I was running as hard and as fast as I could through the thick forest. I had no recollection of how I got here. The last thing I remember was going to bed, then suddenly I awoke surrounded by trees as far as my eyes could see. I wasn't even in the same clothes I went to sleep in. I was now in an off-white dress that stopped just above my knees, sprinting bare foot through the woods. I could hear voices around me, almost getting closer any time I would stop. It's like they were toying with me, forcing me to run any time I felt like stopping. My feet were on fire, most likely bleeding, but I couldn't stop. I knew that if I did, I would be done for.
I would have screamed out for help, but it almost felt as if doing that would draw attention to me; attention that would get me sooner killed rather than saved.
I squinted up ahead, a clearing coming into view. A huge dark grey building of some sort was getting closer. All I had to do was get to it and maybe I would be safe.
I prayed that this was a dream, and I would soon wake up, but as the cuts in my feet told me otherwise. This was no dream. This was real, and I just needed to keep going.
I finally rested against a tree for a moment right at the edge of the building's property. As I caught my breath, I realized this was no ordinary building - it was a castle. Stone walls rose high into the sky, tiny windows adorning the tops of the towers. The doors to the castle were unguarded, at least from the outside, and the big iron doors beckoned me in. Seeking shelter or help was my only option. I knew staying in the forest wasn't safe. But something in me churned at the thought of what could be beyond the castle walls.
I trudged over to the doors slowly, glancing around me. No one was in sight, and I couldn't hear anything from outside to indicate there was life inside. But there had to be.... right?
I grabbed the handle, pulling open the door with all of my might. Medal cranking noises sounded off, reverberating inside the room. I stepped in and closed the door, turning around. No one was there. Not even a whisper of a soul.
I walked up the carpet that led to a thrown, embellished in gold and black accents. The plush carpets felt amazing against my sore feet. I observed the massive room, noting the other doorways and stairs leading to who knows where else in the castle. The marble floor sparkled in the light coming in through the stained-glass windows. There were gorgeous paintings hanging along the walls, assumingly of past rulers. What was odd was how almost gruesome the paintings were - depicting beheadings and blood and gore. Not only that, but every single ruler had red eyes. Some even had blood dripping from their mouths.
One painting in particular caught my eye. It looked recent, and the man was sitting on the same thrown in this room. His was not as gruesome as the others, but something in his eyes was colder than all the rest. He didn't have to have the blood or gore to come across as scary. He just was. But his face... it looked eerily familiar to someone I knew. Someone that was my friend.
There was no way it could have been him. It had to be someone else.
"Hello, precious child." A voice rang out sinisterly, causing chills to run up my spine.
I spun around, my eyes landing on a man. He was tall with dark hair, and his clothing was formal and royal in dark blues and blacks. His eyes were almost neon red. His wicked smile gleamed in the light; fangs sharp as knives glaring back at me.
That couldn't be right...
"Boo." Another man's voice whispered behind me. I jumped, ready to scream, but a hand covered my mouth. An arm wrapped around me tightly, almost taking the air out of me as he squeezed. The person holding me laughed maniacally, finding it hilarious as I struggled against his hold. He was taller than me as well, and from the corner of my eye I could see his dark red hair hitting his shoulder as he held me.
"Now, now, Theo. You know how he will feel about us playing with our food." The man in front of me stated nonchalantly, slowly walking towards us.
"But Alek... she smells so good. It was so much fun chasing her outside," Theo snickered behind me. He pressed his nose against my neck, breathing in my scent deeply. "God, what I would do for a bite of her right now."
"I know it was, but you know what Samuel will say." Alek rolled his eyes, placing his hands on his hips, "And not to mention what he'll tell the prince."
"Screw them both! We found her first. We get first dibs." Theo growled bitterly, gripping me harder.
"Her fear is palpable.... that makes her blood all the more yummy." Alek's eyes danced across my body, his gaze lingering on my neck. "I not only thirst for your blood, sweetheart, but you.... have made me lascivious."
"Fuck you!" I spat, thrashing forward in Theo's arms.
Alek reeled back and slapped me, my face almost slamming into Theo's shoulder. "What a depraved mouth on such a tiny, little thing. For that alone I should drain you dr-"
"Are you two done yet? Because it is exhausting hearing you speak sometimes." Another voice cut through, sounding all too familiar.
All our heads turned towards one of the entrances. Standing there in all his glory, was Sam. My friend. But he looked... very different. He was a vampire, much like Theo and Alek. His hair was slicked back, and his clothing was similar to theirs, except in red and black with silver accents. His eyes were on me, but there was no sign he knew who I was.
My eyes widened at the sight of him, my breath hitched in my throat. "S-Sam?"
He cocked his head, raising an eyebrow at my voice. "How informal of you." He glanced at Theo and Alek, "Release her."
Theo's arms dropped me, my body almost crashing to the floor. Sam suddenly appeared in front of me, his hands grabbing at my wrists. He kept me close as he looked into my eyes. He searched my face for something, but I couldn't tell what it was.
"What is your name?" He asked calmly.
I thought for a moment of saying it but held my tongue. I grimaced at him, remaining silent.
"Oh, so now the wench has no words?" Alek snapped, grunting behind me.
"If I were you, I would be more like her." Sam narrowed his eyes at them both, "You as well, Theo."
"What did we do?" Theo barked, whining.
He blinked, annoyed. "You had plans to hide her away and feast upon her. You know the rules. The prince gets first taste."
"But we hunted her down. We found her in the forbidden forest." Alek argued, his voice hanging like venom in the air.
"And you allowed her into the castle when you should have been standing guard. You let a human in just to be food. We do not run our kingdom like that anymore." He gazed over at Theo, his voice just as pointed, "And your little comment, Theo… you are lucky King Henrik is not around. That sass alone would have gotten you beheaded instantly."
"May he rest in peace." The men behind me mumbled.
Sam finally turned back to me, a polite smile that did not reach his eyes resting on his face. "Where are my manners? My apologies. We were having a conversation. Now again, what is your name?"
I turned my head away, not knowing what else to do.
Sam hummed, his one hand leaving my arm. He brushed a finger against my turned cheek, forcibly turning my head back to him. "I'm doing everything in my power to remain kind to you. Don't push your luck."
"Fuck. You." I whispered harshly, a quiet tear streaming down my face. I didn't even realize I was close to crying, or that tears had welled up at all.
"You have guts, sweetheart. Too bad those with guts are killed first." Sam spoke softly, but with a vicious tongue. "The prince will be here shortly. Hold her."
Theo and Alek each took an arm of mine, holding me tightly. I tried to shake them off, to no avail. In a loud booming noise, the doors behind the thrown opened widely. A tall man walked through; his head held high. His eyes narrowed at the sight of all of us. Royal garb adorned his body, all black with gold detailing. As my eyes fell upon his face, my mouth gaped at him. It was Colby.
"What the fuck?" I uttered, stunned.
"Is that the only word you know how to say?" Colby questioned coolly. He stopped in front of me, taking all of me in for a moment. "Ever since you stepped foot into my castle, all I've heard from that pretty mouth of yours is 'fuck'."
"Bow before the prince, harlot." Theo hissed.
They dropped me onto my knees, forcing me down. My knees banged against the marble floor, a wince falling from my lips.
Alek snickered, getting low and near my ear. "Right where all human women belong."
Alek suddenly began to choke, his hold and Theo's letting me go. I picked my head up to see Colby choking him, his hand tightening to an almost death grip around Alek's throat. He looked bored, glancing around the room unamused. "I am exhausted by the two of you and your crude comments. Not only did you hunt this poor girl for sport, but now you have left me with no other choice but to use my powers on her or take her life. Cleaning up your fuck ups is the last thing I want to be doing."
"But sir, she just-!" Alek gurgled out.
"Speak another word and I will snap your neck like a toothpick, so help me God. Do you understand me?" Colby's cold voice made the hairs on my body stand on end.
"Yes, Prince Cole." Both Alek and Theo nodded.
Colby released Alek, his attention turning back to me as if he hadn't just choked out a man. "Now.... let me get a good look at you."
He bent down, his hand cupping my face gently. His gentle touch surprised me, my eyes fluttering. He studied me, his striking blue eyes taking me in.
"How come your eyes are blue?" I inquired lowly.
I heard Sam let out a soft laugh, Theo and Alek remaining silent.
An almost smile came to his lips. "My eyes are only red when I'm hungry. But I also have a lot of strength so I'm able to hide when I am hungry."
"Are you... hungry?" I gulped.
"I knew the moment you stepped into my castle because of the cuts on your feet. So yes, I am very hungry, darling." He gazed directly into my eyes, a sort of playful tone I was used to coming through. "Why, are you offering?"
My cheeks heated up from his intense stare. Dear heaven above, this was not the time to be blushing!
"You always knew how to make the ladies swoon, Prince Cole," Sam teased jokingly. "Maybe you can get her to say her name."
He turned his gaze back to me. "You haven't said your name yet? Why is that?"
"Is it really all that important if you plan to kill me?" I remarked rudely.
"I don't have to kill you. That's a last resort option," he replied sincerely. "So, why don't you tell me your name?"
"After everything I just went through, I'd rather not." I deadpanned.
Colby's gaze caught mine, his eyes flashing red. "Tell me your name, now."
I felt an electric surge course through my body when our eyes met, something deeper than just surface level. I could almost feel him in my body, in my soul, for a moment. But once the current dissipated, I was left still not wanting to say my name.
"No." I dissented.
All the men around me stepped back, mumbling incoherently. For the first time since he came into the room, Colby looked startled. Almost scared.
"How is that possible?" Sam questioned, amazed.
Theo whispered. "Witchcraft."
"There's no way your powers didn't affect her!" Alek exclaimed.
"Quiet," Colby hushed everyone, scooping me up firmly. He pushed me onto his throne, barricading me in with his arms. His eyes narrowed as he glared down at me. "How were you able to do that?"
"Do what?" I gasped.
"Block my powers. I come from the longest living vampire lineage in history, spanning thousands of years, and somehow.... my powers have no effect on you." He scanned me once again, his eyes lingering longer on my exposed skin. "You are nothing more than a human."
"Lucky break, I guess." I sneered.
Colby scowled; his voice low. "Don't play cute with me, darling. You will not survive if anymore quips fall from your mouth. I am a patient man, but an indignant ruler."
"I don't know! I don't even know how the fuck I got here! I woke up in the forest and ran from those two lunatics and now I'm here getting berated by a bunch of vampires! You tell me how this make sense." I ranted, getting close to his face.
Sam chimed in. "Cole, she might be telling the truth."
"There's no way. Clearly she is a witch of some type. Or has her own abilities that are somehow stronger than mine. She might be a spy from our opposition." Colby argued, gesturing towards me.
"So, our only option... is the last resort." Sam breathed, glancing at me hesitantly.
I was going to die. There was no way around it.
Theo whined, "If you're going to kill her, can we please have a bite of her, sir? We are the ones that caught this intruder and-"
"You were the ones that let her in!" Colby thundered, his eyes red.
I jumped out of the throne, running towards the open doors behind me. I barely got close, being taken suddenly into Colby's strong arms.
I screamed, pleading with him. "No! Please let me go! I'm not a spy! I- Please!"
"There's no use fighting me, sweetheart. This is the only option left." He spoke calmly.
I shook in his arms, doing my best to fight against his hold. "Please don't do this to me! No, Col-"
"I will make it painless and quick if you want." He assured.
I raged, thrashing back and forth in his arms. "Fuck you! Let me go!"
He pulled my hair so my neck was on full display for him to bite into. "What a pity. I'm sorry, sweet girl. There is no other way."
Colby's teeth sunk deeply into my neck, my body freezing against his. The shock of the bite sent my body into overdrive, tears flowing down my cheeks as I begged for my life.
Sam, Theo, and Alek watched as Colby drank from me slowly. Theo and Alek glared but gazed at my neck hungrily. Sam observed, a sad expression coming across his red eyes.
Colby pulled away from my neck with a sharp inhale, an almost moan. "Oh Lord, her blood is divine. Unlike anything I've had before."
He plunged his teeth back into my neck, my eyes drooping from the blood loss. He sped up his motions, draining me faster. I kept trying to fight, but my limbs grew stiff and tired. My tears had slowed down and my voice wasn't as loud as it once was. I was inching closer to death. Black dots filled my vision.
"Please, Colby. Stop." I whispered, my breaths extremely shallow and labored.
He froze at the sound of his name. He removed his mouth from my neck, spinning me around in his arms. The world doubled, tripled, in my vision. My head whirled as I felt like I was falling.
He brought me down to the floor softly, cupping my face just like he had before. "What did you call me? Say it again, darling. Say it!"
"C-Colby. Pleaseeee." I slurred, my eyes unable to stay open.
The last thing I saw were his blue eyes, deeply worried about me.
~~~
"Take her to my bedroom, call Magnus. Tell him to heal her, quickly. Now! And if you harm a hair on her head, I'll stake you where you stand." Cole ordered, glaring daggers into Theo's eyes.
Theo took Y/N into his arms, running her up to Prince Cole's room hastily. Alek followed suit, disappearing with him.
Samuel grabbed onto Cole's shoulder, pulling him out of his thoughts. "She called you... Colby. But the only person that ever called you that was-"
"My mother. And she passed when I was a child. There's no way anyone knew of that name, but her." Cole's breathing picked up, his mind racing a million miles a second.
