Updated stream list
I've been getting a lot of questions/requests regarding possible streams and thought it might be helpful to catalog everything we've watched so far! I'll keep it pinned and updated moving forward.
Longtime crowd favorites (streamed at least three times) are marked with a single asterisk.
Why isn’t [specific actor/video] on this list?
The video is currently marked not for trade.
We haven’t gotten to it yet.
The footage does not exist or is too incomplete.
It isn't on a platform I can stream it from.
There's something particularly off-putting about the video or actor.
How can I get a copy of a video listed here?
There's a list of publicly available bootlegs here, and there are many other adaptations on the Phantom Retrospective channel. Otherwise, contact @glassprism (or another trader) for a possible trade, or check her website for info on which master(s) to contact.
For general stream info, please see the Saturday Streams FAQ.
On to the list!

Taylor Swift Tours Masterpost
Hey everyone! For absolutely no reason at all, I’ve decided to compile a masterpost of all the regular setlists, surprise songs, covers, and guests on Taylor’s tours with links to YouTube videos when available (I’m only including videos that weren’t featured in official tour movies). I’ve noticed that, although there are posts like this for specific tours, like Red or reputation, some of this information is pretty hard to find, and it might be useful to some to have it all in one place. Also, I’m something of a Taylor Swift live performance ~connoisseur (💀), so I thought I might share. :) Here we go
Note: This is only part one. I don’t know when the posts for Red, 1989, and reputation will be up.
Part One: Fearless & Speak Now
Fearless Tour (April 23, 2009-July 10, 2010)
This tour did not feature a ‘surprise song slot,’ but she did sometimes change the setlist up a bit. She also brought out a couple of surprise guests (most notably John Mayer and Katy Perry), but not nearly as many as she did on her later tours.
Regular setlist: Fearless Tour
1. ‘You Belong with Me’
2. ‘Our Song’
3. ‘Tell Me Why’
4. ‘Teardrops on My Guitar’
5. ‘Fearless’
6. ‘Forever & Always’
7. ‘Hey Stephen’
8. ‘Fifteen’
9. ‘Tim McGraw’
10. ‘White Horse’ (x)
11. ‘Love Story’
12. ‘The Way I Loved You’ (x)
13. ‘You’re Not Sorry’ / ‘What Goes Around… Comes Around’ (x)
14. ‘Picture to Burn’
15. ‘Change’ (x)
16. ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ (2009) (x) OR ‘Today Was a Fairytale’ (2010)
17. ‘Should’ve Said No’ (extended version)
Footnotes:
*Starting from the show in Uncasville, Connecticut on August 28, 2009, ‘Change’ was removed from the setlist. It was added back in Greensville, South Carolina on September 4, 2009. Starting from the show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 1, 2009, it was removed again.
*European shows on the 2009 leg often removed ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ as well as ‘Change.’
*Starting from the show in Brisbane, Australia on February 4, 2010, ‘Today Was a Fairytale’ replaced ‘I’m Only Me When I’m with You’ in the encore.
Surprise songs:
1. ‘The Best Day’ - Evansville, Indiana (April 23, 2009) Note: This was actually the first show of the tour. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a video of this performance.
2. ‘Two Is Better Than One’ - Brisbane, Australia (February 4, 2010) (x)
3. ‘The Best Day’ - Moline, Illinois (May 8, 2010) (x)
4. ‘Jump Then Fall’ - Foxborough, Massachusetts (June 5, 2010) (x)
Surprise guest performances:
1. ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’ and ‘White Horse’ (already part of the regular acoustic set but performed as a duet here) with John Mayer - Los Angeles, CA (May 22, 2009) (x)
2. ‘The Way You Love Me’ with Faith Hill - Nashville, TN (September 12, 2009) (x)
3. ‘Hot N Cold’ with Katy Perry - Los Angeles, CA (April 15, 2010)
Speak Now World Tour (February 9, 2011-March 18, 2012)
Regular setlists:
Eurasia (February 9, 2011-March 30, 2011)
Note: All of the performances linked below are from the Eurasian leg. Therefore, their quality is questionable. I’m only including these because this leg had a slightly different wardrobe than the North American leg which was recorded for the tour movie. I’m not including videos from performances where the costume is the same.
1. ‘Sparks Fly’
2. ‘Mine’
3. ‘The Story of Us’
4. ‘Back to December’ / ‘Apologize’ / ‘You’re Not Sorry’ (x)
5. ‘Better Than Revenge’ (x)
6. ‘Speak Now’
7. ‘Fearless’ / ‘I’m Yours’ / ‘Hey, Soul Sister’
8. ‘Fifteen’ (x)
9. ‘You Belong with Me’
10. ‘Dear John’ (x) - I’m only including this video because she wore her hair loose lol
11. ‘Enchanted’ (x)
12. ‘Long Live’ (x)
13. ‘Love Story’ (x)
North America & Oceania (May 21, 2011-March 18, 2012)
This is based solely on the first North American show
1. ‘Sparks Fly’
2. ‘Mine’
3. ‘The Story of Us’
4. ‘Our Song’
5. ‘Mean’
6. ‘Back to December’ / ‘Apologize’ / ‘You’re Not Sorry’
7. ‘Better Than Revenge’
8. ‘Speak Now’
9. ‘Fearless’ / ‘I’m Yours’ / ‘Hey, Soul Sister’
10. ‘Last Kiss’
11. ‘You Belong with Me’
12. ‘Dear John’
13. ‘Enchanted’
14. ‘Haunted’
15. ‘Long Live’
16. ‘Fifteen’
17. ‘Love Story’
Notes:
Starting from the show in Toronto, Canada on July 15, 2011, Taylor started playing acoustic covers right after her performance of ‘Last Kiss.’
Starting from the show in Denver, CO, on September 27, 2011, ‘Ours’ was added to the encore, right before the performance of ‘Fifteen’. This marked the live debut of the song. If Taylor had a surprise guest, this was the song she would usually cut from the setlist.
Starting from the show in Perth, Australia on March 2, 2012, ‘Safe & Sound’ (x) was added to the encore. ‘Ours’ (x) was shifted to the acoustic set and was played right before ‘Last Kiss.’ It was only skipped at the show in Auckland on March 17. I’m including a video because, although the performance from the encore was featured in the tour movie, this version takes place on the B-stage and has a different costume (the purple Susan Hilferty dress she wore for half the show lol).
At the shows in Melbourne, Australia on March 12, 2012 and Auckland, New Zealand on March 16, 2012, ‘Fearless’ was skipped.
Surprise covers:
1. ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ by Bon Jovi - Newark, NJ (July 19, 2011) (x)

