklight, Duskstone, Duskheart, Duskspot

also any name involving Shimmer or Shining, as those names to me often inspire the thoughts of stars in the sky at night???