"Do you think this is the sign she meant to send you? She told you all those years ago she would send someone just for you." Samuel responded, looking into Cole's eyes.
For the first time in hundreds of years, Cole was unsure. And he would never admit it to anyone, but he was petrified too. "I-I don't know. But I have to find out."
"Rain or shine, we have made it to Cathedral Cove. And today is Penelope's birthday." Elton starts the video so the guys cheer them and sing happy birthday to her.
"Thank you, thank you." She blushes.
"Are we ready to get this hike done?" Elton asks the four.
The hike there was pretty easy and Penelope just enjoyed looking at the nature that she hardly paid attention to the guys playing around.
"I don't think any other birthday will outdo this." Penelope says standing with Colby and Sam alone looking out at the ocean.
"We still have many birthdays to try to outdo this." Sam puts an arm around her so Colby does the same.
"You got a better birthday compared to us this year." Colby pats her back so they go back to Elton and Corey.
The guys play around more so Penelope takes pictures with her phone of everything and a few selfies of the ocean behind her so Colby photobombs her.
"Must you?" She gives him a look.
"Duh!" He runs off.
Colby ends up in a tree so Penelope takes a picture of him and he gives her a big smile making her giggle, "Okay, now get down without hurting yourself more. I can take care of cuts and scraps but not broken bones." She points her finger up at him.
"Okay, mommy." He gets down the way he got up.
Once he was down, Elton suggested a photo shoot for them all to do, "Penelope, you're a model so give us some tips." He tells her.
"Be confident and don't be shy. Act like you own the world. It's all about you." She tells him what her first photographer told her when she started.
"You heard her boys." Elton claps his hands.
During their little photo shoot, they had a good time making Penelope crack up at how they were acting. When it started to rain they waited in the cave before heading back down for the day. After taking a few minutes to eat a snack, Elton drives wanting to go to the hot water beach.
Getting there Sam and Corey play around while the other three try working on making a hole but luckily someone gives them theirs when they leave.
"Guys we just spent an hour and a half making this." Sam says making Penelope and Colby look at him.
"You spent an hour and a half or we spent an hour and a half." Colby tells him.
"You two played around while we worked." She laughs at him.
"At what point did you touch this and put it in there?" Elton asks Corey holding the shovel.
"I did like..." Corey starts.
"The entire time did you not see him?" Sam asks.
"Yeah, the entire time." Corey agrees.
"So much footage of him with the..." Sam starts but Penelope cuts in.
"Oh, we must have been in an alternate universe for a bit then." She tells him, taking a seat in the water and it was warm like a hot tub.
"Hi." Colby smiles lying down while everyone sits in the hole. "Am I in your space?" He smiles up at Penelope.
"You tell me. You're halfway lying on my lap." She moves hair out of his face.
"I'm trying to stay warm so ignore me while I try to get all of me in this little pond."
"Well, I can tell you that my legs are warm with you on top of them." She laughs.
"Corey, are you cold?" Sam asks as Elton points at Corey's nipples.
"I'm freezing!" He covers himself, "Freaking Penelope has a Colby blanket." Corey nods his head at them.
"My upper half is still freezing." She says holding herself.
"Oh, is the birthday girl cold?" Elton baby talks to her.
"Yes!"
"We should head back to the RV soon. It's cold and looks stormy." He tells the group.
"I'm gonna go early so get off me." She rolls Colby off her legs.
"Bubba is coming too!" Corey jumps up getting his shirt and they rush back to the RV leaving the three. "How is your birthday so far?" He asks as they get in the RV.
"Great thanks to you guys, of course for bringing me along." She hugs him.
"Of course. You can rinse off first. Not only because ladies first but also birthday girl." He moves for her to pass him.
By the time the three joined them, they were already clean and dressed comfortably sitting at the table chatting about random things.
"You sissies." Elton tells them.
"For being cold?" Corey asks confused.
"Yes."
"Then I'm a sissy." Penelope smiles.
"We still love you though." Sam pats the top of her head.
"That's nice to still know." She nods her head, "What do I have to do to not still be loved?" She asks him.
"Break our hearts." Colby gives her a look.
"How would I do that?"
"You move out and leave us." Sam laughs.
"So I'm stuck with your two till we die?" She laughs at him.
"Honey, even when we die you're still stuck with us." Colby messes up her hair.
Her eyes widen thinking about her entire future till death, "I'm fucked." She gets up and goes to the bed to get on her phone.
The three clean up then Elton drives to a place for them to stop and sleep for the night. "Why are you laying up here alone? It's your birthday, Missy." Colby leans against the bunk.
"I'm tired because of the little hike to the cove. And since I'm the birthday girl, I'd love to get some alone time to rest." She rolls to face him.
"You still have to share a bed with us so technically you're not alone..." He says being a smart ass with her.
"I hate you." She turns away from him so he crawls up there to tickle her and she begs him to stop but he doesn't. "Help me!" She cries out to Sam and Corey.
The two look at each other and ignore Penelope begging them to help her. Corey plus out his phone to text Sam so no one would hear what he
Corey: He seems even more playful lately with her.
Sam: Trust me, I've noticed since the lunch thing, lol
Corey: Did something happened I'm missing out on?
Sam: Yep! To pisses Darwin off he kissed her twice but the second kiss made him realize something...
"No fucking way!" Corey shouts out loud making Colby and Penelope loom at him confused, "Oh, nothing. Just something on Twitter." He laughs.
"Well, you got him to stop." Penelope laughs as Colby sits back with the two.
"I'll get you back when you least expect it." Colby narrows his eyes on her.
When it was time to get some rest everyone sang Happy Birthday one more time for Penelope. Laying in the bunk, Colby watches Penelope on her phone going through her snaps. She often went through her saved snaps whenever she was bored.
"Oh, send me that one." Colby whispers to her.
"Are you just watching me?" She giggles.
"Maybe... Send me that please."
"Dude, you're not even in the picture. It's just me on a shoot." She looks at him.
"So? If you won't do it I will." He snatches her phone out of her hand sending the picture to himself.
"You're so odd." She takes her phone back from him.
"For wanting to support you?" She just looks at him before locking her phone to go to bed.
Colby Brock. A guy that had been your crush since eighth grade, when he’d moved to town. There was something about him that called you back to him time and time again. He was a kind soul with a passion for life. He was someone you felt you could get along with.
But his whole attitude changed when the two of you started high school. He quickly became cold and rude. Quickly climbing the social ladder to join ranks with the most popular students in the school. These were the same people who bullied you and your friends.
It should have ended your crush on him, but it didn’t. The crush only seemed to grow as you watched him from afar. You would catch glimpses of the old him from time to time, which gave you hope that he was still in there.
Sophomore year, his attitude worsened, and he grew meaner to the people around him. News got around that his parents had divorced because his dad had been having an affair behind his mother’s back. It was also known she left town and now he was stuck with his father. He began to join in on the bullying, proving his new standing in school. During this time, you still watched him and searched for glimpses of the old Colby. They were becoming far and few.
Junior year, he started dating Paige Marcus, the IT girl of the school. All the boys wanted her and most of the girls wanted to be her. She was your personal tormentor and she had been for years. She’d taken a dislike to you in fourth grade, when you got the lead in the class play that year. That girl hated you more than anyone thought was possible.
It was a real heartbreak the first time you’d seen Colby and Paige walking hand in hand down the hallway. Your smile had faded, and you wanted to just cry. All over a boy who had never taken a notice to you. Especially because you were just some nerdy girl and he was now popular.
One day, you had been late to school, so you had to rush to get to class. As you ran through the hallway to get to class in time. You ran into Colby, literally. You collided hard with his built form, falling onto your ass.
Colby just simply looked down at you and laughed. “You should watch where you’re going, nerd.” He growled when anger flashed through his eyes.
Paige was hanging on his arm and glaring at you, as per usual. “Yeah loser, you really should watch where you’re going. My boyfriend didn’t need to be inconvenienced by you.” What was she? Colby’s parrot?
Paige laughed and kicked my books across the hallway. Colby laughed along with her, and pain flashed through my chest. “There better not be a next time.” He grumbled before stepping over you and walking away with Paige beside him.
Tears welled up in your eyes, misting up your glasses. You had been so embarrassed that day. You’d hoped it would end your crush on him, but it didn’t.
Senior year, Paige set out to personally destroy you at every chance she got. Colby was by her side each time, laughing along with her. That year was absolute hell for you. There was no escape from Paige’s wrath.
The worst day nearly broke you.
It was the middle of January and it had just snowed, making the town a frosty wasteland. There was a fire drill shortly after third period began and everyone was ushered out to the cold.
You stood with your class minding your own business when Paige approached you, dragging you from the other students. You’d struggled against her, not knowing why she had pulled you away.
“What do you want?” You asked while her nails dug into your arm.
“Just teaching you a lesson.” She said as you stopped next to a huge frozen snow bank.
“Why do you have to do this to me, Paige?” You questioned when she stole your glasses from your face. “No, give those back.” You attempted to reach for them, but the blurriness had taken over. As you were about to grab them, she threw them to her friend, Cassie. So you moved to get them from her, but she was keeping you from being able to retrieve them.
“Give me my glasses!” Your voice was loud because you were angry the snickering bitches had stolen them from you.
Suddenly, Cassie dropped them to the ground and stepped on them. A crunch could be heard as she ruined your chance for clear vision.
“Oops, my bad.” Cassie spoke while she continued to wreck your glasses.
“Stop! Why are you doing this?” Tears had begun to gather in your already blurry eyes.
“Oh look, we have a cry baby on our hands.” Paige taunted before pushing you towards the ground.
Your left hand went out to catch you, making contact with the frozen ground before your body weight came crashing down onto it. A sharp pain shot through your wrist, making you cry out as the pain hit. Paige and Cassie were just cracking up the whole time.
The world was blurry around you as you lifted your hand from the ground. Pain radiated through your arm, starting from your wrist.
“What are you guys doing?” A familiar voice cut through the two girls’ laughter. It was Colby and you were afraid he was here to join in on the torture.
“Oh baby, we were just teaching Y/n a lesson.” Paige answered in a supposedly sweet voice, but anyone could hear the venom hidden in her words.
“By breaking her glasses and hurting her?” He suddenly sounded mad.
“It’s just a joke.” Paige tried to sound like it wasn’t as big problem.
“Hurting people isn’t a joke, Paige!” He was yelling now. Then he was beside you, bending down to your level. “Are you okay, Y/n?” You couldn’t really see him all that clearly, but you could tell he was looking at the wrist you were clutching to your chest.
“No, it hurts a lot.” You whimpered as the pain continued to shoot through your arm.
“Okay, let’s get you to the nurse.” He was gentle as he helped you up from the ground.
“Why are you helping her?” Paige was now frustrated.
“She needs help.” He stated as he bent down to pick up your broken glasses from the ground.
“She’s not one of us, Colby, just leave her alone.”
“No, get out of the way.” He pushed by her and Cassie while leading you towards the school. The fire drill was over at this point.
It was quiet between the two of you as he led you through the hallway full of students who were headed back to class.
“Thank you for helping me.” You said to Colby, in a soft voice.
“Don’t mention it. Paige is a bitch a she needs to be put in her place.” He spoke as you walked into the nurses office. Once again, you had seen a glimpse of the old Colby which only proved to you that he was still in there.
You ended up having to go to the hospital, much to your mothers dismay. It was a serious inconvenience for her to leave work to take you to the hospital. She practically yelled the whole drive there. Your broken glasses were another yelling point for her. At the hospital, it was determined your wrist had been broken, which only angered her further. Not that any of it had been your fault, but she claimed you’d been the one to evoke the girls in the first place. Your mother and you werent particularly close.
After that incident, Paige and Colby had called it quits and Paige blamed you, of course. The rest of your senior year was pure hell for you, thanks to Paige and her friends.
You were more than happy to get away from there, luckily. You had received a scholarship to a college three hours away and your father’s house was twenty minutes from it, so you stayed with him. College was lonely for you, though. Because you weren’t all that great at making new friends and your father was always away for work, or on vacation with his new wife. A wife who didn’t like you much either.
Throughout it all, your crush on Colby never once faded. You didn’t know if it ever would.
****
10 years from the time you first began to like Colby, you were returning back to your mother’s house. You’d graduated from college and found a job close to her place, and thankfully she was letting you come back. You promised yourself you wouldn’t be there long before you found a place for yourself. You couldn’t help but to feel nervous about being back at her home. It would bring back memories of high school and Colby, but you highly doubted that he still lived in town.
You pulled into your mother’s driveway, staring at the sage green house in front of you. You’d grown up in this house. Your father had once lived in this house with you. The house held so many memories for you. Good and bad.
Sighing, you finally got out of the car and grabbed your bags from the back. You slowly made your way to the front door and let yourself into the house. Immediately, the aroma of cooking food filled your nostrils. Odd. Your mother hated to cook. You put your bags by the stairs and went to the kitchen. You found your mother standing in front of the stove wearing a blue dress. She never wore dresses.
“Hi mom.” You said getting her attention.
She turned around with a huge smile. “Hello honey. How was the drive back?” She had abandoned the stove to pull you into a hug.
“The drive was fine. What are you dressed up for?”
“Oh honey, I’m so excited. I’ve been seeing this man for a few months now and I’ve invited him and his son to dinner to welcome you home.”
This surprised you. Your mother had never successfully dated since your father left her.
“Yes okay, wow. Congrats mom. I look forward to meeting them.” You honestly were.