Episode 1 - Still Hot, Still Sandy, Still a Buncha Liars
Tumblr media
Jeff begins his narration as a train bends around the rocks of the Mojave Desert. He says, “Since humanities inception, societies rise and societies fall. Societies evolve. Societies change. And so, Survivor is once again changing things up!”
The camera pans to Jeff on horseback standing over the Grand Canyon, “Welcome to Survivor: Wild West! We’ve brought back some of your favorite Survivors from west of the Mississippi. They’ll be stranded outside an old ghost town in the Mojave Desert with only the supplies on their back and whatever they can scavenge in the remains of this town.”
“People forget, a lot of the first cowboys were black.” Carl says in a talking head before adjusting his hat.
Tumblr media
Probst rides his clydesdale to the middle of an intersection. He looks around the skeletons of buildings and notices a saloon on the corner. He ties his horse to the hitching post outside and walks inside. The spurs on his boots spin as he steps in front of the cast. The 20 castaways sit around the saloon, at the bar stools and the poker tables, on the stairs and the piano bench. Jeff welcomes the cast of returnees to the new season. He first calls out Cao Boi, “Cao Boi, obviously, you’re the first person we call when we start to think about a Wild West theme.”
“It’s not the Wild West without a cow boy,” Cao Boi says.
“From one Cowboy to another, Colby, our first season in America, we need to get Colby Donaldson.”
“Yeah, I guess I was America’s Favorite Son for a while,” he answers.
Tumblr media
“Still are,” Jerri interjects from the other side of the room.
Tumblr media
“Jerri,” Jeff says turning his attention to her, “Why are you here on the Wild West season?”
“Well, I’ve already got the hat,” Jerri jokes as she tips her hat, “but, I’m just here to bother Colby. Same as always.”
Colby rolls his eyes and looks back to Jeff.
“Not excited to see Jerri, Colby?” Jeff asks.
“How could I not be excited to see Jerri Manthey? It’s been 20 years,” Colby says, presenting a purposeful smile.
Jeff then turns to Michaela, “Michaela, how old were you when Colby was first on Survivor?”
“I woulda been eleven, Jeff.”
Tumblr media
Colby laughs at his own age.
“So, was Colby an idol of yours at that age,” Jeff asks.
“Honestly,” Michaela says, “not really. I mean, it was cool that he was from Texas and all cause I’m from Texas, but no I couldn’t relate to him. To hear you call him the proto-American, I just have to ask, ‘Who’s America?’ I just don’t see what makes Colby Donaldson any more American than Michaela Bradshaw.”
“Couldn’t have said it better myself, Michaela,” Jeff says, “And with that, the season begins. Teal tribe, you are Suhtai,” he tosses the tribe to his left a satchel with their buffs and a map to their camp in some nearby hills. “Orange tribe, you are Tsitsistas.” He does the same for the tribe to his right.
“Your tribes are named after two Native American tribes who travelled together until the early 19th Century, the two tribes came together, or merged, and became known as the Cheyenne people,” Jeff explains, “Now, you have 30 minutes to scavenge this town. There are supplies hidden throughout these ruins. As of now, Survivor: Wild Wild West is on.”
Jeff leaves the saloon and the hunt for supplies begins. A few people dive over the bar for any bottles of alcohol they can find. Some whiskey, gin and red wine are found by Wendy Diaz.
“I don’t even really drink,” Wendy says in a talking head, “but I noticed the label on the wine bottle was a little... oh i don’t know... curled up in the corner, so I took it!”
Tumblr media
Wendy runs off to a corner away from everyone else to unfurl the wine bottle. She crouches under a table to avoid any witnesses when she sees Russell and Brandon Hantz enter the room to chat.
“But then,” Wendy continues in her talking head, “Russell and Brandon showed up! And Russell is on my tribe!! And I hate Russell.”
Russell tells Brandon he’ll take care of him, he just needs to get to the merge. “Find an idol if you can,” Russell advises.
“But then,” Wendy’s narration continues.
Wendy removes the wine label when the Hantzs leave.
“There’s Gold in them thar hills!” She exclaims, reading the label in her talking head.
Wardog opens a crate of supplies behind the saloon where he finds rations, kerosene and a small tube he suspects is an advantage.
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a coyote sits on the porch of a saloon.
Tumblr media
After the scavenging of the town, each tribe hikes to their camp. At the Tsitsistas Camp, Colby builds a fire and Ben gathers everyone around, “Alright, so let’s all introduce ourselves. My name is Ben Driebergen. I’m 37 years old. I have a wife & kids. I fought in the marines and then I played in Survivor: Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers and again last season in Winners at War. Who’s Next?”
Tumblr media
“Yeah, hi, I’m Lauren, 23, I played in Edge of Extinction. No kids. No significant other. Just… little ol’ me,” Lauren says with a grimace.
Tumblr media
“Uh, I’m Kass, Chaos Kass, you may have heard, I played in Cagayan and again in Cambodia… or Second Chances I guess”
Tumblr media
“Hey, I’m Ken. I played Millennials vs Gen X. I was on the Gen X tribe. I am also single.”
Tumblr media
“Hey everyone, yeah, I’m Brandon. I’m Russell’s nephew.“
Tumblr media
Everyone stares at him and nods slightly.
“Hi, I’m Kim-”
“And, I just want you all to know,” Brandon continues, “I know last time I played, things didn’t look so great. I want you all to know, I’m good now. I’m not gonna throw any tantrums or any fits or anything. I’m gonna be good. I’m good now.”
Kimmi Kappenberg says, “Alright, I’m Kimmi, I played in Season TWO” she holds up two fingers, “And then again in Second Chances.” She mirrors the peace sign she made on the other hand for “Second Chances.”
Tumblr media
“Hi, I’m Bi. I played in David vs Goliath but had to leave early because of an injury.“
Tumblr media
“And I’m Lisa! I played in the Philippines like a hundred years ago.”
Tumblr media
After a few minutes of small talk, people begin to go their separate ways. Ben, Brandon, Kass, Lauren, Ken and Kimmi use some wood they’d taken from town to build a shelter. Lisa pulls Bi aside to lend a shoulder if Bi wanted to talk about losing her opportunity. Colby continues to work on the fire as Michaela sits with him.
As the desert sun beats down on him, Colby rubs two sticks together. He sweats through his shirt. Michaela reaches in her pocket, “Colby,”
He looks up. Sweat drips from his eyelash into his eye.
“You think these might help,” and she pulls out a dry box of matches, “I found them next to a stove back in town. They’re old and they don’t look like they’ll work but it’s worth a try.”
“Sure. You know,” Colby says as he places the dusty match against its dustier box, “I don’t think of myself as more American than you.”
The match lights and he brings it to the kindling to ignite. He looks back to Michaela, “After everything going on, you know, the world’s fucked right now. Honestly, living in the desert for a month and a half sounds alright right about now,” Colby jokes.
“The world certainly is fucked right now,” Michaela laughs, “You’re not wrong, Colby.”
“It’s been fucked for you guys for a while though, right?”
“’You guys’ meaning black folks?”
“Well, yes and no. I just mean, people who don’t look exactly like me.”
“Ha,” she laughs, “sure, that’s true.”
“I’m sorry. I had no idea.”
“It’s alright. You’re learning.”
“I know. I just feel bad.”
“I’m not asking for your pity, Colby. Just asking for your assistance.”
“You know,” he says, “I’ve been doing a lot of listening since everything started and what I keep hearing is ‘Listen to black women.’ So, that’s what I’m gonna do. I really do want to help, however I can.”
She looks at him, taking in his intention. She sticks out her hand for him to take and they shake hands.
“Colby’s a good dude,” Michaela explains in a talking head, “He means well. That’s good. ”
Tumblr media
“Okay, so, with us working together now,” Michaela asks, “who would you recommend we go for first?”
Colby looks down toward Bi and Lisa, then at the group building the shelter, then back at Michaela, “How about Ben?”
“I don’t see why not. He’s already won. Have you won?”
“Not once. In 20 years, never once.”
“Me neither.”
The two of them stare down Ben from across the camp.
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a desert collared lizard scurries from the shade of one rock to the shade of another.
Tumblr media
At the Suhtai Camp, everyone drops their things. Jerri immediately turns to Russell, opens her arms and says “Russell, my old friend!”
“Jerri, hello again,” he says.
“I saw your nephew is here.”
“Yeah, we’ll see about that,” he chuckles.
Carl calls everyone to the center of camp and introduces himself, “Hi everybody, I’m Carl, I played in David vs Goliath, along with Elizabeth.”
“Oh, hi, yeah, Carl’s right, we played David vs Goliath together. We were on the Davids tribe.”
Tumblr media
“Oh! I played my season with Taylor!” Hannah Shapiro exclaims.
Tumblr media
“Hey everybody… I’m Taylor, or Tails. We played uh…”
Tumblr media
“Millennials vs Gen X!” Hannah finishes.
“Well, I think I’m the only person from my season, I’m Todd,” Todd says.
“What’s up, man,” Taylor says.
“I’m the only representative from my season too. I am Cao Boi, obviously. I was on Cook Islands.”
Tumblr media
“I was on the same tribe as Wardog!” Wendy exclaims.
“Wendy!” Wardog shouts, as if no one would have figured it out.
Tumblr media
“We were on the Edge!” Wendy explains, “of Extinction!”
“Wendy’s funny, man,” Taylor says in a talking head, “She’s kinda uhh cooky but she’s fun, man.”
“Do you want to go get water,” Jerri asks Russell.
“Yeah,” he mutters, “Grab one of them young kids.”
Jerri looks over the crowd of people getting to know one another, then looks back at Russell and grins, “Let’s go.”
As they make their way through camp, Jerri turns to Wendy, “Do you want to come get water?”
Wendy nods and follows Jerri and Russell.
“So,” Russell starts with his deceptively charming southern grin, “What do you think of everyone so far?”
Tumblr media
“Well, so far everyone seems cool! Although, maybe I’m not the best judge of character. I didn’t make it far my first time out.”
Russell and Jerri make pouty faces at each other outside of Wendy’s view.
“Well, you don’t have to worry about that this time, honey,” Jerri promises.
“Yeah, you’re with us now,” Russell assures her.
Wendy nods in agreement to Russell and Jerri, but in a talking head yells, “Who said I wanted to be in an alliance with you, RUSSELL?!”
The three of them find the camp’s well. It’s nestled amongst a rock formation. Overhead, there’s a sign deeming the well, “The Oasis." Wendy eyes a small hill on their way back, then explains in a talking head, “There was a little crease in the rocks where it looked like something could be hidden and the sand around it looked... weird... So, after we all got back to camp and sat around the campfire, I got up to use the bathroom aaaand…” she pulls out a two and half inch tall gold nugget, “There’s gold in them hills! It’s the idol!”
Tumblr media
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a coyote surveys the landscape.
When he has a moment alone, Wardog sneaks off to open the advantage he found in the scavenge. He reaches a finger inside and finds a note reading “Extra Vote” and one voting parchment.
“Holy shit. Alright. Alright. That’s good.”
Tumblr media
The next morning at the Suhtai camp, each survivor wakes from their tent and makes their way to the fire. Kass is the first person awake and begins to tend to the fire. Lauren wakes shortly after her and yawns for what feels like eternity, then sits near the fire with Kass.
“How long you been up,” she asks through the remnants of her yawn.
“Oh, just a little bit.”
“You go looking for an idol?”
“Please, Lauren, it’s far too early to worry about that.”
Ken saunters his way around the campfire from the tent.
“Morning folks, What’s on the docket for today?”
“There’s a challenge,” Kass tells him.
“Oh, right on. I think we’re pretty strong, so we should be alright. Didn’t you play soccer, Lauren?”
“I-- yeah, I did.”
“So you’re probably pretty strong. Michaela’s strong, Brandon’s probably strong, Bi’s a boxer so she must be strong.”
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a lone desert cottontail rabbit hops over and under the rocks, looking for shelter.
Tumblr media
At high noon, both tribes head to their first immunity challenge. Jeff explains, “Each tribe will have a conestoga wagon. You must move your cart through various obstacles, disassembling and reassembling pieces throughout. Along the way, you will collect puzzle pieces. Then, two people from each tribe will solve the puzzle. First tribe to complete the puzzle wins immunity.”
Tumblr media
Kass and Michaela are chosen as the puzzle solvers for Tsitsistas. Todd and Cao Boi volunteer for the puzzle on Suhtai.
Both tribes fumble a bit as they figure out how to situate themselves around their large conestoga wagons. Once they finally do, Tsitsistas takes a slight lead. Lisa is slow getting back to her position after the reassembling portion of the challenge. Brandon starts yelling they’re “not going to win” until Michaela yells from the puzzle, “Bro, just shut up and get it done.” The disorder causes Suhtai to catch up and take the lead, inciting Brandon further.
“We got it on the puzzle,” Michaela promises, “Be cool, Brandon.”
Suhtai makes it to their puzzle first and begins working on it, but Tsitsistas is only a few steps behind. As soon as Kass places a tile, Todd is right behind her, then Michaela is right behind him, then Cao Boi next. The four of them are finding pieces with no trouble. When Suhtai goes up by a piece, Tsitsistas is right behind and vice versa. Todd and Cao Boi slam their final piece in and call Jeff. He checks it as Kass and Michaela continue working. “Suhtai thinks they have it,” he places one hand on the puzzle as he looks it over, “That is not right!”
Kass and Michaela clamor for Jeff. He does the same to their puzzle and announces, “Tsitsistas wins immunity!”
In a talking head, Todd blames the loss on Cao Boi after he placed two pieces in their opposite places, “I just don’t understand why you would volunteer yourself and then miss something like that!”
Tumblr media
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a purple-throated hummingbird hovers over a nest.
Back at the Suhtai camp, the first vote scramble begins. Todd goes to Taylor first, “Look bro, we shoulda had that challenge.”
“Yeah, man.”
“Cao Boi fucked us,” Todd says, mimicking Taylor’s cadence, “He misplaced two of the pieces.”
“Why would he do that,” Taylor genuinely asks.
“I don’t know, man, but we gotta get him out.”
“You got it man. Let’s do it. I’ll talk to Hannah.”
Taylor wanders over to Hannah, who’s sitting with Wendy, “Han.”
“What’s up, Taylor?”
“So, I was just talking to Todd, he said it’s Cao Boi’s fault we lost. Yeah. So, we have to take him out.”
“Tonight?”
“I mean, yeah. Are you down?”
“Yeah, I mean, sure. That works for me.”
“Wendy, are you down to vote Cao Boi?”
“Sure!”
After Taylor leaves, Hannah asks Wendy if she’s got Wardog.
“I think so. At least, I can get him to vote with us this time.”
“Okay, That’s good. Wardog’s good.”
“Wardog!” Wendy yells from across the camp.
“Wendy, hey, what’s up,” he asks as he walks over.
“What do you think of Cao Boi,” Hannah asks.
“I’ve got no allegiance to Cao Boi. You guys want to do Cao Boi tonight?”
“Yeah,” Hannah says.
“Alright, let’s do it,” Wardog says.
Meanwhile, Cao Boi recognizes he’s being targeted. He goes first to Todd and explains, “Everyone here on our tribe has played with someone else on our tribe. Some people have played with people on the other side. You & me, though? We haven’t played with anyone else. Why don’t you and I start something?”
“What are you thinking?”
“Jerri and Russell, that’s a strong connection. They went far together in Heroes vs Villains. You know who else they went far with? Colby. Is there a better story in Survivor history than Jerri and Colby?”
“So, Jerri?”
“I’m just saying. With Jerri gone, Russell and Colby aren’t working together. With Jerri there, they might.”
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a bushel of daisies blow in the wind.
Tumblr media
Wendy goes to Russell and Jerri to tell them the Cao Boi plan. They hear the plan, then Russell asks, “Who came up with this?”
“Todd,” she tells them, “Hannah and Taylor already agreed to it. And Wardog.”
“Thanks, Wendy,” Jerri says.
“This is very helpful information,” Russell says, sounding more condescending than he realizes.
In a talking head, Wendy is exasperated, “He talks to me like I’m a child. I can’t stand him. I wish we were taking him out tonight.”
After Wendy leaves, Jerri points out to Russell that Todd and Cao Boi are going to team up to take out the other couples. She believes she’s the target.
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a mantis prays.
Tumblr media
Cao Boi approaches Carl and Elizabeth and gives them his pitch for Jerri. They hear him out and agree to the plan. He then finds Wendy shortly before Tribal Council. “Wendy,” he says, “We’re voting Jerri tonight.”
“Okay,” she agrees without question.
As the sun sets over the horizon and the temperature drops, the Suhtai tribe join Jeff around a campfire outside a cave. Unlike previous tribal councils, this season’s has only one row of seating around the fire so everyone is in full view of one another the whole time. The voting booth is inside a small cave in the nearby hills. “So,” Jeff begins with his infectious grin, “Here we are. Survivor 41. Tribal Council. How does it feel, Wardog?”
Tumblr media
“Honestly, Jeff, it sucks. No one ever wants to be here.”
“How about being in the desert, Russell? Any different?”
“It’s still hot, still sandy, still a buncha liars. Don’t matter if it’s Samoa, Nicaragua, Fiji or right here in the Wild West. It’s still Survivor and I’m still the best at it.”
“Haha yeah, alright, dude,” Taylor laughs.
Jeff and Russell turn to Taylor to finish.
“You’ve never even won, dude. How can you call yourself the best?”
“Gotten a lot further than you, bro.”
“Alright, bro. We’ll see.”
“Are you voting for me tonight?”
“No,” Taylor laughs.
“Who are you voting for?”
“Cao Boi! He fucked us in the challenge! Todd said!”
“Alright,” Russell says with a quiet grin before he turns back to Probst.
“Alright, with that, It is time to vote. Taylor, you’re up first.”
Taylor gets up and proudly votes. The other nine make their votes. Jeff tallies the votes and returns to read the votes. “If anyone has the hidden immunity idol and you’d like to play it, now would be the time to do so.” No one stands up. Jeff reads the votes. “Cao Boi, Jerri, Cao Boi, Cao Boi, Cao Boi, First Person voted out of Survivor: Wild West: Cao Boi.”

