Asante Amin and Chen Lo discuss the role of the artist in education, the cultural traditions of African storytellers, and how they forsee their impact on future generations:

“I think, really simply put, stories and storytelling is the first technology. I think as complex or simple as a culture, a civilization is, the story is at the heart of it. That’s how it relates its values. It’s knowledge. In our tradition, and I think in many traditions, individuals, educators, and artists are tasked in taking high minded concepts, whether it pertains to astronomy, astrology, science, or math, and metaphorize those in really simple stories.”

Asante Amin is a gifted multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer who has travelled the world performing with The Gza, Blitz The Ambassador and Wynton Marsalis, Dead Prez, Third World, Raheem Devaughn and Mos Def among others. He is the co-founder of Soul Science Lab, a music and multimedia production company. Asante’ is a recipient of the Metlife “Meet the Composer” award.

Chen Lo is an accomplished musician, educator, entrepreneur and creative director. He is the co-founder of Soul Science Lab, a music and multimedia production company and Chief Creative for CodeScty, a company that uses original hip hop music to teach computer science. Chen holds a BA in Media Studies and an MA in Music Business & Tech, Art as Activism.