“I think you will like him, and his son is about your age and just a sweet young man.”
“Well I’m happy for you.”
“Thank you baby. You should go get settled in. They will be here in about an hour.” She then sent you off towards the stairs. The person you were just talking to was definitely not the person she was before you left for college. You purposely didn’t come home to visit all that often because you were afraid of who you would come home to.
After a quick shower, you sat at your counter to do your makeup. You were happy that you no longer had to wear glasses, because two years ago, your dad had gifted you laser surgery as a sorry for never being around. He still wasn’t around after that though, but you learned to expect that from him. After he left, you weren’t really much of a thought in his head.
You decided on a nice purple dress of yours and a pair of flat black booties for your feet and left your room. When you were halfway down the stairs, the doorbell went off.
“Y/n, could you get that?” Your mother asked from the kitchen.
“Yes.” You said, stopping in front of the door.
You flung open the door, instantly panicking as you saw who was on the other side. Colby Brock beside an older man, that must be his father. Your mom was dating his dad.
“Hello, come on in.” You moved out of the way so they could enter the house. Colby’s eyes were glued to you, which sent chills through your body. Oh god, tonight was going to be hell.
Your mother exited the kitchen and pulled Colby’s dad into a kiss. You grimaced and turned away from the scene. “Y/n sweetie, I want you to meet John Brock and his son Colby.” She introduced the men to you.
“I went to high school with Colby.” Colby was way hotter than you remember him being. He was sexy, tall, and muscular. He had this really sexy dyed blue hair upon his head. The man was perfect.
“Oh really? Do you remember her being so clumsy in high school? Her senior year, she broke both her glasses and wrist all in one day.” Your mother’s words made you blush in pure embarrassment.
“If I remember correctly, Y/n had her glasses stolen before she was pushed into a snowbank. So it wasn’t her fault.” Colby defended you, shocking you.
“Oh, looks like you had a friend in high school, Y/n.” You face grew red now.
“I think dinner is done. I’m going to go set the table.” You quickly dismissed yourself and ran off to the kitchen to grab the plates and silverware. You desperately hoped your mom wasn’t going to keep embarrassing you throughout dinner.
You were setting up the plates when your mother entered the room, followed by Colby and his father. You idly wondered if Colby had a girlfriend.  He had to have a girlfriend with how sexy he was.
“Thank you, Y/n. Can you grab the food for us?” She questioned while already being seated next to John.
“I’ll help you.” Colby said while following you into the kitchen. “How are you doing, Y/n?” He questioned.
You pulled the food from the oven and set it on the stove. “I’m alright. Not too thrilled to be back at my moms, but it’s okay.”
“I know what you mean. Living with my dad is hard. But I haven’t seen him much since he’s been seeing your mom.”
You began to put the other food into bowls for the two of you to carry. “How long have they been dating?” Your mother never said a length of time, only that she was dating someone.
“I’m not too sure, but I know it’s been over six months.”
“She kept it a secret from me.” You concluded. To be honest, it hurt that she kept something that big from you.
“My dad is the same, but he’s been that way all my life. I found out about his affair from someone at school. So that should tell you everything you need to know.”
That was rough. “I’m sorry, Colby.”
He just shrugged. “I’m over it now.” But you didn’t know if he was, but you weren’t going to push him.
The both of you carried the food into the dining room, where your mom and his dad were deep in conversation. The two of them looked up when you entered the room. You placed the food onto the table and took your seats, which happened to be right next to each other. Your mom and his dad were on one side and you and Colby were on the other.
You were still in shock that your crush was right here in front of you. You were double shocked that your mom was dating his dad. How in the world did that happen?
“It’s good to have you home, Y/n.” Your mom said as you started to plate the food.
“Thanks mom. It’s good to be home.” You didn’t know how truthful she was being though because the two of you haven’t gotten along for all of your life. She’s blamed you for your dad leaving and treated you like crap for it.
Dinner went on like that, with idle conversation and moments of silence. Truth be told, it was awkward as hell. You kept stealing glances at Colby, to find him pushing his food around before he would glance your way as well. You would always look away while a light blush appeared on your face.
“Alright kids, now that we have finished dinner, we wanted to talk to you about something.” John said once all the plates had been cleared.
“Sure.” Colby said, while you just nodded.
“We wanted to take a family vacation, so we can get to know each other’s family. So we booked a vacation to Boca Raton for a week.” Your mom said catching the two of you off guard.
“Oh, okay. But you know I have a job to start, right?” You stated.
“Yes sweetie, I know your job doesn’t start until next month and we leave in two days.”
“Great.” Colby’s voice was void of emotions. Like you, he wasn’t thrilled about your parents attempts to mesh the families together.
“You don’t sound too thrilled about this, Colby.” John noticed.
“I’m not. I’m being forced to get to know your new girlfriend and her daughter when I would rather not be involved. It’s not going to go anywhere, just liked the rest of them. You will probably cheat again.”
His words were harsh, but you could definitely see where he was coming from. But you couldn’t help but feel he had a dislike for you simply because your mom was dating his dad.
“That’s where you are wrong. I love Susanne and we are going to make this work whether you like it or not.” John was defensive against his moody son.
“Whatever you say. Are we finished here? I have somewhere to be.” He pushed his chair from the table and got up.
“I’m sorry, Sue, I don’t know where he got the attitude from. I promise he will be better on the trip.” You just rolled my eyes and stood up and started gathering the empty plates. Your mother followed John and Colby out while you started to clean up.
You were washing the dishes, when your mother entered the kitchen behind you.
“So Y/n, did you like John?” She questioned while you glanced over at her.
“I don’t know him enough to know whether I do or not.” You said truthfully.
“Well you should like him. He makes me happy and I’m in love with him.”
A sick feeling formed in your stomach.
“How long have you two been dating?” You needed to know how long she kept it a secret from you.
“Ten months.”
“You kept it a secret from me for 10 months!” You raised your voice as the anger took over. You put the sponge down and turned to face her.
“Yes, we didn’t talk much, and I didn’t think it was that big of a thing to keep from you. Besides, you were busy with college and whatever else you were doing at your fathers, I didn’t want to bother you.”
Her excuse was pure bullshit to you. “Save the shitty excuse and admit you didn’t think about telling me.” You growled turning away from her.
“What? No honey, why would you think that. You’re my daughter and you mean a lot to me.”
Once again you faced her, “I mean a lot to you? That’s a fucking lie. You blamed me all my life for my father leaving you, but you didn’t stop to think about that fact that he left me too. You made my life hell because you weren’t happy with yours. What kind of mother does that?”
She just laughed it off. “You’re overexaggerating it. Now finish the dishes, I’m going to relax.” Before you could say another word, she was out the door.
****
Two days later, you were sitting in an airport, with Colby beside you and both your parents in some seats across from you. Both of you were equally unhappy to be here, while both parents acted like lovebirds. It was honestly gross to watch.
“Holy fuck, do they ever stop.” You groaned, taking your eyes away from them.
“Nope, they are constantly all over each other.” Colby stated looking down at his phone. “You seem angry.” He noticed.
“I am.” You grumbled, thinking about the conversation you had with your mother the other day. Like always, she managed to make you feel like shit instead of acknowledging her wrong doings.
“What did she do?” His focus was now strictly on you.
“She didn’t think telling me about her new boyfriend was important. She practically admitted to forgetting I existed once I was out of the house. Growing up with her as my mother was hell and she has never once apologized for the shit she did to me. For years, she blamed me for her and my fathers divorce. I was 4 when they divorced.” You said making sure your voice was low, so she wouldn’t hear it.
Colby was silent for a little while. “That’s horrible. What kind of mother blames their child for a divorce?”
“Mine apparently. Now she wants to suddenly act like it didn’t happen.”
“Well I think that’s bullshit. I can see right through them, you know. They are just using each other for company. My father has never been able to be faithful, every woman he has dated were all just an excuse to have some fun. He also resents my mom for moving on from him and marrying someone whose better to her.”
“That’s fucked.”
“You’re telling me. My father is immune to commitment.”
“We have some fucked up parents.” He nodded and sent a glare to both your parents who were giggling to themselves.
The flight was called shortly after that, so the two of you followed your parents onto the plane. Colby and you were going to be sitting next to complete strangers, while your parents snuggled up together. It was not fun. Your flight was annoying, because the middle-aged man beside you kept checking you out and trying to talk to you, despite you politely telling him you weren’t interested in conversing. It was complete hell.
Arriving in Boca Raton was a godsend because you couldn’t stand being next to this guy anymore. The last half hour of the flight, he spent it trying to guess your name and persuade your number out of you. You were seconds away from punching him, but luckily the plane landed, and you were able to get out of there quickly. Colby sent you a look as you exited the plane, you just grumbled under your breath.
“Well that flight was wonderful, wasn’t it kids?” Your mother asked as John waited for the luggage to come around.
“Fuck no. That was the worst flight I have ever taken.” You said, holding your anger back.
“Oh sweetie, lighten up. We’re on vacation.” Her words sparked even more anger.
“The old guy next to me kept hitting on me and wouldn’t shut the fuck up the whole flight.”
“Watch your language.” Was all she said before she strolled up to stand beside John.
Colby just chuckled from beside you. You sent him a glare and walked away from the group. You didn’t want to be here with them. You didn’t want to spend a whole week with your mom and her boyfriend that you knew nothing about. You didn’t want to spend the whole week pining over Colby when you knew he would never like you the way you liked him. He and you were still in completely different circles and he liked his women blonde and gorgeous. You were anything but that. Okay maybe you’re pretty, but you still thought of yourself as the nerd from high school and you didn’t doubt he did as well.
John and your mother ushered all of you to a rental car, and you were off to the hotel. Colby and you were in the back, silently sitting beside each other. He was on his phone, probably talking to a girlfriend or something.
“Oh, I almost forgot. John upgraded his and I’s room to a suite, but you and Colby will be sharing a regular room.” Your mother said with a huge smile on her face.
“That’s great.” Colby grumbled from beside you, voicing your thoughts out loud.
“Don’t sound so sad. It will be good for you to get to know each other.” John stated sternly, showing authority over Colby.
“Sure, whatever.” Colby said under his breath. you hid your smirk from his words. He nudged your side when he saw that.
You were nervous as hell now. You would be sharing a room with Colby. The man you’ve had a crush on for nearly 10 years. This was going to be one hell of an experience; you were sure of it.
The car pulled up to the hotel, which was this huge building that looked like it had been here for a while. It was beautiful and right on the beach as well. It was surely a resort and perhaps it wouldn’t be a horrible place to stay. But your nerves were still on edge about this whole vacation. Your moms attachment to Colby’s dad scared you.
Colby and you were given the keycards to the room before your parents left both of you alone to fend for yourselves. Honestly, their behavior was disgusting to you.
“Let’s get to our room I guess.” Colby grumbled, picking up his suitcase and heading towards the elevators in the opposite direction of where our parents had gone. You quickly grabbed yours and followed after him.
The two of you stepped into a gold-plated elevator and he hit the eighth floor, where your room was located. You felt like he was resenting you, because he would have to spend the whole week with you.
“I’m sorry that you have to stay with me.” You mumbled as the elevator moved up floor by floor.
The angry scowl left his face as he glanced towards you. “No, I don’t mind staying with you. I’m mad at our parents for just springing all of this onto us last minute.”
You let out a sigh of relief when he said this. You really thought he hated you or something.
“Oh, I thought you hated me.” You admitted while looking towards the carpeted floor of the elevator.
“I don’t hate you, Y/n. I haven’t ever really hated you, even when I was dating Paige.” His words surprised you.
“Really? Then why was I treated like crap when you dated her?” There was no way he didn’t hate you then.
“Because Paige was always a huge bitch and blackmailed me into treating you that way.”
“Oh, well it’s okay then.”
He shook his head. “It’s not okay at all really. I should have never done some of the things I have done. But I was horrible in high school after my parents’ divorce.”
“Well it’s good to know you didn’t and don’t hate me. Also, don’t blame yourself for the way you acted as a result of the divorce. It was traumatic to you and you only did what helped you feel better.”
“I guess so. I wish I could take so much back.”
“That’s impossible, but you can continue to be a better person from now into the future.” It wasn’t good that he was beating himself up over the past.
He sent you a kind smile. “You’re right. Thank you for that, Y/n.”
You sent him a smile as well. “No problem. Now, should we get this vacation started?” You questioned as the two of you stopped in front of the door to the room.
Colby opened the door and the two of you entered the room. It was a surprisingly nice room for it being a regular room. There was two queen sized beds, covered in crème sheets and comfy looking pillows. There was a decently sized sitting area with a nice flat screen TV. The bathroom was gorgeous, with a huge, jetted tub and a beautiful walk-in shower. The best part was the private balcony we had that overlooked the beautiful blue ocean. Staying here wasn’t going to be so bad.
“This is way nicer than I expected.” He spoke your thoughts.
“Yes, I agree. But this is an upscale hotel.” You stated as you set your bags down on one of the two beds. The beds looked so comfy, you wanted to just take a nap at the moment.
“True.” He answered when his phone went off. He was silent as he checked it. “Our parents want us to meet up in the Lobby at 7 for dinner.” His voice was flat when he mentioned the parents.
“Oh great. Well, that means there’s time for a nap.” You moved your bags from the bed and pulled your shoes off. You pulled back the covers and got into the comfy bed. Your body was in bliss the minute you laid down on the bed. It was absolutely perfect. Your eyes grew heavy as soon as your head hit the pillow. The nap was much needed.