"Are you sure you don't want me to come with?" Colby asks for the millionth time.
My mother asked to meet with me. When I told Colby, he was worried that something would happen like last time and he wouldn't be there to protect me. After texting back with my mother she assured me that it was only going to be the two of us. She even suggested meeting at the diner we used to go to when I was little. I only agreed because of that. I have a lot of good family memories that don't include my father at the diner it brings me some comfort that this will go well.
"Babe, it's fine. Just come over in like two to three hours and we can hide from the world together." I reassure him.
The leak only happened three days ago. I've spent the past two days locked in my apartment. I refused to see or speak to anyone. Colby only partly obeyed my wished. He stayed at the house to give me my boundaries but he would still text and call me constantly to check on me. I needed a few days alone to try to process everything and I can't do that properly if Colby is cuddling with me all day; that would only make me forget about my problems.
"Okay, I'll come over soon. If you aren't there I'll let myself in and wait for you."
"That's fine. I'll see you later."
I open the familiar door to the diner. It looks the same as it did years ago. Suddenly, I'm nine years old again and my mother picked up my brothers and me early from school to take us to the doctor's office for check-ups. I spot my mother familiar brown hair. A small smile appears on my face. Maybe this the time will be different. As I walk closer to her I make sure to hide my smile.
"Hello, mother," I say as I sit down across from her. She looks up from her phone and her seemingly constant disappointed face does not disappear.
"Isabella, I can't stay long." She says as she puts her phone away.
"Then, why did you say to meet at a diner? We could have met at a Starbucks or—"
"We saw those pictures and videos of you." My mother says flatly. She barely makes eye contact and stares mostly at her cup of coffee before looking at me. No, it's more like she's looking through me.
"Y-you did? What do you mean by 'we'?"
"All of us, your cousin was the one to tell me. The entire family has seen them at this point. We also heard about you being fired from your management company. " What she doesn't say but I know she means that everyone has seen them including him.
"The situation is more complicated than you think. I didn't know about them being taken."
"Do you really think I would believe a single thing you've said after what you've put this family through?" Her eyebrows furrow but she speaks in a hushed voice.
"Excuse me?" My slightly raised voice only seems to anger her more. She gives me a look that warns me to be quiet.
"After you... spread those lies about what your father was doing to you, that damaged our family image."
"I didn't lie. They actually did happen. Why would I—why would anyone lie in detail about that?"
"I've read about girls like you who lie about things just to get attention or because something is wrong mentally. We gave you enough attention growing up so it must be the latter."
"I have never lied to you in my entire life." My voice is low but my voice is strong enough for her to hear the seriousness in my tone.
"So secretly moving out of the house on your 18th birthday and tell me you were going to be out with friends isn't lying?"
"I had to get out of there. I had to put myself first and leave before things got worse."
"I don't remember raising such a selfish whore."
That stung. I pause for a second trying to call myself down.
"I needed a way to numb the pain and block out what was happening at home. I couldn't talk to anyone and that's my fault. I didn't want Joey and Benji to be pulled out of the house and have their lives ripped apart. I didn't want you to have to lose all three of your kids as well as your husband. Even when I was going through all that I put you and my older brothers first. I should have told grandma or a teacher or anybody else."
"Stop fixating on the story you created in your head. Your father is a great man who would never lay his hand on any child, especially his own daughter."
"You know what mom, for your sake I've been dancing around this because I didn't want to cause you more pain than this information. But I'm going to say it because it is no longer healthy for me. He raped me, mom. Repeatedly for six years, dad raped me in my own bedroom at night when you were fast asleep. Before that, for as long as I could remember, he molested me almost daily. I know that you don't want to believe it and that's it hard to believe but it's true. He threatened me to avoid me from saying anything and when I finally got the courage to tell someone, you didn't believe me. You called me a liar and told everyone in the family that I was mentally unstable and told them not to believe me if I told them what was happening at home. Now you're going to sit here, in one of the places that I have so many happy memories, and do it all over again?" My mother looked taken aback by my words.
As she is about to open her mouth to reply the waitress comes over to the table and places a water cup in front of me. She looks between my mother and I. Maybe she could sense the tension between us and tried to defuse it. Maybe she's worried that we're just going to sit here and not order. I turn to her and nicely say we're fine. I turn back to my mother and see that her expression of shock and hurt have not left her face. The waitress leaves and my mother clears her throat and sits up straight.
"Don't call me that?" She says suddenly.
"Don't call you what?" I ask confused.
"Mom or mother or any other variation of the word."
"I don't—"
"When I asked you to meet with me, it was to tell you that you are no longer welcomed as a member of the family."
"Excuse me? You're kicking me out of the family?"
"You're behavior as of late has been unacceptable. Accusing Steven of such things was horrendous and traumatizing for all members of the family. To find out that you've been running around Los Angles like a slut and spreading your legs for any boy with a cute face and partying doing God knows what else is where we have to draw the line. Think about your brothers, who are actually in college trying to do something with their lives? Or your cousins? Your aunts and uncles? You think that just because you're rich enough to ruin your life you can ruin all of ours? We've had enough. You're dragging all of us down with you and tarnishing our family name in the process. I should have aborted you when I had the chance."
"I wish you had, not being born at all would probably have been better than being born into this shit show. Not that you'd care but do you know how many times I almost killed myself before I told you about what was happening? Or how much those thoughts multiplied when you told me that I was lying? Just to make things easier for everyone, I thought it would have been better to die."
"Maybe you should have, you would have saved everyone from going through all that you put us through." I stare at her in disbelief as she brushes off what she just said and reaches into her purse to grab her wallet. I quickly pull at mine and grab a $20 bill and a $50 bill. I slam the $20 bill on the table in front of her.
"No, no Lisa. You invited me out, the least I can do is pay for your coffee. Keep the change." I say flatly before getting up to leave. Before walking out of the diner I place the $50 bill in the tip jar. If they had to watch that loving family moment, they might as well get a tip from it.
When I walk out of the diner I'm visibly shaking. My face is dry and it's like my body is about to burst from all the pent up emotion. I try my best to keep it in because the last thing I need is for KeemStar talking about me having a mental breakdown in public. My head isn't even controlling my body anymore. I start walking and don't stop until I'm inside a small liquor store. I walk around mindlessly for a few seconds replaying the conversation in my head over and over again.
When I snap out of it I'm in the section with medical supplies. I eye a bottle of sleeping pills and hesitate before picking it up and walking to the counter. The woman at the counter scans my bottle not even paying attention to me. While she does that I quickly order an uber to take me home.
"Anything else?" She asked, probably wishing I don't so she can go back to doing whatever she was doing before.
"...Yeah, give me a bottle of vodka. I don't care which one." I say as I pull out my debit card. For the first time in my life, she doesn't ID me. She just looks at me for a second and then goes and gets a bottle from behind her before finishing ringing me up. Maybe her day is going just about as great as mine is and she doesn't care either.
When I walk out of the liquor store my Uber was already waiting for me. It isn't until I sit myself down into the car that I realized I bought. The rational part of my brain that usually tells me to stop doesn't. It agrees with the irrational me. Or maybe, the rational part of me is the one controlling me right now. My own mother agrees and mother knows best I guess.
**TRIGGER WARNING**
When I get into my apartment that's when all hell breaks loose. I close and lock the door and slide my back against it and cry and scream. Not only are the emotions I was holding from the conversation with my mother surfacing, but it feels like every single emotion I've ever felt is making an appearance too. I made up my mind in the car that I was going to go through with it. The whole time there was a little part of the rational side of me that kept thinking about Colby. I couldn't do this to him or anyone else the little family that I made with his friends over the past few months. But another part of me argues that I always put others before me my whole life, I deserve to put me first for once.
After calming myself down a bit I managed to get myself off the floor and placing the two bottles on the coffee table before getting a few things from my room. I walk out of my room and placed what I grabbed on the coffee table too. I wipe my tears and examine everything in front of me. I grabbed the notebook where I document everything about mine and Colby's relationship, a piece of paper, a pen, and an envelope. I can't make the biggest commitment of my life without letting Colby know how I feel and how none of this is his fault.
After pouring all my feelings and thoughts for Colby I scribble his name on the envelope and tuck it into the notebook. I took a few shots from the vodka bottle before tearfully taking small handfuls of the sleeping pills until the bottle was finished. I sat on the couch with the vodka bottle in one hand and my phone in the other. I continue to take sips; the taste seems to be numb to my mouth but still burns my throat as I force it down. I scroll through pictures of Colby that you have in your camera roll. I want his smiling face to be the last thing I see before I die. He's not going to be smiling when he finds out but this is how I want to remember him. As I scroll I see that Colby is calling me. Without thinking I answer the phone.
"Hello?" I say slowly.
"Hey babe, I'm walking up to your apartment right now. Are you home yet?" I can hear the happiness in Colby's voice as he speaks on the other end. Part of me starts to feel sad.
"Y-yeah." I choke out. I start crying more than I was before.
"How did it go with your mom?"
"Colby... I fucked up...I'm sorry... I made a mistake." I couldn't help but slur a bit. The tears are falling faster as I thinking about Colby finding me and my last memory of Colby won't be a happy one.
"What are you talking about? Are you drunk?"
Before I could say anything Colby suddenly appeared in front of me. I start crying harder, this wasn't supposed to happen. I didn't want him to see you like this. To make matters worse I feel myself slowly slipping. I'm going to die in Colby's arms and ruin his life.
"Hey, why are you crying? What happened?" Colby says as he takes the bottle out of my hand and tried to wipe my tears.
"Colby, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I cry out. My voice barely making it out of my throat.
"Speak up. I can't hear you and I want to help."
"Notebook..." Was all I could say while pointing behind him. I wanted him to get the notebook but I also wanted him to see the empty bottle next to it. I started slumping down on the couch. My eyelids were getting heavier with each passing second. This is not how this is supposed to go. I watch as Colby looks at me confused. He turns around and picks up the notebook. Before he turns back around he slowly picks up the pill bottle.
"Isabella... You didn't... Oh, fuck." I watch as Colby drops the notebook and pulls out his phone.
"I'm...s...sorry" I mumble out.
"Fuck! Izzy, don't close your eyes— Hello..." Everything drifts off into peaceful darkness.
**TRIGGER WARNING OVER**
****
I wake up to the sound of a constant beep. I open my eyes and quickly shut them due to the brightness of the room. I try to rub my eyes but both of my hands are tied to something. I open my eyes to see white, fluffy fabric around both of my wrist. For a second I'm confused but then everything comes back to me. The leak, my meeting with my mother, Colby coming to my apartment early— all of it came flooding back. I examine the room and see a familiar brown haired boy sitting this his head in his hands.
"Col...by..." I whisper out. My throat feels raw and I can barely talk. His head perks up and he stares at me for a second. I can see that his eyes are red and so are his cheeks. His face is still wet with tears. It breaks my heart that I did this to him.
"You scared the shit out of me." He says while walking over to me. He stares at me for a second before going in to hug me softly, not in the near body crushing like he always does. He hugs me as if he were to apply too much pressure I would break.
"I'm sorry."
"Stop worrying about me for a second. Listen, I don't have time before they realize that you're awake and they kick me out. I just don't want you to freak out but they might try to put you on a suicide watch and I wouldn't be able to see you for about 72 hours. I'm going to write my number on you because you are allowed to call me. You probably already know my number but just in case you get overwhelmed I'll write it for you. They're going to talk to you first to see if you need to stay." Even now when I've hurt him in probably the worst way possible, he's still taking care of me. I look at his face and see the stress from who knows how long he's been waiting for me written all over it.
"Colby—" I'm cut off by a nurse who walks in and tells Colby it's time to leave. I feel tears stream down my face. I can't cover my face or wipe my tears and now I have to let Colby see me like this again.
He said they wanted to talk. To evaluate me for now. I might be worse off if I had to stay here for 72 hours. When I saw Colby's face I instantly regretted what I did. The look on his face when he found me and the state that he was in, I instantly regretted my decision and I hated myself more for even doing it. I never wanted to hurt Colby. Somehow, at that moment, I thought that it would hurt Colby less if I left him a letter. As if a letter would make up for my lack of living. I would have given up on more than myself if I actually died. I would have given up on Colby, my friends, my education, everything I wanted for my life.

For @thebestpersonherelovesbucky and @nocturymiszczu and @esaael -
I’ve just realized that, if Colby’s almost 31 and Jason’s 38, then Colby was born in 1989 and Jason in 1981, and now I am one hundred percent picturing young!them in nineties and eighties fashions and I cannot even
young!Jason was a giant (literal and metaphorical) nerd, a D&D player, a fantasy reader, etc, but also a Cool Nerd because his family worked in Hollywood and he knew about cars and motorcycles and he learned about stunts and fighting and martial arts at a very young age. I imagine he was one of those kids who just kind of got along with everybody, the jocks and the cool kids and the geeks, in a laid-back go-with-the-flow way, though he also kind of secretly wished he could talk to more people about that really cool epic fantasy novel he just read, and he was kind of figuring out that he might be into boys too but he didn’t want to say anything and mess up bro-friendships...
young!Colby was also a giant nerd, but very lonely, very wealthy, generally the new kid in a few different foreign European countries (and with a very American politician father, which could make things complicated), and not exactly shy but very reserved: very aware that mostly he wasn’t especially wanted, not least by his parents, and very aware that interruptions or exuberance wouldn’t be welcomed. He totally would’ve had unicorn and rainbow stickers and glitter pens and the shiny Lisa Frank everything (his parents wouldn’t remember to buy him anything but he had a credit card from a very young age and would buy himself school supplies and also things that made him smile but only under a strict and self-imposed amount of money: Being Good) and he would do his homework the second he got home, very neatly, and then quietly sit up in his room and teach himself calligraphy or paper-marbling techniques or Morse code (he just thought it was neat), or read a fantasy or romance novel, something in which the main characters ended up loved.

an extra bit of advice:
-follow up a series of dark/sad themes with a few happier themes -try not to engage in the violent/depressing themes, but i know sometimes it’s just too hard to resist, so when you just *have* to daydream violence and the like, if it gets too intense for your health, cut off the music, take a little break, put on a happier song even if you don’t feel like listening to one yet -please turn the volume down, darling -drink water!! take breaks -if you cry, it’s okay
i hope this helps!! sorry to the boys, these are mostly directed @ girls cause i’m a girl and so is my parame :// if you’d like to request more themes, drop them in my inbox or leave a comment and i’ll see what i can do for you!!