The Box [Part 2] (Colby Brock Imagine)
Word Count: 1,536
Warnings: Stockholm Syndrome, angsty??, kidnapping, unhealthy relationship, mention of sex, manipulation
Masterlist
It would be my luck that a global pandemic that resulted in the world shutting down for two weeks would happen right after I got kidnapped. At first, I thought that I was lucky. The guys couldn’t move to Hawaii anymore, which means I could probably escape. Then I found out that the whole moving to Hawaii thing was a joke. They were just moving to a house with a backyard so tropical that it looks like Hawaii. I should have known that they wouldn’t just abandon their lives in Los Angeles like that. Especially with Sam and Jake dating Kat and Tara, who were going to stay here.
They still decided to move during the lockdown. Which worked out in their favor, if I’m being completely honest; Sam, Colby, and Jake got a big moving van for their bigger stuff because they lived in the same building and could share the space. That gave Colby more room in his car for me. I got put into the trunk because everyone decided that it was less suspicious than Colby driving around with me blindfold in the passenger seat. They didn’t want me to know how to get to the new house or the address. For a group of guys who collectively share one brain cell, they’re not stupid when it comes to committing a felony. I’m pretty sure Colby drove around longer than he needed to just to throw off my sense of direction and how far away we are from the apartment.
Two weeks turned into three months of this bullshit lockdown. I almost got lucky when Sam broke his back. I was left Corey and Jake and I thought would be easy because I could appeal to their sympathetic side. Sadly, that didn’t work. I was halfway out before they caught on and dragged me back to Colby’s room.
I say Colby’s room, even though it’s our room because sometimes I don’t feel like I belong here. At least, not at first. Colby moved in some of my stuff into the room so I would feel at home. But being taken here against my will, and finding out that Colby stalked me before we met, takes out of the homely feeling of living with your boyfriend. But the more I'm stuck here, the more it starts to slowly feel like home.
I will say that I’m glad that Colby hasn’t forced himself on me. He understands the gravity of the situation and isn’t making it worse. I now get monitored internet access, which I didn’t have before, and I’m allowed to make YouTube videos now. Colby edits them to make sure I don’t upload subliminal messages. He’s also got me a lot of hobbies that don’t require the internet or social media to keep me occupied while he works and leaves the house. He got me a Nintendo switch with a few games. He put it on parental mode so I can’t go on twitter or anything. He’s been getting me art supplies and stuff so I can be creative. If I want to get anything with my money, I just tell him and he either orders it for me with my card or watches me shop.
If I’m being completely honest, this isn’t as bad as I made it out to be at first. While I mostly don’t feel like this is my home at first, the more I stay here the more it feels like it is becoming my home. I almost don’t want to leave. If the people in my life before Colby gave up so easily when I started talking to them less, then they weren’t really in my life in the first place. My parents didn’t like the idea of me moving to LA when I was 18, but I wanted to be an actress so I left. It was almost like they were rooting for me to fail every time I called home with news about failed auditions. They were happy when I did land roles, but they would always remind me that it didn’t mean I was going to make it. My friends back home were even less supportive, never believed that I was going to make in the first place. I’m pretty sure one of them started a rumor that I was a porn star just to make ends meet. Maybe Colby coming into my life was for the best.
At least I’m not stuck with just the boys 24/7. Tara and Kat would come over every once in a while to hang out with their boyfriends, and I quote, “to give me a break from dealing with the testosterone.” There have been a few times when the whole friend group got together for a party. Those were fun. Despite all the limitations, this situation isn’t all too bad.
“Hey babe, I’m back and I got you some stuff,” Colby says as he walks into the living room. I don’t have to be confined to Colby’s room anymore with a chain on my ankle. I have an anklet that shocks me if I get too close to the edge of the property. It sounds scary and a but I know he does it because he loves me. I don’t really want to leave the house anyway, with the pandemic still going on out there.
“Oh yay! I’ll wait for you to get out of the shower.” I save my spot in animal crossing and continue playing while Colby goes to decontaminate himself from the outside world.
Five minutes later Colby comes back out of the shower in sweats and dripping wet hair. He has a towel around his neck and slowly starts to dry his hair. I quicksave again before shutting off the game to give my undivided attention to Colby.
“You can go through the bags. I’m still wet and don’t want to ruin everything. You can also put the snack stuff in the mini-fridge.” There’s an unspoken rule in the house if you don’t keep it in your room or put your name on it, it’s fair game. So Colby pulled the mini-fridge out of storage to keep my food in the room when we first moved in to keep me happy with the food that I love.
“Was it crowded? You were gone for a long time today.” I grab the bag with stuff from the grocery store and start putting it away first.
By the time I finish Colby is fully dressed and his hair is mostly dry. He going through the remaining bags. I close the fridge and join Colby in the bed. Looking back at Colby now, with his stop blue eyes and steadily growing stubble, I feel bad for how I reacted when the whole thing started. I said mean things to him, things I didn’t mean at the time. I was just scared and mistook his kindness and affection for general creepiness. This is still the same Colby that I fell in love with before I found the box in his office closet.
“It wasn’t that crowded today. I think that everything calmed down from how it was earlier this year. I just made a lot of stops on my way home. I got us lunch too, by the way. Anyway, I know you’ve been getting bored so I got you a few hobbies I thought you would like.” He dumps a bag full of yarn and knitting needles.
“Is this for what I think it is?” I pick up the various colors and marvel at them.
“I noticed how much your eyes light up every time we watch Harry Style’s Today Show performance. And I also saw the look in your eye when you saw people making it on TikTok. So I looked it up and found the actual stitch pattern thing. I thought you would have fun making your own. And then I just got a few things for you to up-cycle your clothes you’ve been watching a lot of those videos. And some tie-dye that we can do together. And a plant to brighten up the room.” He’s trying so hard to make me happy. And it’s working.
“Oh my God! You didn’t have to get me all this stuff. I could have gotten them online or something. You’re so sweet.” I throw my arms around him and kiss his cheek.
“I know this whole situation has been unbearable and not pleasant in the beginning. But you’ve been such a good sport with all of this. I wanted to thank you for being patient and willing to let me in again. I truly do love you, Y/N, and just want the best for you.” He pushes my hair behind my ear and cups my face.
“I know, I’m sorry for freaking out when I first found out. I didn’t realize that you were only looking out for me. I love you too, Colby. I won’t try to leave again, I promise.” And I mean it. I don’t have any reason to leave. I finally have someone who loves me and went this far to prove it, why would I want to?
Pranked You ;) {Colby Brock}
Request: Hello sweetie! I was wondering if you could do a story where the reader and Colby aren't dating YET but there is yah know, chemistry and tension. But one day sam decided to pull a prank on Colby and it involved EVERYONE. So basically he makes it seem like he woke up in a different world or something where stuff is different. For example: him and reader are dating (you can choose whatever other stuff happens, lol) but once Colby figures out the prank, he pulls reader aside. They have a small argument before reader blows off on him, in which he says "I've never wanted to kiss you as badly as I do know" and that's how they admit their feelings! Thank you! And can't wait to see what you write love
A/N: Hi! Thank you so much for your request, sorry for the wait, I have been very busy with school and work. I hope the wait is worth it though! Get ready for a long imagine, I’m pretty sure this is about 3,000 words. I hope you love it! I just realized that I tried to keep this imagine gender neutral but I forgot that I accidentally put some she/her pronouns in it, I’m so sorry!
Warnings: Angsty, Cussing, Mentions of alcohol, implied smut
------------------------------------------------------------
It was just like any other day for you. You woke up around noon because you were exhausted from the day before. Between working, going to college, and trying to keep somewhat of a social life, everyone could see just how worn out you would get day to day. So today you decided to treat yourself with a few extra hours of this beautiful thing called sleep.
Your phone rest on the bedside table and of course checking it and replying to the unread messages was the first step of your morning routine. The first messages you saw were from the group chat that consisted of you, Kat, and Tara. Apparently, while you were sleeping, Tara and Kat had a whole conversation about a girl’s day that they wanted to plan for you three. The last text sent was from Kat and it read, “I can’t wait for y/n to see all these messages in the morning. We planned the best girl’s day while she was probably passed the fuck out in her bed lmao”.
You smiled sending them a text back alerting them that you are indeed alive and down for all the plans they had created. In fact, you would be seeing them later at Sam and Colby’s place for a couple’s dinner/pool/movie date night. Jake would be there as well, and although you were tragically single, you loved all of them to death and hanging out over there was like the most elite sleepovers you would have with your best friends as a child.
A new text appeared on your screen just as you began to emerge from the comfort of your bed sheets, “God finally you’re awake. I’ve been waiting for Kat to tell me you answered her message all morning. I need your help tonight with a prank. Colby is never going to see it coming”
“A prank? I thought you guys didn’t do that anymore...? But I’m in ;)” You sent back. Out of all the trap girls and all the boys, Colby and you got along the best. Ever since you first met, which was years ago at this point, Colby and you have been inseparable. You tried so hard to avoid your feelings for him, in hopes to not develop a crush that ended up ruining your friendship, but Kat picked up on it right away. She told you constantly that she could easily set you up with the beautiful blue-eyed boy, but you insisted that things would happen naturally if there was truly something there between the two of you. And so, you went on, day by day, falling helplessly in love with the sweetest boy you have ever come to know.
Sam sent a message telling you to head over to their place as soon as possible. You swore that you basically lived there already. You were at their house way more than you were at your own. You couldn’t imagine living further than 15 minutes from them. After what felt like a century to Sam, you arrived at the house. Your hand loudly knocking on the big wooden door.
“Hey y/n! How are you?” Kat asked, pulling you into a big hug as she opened the door. You smiled and hugged back at her kind gesture, I’m good! How are you? Do you know anything about this prank on you know who?” You questioned her. She glared at you, silently telling you to lower your volume. “Y/n! Colby is right upstairs be quiet!” She whispers, laughing at you almost blowing their cover immediately upon arrival.
Kat was quick to take you by the arm and drag you to the theater room where Sam was already sitting on one of the opulent red couches. He greeted you, telling you that he wanted to film your reaction to him telling you what prank you were going to pull. You agreed and sat down on the sofa facing the blonde. “Colby’s taking a nap right now upstairs because he was up super late last night editing one of our Sam and Colby videos. I figured we could use his exhaustion to our advantage and try and prank him that he woke up in some sort of alternate universe. I figured you could go into his room and set up a couple cameras, and I’ll keep two hidden in the living room where me, Kat, Jake, and Tara will be, so we hopefully get his full reaction. I want you to sneak into his bed and like cuddle him or something and when he wakes up, I want you to pretend that you’ve been dating him for a long time now. He is going to be super confused but just try and convince him that it’s true. If he ends up downstairs, we will go along with it too. I really want to see if he will think that it’s real after a while.” Sam explained.
You felt your face burning as your cheeks became a deep shade of red. He couldn’t be serious right? He wanted you to pretend that you were dating Colby? “I- Uh… I don’t know Sam won’t that be a really mean prank?” You tried to play it off, hoping that you didn’t just annihilate all your efforts to keep your feelings hidden. “You guys are like best friends, I don’t think he could be mad at you for such an innocent prank.” Sam replied. You began to feel incredibly flustered at the thought of having to be so affectionate with Colby. The room started to feel like a sauna as the sweat began accumulating all over your body.
Sure, you and Colby had cuddled before, but it was extremely platonic… Plus, it only happened in very specific moments, like last Wednesday after you had a couple of drinks, and everyone was sat watching a movie where he wrapped his arm around you so you could rest your head since it could barely hold itself up. You snapped out of your thoughts quickly realizing that Sam had been waiting on a response from you. You knew Sam was stubborn, he wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Your eyes met back with his and the only thing you could get yourself to do was slightly nod your head ‘yes’.
“Perfect.” Sam smirked, getting up to turn off the camera and hand it to you so you could set it up in Colby’s room. You already knew that he was thinking about how many points this would score him for a Sam and Colby prank war if it turns out the way he is wanting.
Before you knew it you had made it all the way up into Colby’s room where you had strategically hidden the camera, facing it towards the sleeping boy in his bed. You let out a deep sigh, trying to prepare yourself for what was about to go down. “If this ruins everything for me, I am going to kill you Golbach.” You whispered, knowing the deep sleeper wouldn’t hear a single thing. And so, the prank began.
You took a gentle hold of the silky black sheets and quietly slipped into bed right next to Colby. There was no game plan in your mind, you didn’t even think up a storyline about your fake relationship for once he woke up. You squeezed your eyes shut in fear as you quickly wrapped your body around his, resting your head under his chin as he slept on his back. He twitched slightly, bringing his arm up, lazily holding you back. The breath caught in your throat, this was already hard enough for you and now he is cuddling you back? You glanced up to see his face, his eyelashes were slightly fluttering, and his soft lips had a slight part in them. He was still fast asleep. You decided to try and wake him up by moving around in his arm slightly, hoping the movement would pull him out of his dreams.
“Y/n?” His voice rung through the room, deep and raspy. He sat up slightly, glancing around the dark lair that he called a bedroom, but his arm still remained around your frame. “W-what are you doing here?” He stuttered, visibly confused by the sight of you in his arms.
“What? I can’t cuddle my boyfriend?” You answered, shocked that you could even get those words to come out of your mouth. His eyes widened at your response, pure shock etched into his face. “Boyfriend?” You felt his heart start to race as he replied.
His arm dropped from your body as he delicately pushed himself out of bed. He was now hovering over you as he stood by the bedside table. There was a clear glass with some water sitting on a coaster on the table. His strong hand wrapped around it as he brought it up to his mouth, downing the rest of the water that was in it. You could tell by his body language that he was beyond confused. The glass clinked as he practically dropped it back onto the nightstand.
“Am I dreaming or something? Since when was I your boyfriend?” His eyebrows furrowed as he continued to look at you for some answers. Your heart sunk thinking about how mean of a prank this truly was, at least from your point of view. “Baby… Are you serious? We’ve been together for years now, are you feeling okay?” You said as you threw your legs over the side of the bed, pulling his hand into your own.
Your thumb gently rubbed circles onto the back of his hand, but only for a couple seconds before he pulled it away. “Is this a fucking prank or something?” He asked, irritation evident from his tone. You shook your head ‘no’, it was becoming hard to process words. You knew this was upsetting him, but Sam had you promise to make the prank last for as long as you could.
“I’m sorry- I have to get out of here really quick.” Colby said, making his way out the bedroom door. You said nothing back, hoping that Sam would end the prank for you as Colby made his way down the stairs.
“Hey brother! You’re finally up. Where’s y/n? I thought we were all doing a couples movie night?” Jake interrogated as Colby glanced to see Sam, Kat, and Tara standing over in the kitchen. Colby brought his hand up to his face rubbing his eyes, there’s no way that Jake is saying this too. Colby began to think that he was seriously going crazy. And then everyone else joined in on the conversation. You could hear them loudly as you stayed glued to Colby’s bed.
Sam began to ask if Colby was feeling alright, and you heard Kat say that maybe we should take Colby to the hospital in case he was losing his memory. You felt the panic in Colby rise as he was deflecting everyone’s concern insisting that he wasn’t losing his memory, and that he definitely wasn’t going crazy. He knew for a fact that you two weren’t dating, and none of them could convince him otherwise. “Dude, she’s gonna hear you up there. You’re going to break her heart. You really don’t remember?” Sam pushed.
You finally had enough. You raced out of Colby’s room and rushed down the stairs. You stopped immediately upon entering the kitchen, seeing everybody else still standing there surrounding Colby. The energy switched as they all looked to you, Sam pleading with his eyes for you to keep going. “I’m so sorry Colby, it was just a prank, please don’t be upset.” You couldn’t handle it any longer, the pain on his face was too much for you to bear. You watched as he scoffed back, “I knew it. Fuck you, guys. I’m going back upstairs.”
You felt horrible as you watched him stomp back up to his room, slamming the door shut behind him. Tears stung the back of your eyes, this was all your fault. You excused yourself from the group and somberly made it to Colby’s door. You preceded to place a faint knock on the wood, “Colby? I’m so sorry, can you please open up?” Your voice was so soft, it would’ve been hard for him to hear if he hadn’t already anticipated your arrival. The door swung open as Colby quickly made his way back over to where he previously sat on the couch.
You stayed frozen at the door for a couple seconds, hoping to brace yourself for the angry boy inside. You took hold of the cold metal doorknob, pulling the door shut behind you. You tip-toed your way over to the sofa and took a seat far from Colby. Your mind was running a hundred miles an hour as you tried to concoct a coherent sentence. “What the hell were you thinking? Did you seriously think that I would find this funny?” He spat in your direction.
“It wasn’t my prank, Sam just wanted me to help him out.” You said back, desperately trying to reason with him. He sarcastically laughed, running a hand through his dark hair. “I didn’t ask who’s prank it was y/n.”
You gulped, it felt suffocating in his room. The dark ambiance that normally felt inviting suddenly seemed like your own personal hell. “Colby, I didn’t want to hurt you I swear. I was trying my best to keep everything lighthearted. I could never hurt you.” Your voice was so delicate, it was so hard to speak. The tears were still threating to make an appearance, and that was the last thing you wanted.
“But you did, y/n. That’s the thing. Whether or not you ‘meant’ to hurt me, you did. And everyone else was in on it to. Did you even try and tell Sam that this prank wasn’t a good idea? Did you even think, for a split second, that this was incredibly immature? You were all treating me like I was losing my damn mind, trying to convince me that we were dating when we clearly never were.”
His words hurt, but they were all true. You had never been together, what were you thinking pretending like you were? All to satisfy Sam? To help him get a head start on the prank wars by completely crushing Colby’s heart? He is your best friend for crying out loud. “Look Colby. I never wanted to do this, okay? Did you ever stop and think that maybe I didn’t want to be doing this either? You mean everything to me. Why would I ever purposely hurt you? Especially after everything we have been through. All the ups and downs, the messy breakups, all the fights. I love you so god damn much and I hope you know that I would never, ever, hurt you like that.” By this point the tears were streaming down your face. Your previous spot on the couch was long discarded as you now stood right in front of Colby, praying that he knew you were being serious about not hurting him.
Your eyes searched his for any glimpse of a sign showing that he believed you. His bright blue eyes looked a lot more intimidating than usual. You couldn’t tell what he was thinking, his expression not giving you any clues. Finally, he responded, “Is it wrong that I’ve never wanted to kiss you as badly as I do right now?”
And finally, there was your sign. His eyes no longer looked intimidating. In fact, they had completely changed into something much different, lust. You quickly took a step closer to him as he took a stand right in front of you, placing his strong hands on either side of your face. He roughly pulled you in, causing your lips to crash together with loads of passion. They fit perfectly together, better than you ever imagined them. They worked in sync as the feeling inside of you was igniting a fire. He was so rough, but surprisingly still gentle. Acting as if one wrong move would completely break you. Your lips remained locked as he pushed you backwards, surprising you as your back made contact with his plush bed. He was on top of you, hungrily continuing the kiss.
You both pulled apart abruptly, gasping for air after your heavy make out session. “I guess now’s a good time to let you know that I am absolutely, one hundred percent, in love with you.” You stated, starring deep into his eyes. “Then I guess now’s a good time to tell you that I feel the same.” He responded, bringing you back in for another passionate kiss. You pulled back again, “So, does this mean I can finally see those handcuffs I keep hearing about in action?” You asked him, slightly laughing. “Only if you promise to keep quiet.” He winked back. And that was the start of your amazing, long awaited relationship.
Explanation
First impressions. Important, right? Especially if it's a girlfriend's parents or a job interview. A first impression could either make or break a person. It can decided whether you hate or love someone. And occasionally, impressions can change, for better and sometimes, even for the worst. But in this time line impressions are much more important, every new person you meet could have the chance at being your 'soul mate'. Confused? Thought so. Basically, when we are first born, we are placed in this machine. It looks kind of like a incubator. It's see-through at the top, the top being like a little bubble. And white. It has a cushioned bed-like place to lay the baby when the process takes place. This machine tells the doctors and your parents everything. Your looks, your attitude, your personality... and from your personality, they match another person, male or female, with you that suits your way of living 'best'. Therefore, choosing your perfect partner or 'soul mate' as it is often branded as. They learn your age when you meet, the day, time, the place; Everything you need to know about that one day. Except, you do not get told it all. Instead you are given three pieces of information; your 'soul mates' age, first and last initial and first sentence they speak to you, all tattooed on your forearm in a lovely row. Thick black writing which is designed not to fade, not to come off and to even change when your partner passes their birthday. Your parents are told literally everything, the date, the time, the situation; but they are not allowed to do anything about it.
This was a government idea to hopefully to determine uprise in future generations to keep the population up as well as brilliant people being brought into the world.
"Well... I wasn't expecting that"
.C.B.
20
That is all I know about my 'soul mate'. Five years older then me, his initials are next to each other in the alphabet and I, somehow, surprise him when we first meet. The words are so black that they shine through every piece of material including black. The only time that they are not visible is when it's  incredibly dark outside and your all in black, and yet, you can still see the outline.
The thing is that they do all of this to you, yet do not explain any of the consequences for having a 'soul mate'.
Number One: Once you meet them, you cannot leave them for more then a day before they start to feel secluded and unloved.
Number Two: Nothing can break the bond that you and your partner share, so if he's a dick, then unfortunately, your stuck with him.
Number Three: Your partner, especially a male, are incredibly over protective of you. They will become jealous over your friends, family, strangers on the streets... unless they have a 'soul mate'.
Number Four: They want to be with you every minute of everyday. Some are overly controlling.
Now they're probably many more that I have not heard of because I have yet to find my 'perfect partner'. But I have a couple of friends who have found theirs... oh god does it look like hard work. It's like your carrying someone else, which is probably like a definition of a relationship anyway. Your supposed to help your significant other out, it's the way it is.
But I don't want it.
I don't want to share my life with someone that I've literally just met. I don't want to put off my explorations because they miss me and I 'miss them'. I don't want to be connected with another person. I want to be a strong, independent woman, but I can't do that with someone clinging to me at all times.
But unfortunately, love is as inevitable as death in this world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Colby was relieved that the waitress, the only one that remembered him, decided to help. The moment she agreed, Colby gave her his number and left. She texted him not too long after, and he realized for a moment she never said her name. He planned to ask her the next day when they decided to meet up at his place.
It was weird to come back to his apartment, knowing that down the hall his best friend, his brother, lived there and didn't know who he was. Usually when Colby felt lonely, he would walk down the hall to Sam's and hang out for a bit. It was always nice to talk to Sam about anything and everything.
But now... he couldn't do that.
Colby tried to sleep during the night, but barely any rest came from it. He tossed and turned, hoping that when he would wake up, this would all just be some weird-ass nightmare.
When his cell phone rang the next morning at 9:34 A.M., it was an unfamiliar ringtone. As he rubbed his eyes awake, he glanced at the caller, the name 'Waitress' appearing on his screen.
I guess this wasn’t a dream after all.
"Yeah?" Colby groaned, squinting his eyes at the sunlight.
Her voice came through cheery, the tone too loud in Colby’s ears. “Let me up to your apartment. I'm here.”
He cleared his throat. “This early?”
“I figured you would want your normal life back as soon as possible, yeah?” She sassed.
He rolled his eyes. “Alright, give me a second. I'll come down and get you.”
Colby stumbled out of bed, running his fingers through his hair as he threw on a random shirt and jeans, slowly trudging down to the lobby of his apartment. She sat on a couch, tapping her foot against the carpeted floors. Her eyes were staring out the door, almost like she was looking at someone. When she heard Colby’s footsteps, her gaze pulled away from outside.
“Did I wake you?” She frowned, grabbing her bag next to her and standing up.
He shook his head. “You can't really be woken up if you barely slept.”
“I'm sorry to hear that.” She lightly bit her lip, following Colby to the elevator.
He shrugged tiredly. “It's okay.”
They both slowly got into the elevator, climbing up to Colby's floor. The loud 'ding' of the elevator broke their silence moments later. They walked to Colby's apartment, and he unlocked his door quickly.
She whistled quietly. “Woah, nice place.”
A half smile spread across Colby’s face. “Thanks.”
“No offense, but how do you pay for this place if you're not a social media person?” She questioned, stepping into the kitchen.
He raised an eyebrow. “That's... a good question. From what my mom told me over the phone yesterday, I worked all throughout high school and college, so maybe it's from that?”
“You only worked at Dairy Queen while you were in high school. You must have gotten a better job in college because there is no way you can afford this place.” She disagreed.
Colby smirked. “How'd you know I worked at Dairy Queen?”
“Well, for starters, my friend told me. And also, I did some research about you. But I'll get to that in a second.” She continued, her voice falling to a serious tone, “So... would you like to hear my theories?”
“Theories?” He puzzled.
“As to why everyone forgot about you.” The waitress explained.
Colby sat down on his barstool, exhaling. “Let's hear it.”
“Okay. For argument sakes, you're gonna have to just go with me on this. Because otherwise, I literally have no way to help you.” She started, already pacing slightly.
He cautioned. “...okay?”
“So last night, I tried to think of a reason why everyone would collectively forget about you. And the only conclusion I could come up with is that you're in an alternative universe.” She hypothesized.
Colby’s eyes widened, bugging out of his head. “A what?”
“An alternative universe. Basically, everything is pretty much the same in your life, except a few minor details,” she revealed. “That’s why you still live in this apartment, but you didn’t get here the same way you did in your other life, your real life.”
“This... it's way too early for this.” He grumbled, astonished.
She sighed, her hands resting on her hips. “The only other option is that this is a very long-winded prank that your friends are still pulling on you. Have you tried talking to any of your other friends besides Sam?”
“No, everyone else’s number is gone in my phone, which I can only assume means they don’t know me either.” Colby retorted. Then he took a deep breath as he pinched the bridge of his nose. “But, this doesn't make sense. How did I end up here if this isn't my life?”
“I’m not sure how you got here, but I think you’re here for a specific reason. I think you’re here to right a wrong that this Colby Brock did. I’m just… not entirely sure what that wrong might be.” She answered, unsure.
He huffed. “Okay… what am I supposed to do then? Stay here and hope we figure that out soon? I don't even know who I am in this universe.”
“And that's where my research comes into play.” She pulled a laptop from her bag quickly, placing it down on the counter and opening it. She scrolled through her browsers until she came across Colby's Facebook, which surprisingly looked active for someone who hadn't been personally on it in years.
I use Facebook? Gross.