Reacting to Friends from College
I Write and I’m Never Sad
Tumblr media
The Setup: It’s a dream comedy cast. Keegan-Michael Key and Cobie Smulders lead the ensemble, Fred Savage does cocaine, and guest appearances include Billy Eichner playing against type and Kate McKinnon playing very much to type. So there was a lot of excitement in our film school cohort about Netflix’s original series Friends from College.
Then it premiered, and, well, maybe you saw the critical response. Like 69 percent of critics, our friend Adam was extremely not impressed. But Marchae, whose default response to comedy is extreme side-eye, loved it. An argument ensued in the group video messaging app Marco Polo (which we heartily endorse), and Marchae threw down the Guest Reactor gauntlet, so here we are.
Post-chat notes from Kris (who was somewhere in between, but closer to Adam) are in italics.
SPOILERS for the entire first season of Friends from College after the jump.
MARCHAE: So I know you had strong opinions about Friends from College.
And I guess we can start there
ADAM: That would be a bit of an understatement. I would like to know your opinion first. I need to see if I’m missing something.
MARCHAE:  Well I really LOVED it. I thought it was smart
HILARIOUS
And I was delighted to see people kind of stuck in the throws of yesteryear while simultaneously trying to move forward and be productive
I also liked that it doesn't matter how adult you think you are you're always trapped somewhere between 13 and 23
ADAM: But here’s the thing
These are a bunch of affluent people that are afraid that they aren’t as cool as they think they are.
Just a bunch of
Can I swear on here?
MARCHAE: You may
That almost didn't bother me because they are so flawed
ADAM: But they aren’t flawed in an empathetic way
The audience does not have to sympathize with them, but they should at least have some sort of empathy for what is going on in their life.
Not to mention the complete tonal shifts that occur throughout the season
MARCHAE: Ok time out. I did feel bad for them sooo often
Infertility
A failing marriage
Failing career and sexual harassment at work
AWFUL
and it's a dramedy
I appreciated the antics
And I DO NOT generally appreciate comedies very much
So hats all the way off and in the air for Friends from College
KRIS: Marchae’s case here has been that because she doesn’t like comedies, anything that makes her laugh must be EXTRA funny. But I think this is faulty reasoning, and that if you are a fan of things Marchae does not find funny, you are likely not be a fan of the things she does.
The golden exception here, of course, is Sweet/Vicious, which she rightly adores.
ADAM: When whats her face [Sam] was at therapy talking about how she wants to blow her life, THEN turns around and says, “No don’t wreck my life.”
[SPOILERS coming for I guess the first like five minutes of the show]
To Keagan Michael Key [Ethan] when he wants to come clean about the affair makes me angry
MARCHAE: Sam and Ethan
But I think it's supposed to make you kind of angry
But you know they are miserable
It's kind of like the payment they get for having, excuse my language, dicked their partners around
ADAM: The creators watched shows like Casual, Difficult People, You’re the Worst, Girls and tried to replicate that form. They are doing it because they think people want unlikeable characters.
MARCHAE: Simultaneously it's kind of a tragic love story
I don't find them entirely unlikable though
ADAM: A show like You’re The Worst has terrible fucking people in it, but when everything boils down to the core there is some humanity in them.
With Friends From College these characters are just plain terrible trying to justify that they aren’t terrible.
K: Caroline Framke at Vox called it a bad show about worse people
Tumblr media
MARCHAE: I don't think they are terrible!!!!
Lisa isn't
Tell me how Lisa is terrible?!?!
K: I will agree I don’t actually think Lisa is terrible, or at least unlike the others she’s never actively insufferable
They are all kind of midlife crisis
ADAM: Which one is Lisa again?
MARCHAE: Married to Ethan (Keegan Key)
ADAM: She sleeps cheats on her husband
MARCHAE: *Sighs*
She explains why and of those cheating she actually has the "most justifiable" reason
K: She does immediately regret it and almost-immediately come clean, and Ethan takes the opportunity to be Generously Forgiving instead of coming clean like he’d planned, which makes him King Asshole
ADAM: She forces Ethan to break into a pharmacy
MARCHAE: Because SHE WANTS A BABY
K: This is one of the only storylines I like, because it lets Smulders do some actually great dramatic acting. But I wouldn’t even call it an arc, because it never feels resolved so much as dropped halfway through the season.
ADAM: And ruins Felix’s birthday surprise
MARCHAE: and it's funny
ADAM: So what
MARCHAE: I think it is a study in the absurdity of being privileged
They do whatever they want
And have minimal consequences until there are consequences
While the show comments to that it does so using HUMOR
So I personally feel like you should have laughed
Hard
And often
ADAM: It’s privileged assholes with a token black friend
K: Hey now, they also have an Asian friend. Who arguably feels more like a token than Ethan.
But I don’t know that I’d charge the show with tokenism; or at least, the cross-section feels pretty familiar to me, as Expensive New England Liberal Arts College demographics go.
MARCHAE: (Ok you have a point there)
Ethan also notes that in one episode by making a remark about what black men can't do
I really think it's a social commentary
ADAM: Social commentary on what
MARCHAE: The fact that privileged people can do whatever they want with few repercussions and that their problems are clearly as the kids say #firstworld
I mean come on
These people know all the right people they aren't terribly efficient or socially prepared to be in the world yet they all make it
And that's how the world works
And I think the show knows it
K: But how is it a commentary? It shows privilege, but that’s not the same thing.
Tumblr media
ADAM: I wouldn’t say they make it. When it’s handed to them
MARCHAE: No they are all surviving and thriving there
Sam has her fancy job
I still don't entirely know what she does (I have to rewatch)
K: I think she sells furniture?
Nick is a trust fund baby
AND THEY ALL WENT TO HARVARD
K: But the creators/showrunners also went to Harvard, and no one in the show is anything but affectionate about it, and I never get critique vibes at all as opposed to maybe some self-congratulatory vibes. Which would be totally fine! If the show was better.
ADAM: There is no true arc to these characters either
MARCHAE: it's great they're lives suck and they have it all
DONT EVEN
they dooooo
(Well some of them)
Explain though
ADAM: Sam wants to keep her perfect life does not feel guilty about cheating
Fred Savage just keeps doing what he is doing even after his partner (the only good thing about the show) leaves him
Nat Faxon floats in and out of episodes to be a comedic partner for Colby Smulders
K: And the main ostensible arc, of Ethan and Sam reckoning with their affair, is very deliberately not resolved, in a weirdly abrupt series ending
MARCHAE: I beg to differ we do see Sam finally realize she's wrong -and Max (Savage) does change a bit and we see the evolution of him kind of realizing: wait these folks might be ruining my life
Nat’s character I WILL give you
ADAM: He NEVER realizes that
MARCHAE: He doooeeeessssssss
He does we know he does he says it all when he's drunk
And also admits he might have a crush on Ethan
ADAM: He threw a temper tantrum at the end when they weren’t doing the bill Clinton musical
MARCHAE: He did and that musical was hilarious
Admit that much at least
ADAM: We never saw the musical
MARCHAE: We saw a number from it
Did we watch the same show?
K: Even the show thinks the musical is terrible
ADAM: Clearly not
Can we talk about how the tone always shifts?
MARCHAE: I didn't think so
But go maybe I'll change my mind I'm flexible
ADAM: The two big stand outs are the wine tasting tour
And the one where they go back to Harvard
The wine tasting tour especially
The let’s get them all drunk and see what happens
K: I agree about the tonal inconsistency, and also particularly hate this episode, except the very end when Felix tells Max the group’s whole deal is pathetic. I want to like this episode because it seems to know that it should be told from Felix’s point of view, but it mostly doesn’t come across that way. It’s just a lot of insufferable antics, with some Lisa angst interspersed.
I think it also with the uneven performance by Keegan Michael Key
The director/creator never really knew how to work with him
At moments he’s just doing impressions and voices that you would see on Key and Peele then he’s this starving unappreciated writer
MARCHAE: The impressions were a personality flaw that they explain in the first or second episode
K: Lampshading is not the same as justifying! Just because there are some lines about it doesn’t mean it works.
I loved the Harvard episode
K: I wanted to, for reasons that will be obvious to our former classmates, but I feel like they crammed two A-stories in under half an hour and neither Harvard nor the Caymans got enough real-estate
ADAM: They threw Kate McKinnon in there to be this weird YA author
I know that, but he is doing them at weird times
Tumblr media
MARCHAE: It's his tick. They call him on it too
I could have honestly done without Kate
It was weird. I'll give you that one
K: I didn’t hate it, but I also don't keep up with SNL so maybe my Kate McKinnon oversaturation point is just way different from everyone else’s
His voice impressions were supposed to be anytime he was angry or disagrees with something. I think it added levity to some of the more stressful moments
ADAM: I liked how they poked fun at YA and the twist with Wolf Trials
K: But our readers may appreciate this Mary Sue article defending YA
MARCHAE: HA!
MARCHAE: but i feel like there was so much to like there
ADAM: Here’s a question: In two parts. Sam and Ethan got together when they were Freshmen right?
MARCHAE: yup i think so ( I feel like now I have the PLEASURE of going back to rewatch)
ADAM: Ethan and Lisa got together when he was a Senior and she was Freshmen
MARCHAE: yeah
ADAM: Sam explains they kept having these flings why didn’t they just stay together?
MARCHAE: I honestly thought the same thing - however, I assumed it was because she said whenever they are together she makes poor choices
ADAM: I mean shit, he carved their initials into his dorm wall
MARCHAE: RIGHT!
I will say I questioned the same thing many many many many times and if it was anything that bugged me that was kind of it
ADAM: Smart thing to do is that they never got together in college and are now doing it
MARCHAE: AGREED on that front
ADAM: That speaks to the unevenness of the story
MARCHAE: I think I explained it kind of like they are magnetic for each other ( I don’t necessarily mean it romantically though)
K: Does the show ever really sell this? I don’t think it gives Annie Parisse enough to work with as Sam.
ADAM: They NEVER explain why they didn’t just stay together
MARCHAE: they can’t not be together. Although I probably assigned more of a narrative to the relationship than the show provided
ADAM: its possible because the creators did not. It seems like a pretty big plot device to really overlook
MARCHAE: I think we are supposed to assume that they were each others one who got away yet never got away because they are all still very much good friends?
K: We shouldn’t have to assume!
ADAM: Also, if he writes these critical acclaimed books why is he so sad?
MARCHAE: CAUSE WRITING IS SAD
You know this
I know this!
ADAM: i write and I’m never sad
K: Wait what
MARCHAE: LOL
I think it’s been awhile since his last well received publication. he’s in a bit of a dry spell is how I read it…
(I feel like you’re making me question what I liked about this show?!?!?!)
(Suddenly I’m like wait a minute?)
ADAM: isn’t that the point?
I took it that he is coming off of another critically acclaimed novel that no one is buying because print is dead, and he’s pissed because he wants Harry Potter money
MARCHAE: I totally didn’t get that at all! I thought he didn’t want to be like that at all... he’s into Literature and Max knows that that’s where the money is and Max’s reputation is on the line as well. I think that Ethan would be happy writing his broody novels featuring a teen
ADAM: Ok I would say that it is Max pulling the strings on that
If I had several books that many critics loved I would be happy because I know that it will live on through the ages and be taught in freshmen lit classes
K: I grant this given the additional condition that Ethan is obviously not hurting for money, whether it’s because of his own sales or because of Lisa’s career. But if I had only critical acclaim and had trouble supporting myself I would not be happy
It goes back to my argument of these are not interesting people
Just because they’re dicks does not make them interesting
K: EXACTLY. It’s not good enough in prestige drama, and it’s definitely not good enough in a comedy that wants to be feel-good at least some of the time.
MARCHAE: I think he had two... and when you have some fame you always want more
THEY ARE INTERESTING. don’t you want to know the answers to all of the questions you’ve posed? Why did Sam and Ethan just not stay together?
K: The show should have answered all these questions by the end of the season, because they’re mostly not plot mysteries, they’re essential to character motivation.
ADAM: I don’t think it will get a second season
MARCHAE: What happens with Felix and Max?
IT BETTER!!!! I legitimately thought it was hilarious
it reminded me of Melvin Goes to Dinner
ADAM: I haven’t seen Melvin Goes to Dinner so I cannot relate
MARCHAE: Watch it..it’s a great little indie flick
ADAM: I will
MARCHAE: So what did you like about it
ADAM: Can I say one more thing about the non interesting part then I will say what I liked about it.
MARCHAE: go for it
ADAM: These are white collar people, living in upper crust urban areas, with country houses worrying about how they can keep their upper crust life when they are the ones who put themselves in this situation
MARCHAE: and it’s all falling apart (also Ethan and Sam Lisa are living on Marianne’s couch)
ADAM: meh. I will say this:
MARCHAE: MEH! ADAM come on!!!
ADAM: Even though I had my thoughts on Lisa she is the most interesting person on that show
K: YES
MARCHAE: BOOM!!!
I like Sam too. I think she’s the most complicated character
ADAM: Well and Felix because Billy Eichner plays a great straight man
She’s the most real
Billy Eichner does a great straight man which is different from his normal routine.
Nat Faxon has the best one liners. But I think that is Nat Faxon and not the writers
K: Everyone should watch the short-lived Ben and Kate, also starring a pre-50 Shades Dakota Johnson. But I think Marianne had the best one-liners.
Because Nat Faxon is actually a talented writer
K: With director Alexander Payne and fellow comedy actor Jim Rash, Faxon won a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for The Descendants.
That’s all I somewhat enjoyed, but that’s not enough when the show clearly hinges on Ethan and Sam.
MARCHAE: WOW!
I thought that Sam was great. I liked not knowing what the heck had happened at some points... think about it
when we meet people we only know what we know about them from that moment forward - anything else is their retelling of it - so it was nice to not know and try to figure it out
ADAM: Not knowing what?
What are we not knowing?
MARCHAE: I think Sam’s psychology as well as the how and why she and Ethan stayed together
ADAM: She has no problem fucking around and screwing over Lisa when she knows Ethan and Lisa are trying to conceive
MARCHAE: No that doesn’t make her likable but it does make her complicated
ADAM: Plus she would rather cheat on her husband, who all accounts loves and adores her, he threw her that amazing birthday party, than have Ethan say something and ruin her life
MARCHAE: (btw I think what she did was WRONG on so many levels and I wanted to fight her...she was selfish and needed to be punched and I was sad Lisa never did it)
ADAM: She would just rather ruin everyone else’s life
Tumblr media
MARCHAE: I think her husband loves the idea of her and her family but she is selfish that makes her complicated
ADAM: She’s not complicated
She’s spoiled
MARCHAE: But I think she might be there has to be something going on that makes a person say hey I know I make bad choices when I am with person X
and engage in illicit behavior but I am going to keep doing it
I found myself the whole show trying to figure her out
K: I don’t think this is to the show’s credit, though, I think it’s evidence that the show fails to flesh her out or make her internally coherent.
ADAM: I just kept yelling at her
She deserves NOTHING!
MARCHAE: Oh my god! But that’s what I mean we don’t know how she got there
ADAM: Yes we do
She couldn’t/wouldn’t be with Ethan so she married a rich guy, but still realized that she wanted Ethan and would sleep with him every time she visited.
MARCHAE: LOLOL
ADAM: Then instead of breaking things off when Ethan moved to NY she kept at it
MARCHAE: But we don’t know WHY she couldn’t or wouldn’t, which is the FUN of the character but tried to get help
ADAM: But she does not want her privileged life to go away and still wants to fuck around
MARCHAE: but like I said they are magnetic for each other
she doesn’t want to lose her kids
K: But Sam just keeps saying this, and we don’t ever see her interact with her kids in a meaningful way -- even in the Harvard episode, which would’ve been great for that -- or see how incredible the life is that she would lose. It’s the opposite of Show Don’t Tell! But also, if they actually showed her incredible life, she’d be even harder to empathize with.
ADAM: I don’t care for the why on that deep of a level
MARCHAE: she’d still be very much privileged
and I think that’s kind of the cool thing,  cool being relative,  is that it is going to implode on them. And it’s going to be epic when it does. And we will watch and laugh
ADAM: Doubtful because I don’t think it will get renewed
MARCHAE: SMH
ADAM: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/friends_from_college/s01/
http://www.refinery29.com/2017/07/163100/friends-from-college-ethan-sam-cheating-infidelity-
MARCHAE: AUDIENCE SCORE 55%!!!
ADAM: That’s an F
Tumblr media
MARCHAE: see that’s the problem - don’t base your opinion on the critics
that’s over half and there are a lot of things that win with just over half
ADAM: I’m not
MARCHAE: LOTS
ADAM: I watched it
MARCHAE: *sighs*  look I am onboard to stick around next season and I feel like in that season they will explore some of the why’s that we need in order to feel more “complete” if you will
K: THEY SHOULD TELL A COMPLETE STORY IN ONE SEASON
ADAM: I’ll watch it see the train wreck that it will be. IF they bring it back
MARCHAE: They WILL bring it back and you and I will be right back here AGAIN.
Anything else you want to mention about how much you LOVED the show?
ADAM: If you want, I can include all the reviews that agree with me that hate it
Ok you asked what I liked. What didn’t you like?
MARCHAE: that would be hilarious. Do it
Well I thought it was hilarious for one thing. just the sheer level of immaturity
I also appreciated seeing folks questioning their lives at this age
ADAM: I think that’s a played out trope
MARCHAE: in theory they are “supposed to” have it all together and they don’t
I think we see it in movies like Sisters or what’s the one with the guys
the man gets a face tat
K: The Hangover? 2, maybe?
but I don’t think we see it with a group of people just trying to be somewhat functional and live their lives
Sam Lisa and Ethan are for all practical purposes homeless
we don’t know why they have enough money for IVF but can’t buy a house but who cares
K: ME
they are a hot mess
and i think that’s what I appreciated is that it was a hot mess
and your clothes can look nice
and your job be great and you are still at the end of the day unhappy and wanting more
and you are fumbling to figure out how to get to that point
and that you do it at 20, 30, 40 and they’ll still be at it at 50 or 60
that no one is actualized enough to be transparent enough to say: YOU MAKE ME UNHAPPY. but we fall into this routine of doing things because we are supposed to...they are supposed to be friends
supposed to marry the guy with all the money
supposed to have kids
and it’s all crumbling because they are ultimately toxic for one another
that’s fun to watch!
K: This is a very eloquent case for the show in theory, but I just don’t see it in practice. I think you’re doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the show. I’m glad it works for you, but I don’t think that’s how madcap ensemble comedies are supposed to function.
ADAM: This whole I’m turning 40 mid life crisis thing does not entertain me.
Especially when you have these well off people. It’s like the Breakfast Club. I hate that movie
A bunch of whiny teens with no real problems, other than Bender.
MARCHAE: but those are kids.  watching adults still fumble isn’t terrible to me especially those who are doing the most
(Also i thought it was HILARIOUS)
ADAM: Wait did you think it was hilarious?
MARCHAE: The whole thing!
I thought it was witty. There were literally points where I laughed out loud
The vineyard
The brainstorm at Max and Felix’s
The throwing of the chair though the pharmacy
ADAM: That is the directors asking Ethan to do Key and Peele shit
MARCHAE: it’s funny though
K: I hated all of these things because they’re just free-standing slapstick sequences, and didn’t feel motivated by the story.
now to speak to some of the things you didn’t like
I would have liked a bit more drama
(but I prefer drama to comedy 7 out of 7 days of the week...)
I also wanted more backstory somehow about WHY these people are still friends
so I don’t think it was perfect
but it was easily one of the better things I’ve watch for a comedy in a while
barring like Insecure
ADAM: That seems like a pretty big concern
MARCHAE: I can usually forgive it if the characters are interesting...WHICH THEY WERE
and I think we will be explained more of that in SEASON 2!
ADAM: I don’t have faith in that
MARCHAE: 😟
Do you have anything else you want to add about this show that you ...er... love so much 😊
(Also I swear if it gets a season 2 we. will. react.)
K: I actually will not be surprised if it gets a second season, assuming the cast is in. It doesn’t seem cheap to shoot but it’s also relatively limited in its locations.
ADAM: I swear to react IF it gets a second season
MARCHAE: YES!!!
ADAM: I don’t think I have really anything else to say about these boring people
K: And you guys never even touched on Marianne, Jae Suh Park’s character. Maybe because she’s barely a character. Park gave killer readings to her one-liners (“Has it ever worked?” “Not to my knowledge.”), and I personally would love to see her in more things. But every time it seemed like she might have an actual story, it fizzled out pretty much immediately. Plus a lot of her New Agey GOOP bullshit seems like it should’ve come from an insufferable white lady, not the show’s only Asian character.
MARCHAE: had to get one last dig in didn’t ya?
Well I say this has been a joy!!!
ADAM: It really has
Maybe next time we can react to something we agree on...
Like Die Hard
MARCHAE: YESSSSS!!!!!!
Let’s plan for this!
ADAM: Whenever wherever
Kris was agitating for a Marchae-Adam Die Hard reaction even before Friends from College came up, and would endorse an ongoing Marchae and Adam React to the 80s series. Expect to see more from Adam in the not-too-distant future! And we have yet another excellent Guest Reactor on deck, so you might want to brush up on your X-Men cartoons...
In the meantime, you can follow us on Twitter, where Kris retweets a lot of critics, screenwriters, and actors in between posting Reactions.