“First, I started by seeing if you and Sam were friends on here, but that didn’t amount to much since Sam doesn’t have a Facebook. However, what I found out is that you and Sam did live in the same town, go to the same high school, and played in the same marching band. Sam talked about his early years before he was ‘famous’ in one of the first videos he posted, and I crossed referenced that with your profile and it all matches up.” She informed.
“That's strange,” he mumbled. “What did we do after high school?”
She stated. “You went off to college and majored in Business Management with a minor in Philosophy. You graduated early too.”
Me? Graduating early? I couldn’t even get through math without Sam’s help.
“What did Sam do?” He asked.
The waitress scrolled to another tab, opening it to show a search of Sam. “Well, a very quick Google search shows that he actually went to the same college as you but dropped out once his Vine career started to pick up. Then he went on to Musical.ly when Vine died. He moved out to LA in 2017 and started a YouTube channel after he met Katrina, and slowly met all of his- your, friends that way. He got a bump of followers once he started dating Kat because of her following.”
Colby’s mouth gaped at her words. “That can't be true. He would have never wanted that. I mean, I had to convince him that we should be on social media so that we could spread our message. Plus, he hates those channels that use their relationship for views.”
“Not this version of Sam. Or at least, it doesn't seem like it.” She commented.
He covered his face, groaning into his hands. “What the hell am I here for? What wrong have I done in this universe?”
Her voice low, she replied. “I think it might have to do with Sam.”
“But... he doesn't know me.” He dissented, sitting up.
She nodded. “I thought so too. However, after scrolling through all of your public photos, I found this.”
Colby squinted at the screen, an old photo of him and Sam stared back. They looked super young, probably sophomores in high school. They were both smiling, laughing at something. He vaguely remembered this day.
“So, we did know each other.” He bit his lip softly.
She hummed. “Yeah. And weirdly, it’s the only photo of the two of you on your profile. But it’s not the only strange thing.”
Scrolling to a different tab, she pulled up an old tweet of Sam’s. It read ‘Never thought you would be the one to hurt me. But I guess everyone can be surprising.’
Colby noted the date. “That was back in high school.”
“Yeah, and there’s a bunch like them. He talks about being betrayed and someone hurting him deeply. He never mentions, of course. But his tweets line up with some that you were tweeting at the same time.” She confessed.
The waitress clicked on a different tab and another tweet showed up, one from Colby’s account. He gazed at it, reading the words ‘If you hate me… imagine how I feel about myself.’
Colby’s face dropped. “Wait, what?”
“You don’t tweet that often, but when you do, you talk about righting wrongs and fixing things you fucked up.” She added, “You also hate on yourself a lot.”
He doubted, crossing his arms. “You think they’re connected?”
“I do. I think in this universe you fucked up somehow and hurt Sam. And I think you are here now to fix what the other you did.” She explained.
He ranted. “This is all so fucked! When I saw him yesterday, he acted like he didn’t even know me. How am I supposed to even go about this? What, do I just go down the hall and apologize for something I don’t even remember doing?”
“No. Sam's not in his apartment anyway. I saw him leave while I was waiting for you.” She mentioned nonchalantly.
He grunted. “Great, he could be anywhere in LA right now.”
“I know exactly where he is.” She smirked.
“What? How?” He questioned.
The waitress divulged. “This version of Sam has a favorite restaurant he goes to all the time. A lot of his fans know about it, thus one look through any of his fan accounts and you'll see it. It's called ‘Paradise’.”
“Sounds like a strip club.” Colby deadpanned.
She pouted. “It's not. But he goes there all the time, and I got us a table there last minute.”
“What exactly are we gonna do when we get there?” He crossed his arms.
“I was planning on going up to his table and talking to him, maybe asking him about you, see how he reacts.” She described.
Colby furrowed his brow, confused. “And what about me?”
She slid her laptop into her bag, zipping it up hastily. “Well… I didn’t really think that far ahead. But hopefully, whatever you did is forgivable, and we can just fix it right there.”
He murmured. “That's a lot to hope for.”
“It's better than sitting here and wasting daylight.” She grabbed her stuff and headed for the door. Colby followed suit, grabbing his keys.
He spoke as he locked his door. “What if this doesn’t work?”
She turned back to him. “It will. It has to.”
~~~
Paradise was a themed restaurant, which Colby thought was strange because his Sam never really liked those types of restaurants. The theme was nice, however, tropical and Hawaiian. It felt like something he, Sam, and a few friends would have gone to after a fun, drunk night.
As Colby and the waitress were escorted to their table, they both kept an eye out for Sam, glancing around nervously for the blonde boy.
“I think the worst thing about this universe version of me is how messy my car is,” Colby joked. “It’s like I live out of it.”
She shrugged, smiling. “It wasn’t that bad.”
“You should see my real car. My honey wagon is spotless.” He expressed, waving his hand.
“Honey wagon?” She queried.
“Long story,” he chuckled. Then abruptly, he gasped. “Holy shit, I just realized I never got your name.”
She cocked her head. “What? I never told you?”
He blinked. “No.”
She started. “It's-”
“Hi, I'm Tony, I'll be your server for today. Can I get you something to drink to start you guys off?” Tony greeted, cutting her off.
“Yeah, sure. A water for me.” She blurted out.
Colby added. “Coke, please.”
Tony smiled. “Okay, coming right up.”
Once Tony left, the waitress started scoping out for Sam again, her eyes widening once she saw him.
Her body stiffened, turning back to Colby. “He's over there, three tables down to your left.”
Colby gazed over his shoulder at his friend. Sam looked lost in thought, staring at his phone as he ate his food.
“Why is he alone?” He muttered.
“From some of the blogs I read, he likes to go out and eat by himself. Also, apparently, him and Kat are on the rocks.” She admitted.
“They love each other so much, it's kinda gross to be around them sometimes,” He quipped, but shook his head. “So to hear that...”
“I'm gonna head over.” She announced quickly.
Before he could speak, she left the booth. Colby watched her walk over to Sam, listening closely to their conversation as he ducked his head down.
“Hey... sorry to bother you, but are you Sam Golbach?” She asked sweetly.
“Yeah I am. Did you want something?” Sam stared blankly at her.
“Um, yeah?” She almost scoffed at his tone. “I’m a huge fan and I know this might be a weird question, but do you know someone named Colby Brock?”
Sam’s face remained stoic, but his eyes intensified. “No, I've never heard of that name before.”
“Are you sure, because I'm pretty certain that you and him are best friends.” She insisted.
He raised an eyebrow. “What are you talking about?”
Colby watched nervously as she pulled out her phone and showed Sam the photo. Sam scrunched up his face, his eyes scanning the image. “Yeah, no. Still don’t know who he is. What was his name again?”
“Colby Brock.” She stated.
“...Sorry. I’ve never heard a name like that before.” He mumbled, almost inaudibly. “Sounds stupid anyway.”
She cocked her head. “Wait, what?”
Colby clenched his fist, unable to hear this conversation any longer. He needed to come face-to-face with Sam. He slid out of his seat, walking hastily over to Sam and the waitress. Sam’s eyes narrowed as he gaped at Colby.
“Sam…” Colby started.
Sam growled. “Are you fucking serious, Colby? Did you really have to get one of my fans involved?”
“What?” Colby puzzled.
Sam jumped out of his seat, grabbing Colby’s arm and pulling him out of the restaurant. The waitress followed behind them, confused just as much as Colby. Sam’s feet stopped behind the back door of the building, turning to Colby without warning.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Sam barked.
Colby stepped back, surprised by Sam’s anger. “...Uh, I don’t know what you mean by that.”
Sam scoffed. “Why the fuck are you here? After all this time?”
“So, you do remember me.” Colby remarked.
“Yeah, I do. When you showed up at my place yesterday, it took me a minute to realize it was you, since you decided to dress up like a Hot Topic employee, but yeah, I knew it was you. Are you really gonna pretend in front of her that we don’t know each other?” Sam teared his eyes away from Colby’s, staring at the waitress suddenly. “Let me guess, he hasn’t told you the whole story, right?”
“I guess not.” She shrugged uncomfortably.
Sam chuckled darkly. “Of course not. If he told the whole story, he would have to admit he was an asshole, and God knows he’s not gonna do that.”
“What are you talking about?” Colby panted.
“Do you not remember? Well, I’ll give you a refresher. You and I became friends freshman year of high school. You were my best friend and I was yours. I trusted you. I trusted you with a lot of shit that I’ve never told anyone. Senior year of high school, right before we were about to graduate, right as we were starting a social media career, suddenly you don’t want anything to do with me; which would have been bad enough, but then I go and find out you and my girlfriend were hooking up behind my back,” Sam snapped, catching his breath for a moment. “So yeah, I remember you, Colby.”
Colby’s mouth fell open, his breathing speeding up.
None of this sounds like me. I would never hurt Sam like that.
“And now, you have the fucking audacity to show up when everything in my life is going great and I’m succeeding. I have fans, friends, and a girlfriend that all love and care about me, and you’re here trying to what? Stir up drama? Get some clout from me?” He demanded.
“If your friends and girlfriend love you, why are you eating all alone?” The waitress jeered.
Sam glared at her, biting his tongue. “And you made one of my fans hate me. Dope, dude.”
“Sam, look; I’m sorry for what I did. But that was years ago. I’m not who I was back then.” Colby choked out.
“I don’t care. I don’t want you in my life. Do you not understand what you did to me?” Sam persisted.
“I know I was an asshole, and I apologize for ever hurting you like that. But I miss you, and I want to work things out. Let me prove to you that I’m better.” He trembled, getting closer to Sam.
Sam backed up, blocking Colby. “No. No! You don’t get to miss me. You don’t get to miss a relationship you fucked up. It took me years to trust again. Hell, I’m still going through it. You don’t get to decide whether or not you’re in my life. Not anymore.”
“Sam… please.” Colby whimpered.
“Don’t show up at my place again. Don’t talk to my fans about me. Don’t act like you care about me. Because I’m done,” Sam stared into Colby’s eyes before going back into the restaurant. “I don’t care about you. Fuck off forever and leave me alone.”
Sam’s words punched Colby hard, taking the breath out of him instantly. He caught himself against the wall, his legs turning to gelatin under his weight.
He stuttered. “I… gotta leave. I-I have to…”
“Colby, relax. It’s gonna be okay.” She grabbed his hand.
He shook off her embrace. “What? No it’s not! Did you not hear what he said? Why would he want to be friends with a piece of shit like me?!”
“You were eighteen when this all happened. Give yourself a break.” She argued.
“No. I’m fucking terrible. This version of me is terrible. Of course he doesn’t want to be friends with me! I don’t even want to be me.” His voice quivered with anger, his body racing away from her.
She furrowed her brows, trying to keep up with him. “Where are you going?”
“I just need to leave. I can’t be here right now!” He grunted, his pace picking up.
She called after him, but Colby didn’t care. His heart slammed against his chest over and over again. Tears weld up into his eyes, blurring his vision as he began to run. He wanted to keep running until his legs gave out, until he couldn’t remember all the words Sam had said to him.
It dawned to Colby how much worse this universe was.
He wasn’t just stuck in a universe where Sam didn’t know him.
He was stuck in a universe where Sam didn’t want to know him.
In a universe where Sam didn’t love him.
And he had no way of escaping.
Colby must have blacked out while he ran, somehow maintaining to stay upright, because once his thoughts started to subside, and his body basically gave out under him, he noticed he was in a part of LA he had never been before. Some random neighborhood that was unfamiliar.
He shoved his body up against a metal telephone pole, sliding down to the ground. He tried catching his breath, gulping back breaths as he forced down the nausea overwhelming his senses. He wiped his face with his sleeve, feeling more tears rush down his cheeks.
His throat and chest burned with each sharp inhale. He whimpered into his hands, covering his face from the slowly retreating sun.
He slid his phone out of his pocket once he caught his breath, calling the only number he knew.
“Hey honey. What’s up?” His mom’s voice rang back sweetly.
Colby’s voice was monotone, exhausted. “You know who Sam is, don’t you?”
The line went quiet for a moment, all Colby could hear was her light breath.
“You told me not to talk about him. After you two stopped being friends, you said you never wanted to hear his name again.” She exhaled deeply, “I was taken aback when you asked about him yesterday.”
“He’s out here… in LA.” He responded.
She gasped lightly. “Did you run into him?”
He laughed bitterly. “You could say that.”
“Oh, Colby. I’m so sorry.” His mother consoled.
“There’s nothing to be sorry about, mama. I just…” Colby trailed off, unable to explain.
“Why don’t you come home this weekend?” She offered. “I miss you, you know.”
“I would love to. But…” His chest heaved as hot tears drifted down his cheeks. “That’s not my home.”
“Nonsense. You will always have a home here.” She assured him, her voice almost trembling.
He wiped a fallen tear, a broken smile coming to his face. “That’s good to know. I love you.”
She hummed. “I love you too, baby. Call me again soon.”
“I will. Bye.” He uttered breathlessly.
The sky was getting darker and darker, and Colby remained against the phone pole. He didn’t know how much time had passed, but suddenly his phone vibrated, a new message from ‘Waitress’ asking where he was. He sent his location, and she arrived twenty minutes later in his car. He stood up, stumbling to his passenger door. His legs were weak from the sprinting he had just done. As he got in, the cool AC blasted the sweat and tears off his face.
They didn’t speak, a quiet radio station playing in the background the only sound. She drove through the hills of LA, eventually hitting a peak. She parked the car as it overlooked LA, the lights looking like stars on the horizon.
She got out a minute later, walking over to the hood and leaning against it. He could see something in her hand but didn’t recognize it. Colby sat in the car by himself, not able to physically move his body from how exhausted he felt. Eventually, he achingly stepped out of the car, sitting next to her on the hood.
“I’m fucked.” Colby breathed.
She started. “I don’t think-”
“Please don’t try to make me feel better. I know you mean well, but I am fucked,” he rebutted, his voice dark. “I’m stuck here, in this universe, where Sam hates me. And as if that weren’t bad enough, I did terrible things, things I know I would never do to him. How the fuck am I supposed to apologize for those mistakes? I wouldn’t take him back if the roles were reversed.”
“Read this.” The waitress stated, handing him a journal.
He glanced down at the leather-bound book, slightly faded from years of writing. He unclicked the lock and opened it, looking down at the pages. It was his, a journal full of writings he had done.
“Where did you get this?” He inquired.
“You were right about your car being messy. But you’d be surprised what you fine if you just look.” She teased.
Colby read over the words, the first entry catching his eye. It was dated a year after him and Sam had graduated high school.
Sam is succeeding without me. I knew he would. He was always so smart when it came to business decisions. He just hit 10k followers on Vine. That’s crazy!
“What the hell is this?” Colby questioned.
She answered quickly. “This whole journal was you keeping up with Sam without him knowing. This version of you always paid attention to what he was doing, even if you guys were no longer friends.”
“I’m obsessed with Sam? That’s great.” He deadpanned.
“You’re not obsessed with Sam. Read this entry.” She skipped a handful of pages, finally stopping on one and showing it to him.
I hate myself everyday for the hurt I caused Sam. I can’t believe what an idiot I was back when I was 18. We could have gone so far together… but I had to go and fuck it up.
He scowled. “Am I supposed to be sad for myself?”
“Keep reading.” She pushed.
The night I chose to never speak to Sam again, I knew I made the wrong decision. But I had to. Sam was ready to go on and do bigger and better things. I was just gonna hold him back. I was terrified of failing, not only myself, but him. He deserves success. That’s why I had to ignore him. I have never been as smart as him. I would have ruined our chances of doing something great. And I have been proven right by how far he has gone without me.
“You stopped being his friend because you were scared, not because you didn’t care anymore.” She repeated.
He slid off the car, scoffing. “So what if I was scared to fail? Sam didn’t deserve the hurt I caused just because of that. And what about me cheating with his girlfriend?”
She jumped off the car, striding up to Colby. She grabbed the journal from his hand. “You didn’t cheat, look.”
She pointed at the bottom of the page, his eyes following her finger.
“Me and Lexi were never together! I hate her for telling him that. One night, they had a really big fight and she came over to my house to ask what she should do. I told her to break up with him if she really didn’t care anymore. And then she tried to hit on me. I told her off and threatened to tell Sam, but she got to him first. She must have told him her and I were together.” The waitress read aloud.
“Wait, if I never hooked up with his girlfriend, why wouldn’t I tell him that?” Colby hissed.
“I think at that point, you wanted the friendship to be over, and I think this solidified it.” The waitress responded.
“All this time I could have been friends with Sam, but I ruined it because I was scared? What a fucking idiot.” He spat.
“You weren’t an idiot,” She interjected. “You just disliked yourself so much you didn’t think you deserved happiness. At least now you know that this version of you isn’t as terrible as you thought.”
“Even with that being the case, Sam’s never gonna accept my apology. Why should he?” Colby lamented, “I let him down the worst ways. I broke his trust and loyalty.”
She shook her head, stepping towards him. “Give him some time. You might be surprised."
Before Colby could speak, his phone rang. He took his phone out of his pocket and looked at the number. It looked familiar, but he couldn’t place it.
“Hello?” He answered.
“Did you really mean it when you said you were sorry?” Sam spoke, his tone hesitant, but dry.
His breath hitched at the sound of Sam’s voice. “Of course. I never meant to hurt you, Sam.”
Sam paused for a moment, before breathing out. “I’m giving you one more chance. Tomorrow. Come by my place. You apparently know where I live.”
“Yeah,” Colby laughed awkwardly. “I’ll come by. Thank you… Sam.”
“Don’t thank me yet. I’ll see you later.” Sam stated, hanging up.
Once the call ended, Colby’s eyes stared down at his phone widely. He almost couldn’t believe that happened.
He inhaled sharply. “Sam just called me. He wants to meet me tomorrow.”
“That’s great.” Her voice just above a whisper.
“He wants to hear me out… he wants to give me another chance.” His face dropped with confusion. “How did he get my number?”
It hit Colby like a brick as he gazed up at the waitress, who bit her lip hiding her smile. “You…?”
“You weren’t the first person I showed the journal to,” she explained. “When you ran off, I was gonna go after you. As I got in your car, I saw this journal sticking out from under your seat. I read through it and… I knew I had to show Sam. I went back in and talked to him for an hour, showing him how much you were actually sorry. How much you had beat yourself up over hurting him. And then I gave him your number. I wasn’t sure if he was gonna call but-”
“Oh my God, you’re amazing!” Colby ran up to her, grabbing her by the waist and spinning her around. She gripped his shoulders tightly as they spun, laughing loudly into his ear. As her feet touched the ground, he stared into her eyes, his smile the brightest she had ever seen it. His hands glided up her body to her face, cupping her cheeks quickly. He smashed his lips against hers, his heart pounding as he did. Her hands lowered to his chest, her grasp on his shirt tightened as she felt herself lose her footing and back up into the car.
As they stumbled, he realized what he was doing, pulling away quickly. “Shit… I’m sorry. I-I shouldn’t have-”
“No, it’s okay,” She giggled. “I’m just… surprised.”
He exhaled, letting his arms fall away from her body. “Me too.”
They leaned against the car, keeping a slight distance from each other. A light blush rested on both their faces; however, it was hard to see with the setting sun, something they were both grateful for.
The waitress sighed, breaking the moment of silence. “I think I know why this happened. Why I was the only one who remembered you…”
He raised an eyebrow, slightly side-eyeing her. “Really?”
“I lied to you when we first met. I wanted to seem a bit cooler than I am, but I don’t think I can hide that anymore.” She began, nervously.
Colby’s face relaxed a little, surprised at her words. “Okay.”
“My friend didn’t introduce me to you guys… I introduced her… to you.” She confessed.
A soft grin came to his face. “I had a feeling.”
She rolled her eyes. “No, you didn’t.”
“Yes, I did! I totally did,” he snickered. “Not every fan knows I worked at Dairy Queen. And… no average fan would have helped me get Sam back the way you did.”
“I think there’s a reason for all of this. I think in your universe, your life… you don’t know me.” Her voice dropped suddenly, making Colby turn to her.
“That’s true, I don’t.” He nodded.
Her eyes met his, a sad glint reflecting in the moonlight. “But I think the reason for that is because… you’re not supposed to.”
“What do you mean?” He replied, his face twisting in confusion.
“I think you and I are only supposed to have met here, in this universe. But not in yours.” She glared up at the sky, “Maybe in some weird way, I’m your guardian or guide or something.”
Colby’s thoughts raced. “So, what you’re saying is-“
“This might be the last time you’ll ever see me. You did what you had to do. You got Sam and you to talk again.” Her voice cracked as she held back tears, “You can go home.”
He grabbed her hands, holding them close to his body. “But… I don’t want to leave if it means I don’t know you.”
A hitched breath fell from her lips, a smile appearing from his words. “If we’re meant to be, we’ll see each other again.”
“That’s not fair.” He shook his head, a deep frown settling on his face.
“I know, but it’s how it has to be.” She whispered.
He rested his forehead against her, breathing deeply. “Can I… get one more kiss?”
She bit her lip softly. “I thought you’d never ask.”
They leaned in, his breath fanning across her lips for a split second before he pulled away.
“Wait…” He shuddered. “I never got your name.”
A soft smile came to her lips. “I’ll tell you after.”
His arms wrapped around her, pressing her body into his as their lips collided. He held onto her for dear life, terrified that the moment he pulled away, she would be gone.
He could feel things around him slow down, almost melting away, but he couldn’t tell if it was from the beauty of their kiss making him dizzy. A whirling silence overcame his senses. A burning sensation sliced through his abdomen; his breath ripped from his lungs.
A heavy darkness overtook his vision and for the briefest of moments, he felt absolutely nothing.
Except her lips.
“How are you feeling?” Colby asked when you woke up from your nap. He was lying beside you, caressing your arm in the most wonderful way.
“I feel okay. I’m still really confused by all of this.” You admitted while turning to face the blue-eyed man beside you.
“Don’t worry, I’m confused too. But not about us. I know what I want to happen between us.” He pushed some of your hair behind your ear as he nuzzled close to you.
You happily let him pull you close. “What do you want to happen between us?” You knew what you wanted but you needed to make sure that Colby wanted the same, because you didn’t want to put all your feelings into a guy who doesn’t feel the same, but it felt like he did.
“Well.” He kissed your cheek. “I want to be with you. I want to pursue a relationship, despite the fact that our parents are engaged. I don’t care if this is wrong because all I want is to be with you.”
“You’re sure about this?”
“I am. Do you want that?” He sounded a bit scared to hear your answer.
“I do. I have liked you for way too long, to just let you go like that.” This answer satisfied him because he pressed a sweet kiss to your lips.
“Let’s see where this will go, okay?”
“That sounds perfect to me, Cole.” You both kissed again when there was a persistent knock at the door.
“Stay here, I will answer it.” He said pulling himself from the bed and making his way to the door, where the person knocked again. He opened it and immediately your mother pushed her way into the room.
“Could you give us a minute, Colby?” She asked not even looking his way.
“Umm no.” He answered clearly knowing she was going to yell at you.
“Excuse me?” She questioned finally looking at him and sending him a glare.
“This is my hotel room also, so you can’t kick me out.”
Your mother just rolled her eyes. “Whatever.” She grumbled and faced you, who was still in bed. “What the fuck was that at lunch?”
Of course, you knew she was going to give you hell for it, but you at least thought she would let you recover first. “I’m sorry I got sick?” You said in a questioning tone.
“Bullshit. You just wanted to cause a scene when something special happened to me.”
“No mother, I legitimately went off to puke. I wasn’t trying to cause a scene.” You pulled yourself to sit up in bed. Your mother still looked pissed.
“Yeah that’s hard to believe.”
“Why is that?”
“You always manage to find a way to ruin whatever is going good for me.”
She was being cryptic.
“How?”
“John proposed to me and instead of being happy for me, you make a bullshit excuse to get out of there instead of sitting there and enjoying the moment.”
“Would you have rather I thrown up all over the table, mother.” A level of sass was heard in your voice.
Her eyes were practically in slits as the anger went through her. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“I don’t know, what?”
“You’re a fucking spoiled little brat. Can’t you just let me be happy for once?”
“I don’t know why you think I’m stopping your happiness.”
“Because you walked right out of my engagement. That’s so fucking rude.”
“I already explained why.”
“I don’t buy it. Why don’t you want me to be happy?” She started to sound like a child at this point.
You still weren’t feeling completely well from lunch and her whining wasn’t helping at all. Colby looked like he was about to lose his patience.
You pulled yourself from the bed, to stand up in front of her. “Who said I didn’t want you to be happy?”
“You’ve sabotaged every chance of happiness I could have had. Your father left because of you. Then every time I tried to date; no man wanted to stay because I had a fucking child.”
Here we go again. She was blaming you for all her dating problems.
“I was four years old when my father left, how was I the one to make him leave?” You had a feeling you knew what she would say but you wanted to see if she would actually go that far.
“It’s because you were born. You were unexpected to us and he never wanted a child. He stayed for four years but he was never around. The two of us never wanted you.”
Her words slapped you in the face. It all came crashing down on you and you needed to sit down. You stepped back and sank down onto the bed.
Colby knew he had to step in now. “It’s time for you to leave.” He told your mom, and she didn’t look happy.
“Who are you to tell me to leave?” She was defensive.
“Mother please. I don’t feel good and you’ve said enough.” You argued.
She stared at you for a while before deciding to leave you alone finally. “You better change your attitude, Y/n.” She grumbled before rushing out of the room.
Her words swirled in your head. Tears blurred your vision as the gravity of her words fell on you.
“Y/n, baby. Please don’t listen to her. I don’t know what her problem is, but she had no reason to say those things to you.” Colby took a seat beside you and pulled you into his side.
“She’s right though. They never wanted me.” You mumbled into his chest, letting the tears fall.
“She’s a bitch for saying that to you. No parents should say something like that to their child. It doesn’t matter if it’s what she feels or not. That’s just fucked up.”
He was right but you couldn’t stop the tears. “But they don’t want me, Cole. My own parents don’t want me.” How pathetic.
Colby pulled you into his lap and wrapped you up into him. You two were particularly close in this position. He placed his forehead against yours and held you close.
“Y/n, sweetie. Fuck your parents. If they’re going to say that, then they don’t deserve you. They are the shit ones in this situation.” He pressed a kiss to your cheek.
You whimpered as he showered you with these intimate kisses.
“You have me, y/n. I’m not going anywhere. Please let me catch you when you fall and show you how loyal I can be. I will make sure you feel nothing but love and happiness from now on.”
“I want that.”
“You will have that. Trust me and I will make sure to bring you all the love, happiness, and acceptance one could ever ask for.”