Anime Boston 2017 Opening Ceremonies Recap
Tumblr media
Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and Naruto: What do these anime have in common? They’re all 10 years old this year. As Anime Boston celebrates this year’s theme, “Retro,” it kicked off by making its attendees feel very, very old.
As a major snowfall began to blanket the Hynes convention center, Anime Boston 2017 started off with a bang. True to this year’s theme, attendees to the Opening Ceremonies were serenaded with the opening themes from Visions of Escaflowne, Trigun, and Ranma ½.
Due to Anime Boston mascots A-chan and B-kun’s time travel mix-up, attendees were treated to greetings from all the con chairs and vice chairs who have served throughout the years, ever since the first Anime Boston in 2003—all of whom remain on staff. Finally, our 2017 convention chairs, Victor Lee and Lauren Gallo, took the stage, wearing 15-year-service pins that indicate that they’ve been on staff at Anime Boston since its very first year.
“The seeds of Anime Boston were planted in 2001,” Lee explained. “That’s how old it is.”
Lee recounted the very first Anime Boston, held at the Park Plaza Hotel in 2003. Even in its first year, Anime Boston broke attendance records, and the fire marshal ended up having to cap attendence at 4,000—a completely unexpected turnout.
Next, we met each of Anime Boston’s special guests, who each brought their own personality and flair to the Opening Ceremonies. Check them out after the jump:
OKAMOTO’s, which has played anime openings for Gintama, Durarara, and Naruto. They’ll be performing at 4 PM on Saturday, April 1.
Puffy Amiyumi, which is performing tonight at 7 PM (seating begins at 6 PM) took the stage in sweatshirts, tulle, and cowboy boots.
Lisa Ortiz, who voiced Deedlit in Records of the Lodoss War and Lina Inverse in The Slayers in English. “I’m thankful for the snow, let’s try and keep each other warm inside today,” she said.
Tohru Furuya, who voiced Amuro Ray from Gundam and Tuxedo Mask. “Not even my father hit me!” he said, hamming it up with his famous line for the crowd. He invited everyone to his autograph session, saying, “Hugs and kisses are all OK.”
Brina Palencia, who voiced Ciel Phantomhive in Black Butler and Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece, among others. “Anime Boston was actually my very first convention ever so it holds a very special place in my heart,” she said. This is her third time attending.
Hirokatsu Kihara, who served on production desk at Studio Ghibli for Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, and others. “This year is the 30th anniversary of My Neighbor Totoro,” he reminded attendees. He noted that never-before-seen art from My Neighbor Totoro at his panel later today. “If you are a Totoro fan and you miss it, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
Johnny Yong Bosch, who played Jonathan Joestar in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Artemis in Sailor Moon, and Ichigo in Bleach, was carted out while surfing on a wheeled platform. “I’m totally down to earth you guys,” he assured the audience.
Masahiko Minami, the co-founder of Studio Bones, which is known for Ouran High School Host Club, Space Dandy, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Soul Eater, Mob Psycho 100, and My Hero Academia.
Sandy Fox, who voiced Sumomo from Chobits, and Chibiusa from Sailor Moon Crystal. This is her first time at Anime Boston, or in Boston at all!
Shingo Natsume, the animation director for Space Dandy, ACCA, and One Punch Man. “I’m really, really excited to be here, and looking forward to having a good time,” he said, with the help of a staff translator.
Greg Ayres, who voiced Kaoru in Ouran High School Host Club and Nagisa in Free! “So glad to be at Anime Boston, which is, not a secret, one of my favorite shows of the year and y’all keep getting bigger and wilder,” he said.
Naokatsu Tsuda, director of Inu x Boku, Planetarian, and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. “I woke up early this morning and took a walk around town,” he said. “I was really impressed because I got to see some of you walking around, too.”
Bryson Baugus who voiced Kou in Diabolik Lovers II: More, Blood and Bell in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? “This is my first convention appearance ever, so I’m super excited to be here!”
Wakana Okamura, the producer for Psycho-Pass, Haikyu!! and My Hero Academia.
Kyle Colby Jones, the ADR director on Akame Ga Kill, Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun, and Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Tonight at 5 PM, he’ll host a panel to answer the age-old question, “Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon?”
Robbie Daymond, who voiced Gaelio in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon Crystal, and Mumen Rider in One Punch Man, isn’t here yet but recorded a video filmed in a studio chock full of Funko Pops.
Cherami Leigh, who voiced Lucy in Fairy Tail, Asuna in Sword Art Online, and Sailor Venus in Sailor Moon. “Ten years ago, 2007, this was my very first convention ever, where we premiered my very first show, Peach Girl.”
Lex Lang, who voiced Kenshiro in First of the North Star and Goemon in Lupin the Third, left a video message while he is en route to Boston.
Chris Sabat, who voiced All Might in My Hero Academia and Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z. “This stage is so big I feel like I should be introducing a new Apple product… the new iAnime,” he joked.
Michelle Ruff, who portrayed Rukia in Bleach, Luna in Sailor Moon Crystal, and Sinon in Sword Art Online.
Roland Kelts, the author of Japanamerica. He will be giving panels about Osamu Tezuka and other early anime directors. Talk about retro!\
Patrick Seitz, who voiced Keith Shadis in Attack on Titan, Dio Brando in Jojo’s, and other notable anime tough guys.
LeSean Thomas, who did storyboarding for The Legend of Korra, was creative producer for Black Dynamite, and writer, director and producer of Cannon Busters. “This is my first time in Boston, at Anime Boston, and that’s dope,” he shared.
“We have so many guests and activities this year, and it’s all thanks to you showing up and supporting us for 15 years,” said Vice-Chair Lauren Gallo.
“Welcome home to Anime Boston,” said Con-Chair Victor. We can’t do this without you.”

Impeachment trial live updates: Senate rejects Democratic effort to subpoena White House for Ukraine documents
By John Wagner, Colby Itkowitz and Felicia SONMEZ | Published January 21 at 5:13 PM EST | Washington Post | Posted January 21, 2020 |
Senators began debate Tuesday afternoon over the rules that will guide the impeachment trial of President Trump — just the third in history of a U.S. president — focused on his conduct toward Ukraine.
The Senate rejected by a 53-47 party-line vote the Democrats’ first amendment to subpoena documents and other records from the White House related to the Ukraine probe. The White House stonewalled requests for those records by House investigators during their inquiry.
Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., presiding over the trial, gaveled in the proceedings at 1:18 p.m. Senators are hearing from House managers and Trump’s attorneys regarding a resolution proposed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that seeks a swift trial. Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (N.Y.), have panned the proposal, arguing that it is part of an effort to “cover up” Trump’s dealings. In public appearances Tuesday, the House impeachment managers urged the Senate to reject McConnell’s rules.
The impeachment charges center on the allegation that Trump withheld military aid and a White House meeting to pressure Ukraine to investigate former vice president Joe Biden, a political rival, as well as his son Hunter Biden.
●White House calls for Trump acquittal in ‘rigged’ impeachment as Senate prepares for quick trial.
●Trump’s lawyers, Senate GOP allies work privately to ensure former national security adviser John Bolton does not testify publicly.
●Republicans rally behind Trump as Senate impeachment trial begins.
______
5:00 PM: SENATORS AREN’T ALLOWED ANYTHING BUT WATER, MILK DURING FLOOR PROCEEDINGS
Not only are those taking part in Trump’s impeachment trial barred from speaking or having their phones during the hours and hours of debate, they also face strict rules on what beverages they’re allowed to drink in the chamber.
One could imagine, then, that on the short breaks they’re given, many run straight for the coffee machine.
According to Riddick’s Senate Procedure — a lengthy tome that one former senator described as “the nearest thing to the Bible that the Senate has” — those in the Senate chamber may drink only water or milk.
Water has long been allowed, but the milk precedent was set in 1966, the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call reported. No milk is allowed in the House, according to a Washingtonian report.
The rules on what lawmakers are allowed to drink are strictly enforced on both sides of the Capitol: In 2018, freshman Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.) was stopped by a guard when he tried to walk onto the House floor while holding a cup of coffee.

______
4:50 PM: AFTER HOURS OF LISTENING, SENATORS GET A SAY
Senators took the first votes of the Trump impeachment trial from their seats, rising at the clerk’s call of their name to vote “aye” or “nay.” The vote came shortly after 4:30 p.m., about three hours after debate began, and proceeded along strict party lines.
Those two words are likely to be the only words most senators are permitted to say on the record during the trial.
The vote, on a motion to table a Democratic subpoena request, came after arguments from Democratic managers Zoe Lofgren and Adam Schiff, rebutted by Deputy White House Counsel Patrick Philbin.
Watching from the wings of the House floor were three members of the Trump advocacy team, GOP Reps. Louie Gohmert (Tex.), Mark Meadows (N.C.) and Lee Zeldin (N.Y.).

______
4:40 PM: SENATE REJECTS DEMOCRATIC EFFORT TO SUBPOENA WHITE HOUSE FOR UKRAINE DOCUMENTS
On a 53 to 47 vote, the Senate on Tuesday rejected an amendment from Schumer focused on acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and any “documents, communications and other records” kept by the White House, including the National Security Council.
The White House had stonewalled the House impeachment probe, denying access to documents and witnesses.
After it was voted down, the Senate moved on to debate Schumer’s second amendment requesting relevant documents and records kept by the State Department.
By: FELICIA SONMEZ
______
4:30 PM: LOFGREN ARGUES FOR SUBPOENA ING DOCUMENTS NOW
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), the only one of the House managers to have also played a role in the impeachment proceedings against Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, was the first to take over the podium from lead manager Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), to make the case for why the Senate should issue subpoenas for additional documents from the White House.
Lofgren pleaded the bulk of her case to the Republican side of the room, turning her body in varying degrees to the right side where the GOP sits, as she argued — sometimes sternly, sometimes smiling — that it was vital that the Senate not only adopt a motion to subpoena White House documents, but that “it should be adopted now.”
Lofgren pointed out to senators that the White House was sitting on at least hundreds of pages of materials pertaining to communications with the Ukrainians, the decision to withhold military aid, and the concerns that several staffers at the National Security Council reported to lawyers there — all of which, she stressed, were relevant to the current case.
She played video from the testimony of various witnesses from the House’s impeachment inquiry, including that of NSC employee Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman and Vice President Pence staffer Jennifer Williams, who reported that they submitted notes about discrepancies in the transcript of Trump’s July 25 call, and former NSC senior Russia and Europe director Fiona Hill, who spoke with an NSC lawyer — pointing out those materials had not been shared with Congress.
“Attorney-client privilege cannot shield information about misconduct,” Lofgren argued, stressing that the “most important” information would be held at the White House — and that senators should see it, regardless of what it might say.
This isn’t Lofgren’s first turn on the floor managing an impeachment case: In 2010, she and Schiff were managers in the impeachment of ousted Judge Thomas Porteous.

______
4:20 PM: FORMER SENATOR JEFF FLAKE, ACTRESS ALYSSA MILANO WATCHING TRIAL
Former Arizona Republican senator Jeff Flake was in the VIP section of the public gallery, sitting in the front row for about 20 minutes, watching the proceedings.
Flake, who retired from the Senate as one of Trump’s fiercest critics, sat on the side of the gallery overlooking his former Republican friends.
In late December, Flake wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in which he called on his former GOP colleagues to ask themselves what they would have said if President Barack Obama engaged in the same behavior as Trump.
“I know the answer to that question with certainty, and so do you,” Flake wrote on Dec. 20. “You would have understood with striking clarity the threat it posed, and you would have known exactly what to do.”
Sitting about five seats away from Flake, also in the front row VIP section, was Alyssa Milano. Milano, an activist, also attended the confirmation hearings of Brett M. Kavanaugh.
Milano tweeted four hours ago a photo of her ticket to the gallery, writing, “I’m in the Senate Chamber for the removal trial. This is what democracy looks like. They’re taking my phone. I’ll update later.”

______
3:45 PM: WARM GREETINGS FROM REPUBLICANS FOR TRUMP’S LEGAL TEAM
Senate Republicans made special efforts to greet members of Trump’s legal team during a brief recess Tuesday afternoon, highlighting the close ties between the defense and members of the GOP conference.
As McConnell called the break, the House impeachment managers quickly left the floor. But Trump’s lawyers lingered as Republican senators approached them for handshakes and conversation.
Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) made an almost complete circuit around the table, greeting each member of the team, as McConnell spoke to Cipollone.
Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) smiled as he approached Bondi, the former attorney general of Florida.
Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) spoke to Sekulow.
Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Barasso (R-Wyo.) and Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) also spoke to members of Trump’s team.
As the lawyers left the floor, several groups of senators had gathered to debrief.
Near the center of the chamber, Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and an animated James E. Risch (R-Idaho) spoke for several minutes.
This group drew special attention from a handful of reporters still in the gallery, given the special role Collins, Murkowski and Alexander could play in the debate over witness testimony. But none of their conversation was audible to the press.

______
3:25 PM: TRUMP ALLY REP. LOUIE GOHMERT VISITS SENATE TRIAL
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) might not have been named to Trump’s anti-impeachment team — but he crossed the Capitol anyway to visit the trial.
As Cipollone delivered his remarks, Gohmert entered the back of the Senate chamber through the Republican cloakroom and was guided to a seat on the perimeter, where he watched the proceedings alone and in silence.
Gohmert was a vocal defender of the president during the impeachment process in the House, delivering some of the inquiry’s most provocative comments.
The White House announced Monday that eight of Gohmert’s colleagues would assist Trump’s legal team during the Senate trial — Reps. Douglas A. Collins (R-Ga.), Mike Johnson (R-La.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), John Ratcliffe (R-Tex.), Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.).

______
3:20 PM: SCHIFF SAYS TRUMP LAWYER ‘MISTAKEN’ ON THE FACTS
The trial moved to two hours of debate on Schumer’s amendment, which would have the Senate subpoena White House documents related to the charges against Trump.
Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), one of the House impeachment managers, took the floor first. He began by rebutting some of the claims made by the president’s lawyers, including White House counsel Pat Cipollone’s assertion that Republicans were not allowed in the closed-door impeachment depositions.
“Every Republican on the three investigative committees” was allowed to participate, Schiff said, calling Cippolone “mistaken” on the matter.
Schiff also said he expects Republicans to make more attacks on himself and other managers such as House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) in an effort to distract from the issues at hand.
“You’ll hear more of that,” Schiff said. “I’m not going to do them dignity of responding to them.”
He also used a vulgarity to describe the McConnell resolution.
“We don’t want to talk about how — pardon the expression — assbackwards it is to have a trial and then ask for witnesses, and so we’ll attack the House managers, because maybe we can distract you for a moment from what’s before you,” he said, delivering a paraphrase of his view of the GOP argument.

______
3:10 PM: CIPOLLONE TAKES A DIG AT SOME DEMOCRATIC SENATORS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT
White House counsel Pat Cipollone took a dig at the 2020 candidates forced to step off the campaign trail to act as jurors in the Senate trial.
“Some of you are upset because you should be in Iowa right now,” he said.
Several senators cast glances toward Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). He watched Cipollone’s remarks with his elbows on the arms of his chair, hands folded in front of his face, peering out from above what looked like fists. Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. (D-Pa.) threw a knowing look at Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), his neighbor. She looked back, then resumed taking notes.
On Twitter, Klobuchar shot back: “No. This is my constitutional duty. And I can do two things at once.”
Sanders (I-Vt.) told reporters before walking into the Senate chambers before the trial began that he is balancing campaigning and impeachment duties “with much difficulty.”
“We have a great group of volunteers in Iowa, New Hampshire knocking on doors in very, very cold weather and we’re going to be dependent on them,” Sanders said. “I have to do my constitutional responsibility and I’m here.”
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) had few words as she arrived on Capitol Hill for the first day of debate in the Senate trial.
“The people of America want us to get rid of this president, and Mitch McConnell is trying to rig the rules so that Donald Trump can stay in office — this is wrong,” Warren said, before walking briskly down a hallway.

______
3:00 PM: CIPOLLONE BLASTS SCHIFF FOR NOT LETTING COURTS WEIGH IN ON SUBPOENAS
White House counsel Pat A. Cipollone called out House Democrats, and Rep. Adam B. Schiff in particular, for avoiding a court decision on a key witness in the impeachment inquiry. Cipollone was referring to a closely watched case involving a House subpoena for Charles Kupperman, a former national security aide to President Trump and deputy to former national security adviser, John Bolton.
Kupperman filed a novel lawsuit asking a federal judge in D.C. to decide whether he should comply with the subpoena or follow White House orders to defy it. House lawyers then made a strategic decision in November to withdraw the subpoena and asked the judge to dismiss the case.
“They come here and ask you to do the work that they refused to do for themselves,” Cipollone said in response to Schiff’s call for the Senate to allow additional witness testimony. “They withdrew the subpoena. They evaded a decision.”
House Democrats, concerned about likely delay from a lengthy judicial process, decided instead to move forward with an impeachment vote, and to look to the outcome of a separate case involving former White House counsel Donald McGahn.
A federal appeals court in Washington could rule at any time on whether McGahn must comply with a Congressional subpoena.
In Kupperman’s case, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon dismissed the lawsuit after both the Justice Department and the House agreed that the legal dispute was no longer a live issue.

______
2:40 PM: REPUBLICANS TAKE AIM AT SCHIFF
The president’s lawyers and the top Republican in the House took aim at Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), the lead impeachment manager, early in Tuesday’s proceedings, previewing their party’s line of attack during the trial.
White House counsel Pat Cipollone incorrectly claimed that Schiff did not allow Republicans into the closed-door impeachment depositions that were held late last year, even though lawmakers of both parties attended the depositions.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also blasted Schiff, tweeting a video of himself describing the California Democrat as “a modern-day Joe McCarthy.”
Schiff has been a favorite target of Trump, who has sharply criticized the House Intelligence Committee chairman for delivering a parody of his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

______
2:30 PM: INSIDE THE CHAMBER, LOTS OF NOTE-TAKING
Most senators are taking notes, and each has their own favored way of doing it. Some senators have opted for yellow pads of paper to jot down their notes — this is the favored method of Sens. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)
Others, such as Sens. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) were taking notes in bound books instead.
Reporters can only observe about two-thirds of the senators from any part of the press gallery. Of those visible, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) chose the tiniest note-taking medium: a series of official-looking bookmark-style cards, each about three inches wide.
But notebooks aren’t the only things covering the senators’ desks: Several also appear to have brought reference materials with them, most in three-ring binders.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) had the fattest binder in view, while Senate leaders McConnell and Schumer had virtually nothing on their desks.

_______
2:25 PM: TRUMP ATTORNEY INCORRECTLY CLAIMS MUELLER REPORT FOUND ‘NO OBSTRUCTION’
Jay Sekulow, an outside attorney for Trump, began his floor remarks with several inaccurate statements.
Sekulow incorrectly claimed that the report issued last year by former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III found “no obstruction” — when in actuality, Mueller declined to weigh in on the question of whether Trump obstructed justice, citing long-standing Justice Department precedent.
Sekulow also claimed that the White House was not allowed to have a counsel present during the impeachment hearings spearheaded by the House Judiciary Committee. In fact, the White House was allowed to participate but declined to do so.

______
2:15 PM: Schiff attempts to use Trump’s own words against him
As he continued a lengthy argument against McConnell’s resolution, Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), the lead impeachment manager, showed video clips of Trump in an attempt to turn the president’s own words against him.
In one clip shown to senators, Trump said that he would “love” to have several top officials testify, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.
“The bluster of wanting these witnesses to testify is over,” Schiff said.
He also showed a clip of Trump saying that Article II of the Constitution gives him “the right to do whatever I want as president.”
That was evidence, Schiff suggested, of Trump’s mind-set when it comes to preventing lawmakers from seeing documents relevant to his conduct toward Ukraine.
“The trial should not reward the president’s obstruction,” Schiff said.
Amid his arguments against the resolution, Schiff also pressed the substance of the case against Trump, saying it was a grave abuse of power to have withheld congressionally approved military aid to Ukraine.

______
2:10 PM: TRUMP SENDS FIRST TWEET SINCE TRIAL GOT UNDERWAY
About 45 minutes after the Senate trial began, Trump sent out a simple tweet in all caps: “READ THE TRANSCRIPTS!”
Trump has argued since the early days of the impeachment probe that the transcript of his July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky absolves him of wrongdoing because he didn’t explicitly ask for a quid pro quo when he asked for an investigation into the Bidens.
Trump is at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where it is after 8 p.m.

______
1:45 PM: SCHIFF SAYS VOTE ON ORGANIZING RESOLUTION IS MOST IMPORTANT FACING SENATE
Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), the lead House impeachment manager, argued against McConnell’s organizing resolution, saying it needs to be changed to ensure that House managers can obtain documents relevant to Trump’s conduct toward Ukraine as well as relevant witnesses.
In his remarks, Schiff said the vote on the resolution would be even more important than the vote senators will take on Trump’s guilt.
“I believe the most important decision in this case is the one you’ll make today,” he said. “Will the president and the American people get a fair trial?”
Under McConnell’s resolution, decisions about documents and witnesses would be put off until after House managers and Trump’s lawyers make opening arguments and senators have an opportunity to ask questions of both sides.
Schiff said that order makes no sense.
Earlier in his remarks, Schiff said the impeachment charges against Trump are the most serious brought against any president.
If the House proves its case, he said, senators will have to answer this question: “Does the commission of these high crimes and misdemeanors require the conviction and removal of the president?”
“We believe it does,” he added.

______
1:40 PM: RESOLUTION CHANGED TO RELAX TIMETABLE, EASE ADMISSION OF EVIDENCE
McConnell’s resolution setting terms for the trial was changed to relax the timetable for arguments and ease the admission of evidence, according to two Republican aides.
The 24 hours of arguments from impeachment managers and the White House will now take place over three days instead of two, and evidence will be automatically admitted unless someone objects, the aides said.
Sen. Susan Collins (Maine), a pivotal swing Republican vote on procedural matters, had raised concerns privately about both the evidence provisions and the truncated number of days that both the House impeachment managers and the president’s lawyers would have to argue their cases.
Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) was also among the Republican senators who argued during a party lunch Tuesday that the opening arguments should be stretched out over three days if it were to mirror the Clinton trial rules.

______
1:30 PM: WHITE HOUSE COUNSEL ARGUES THAT TRUMP ‘HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG’
In a brief opening statement, White House counsel Pat Cipollone cast the impeachment trial as “a fair process” and urged senators to support McConnell’s resolution.
“We believe that once you hear those initial presentations, the only conclusion will be that the president has done absolutely nothing wrong and that these articles of impeachment do not begin to approach the standard required by the Constitution, and in fact they themselves will establish nothing beyond those articles,” Cipollone said.
“It is long past time to start this proceeding, and we are here today to do it,” he added, accusing Democrats of having delayed sending the articles to the Senate for 33 days.
Cipollone made no mention of the letter sent earlier Tuesday in which the House impeachment managers suggested that he might have a conflict that should keep him from representing Trump in the trial.

_______
1:25 PM: Inside the Senate chamber, a bitter trial begins with friendly greetings
The trial, preceded by moments of extreme partisan rancor, kicked off with some small gestures of comity.
Members of the House prosecution team, including lawyers Norm Eisen, Barry Berke and Daniel Goldman, as well as House general counsel Doug Letter, crossed the Senate well to greet their trial counterparts on the White House prosecution team, led by White House counsel Pat A. Cipollone and outside lawyer Jay Sekulow.
The pleasantries extended, to a point, to the elected officials in the room. Cipollone and Sekulow heartily greeted Republican members of the Senate, including McConnell and other members of the GOP leadership team. And Cipollone, at one point, met eyes with Schumer and offered a brief greeting.
However, the House managers — including lead prosecutor Adam Schiff — stayed largely on their side of the well, milling around the cramped arc-shaped table mirrored across the aisle for the White House team.
About 20 minutes after the proceedings were set to begin, ushers brought a half-full Senate gallery to its feet as Roberts entered to begin the proceedings.
“The Senate will convene as a court of impeachment,” he said, and the senators took their seats for a long afternoon, evening, and possibly late night of debate.
By: MIKE DEBONIS
______
1:20 PM: ROBERTS SWEARS IN SEN. INHOFE
Roberts, who is presiding over the Senate trial, began Tuesday’s proceedings by swearing in Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Okla.).
Inhofe missed last week’s swearing-in because he was in Oklahoma to be with a family member facing a medical issue.
“Do you solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the impeachment of Donald John Trump, president of the United States, now pending, you will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help you God?” Roberts asked.
“I do,” Inhofe replied.

______
1:15 PM: WHITE HOUSE DISMISSES CONCERNS ABOUT CIPOLLONE
The White House dismissed concerns raised Tuesday by House impeachment managers about White House counsel Pat Cipollone representing Trump in the Senate trial given that he witnessed some of the conduct at issue.
“The Democrats are an utter joke — they have no case, and this latest political stunt proves it,” said White House spokesman Hogan Gidley.
In a letter earlier Tuesday, the managers said that Cipollone should disclose “all facts and information as to which you have firsthand knowledge that will be at issue in connection with evidence you present or arguments you make in your role as the President’s legal advocate.”
“The idea that the counsel to the president has to turn over protected documents and confidential information is ludicrous, and to imply he can’t represent the president of the United States in an impeachment proceeding is completely absurd,” Gidley said.
By: JOHN WAGNER
______
12:55 PM: SCHUMER TAKES AIM AT MCCONNELL TIMELINE, MEDIA RESTRICTIONS
In floor remarks Tuesday afternoon, Schumer sharply criticized the restrictions on reporters covering the Senate proceedings, contending that while some may not want the events of the trial to become public, “we do.”
“The press is here to inform the American people about these pivotal events in American history,” Schumer said.
He reiterated that Democrats will put forward amendments and took aim at McConnell for pushing an expedited timeline for the trial that Schumer said “will result in a rushed trial with little evidence in the dark of night — literally in the dark of night.”
“We are staring down an erosion of the sacred democratic principles for which our founders fought a bloody war of independence. … The McConnell rules seem to be designed by President Trump for President Trump,” the Senate minority leader said. “It asks the Senate to rush through as fast as possible and makes getting evidence as hard as possible.”
By: FELICIA SONMEZ
______
12:45 PM: MCCONNELL DEFENDS ORGANIZING RESOLUTION AS ‘STRAIGHTFORWARD’
In remarks on the Senate floor before the trial resumed, McConnell defended his organizing resolution as “straightforward” and “imminently fair” and said he would resist any amendments.
He chided House Democrats for “agitating” to hear additional witnesses in the Senate trial, arguing that they could have sought through the courts to compel them to testify in the House impeachment proceedings.
“Nobody will dictate procedure to United States senators,” McConnell said.
McConnell reiterated his view that senators should not decide about hearing witnesses and admitting documents until after they have heard opening arguments from the House impeachment managers and Trump’s lawyers, and have had an opportunity to ask questions of both sides.
“The Senate will decide those questions later in the trial,” McConnell said.
By: JOHN WAGNER
______
12:40 PM: HOUSE DEMOCRATS RESPOND TO TRUMP’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL BRIEF
In a 32-page response, House Democrats dismissed Trump’s impeachment trial brief, arguing that the president’s filing is “heavy on rhetoric and procedural grievances, but entirely lacks a legitimate defense of his misconduct.”
“It is clear from his response that President Trump would rather discuss anything other than what he actually did,” the House impeachment managers wrote in their response.
Trump’s “view that he cannot be held accountable, except in an election he seeks to fix in his favor,” underscores the need for the Senate to remove him from office, the managers wrote.
They argued that a failure to convict the president would have dire consequences for democratic governance.
“If the Senate does not convict and remove President Trump, he will have succeeded in placing himself above the law,” they wrote. “Each Senator should set aside partisanship and politics and hold President Trump accountable to protect our national security and democracy.”
By: FELICIA SONMEZ
______
12:00 PM: Cruz says questions about Cipollone’s representation of Trump are ‘absurd’
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) pushed back Tuesday on concerns raised by House managers about White House counsel Pat Cipollone serving as a Trump attorney during the impeachment trial given that he had witnessed some of the conduct at issue.
The White House counsel works for the office of the president and is not one of Trump’s personal attorneys.
“Democrats’ opening salvo in impeachment: they demand Trump get rid of his lawyer, Pat Cipollone,” Cruz said in the first of several tweets. “Absurd request. Unlike the House, the Senate will have a FAIR trial. That means we won’t deny the President his lawyer ON THE DAY the trial starts. The Sixth Amendment provides the accused the right ‘to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.’”
By: JOHN WAGNER
______
11:30 AM: TOP SENATE REPUBLICAN OPPOSES PRIVATE DELIBERATIONS OVER SENATE RULES
Amid the partisan uproar over the trial rules proposed Monday by McConnell, senators might never actually debate them. That’s because they can’t, under Senate rules for impeachment trials, unless the Senate votes to deliberate in closed session.
A top Senate Republican, GOP Conference Chairman John Barrasso (Wyo.), said Tuesday that he would oppose any such move — signaling that Republicans are not willing to negotiate any changes to the McConnell rules.
“I have no interest at all in going into private session,” he said in a brief interview, adding that he thought Schumer would use any closed session to further the Democratic “coverup” narrative. “Senator Schumer had plenty of chances to negotiate in the last month and a half. … He had plenty of time, refused to do it, and it doesn’t sound like he is interested at all in coming to some fair and open process.”
Going into a closed session would mean the cameras would go off and the press would be barred. It could occur if a partisan fight over changing the resolution drafted by McConnell potentially drags on late into the night and senators need to discuss in private how to resolve the impasse, according to Democratic and Republican aides.
Schumer is planning on offering amendments to the resolution, but Democrats have not indicated exactly how many votes they would try to force.
When the Senate convenes Tuesday afternoon, the arguments over the rules will be presented by Trump’s lawyers and the House impeachment managers. Senators are required to remain silent.
By: MIKE DEBONIS, SEUNG MIN KIM
______
11:15 AM: SCHUMER SAYS HE WILL OFFER AMENDMENTS TO RULES RESOLUTION
Schumer said he will offer amendments to the resolution on trial rules proposed by McConnell “to fix its many flaws.”
Speaking at a news conference with fellow Democrats, the Senate minority leader said he will start with an amendment to subpoena documents regarding Trump’s conduct toward Ukraine and subsequent amendments on calling witnesses.
He said the documents are equally important as the witnesses and could shed light on the circumstances under which military aid to Ukraine was withheld.
“No one can argue that these documents are not directly related to the charges against President Trump,” Schumer said.
With his amendments, Republicans will face a choice “right off the bat,” he said.
“This is a historic moment,” he said. “The eyes of America are watching. Republican senators must rise to the occasion.”