You nodded and pressed your lips to his in a soft and truly sweet kiss. The feelings he gave you were intense, and you knew there was something much deeper between the two of you. His actions proved he felt it too.
“Thank you, Colby. I hate that I brought you into this but thank you for supporting me right now.” You were still snuggled up in his arms.
“Of course, I’m here to support you. Now what do you say we take a nap and then order some room service for dinner?”
“I like that idea. We don’t have to leave the room, so I’m down.”
He smiled and kissed your forehead, before leading you back to the bed and wrapping you up into his arms. He brought comfort to you, even when you weren’t feeling well.
**
The next morning, you woke up feeling better and to a text that said your mom wanted to have lunch with you. Alone. Colby woke up to you frowning over the text.
“What’s wrong, y/n?” He questioned as he looked down at your phone.
“My mother wants me to meet her for lunch, alone.” You said while still frowning.
“Damn. I guess there is no way you can get out of it, is there?” He asked while talking the phone from you.
“Nope, she will surely kill me if I bail on her. I already told her I would meet her in the lobby.”
“I’m sorry.”
You leaned over and kissed his cheek. “It’s okay, Cole. I shouldn’t be scared of my own mother. I’m hoping we can have a civilized conversation, especially if we’re in public.”
“Yes, hopefully that means she will stay levelheaded.”
You nodded but were still fretting meeting up with her. Who knows what she would say to upset you today? She seemed or be exceptionally good at making you upset. When you returned home, you thought she had changed, but she definitely had not changed.
“I can hang around and stop her if she gets out of hand?” He suggested with the cutest little smile.
“Thanks, that’s extremely sweet but no. I’m going to handle her on my own. I can do it.”
“If you’re sure.”
“I am. I need to talk to her, maybe tell her that she has to stop blaming my father leaving her, on me.”
Colby smiled at you. “You’re brilliant.”
You giggled. “Thank you, Colby. I have to get ready now.”
He grabbed my hand before I could leave the bed. “Take a shower with me first?”
“I don’t have that much time.”
He leaned in close and placed the sweetest kiss on the column of my neck. “Please, I promise to keep my hands to myself.”
His offer sounded so good. “Okay, but maybe I don’t want you to keep your hands to yourself.” He sent you a sexy wink, before he pulled you off to the bathroom for that shower.
Your mother was already waiting in the lobby when you exited the elevator. The nerves had bubbled to the top by the time you’d reached the bottom floor. You had no clue what her attitude would be like today and it scared you.
She turned and found you walking towards her. You couldn’t decipher her mood from that far away, but you tried to keep up a positive mood as you walked towards her.
“Good afternoon, y/n. Are you feeling better today?” Her question took you off guard.
“Ahh, yes. I’m feeling much better today.” You answered.
“Great, let’s get going.” She led you from the hotel out into the sunny streets of Boca Raton. It was midday, which meant that the streets were full of people milling about, doing whatever the city had to offer. “There’s this cute little café about a block away.” She said as you trailed her. She still hadn’t mentioned yesterday, which felt nice.
“Sounds good to me.” You answered as the two of you quietly made your way towards the café.
It wasn’t too busy when you got there, so you both were seated pretty quickly at a table that sat right by the open window. The waitress handed you menus and left you to look over them.
“Y/n, I need to apologize for the way I acted last night. I shouldn’t have done that at all. John and I talked, and he made me see the truth. It was unfair for me to treat you like that.” She said once she’d looked over the menu.
Your stomach dropped when she said John’s name. The only reason she was apologizing was because John convinced her to do so. Of course.
“Oh, thank you, mom.” You mumbled as the waitress came to take your orders. The tension was thick between the two of you, but you both pretended it was not.
Once the waitress took your orders, she left you and your mother alone again. “I should have never said what I did last night. I didn’t mean it, sweetie. It was messed up for me to put all this blame on you.”
“Mother, you have been putting blame on me since my father left.” You retorted, fighting the urge to roll your eyes.
“I know I have. I need to apologize for all of that. I know it’s hard to forgive me for all I have done, and I understand that you need time. But I need you to know that I’m sincerely sorry for the way I have treated you.”
“Why apologize now?”
“Well, I’m engaged to an amazing man. A man who has changed me for the better. You’re getting older and I realized I don’t want to drive you away. I already did when you left for college, and I can’t keep doing that. You’re going to get married one day. You’re going to have kids. I want to be there for you and for them.”
Her explanation made total sense, but it didn’t sound completely genuine and it concerned you. There was a chance she could easily turn on you if you did something she didn’t agree with. Something like sleeping with the guy that was going to become your stepbrother.
“Thank you, mom. Your apology means a lot to me, but we should take it slow. You did so much to me when I was growing up. It really messed me up. But I think I can try.” You explained.
She sent you a small smile. “That’s all I ask for. I want us to get along and I want to be a real mother to you. I promise to work on myself and we will see where it goes.” She suggested.
“Okay, that sounds like a plan.” You answered, feeling an inkling of doubt bubbling up inside of you.
**
Once lunch ended, your mother left quickly, claiming she had a spa reservation a few streets over. You just rolled your eyes and started to head back to the hotel. You’d texted Colby to tell him the lunch was over, but he hadn’t replied. Perhaps he had gotten busy.
As you walked, a figure caught your eyes. A tall blue haired guy was walking towards you with a huge smile on his face. It was Colby. He reached you and took your hand in his.
“Hey gorgeous, someone looks happy.” He commented as he led you down the street.
“Well, lunch went well with my mother. She apologized for what she said. I told her I needed to take it slow though.” You explained as Colby led you down a street that led away from the hotel.
“I’m happy it went better than you expected. I think it’s wise to take it slow.”
“Especially since she only apologized because your father talked to her.”
“Of course it’s like that. Sorry babe.” He leaned over and kissed your cheek before continuing to lead you down the street. The crowd had considerably thinned out.
“Where are we going?” You questioned as you caught glimpses of the ocean behind the buildings.
“I have a buddy who had a beach house here, and he’s not in town this week. So I figured we should go spend the day and perhaps the night there. To get away from the parents and of course have some alone time.”
“That sounds wonderful. But I need some clothes.”
Colby smirked and sent you a wink. “You won’t need any clothes, love.” This made you blush deeply. The thing that was blooming between the two of you, felt so natural.
The two of you walked up to a gorgeous beach house. It was small but extremely cute. It felt more your pace than the opulent hotel you were staying in.
“What happens if our parents go to find us and we aren’t there?” You questioned as he led you to the house.
“We don’t have to worry. My father told me he was taking your mother to a fancy dinner to celebrate and that you and I weren’t invited.” He unlocked the house and led you into the cozy little home.
“Perfect. Then we have an evening alone together.” You acknowledged.
Colby shut the door behind you before he lightly pushed you up against it. “We sure do, sweet girl.” He captured your lips in a passionate little kiss that left you breathless.
You happily kissed back, feeling true happiness while you were with him. He really made you feel wanted and appreciated. Something that was often hard to feel when you were around your mother for long periods of time.
He pulled away from your lips and his kisses started traveling down your neck. He sucked on the sensitive skin before he finally pulled away. You grabbed a hold of him and pulled him back, not done yet. Your lips landed on his in a flurry of passion.
Colby chuckled and broke the kiss again. “I love this baby, I really do, but I have plans for us.”
“What kind of plans?” You questioned, curious of what Colby planned for the two of you.
“My buddy has a boat, and so I packed up dinner for us and I figured we’d go for a nice boat ride. How does that sound?” He asked, taking your hand and leading you through the small house.
“I love it, but I don’t have a bathing suit.”
“You do. I lied when I said we didn’t need clothes. I packed us some clothes for tonight.”
You shook your head as he led you into the bedroom. On the bed was a bag that was full of your things.
You turned and kissed his cheek. “You’re the best.” Looking through the bag, you pulled your bathing suit out.
“I wouldn’t go that far. I just want us to have a fun time here, instead of being stuck at that hotel with our parents. I’m sure they love the alone time they are getting without us there.” He stated going through his own bag.
“Of course.” You excused yourself to the bathroom to put on your suit and get ready for the evening. Once you exited the bathroom, you found Colby in the main living area, checking over the food he’d packed for you both.
“You ready?” He looked you over and licked his lips at what he saw. That action alone, had your body growing hot with desire. How did this man do this to you?
“Yes.” You helped him with the stuff as he led you from the house out to the little dock off the backyard. There was a Sea Ray boat docked onto it. It was a pretty sizable boat. “Do you know how to use a boat?”
He smiled as you walked onto the dock. It rocked lightly with the waves. “I sure do. I used to go boating every summer with my father. He had me get my boating license when I turned 18. So you’re in safe hands.” Colby stopped at the boat and put the stuff you needed down. He hopped onto the boat and then grabbed the bags. You handed yours to him. Then he took your hand and helped you onto the boat.
He settled the bags before he started to undock the boat. Once it was free from the dock, he swiftly led the boat out to the open sea. You sat on the cushioned bench as you watched him navigate the water until you were on the open sea. You pulled on your sunglasses and relaxed until Colby turned around and mentioned that the two of you needed to put on sunscreen.
You put it on him first since he was still navigating the boat. He loved the feeling of your soft hands rubbing the lotion onto him. Your fingers traced the scratches you had left on his skin two days prior. They were fading, but you could still see them. Once you finished, Colby stopped the boat and allowed it to drift. He then took the sunscreen from you and started to apply it on you.
His strong hands rubbed it over your sensitive skin, causing goosebumps to form as he rubbed it all over. He rubbed it over your shoulder, letting his hand dip over your chest and tease the tops of your breasts. Then he focused on your back, and lower back. You could tell he was itching to touch you in all your sensitive places, but you were still too close to the shoreline for you to feel comfortable. Once he’d finished applying it, the two of you washed the excess lotion from your hands.
You once again took a seat and Colby began to move the boat again. He pointed out certain spots he would love to visit one day before the two of you were finally far enough from the shoreline. He anchored the boat.
“It’s so calming out here.” You said as you looked out into the water. The ocean wasn’t too wavy today, it was perfect.
“It is and I enjoy it. But I also enjoy my company.” His blue eyes sparkled in the sunlight, and it was beautiful.
“I think I like my company too.” You said teasing him.
“You think? Baby you better be sure of it because I’m about to show you how much you should enjoy being with me.”
“I would like that!”
He let out a cute laugh. “Of course, I should have known.” He leaned in and kissed your lips. “Do you want to swim for a bit?”
You nodded, happy to do anything with him. For the next hour, the two of you played in the water, messing around with each other and having a blast. The sun was starting to go down, but there was at least an hour in a half left of daylight.
Once you had exhausted yourselves swimming, you found yourself lying against Colby back on the boat. It was so sweet.
“Colby, can I ask you something?” You suddenly felt the need to ask this, so you wouldn’t step over the boundaries.
“You can ask anything.” He intertwined a hand with yours.
“How is your mom after what your father did to her?” He was quiet and you thought you had overstepped your bounds.
Colby squeezed your hand. “She’s better than she was when it first happened. When she first found out, she decided moving back to Kansas was the best choice for her and it hurt. I couldn’t go with her because I had to finish school. For so long, she refused to even open up about how she felt but when she did, it helped her move on. She’s now in a good relationship with a guy she dated in college and things are going well for her.”
You nodded. “So she’s okay now?”
“Yes, she is. I mean she still hates my father, and I don’t blame her, he’s such an asshole. I can’t even count the amount of women he’s had after the divorce. Cheating is just what he does, and I don’t think he will ever change.”
“My mother is going to completely see that, and I want to feel bad, but I can’t after what she has done to me.”
Colby kissed your neck sweetly. “Yeah, I wouldn’t feel bad either. She’s been so horrible to you and it’s not fair.”
“I’m a little happy you have seen the way she treats me. No one else ever believed me when I talked about it. My own father just said I was making up things for attention like many children of divorced parents do. It always been hell.”
He hated hearing that, but he knew exactly how you felt. His own father accused him of it, and honestly sometimes he was just acting out for attention. But with your mother, it was a different story.
“You never deserved it at all. We’re going to do what we can to make sure she treats you with the respect you deserve.” Just being here with him was honestly so good for you. Also hearing that he was here to support you made everything feel better.
“Thank you.” You brought your intertwined hands up and kissed his knuckles.
He buried his face into your neck. The two of you were quiet as you just basked in the comfort of being there together and being away from your parents. The warm sun on your skin was making you feel sleepy and Colby just let you relax against him.
At some point, after the sun started to set, Colby suggested some dinner and you happily agreed. He set up a little picnic for the two of you on the boat. He even packed some wine.
“This is so cute. Colby Brock, you’re secretly a romantic, aren’t you?” You teased as you sipped some wine.
“Baby, it’s not a secret. Not anymore at least. I find it’s easy when I’m with you.” He really felt that you brought out the best in him and he wished he would have made a move before you both graduated from high school.
“I love this side of you. A lot. I have never had a guy go out of his way to get a beach house for us as well as take us out on a boat and prepare dinner.” If heart eyes were a real visible thing, you knew you would have them.
Colby leaned over and kissed you like he had been doing all day. It never got old. “Good, I would expect more of this from me. Because I just want to spoil you and make you happy.”
“I will happily accept this, as long as I can spoil you in return.”
“Of course. Oh wow, look out there. I just saw some dolphins.” He pointed out into the ocean where some more dolphins jumped up making you giggle.
“That’s so cute.” Once again, your hands were intertwined, and you just had the sweetest little boat date you could have ever imagined.