______
11:00 AM: Most Americans want witnesses called, poll finds
Most Americans want the Senate to call witnesses, but they are split on whether White House officials should be compelled to testify.
More than 75 percent of those polled by Monmouth University support the calling of witnesses, but only 51 percent say administration officials who defied subpoenas to testify in the House hearings should be forced to testify in the Senate, and even fewer — 40 percent — say Trump should be compelled to appear.
Americans are also split over whether the House managers should be allowed to present new evidence during the trial, with a slight majority of 57 percent supporting doing so, and 34 percent saying their arguments should be limited to what was discovered in their initial probe.
Despite Trump’s impeachment, his approval ratings have remained stagnant, hovering at 40 to 44 percent in Monmouth’s polling over the past year. This most recent poll has him at 43 percent.

______
10:40 AM: MCCONNELL RULES MAKE FAIR TRIAL ‘IMPOSSIBLE,’ SCHIFF SAYS
Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), the House Intelligence Committee chairman and lead impeachment manager, continued the Democratic broadside against proposed Senate rules governing the impeachment trial in remarks to reporters Tuesday.
The rules McConnell released Monday evening and a lack of witnesses would make it “impossible to have a fair trial,” Schiff said. “Not just difficult, but impossible.”
Flanked by the six other impeachment managers, Schiff said the proposed rules do not live up to McConnell’s own standard of following the precedent established in the 1999 impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton.

Who do you think is the Phantom actor who played opposite more Christines?
I was thinking Scott Davies or Jeremy Stolle since they were sb and us for a lot of time
Possibly, but I think compared to some other names, they haven’t played opposite as many Christines. Here’s Stolle’s likely list:
Jennifer Hope Wills
Marni Raab
Susan Owen
Sara Jean Ford
Trista Moldovan
Samantha Hill
Sierra Boggess
Mary Michael Patterson
Sarah Bakker
Julia Udine
Rachel Zatcoff
Ali Ewoldt
Rachel Eskenazi-Gold
Kaley Ann Voorhees
Eryn LeCroy
Meghan Picerno
That gives him 16 Christines, which is a good number, but not as high as others, probably because many of the Christines he played with had long runs (Marni Raab) or kept returning (Sara Jean Ford, Kaley Ann Voorhees), plus the understudy Christine throughout his time has generally been the same person, Elizabeth Welch. Keep in mind too that it’s not guaranteed he’s played with all of these women either, most especially Sarah Bakker. And I also didn’t take into account that period of time when he left the Broadway production to be in something else.
And it pales in comparison to a likely list of Scott Davies’s Christines:
Zoe Curlett
Katrina Murphy
Joanne Pullen
Charlotte Page
Meredith Braun
Colleen Patrice Taylor
Claire Louise Hammacott
Deborah Dutcher
Gina Beck
Tabitha Webb
Sofia Escobar
Katie Hall
Claire Doyle
Katy Treharne
Anna O’Byrne
Ashleigh Fleming
Harriet Jones
Olivia Brereton
Emmi Christensson
Celinde Schoenmaker
Lisa-Anne Wood
Maria Coyne
Bridget Costello
Amy Manford
Kelly Mathieson
Corinne Cowling
That gives Davies a whopping 26 Christines, maybe with 1-2 more understudies that I couldn’t find. And keep in mind that I have audios of him with almost all these women, unlike with Stolle.
But I look at Stolle and Davies and raise you an Ian Jon Bourg:
Sandra Joseph
Susan Owen
Marie Danvers
Megan Starr-Levitt
Lori Zeglarski
Alison Kelly
Valentina Kozhanova
Olivia Safe
Colby Thomas
Janine Kitzen
Kristin Holck
Marion Wilmer
Maike Switzer
Sandra Danyella
Beatrix Reiterer
Martina Rumpf
Anne Gorner
Sarah Elizabeth Combs
Kristen Hertzenberg
Kristi Holden
Emilie Lynn
Claire Lyon
Sara Sarres
Clara Verdier
Megan Ort
Meghan Picerno
Caitlin Finnie
Kaley Ann Voorhees
That’s 28 Christines, not counting several understudies that he might also have performed with on the US tour, Vegas, and the World Tours.
Operafantomet also made this post where she suggested both Peter Karrie (anywhere from 16-19 Christines) and John Owen-Jones (19 Christines at the time, but that post was written 8 years ago and so did not include his 2015-2016 London run, which would add Celinde Schoenmaker, Emmi Christensson, Lisa-Anne Wood, and Harriet Jones as an emergency cover to the list - 23 Christines!).
So there you have it.

That leads to a strange idea: since the ones that Mugi and Hanabi are in love with aren’t available, the two unrequited thirds start to explore the idea of becoming each other’s substitute surrogate relationship. It’s not about romance, of course. Just sex and convenience. Or at least that’s what they keep telling themselves as love’s wires become hopelessly crossed and ensnarled in SCUM’S WISH.

Episode 3 - We’re Wrangling Cattle
Tumblr media
After returning from Tribal Council, Michaela instructs Colby to follow her to a more secluded area in the hills. “There were only seven votes for Ben.”
“Sure.”
“There shoulda been eight.”
Colby doesn’t respond.
“Did you vote with me, Colby,” she asks without blinking.
“I voted to make the tribe stronger.”
“So, what you said on day one, that was just bullshit?”
“Michaela, no.”
“You sure?”
“Michaela, I am with you. I’m sure. I’m sorry I didn’t vote with you this time.”
“Platitudes, man. If you’re with me, show me,” she tells him before walking back to camp.
After placing their torches against the wall, Ben finds his way indoors, following Brandon. Once out of sight of anyone else, Ben wraps his arms around Brandon, “Thank you so much! I owe you my life in this game!”
“Don’t mention it. Are you gonna go find another one?”
“Well, one of us has gotta. You and I are targets now, bud.”
“Don’t worry. I’m used to it.”
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a common chuckwalla lounges in the sun.
Tumblr media
The next morning, at the Suhtai camp, Elizabeth and Carl talk as they wander the desert.
“This is a bit different, huh,” Carl says.
“I’ll say.”
“But, hey, I want us to stay together moving forward. Let’s put all that bullshit from David versus Goliath behind us.”
“Absolutely. I was going to say the same thing.”
“Cool. Glad we’re on the same page.”
“Davids forever.”
“So, who do you like?”
“I like Wendy. I like Hannah. I’m put off by Wardog but I have nothing against him. Who do you like?”
“I get a good feeling from Todd.”
“Oh, I LOVE Todd.”
“What about Russell and Jerri?”
“I don’t trust them. They’re both very good and only more powerful together.”
“Hm.”
“Do you trust them?”
“Absolutely not.”
“So, what do you want to do?”
“It’s too early. I want to take Taylor out. I never know where he’s at. I think the sooner we eliminate that uncertainty, the better.”
“That makes sense. What do we tell him though?”
“We’ll just say Russell or Jerri. Whatever people are feelin.”
The tribes meet again in town square at High Noon for a rousing reward challenge. Jeff says, “Suhtai, getting your first look at the new Tsitsistas tribe. Lisa voted out at the last tribal council.”
The Suhtai tribe nods, unsurprised. Jeff explains they will be competing in a game of horseshoes. “Lemme ask, you’re all used to the rice and fish on Survivor. How has the eating in the wild west been?”
“Mostly beans, Jeff,” Colby says.
“We’ve been able to catch a few crickets,” Elizabeth says.
“Well, how does a few chickens and a rooster sound?”
“Yeeeeesss,” Todd exclaims.
“I’ll give you some time to strategize and we’ll get started.”
Tumblr media
The two tribes take their places and take their turns throwing. Everyone does about as well as an average person can until Bi, who gets significantly closer than anyone before her. Russell is next and lands quarter an inch closer to the post than Bi’s, putting Suhtai in first place. Ben takes his turn. His horseshoe lands with enough force and at such an angle upon Bi’s that it bounces forward and takes first place back. Jerri asked to go last, claiming she was “weirdly good at horseshoes. She takes her teal horseshoe from Jeff, lines her toes up with the post, squats and swings the horseshoe in her palm, so that her wrist goes through the gap every time, until she feels the weight perfectly aligned. Then, with a graceful toss, the horseshoe flips in the air over itself until it clangs with the post on its descent and spins around until falling in the sand.
“Suhtai wins reward,” Jeff calls.
“How did you get so good at horseshoes,” Colby asks, exasperated.
She gives him a wink and a grin before running back to her tribe as they celebrate with their chickens.
Tumblr media
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a desert black swallowtail flaps its wings as it floats through the dry air.
At the Tsitsistas camp, Bi tracks down Michaela. She’s sitting alone in the shade of one of the few, leafless trees. She looks up and smiles at Bi, “Sit, sista.”
“Is everyone saying that now?”
Michaela shrugs her shoulders like, “who knows, who cares?”
Bi aligns her back to the deceivingly strong tree and faces north. Michaela’s spine parallels Bi’s as she faces south.
“So,” Bi starts, “I know you and Colby are close, but hear me out.”
Tumblr media
“Okay.”
“Kimmi played with Colby in their original season, then again with Kass in Cambodia.”
Michaela listens intently.
“And on top of that, if she gets to the merge, she’s got Jerri. Then It’s Kimmi, Kass, Colby, Jerri and you know Jerri is working with Russell.”
“That’s five.”
“That’s a big number in the merge. They’d probably only need one more to gain control.”
“Colby'll be mad.”
“So, let him be mad.”
Meanwhile, Kass and Kimmi tend to the fire. “So, you played with Colby originally,” Kass asks.
Tumblr media
“That’s right,” she confirms.
“So, I have to imagine, with Jerri here as well, the three of you are planning on working together in the future?”
“He hasn’t said anything to me about it.”
“Hm. Are you open to it?”
“Oh, sure. I’m open to anything at this point!”
Colby approaches with tree mail as the rest of the tribe gathers round. He reads it aloud to Tsitsistas. Carl reads it to Suhtai.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Cow? We’re wrangling cattle,” asks Wardog.
“Yee-haw, cowboy,” Jerri says as she affixes her hat to her head. Her finger glides perfectly across the brim as she points a finger gun toward Wardog and fires.
At high noon, the eighteen castaways meet Jeff at a corral in town, filled with cattle. Jeff is beaming with excitement as each tribe takes their place.
“For today’s challenge, five people from each tribe will be tasked with finding puzzle pieces in this corral.”
Everyone looks confused.
“Each tribe has five cows. Suhtai’s cows have teal bags hanging over their backs. Tsitsistas’ bags are orange. Once you get one of your cows in your tribe’s area, you may remove the bag of puzzle pieces and hand them to your two runners who will then transport the pieces to the two puzzlers up that hill,” He points to a trail up a hill about 20 feet high behind the corral. “Winning tribe gets immunity.”
Tumblr media
The two tribes place everyone in their roles and wait for Jeff’s call. Hannah and Todd do the puzzle for Suhtai. Kass and Michaela are chosen for Tsitsistas. Jeff calls for the challenge to begin and all ten people in the corral race after cows while the four runners, Ken, Taylor, Brandon and Carl, wait at the fence for a bag of puzzle pieces. Lauren grabs a bag from a cow’s back and rushes over to hand it off to Ken. She struggles as she carries it, causing Jeff to shout, “These Bags Are Heavy!” As she gets closer to Ken, he reaches over and helps her with the weight.
“Thanks,” she says as they stare at each other.
“No problem.”
“Ken,” Brandon yells, “Run!”
“Oh, right,” he says before running up that hill.
Ben is quick behind with the second bag for Tsitsistas. He hands it off to Brandon, who immediately breaks off into a sprint.
Carl is handed the first bag for Suhtai. He throws it over his shoulder and begins his trek at a steady pace, hoping to not tire himself out. He passes Ken and Brandon on their way back. They nod to each other, but all three are already exhausted from the heat alone. Carl drops the bag with Hannah and Todd and immediately heads back to the corral, where he sees Taylor with a heel against the fence, a bag in one hand and his other hand extended for another.
“What are you doing,” he asks.
“Gonna take two at once.”
“That’s gonna waste time.”
“No, it’s gonna save time.”
“Everyone else has already gone and come back.”
“Trust me.”
Carl shakes his head, lines up next to his teammate and waits for the next bag. Next to them, Ken is handed a bag from Kimmi. Brandon is handed one from Bi. Both members of Tsitsistas begin their second leg of the challenge. Leaving at the same time, they have an unannounced but well-spirited race to Michaela and Kass. By the time they get to the peak of the hill, Michaela and Kass appear to have already finished the first two bags’ worth of pieces.
Elizabeth hands Carl another bag and he begins his jog again. Shortly thereafter, Wardog hands Taylor another bag. He begins his sprint, but loses all his speed after three steps. Carl makes his way back to Hannah and Todd, who look at him, confused.
“Taylor’s got a plan,” he assures them through heavy sighs.
“Whaaaat’s his plan,” Hannah asks.
Todd looks over at the other tribe’s puzzle. It’s nearly finished at this point. He tries to make out the puzzle’s pattern from their placements. He maneuvers a few pieces around, but he only has half the pieces they do. As Carl descends the hill once more, he sees Taylor lugging up the two bags. The bags are now in the sand behind him as he drags them.
“Tails!” Todd yells, “Hurry!”
Taylor puts a little more oomph in each step, but it doesn’t make much a difference in the sand. As he reaches the peak, but before he hands the bags off, Ken and Brandon carry their final bag together and pass him. They give their final bag to Michaela and Kass, who plug in the remaining pieces with no trouble. Jeff calls, “Tsitsistas win immunity.”
After the challenge, no one will give Hannah the time of day at the Suhtai camp. Everyone sees her as aligned with Taylor and she knows Taylor is the target. The two Millennials find some shade to talk.
“So, you know you’re the target,” she says.
“Yeah.”
“So, what do you want to do about that?”
Taylor looks back at camp, at the rest of their tribe, “What about… Todd?”
“No one’s going to vote for Todd.”
“Why not?”
“Everyone loves Todd.”
“Yeah, but he already won.”
“I know, Tails. I just don’t think now is the time.”
“Who do you think then?”
“Jerri scares me. She’s got a lot of connections.”
“You think people will go for that?”
Her eyes bug out as her cheeks fill with air. As she exhales, she tells Taylor, “You better hope they do. You might want to think about making a deal with God.”
Tumblr media
“What?”
“Just-- I’m gonna try, Taylor.”
“Okay.”
Back in camp, Elizabeth, Carl, Todd, Russell, Jerri, Wendy and Wardog all sit around the fire. Todd raises his hands a couple inches in front of him and stops them quickly to get everyone’s attention, “So, we’re all voting Tails tonight, right?”
Everyone kind of nods and shrugs in agreement.
“And then, Hannah can vote for whoever. Her vote doesn’t really matter.”
“What if they have an idol,” Russell asks without taking his eyes off the fire.
“I don’t think they do,” Wendy says.
“Can we find out for sure,” Russell asks, his eyes now moving slowly from the flames to Wendy’s pupils. She freezes. Jerri takes Wendy’s hand in her own and Wendy turns to her.
“Wendy, sweetheart,” Jerri says with a soothing tone, “will you find out if Hannah or Taylor has an idol?”
Wendy sees Hannah walking past the fire without Taylor.
She turns back to Jerri, “Yes, yes, I can- I will find out.”
“Thank you,” Jerri says as Wendy walks off into the dark of the desert night. She meets up with Hannah.
“Hannah!”
“What’s going on?”
She shuffles over to her, “They’re worried one of you has an idol.”
“We don’t! You do! You’re not going to play your idol for Taylor, are you?”
“No!”
“Wait, so are they splitting the votes?”
“I don’t think so. I think it’s Tails”
“Everyone?”
“Yeah.”
“Fuck.”
“What?”
“You want to work with me?”
“Yes!”
“I don’t know if I can save Taylor, but if I can, he’s ours for the rest of the game.”
“So, what do you want to do?”
Hannah rubs her temples, “Jerri, I guess?”
“Jerri?”
“Do you think Wardog would vote for Jerri?”
“I don’t know. He, like, idolizes Russell and his…” she makes gibberish with her hands, “gameplay.”
“Who do you suggest then?”
After some contemplation, Wendy says, “I’ll talk to Wardog.”
“Thank you.”
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a yellow primrose flutters in the heat.
Tumblr media
Wendy and Hannah return to camp with nothing more than exhausted faces.
“Hot out,” Wardog asks as he laughs, tossing a rock in his hand.
“I need to talk to you,” Wendy says.
“Okay, what’s up?”
“What do you think of voting for Jerri?”
Wardog’s rock drops in his palm with a heavy thud.
“I don’t know why you’re trying to piss people off already, Wendy.”
“She’s got too many connections.”
“That’s exactly why you can’t go after her yet,” he explains, tapping the back of his hand on her shoulder, “That’s Colby mad at you. That’s Russell mad at you and THAT’S Brandon mad at you. I wouldn’t risk it. Just take the easy vote.”
“Wendy,” Jerri calls from across camp, waving her over. Wendy leaves Wardog and heads toward Jerri.
“What’s up?”
“Did you talk to Hannah?”
“Yes! I did!”
“And what’s the report?”
“She does not have an idol!”
“You’re sure?”
“A hundred percent.”
“How are you so sure?”
Wendy takes a moment before she responds, fearing she’s been caught, but then says, “She told me.”
“And you trust her?”
“Yeah, absolutely.”
“Alright,” she says before adorning her hat once again for tribal council.
Somewhere in the Mojave Desert, a valley pocket gopher burrows into the sand.
Tumblr media
Jeff welcomes Suhtai back to the Tribal Council campfire and receives disgruntled chuckles. “So,” he starts as he slaps the top of his thighs and sits on his stump, “here we are again. Now that we’re a little more acclimated to the environment, are things getting easier?”
Tumblr media
“Sand’s different when there’s no water,” Elizabeth says.
“Hot?”
“I wake up sweating.”
Jeff laughs and moves onto his next question, “You’ve all played before, some of you have won,” he says, pointing toward Todd with an open palm, “Is the social aspect of the game significantly harder with more seasoned players?”
“You know, Jeff,” Todd says, “I think the fact these players have played before makes them realize what the priorities of the tribe as a whole should be.”
“Do you agree with that Taylor?”
“Haha, I mean, I know Todd wants me out. Everyone wanted me out after the Cao Boi vote. I’m just hoping the work done today can help my cause.”
“You put work in to get the target off you?”
“Yeah, so Hannah and I were talking and I came up with a plan and she went and talked to the right people, so fingers crossed, I’m here tomorrow.”
“So, the two of you had an idea and then Hannah put it into action?”
Tumblr media
The tribe laughs at Taylor as he says, “Yeah, well, I’m hoping she did.”
“Alright, well, with that, it is time to vote. Taylor, you’re up first.”
Taylor walks up to the voting booth, writes Jerri’s name, holds it to the camera with his fingers crossed and places it in the urn. Jerri votes for Taylor, as does Todd with a “duh,” face to the camera. Hannah takes a long time when she goes to vote.
Jeff tallies the votes, then says, “If anyone has the hidden immunity and you’d like to play it, now would be the time to do so.”
No one plays anything. Jeff reads the votes, “Taylor, Jerri,” Jerri rolls her eyes upon seeing Taylor has written, ‘Jerry.’
Jeff continues, “Taylor, Taylor, Taylor, third person voted off Survivor: Wild West” he holds up the parchment. It says “Tails” with a quick sketch of Sonic’s friend Tails in the corner.
Taylor laughs as Jeff reads the last vote. “Who’s that little guy?” he asks. He takes his torch to Jeff to be snuffed.
Tumblr media
Once Taylor leaves, Jeff turns back to the tribe, “While you may be having a hard time with the environment, after two unanimous votes, you seem to know how to solidify a tribe.”

"Hey guys, welcome back to my channel! Today I'm going to be pranking my boyfriend, Mr. Colby Brock. For those of you who are subscribed to him, which you really should be, you might have seen a video where he pranked me a few weeks ago. It was basically him annoying me all day, but I decided to get payback. I'm going to tell him that I want to be cute and paint a sunset on his back, but then I'm going to paint something else!" I turn off the camera and begin taking everything inside.
A few weeks ago Colby thought it would be hilarious to prank me over the span of a week. Just little pranks every day when I was least expecting it. On Monday, when I was getting ready for a meeting, Colby decided to fill my hair dryer with flour. I had just gotten out of the shower so I was a tad bit annoyed. On Tuesday I was taking a nap at the trap house and Colby decided to put hot sauce in my mouth. But he accidentally put too much. Wednesday was the worst. That day Colby was at my apartment to "grab something he forgot" while I was at a photo shoot. Little did I know that he was actually setting up clocks around my room that would wake me up every 30 minutes. He wasn't even there and I don't know how he set up a camera that didn't die or run out of memory. Needless to say that I was pissed and not in the mood for Thursday's prank where he hid the raw footage for the video I needed to edit for Friday.
That day I was so tired and stressed that I actually cried. Friday he turned off the brightness on my laptop so it looked like it was dead and pretended to break it. Needless to say that he had to make up for that one because I was even more stressed than the day before. Saturday, because I thought he was done and the pranks couldn't get worse, I let Colby spend the night at my apartment the night before. I woke up the next morning to a lot of my things in jello. My phone, cameras, glasses, keys, and even my toothbrush. Luckily, he had enough sense to cover my electronics in plastic or else we would have had a real problem. On Sunday he texted me my usual good morning text and then followed with a message saying that he had a secret to tell me later. We weren't planning on seeing each other that day and I sure as hell tasing going to drive all the way to his house o find out what it was. But it was annoying so I kept texting and calling him everyone once in a while to see if he would tell me. Right before bed, he texted me saying that the secret was that he was done pranking me for a while.
At least my prank is a lot nicer than some of the pranks he pulled on me. I honestly didn't know how I was going to get him back and if I didn't see the trend of people doing the same thing online I don't think I would have had the idea to do so. I still need to think of something better but for now, this will have to do. My mentions have been flooded by fans asking me to get revenge so I know I can't, not post something. I have to also please my fans.
****
I managed to make it upstairs into Colby's room carrying all of my supplies without dropping a single thing. I dump everything onto the couch and look at Colby who is just staring at me. I asked him about doing this earlier so he isn't surprised to see me with a lot of my art supplies.
"Why do you have so much paint with you? Are you painting the fucking Mona Lisa on my back?" He sits up and looks at my box of paints.
"I brought extra just in case anyone else wanted to get painted. Help me set up the cameras?" I take my backpack off my back and take out my camera equipment. Colby takes one of my cameras and sets it up on the floor facing the door. Where it can get a time-lapse overview. I set one up where Colby's head is going to go and make sure we will be in the frame. I borrow Colby's camera so we can vlog while getting ready. I set out the tarp on the floor and turn all three cameras one. I take the shirt I packed to paint in go into Colby's closet to change. When I step out, Colby has the camera pointed at me.
"Is that my shirt?" I look down to see that I'm wearing one of Colby's old shirts.
"...No?" I take the camera from him face it towards him.
"Pretty sure it is, but okay."
"Okay babe, take off your shirt and lay on your stomach."
"Oh, kinky." Colby jokes while taking his shirt off.
"Excuse me, sir, this is a family-friendly channel."
I turn off Colby's camera and sit on his back with my paint next to me. Colby has his laptop open on Netflix so we can have something on in the background. I would have music but I don't want to risk getting demonetized. To be extra safe we are both wearing one of my AirPods. I look up a picture of Pinhead Larry on my laptop and have it open out of view from Colby. I have another window opened with a picture of a sunset just in case he peeks over.
I'm about halfway done with the painting when I hear Colby's door creak open. I look over to see Corey opening the door. He has a confused look on his face for a second. He looks at me, then Colby's back, and then at my laptop before bursting out laughing.
"What are you laughing at, brother?" Colby asks after pausing the show we were watching.
"Yeah, what's so funny about me painting a sunset on Colby's back." I glare at Corey. If he ruins my prank I actually will cut off his man-bun.
"I just thought I walked in on you two doing some weird kinky shit. She's on your back while you're shirtless and there is paint. It looks a little sus, brother." I silently thank him for not ruining it.
"Corey, this is a family-friendly channel! Everyone here is trying to get me demonetized."
Corey stays in the room a little longer while I continue to paint. He leaves before I finish. I add the finishing details before leaving Colby to dry. I threaten him so he doesn't look at his back while I leave the room with his camera. I go into each other the guys' rooms and tell them to go wait for me in the backyard. I quickly go get Colby and tell him that I'm going to surprise everyone downstairs before I show him the final product. I lead him downstairs and make the big reveal to everyone. They all start laughing which confuses Colby.
"Isabella, what did you do?" He tries to see his own back like a dog chasing its tail. Eventually, he gives up and runs inside to the 24 pee-pee room. I follow him in to get his reaction.
"Honestly, I don't even know why you would trust me with paint on your back." I giggle so much at his face.
"You know what? I'm not even mad. This is if fucking hilarious. I should have known, this has been all over social media for the past few weeks." He kisses the top of my head and I quickly end the video.
****
After we hosed Colby down so the paint wouldn't mess up the pool or the shower, I head out to lunch with Kat and Devyn. We hang out at least once a week to get away from the boys and have a bit of girl time. We use this time to talk about our boyfriends and just catch up in general. The past few weeks have been centered around Gabby. After she went back to Kansas she kind of dropped off the face of the earth. She would barely talk in our group chat and completely ignore me. She ended up taking herself out of the group chat and barely talks to any of us. Jake told us they broke up so we just took it as a sign to leave her alone for now.
"You've been silent about you and Colby. How's that going?" Devyn asks as she sips her drink.
"Oh you know, it's going well." I don't make eye contact, which makes things look bad.
"Girl, if you don't spill after Devyn and I just spilled tea about our boyfriends I'll kick you."
"Okay, okay. No need to get aggressive. Last week when I was sleeping over with Colby. We were trying to fall asleep but not asleep yet. Colby said, 'I love you' and I panicked. I pretended to be asleep and he hasn't brought it up again since." Both of them stare at me for a second before freaking out.
"Why didn't you say anything back?"
"I— Look, it's going to sound bad but I don't even know if I love him. I've never been in love so I have no idea what that even means."
"You guys have been dating for half a year, what do you mean you don't know? Colby clearly knows." Kat looks like she's about to hit me. Maybe I need some sense slapped into me.
"I know what I like about him and being with him. I like the way he scrunches his eye when he laughs. I like how prominent his dimple gets when he smiles. I mean when he really smiles, not that fake smile he does for some photos. God, I would do anything just to see him laugh and smile all day. I like the idea of being around him. Even if we're not doing anything I'm happy just to be near him. We're together so often that I'm starting to have trouble sleeping by myself. I like that no matter how we fall asleep when we wake up I'm somehow protectively tangled in him. I still get butterflies in my stomach when we hold hands. When I hear his voice my day immediately gets ten times better. I like my name and every variation of it just because of how he says it, even though it's not any different from how everyone else says it. I like falling asleep to the sound of his heartbeat and breathing because he exists. I miss him on days we're not together. We could spend the whole day together but the second one of us has to leave I miss him— I just described being in love didn't I?"
"You, my friend, are so in love it's giving me a toothache."
"She's like a baby, so confused and pure. Kat, can we adopt her?" Both Kat and Devyn clutch their hearts like I'm the most adorable thing in the area. Their reaction, and my realization, only cause me to blush.
We keep talking while we eat our food. The more we talk the more I feel bad about not telling Colby that I love him back. Maybe he knows that I was awake the whole time and I discouraged him from saying it again. Nothing has changed between us. The only person who is acting weird is me. Every moment of silence since that night causes me to sit anxiously. I keep thinking that every moment that we are doing something is the moment when Colby is going to come out and say it.
We get back to the house about an hour later. I go straight into Colby's room and jump onto his bed. After a few minutes of laying down, I sit up, look at Colby, and repeatedly smack the empty space next to me until he sits next to me.
"I have to confess something." I take Colby's hand and play with his fingers.
"What did you do now?" I know he's joking but there is a hint of concern in his voice.
"Do you remember when I spent the night here a few weeks ago?" I look up and stare into his eyes.
"You sleep here once a week. You're going to have to be more specific, Iz."
"It was the day we went to the mall."
"Yeah, I remember that day."
"Well, when we were falling asleep that night I heard you say that you love me. I panicked and pretended that I was sleeping because I didn't know how to respond." I can't read Colby's face. He looks hurt and that breaks my heart.
"So what? Do you not love me or something?"
"Are you insane? This is going to should super cliche but I didn't know how to love until I met you. I didn't realize that until Kat and Devyn pointed it out to me because I'm just that emotionally dense. Cole Robert Brock, I love you so much that it scares me." It takes Colby a few seconds to process what I said.
He's quiet and then he whispers, "I love you with every fiber in my being."
My heart skips a beat just like it did the first time he said it. We both stare at each other smiling like two goofballs for a few minutes. We decide to celebrate to moment, our little milestone, with a date later tonight.
