Tbh when I first watched MHA and got to the preview for ep 3 and realized Izuku was going to be the world’s greatest hero because All Might was going to give him a quirk, and not because he was heroic enough without one, I was a little bit disappointed. The end of ep 2 leaves you feeling so high and that one spoiler brought down a notch for me

Now? Izuku deserves a quirk more than anyone, so sure, having him give everything, down to destroying parts of his body without repair, just to lose the quirk? Also feels a little bit disappointing, if that’s where we’re headed, just because he’s sacrificed so much

THAT BEING SAID. Izuku was a hero before OFA and he’s gonna be a hero after it. That’s an indisputable fact. And the last thing standing in his way is the barrier Kacchan and All Might put in front of him all the way at the front end of this story: that being a hero requires a quirk. Seeing Izuku overcome that would be so insane

I don't think people talk enough about how many head injuries Ballister experiences throughout the duration of that film (which without the timeskips takes place over like... A week???)

He gets railed in the face with debris so hard that it knocks him unconscious for several HOURS during which (per Nimona, who may have been joking tbf) he hits his head numerous times on curbs

He headbutts a knight who is wearing a HELMET hard enough to knock him unconscious or at least daze him, which couldn't have left Ballister completely unscathed

AND he presumably gets hit in the face/head a few times when being beat up by Todd because we can see bruises and marks around his face and he seems to be struggling to remain conscious

Any head trauma (especially one severe enough to knock a person out) can cause serious, long-lasting problems. Repeated head trauma in a short span of time is known to cause even more severe and enduring problems. Seizures, memory problems, balance issues, emotional dysregulation, vision problems, just to name a few (and depending on what part of the brain sustained the most damage)

Anyway what I'm saying is Ballister probably walked away with even more permanent damage than just the severed arm and the substantial psychological trauma.

And also Nimona probably felt extreme guilt because she just forgot how fragile humans were when she let him hit his head when she dragged him home even though that's probably not what caused most of the issues

What I'm also saying is I might be making an AO3 account (I'm late as hell to the party I know) to explore this and some of the other headcanons I've made (re: the Ambrosius beat up Todd post)

Edit: I'm just waiting on the Ao3 Invite (I was not aware of that rule and in classic Me Fashion decided I wasn't even going to attempt to make an account until my fic was already completely completed :,) so I am just sitting on the finished piece for the next 3 weeks

New Nine thought. You know how he has a track record for leaving the resistance behind in or even during fights, how he doesn't really care abt people he doesn't know personally and how he only thinks about himself first, how selfish that could be? But it makes sense and one can't really blame him because you gotta remember that he only had himself to rely on in an actively hostile environment his whole short life.

Fast forward once he takes in how Sonic's whole group operates and realizes each of them have basically zero self-preservation and throw themselves under a truck to save a butterfly, which just boggles him. He does his part yea, but no way he's risking his life for no good reason, it's pointless and reckless. Plus the amount of arguments and bewildered stares he gets over this confuses him even further.

Except he doesn't notice that their self-sacrificial attitude is slowly starting to rub off on him, if so he'd deny it, up until it hits him that he's halfway into rescuing a random guy endangered during one of Eggman's attacks.

He feels just a bit more secure about throwing himself in avoidable danger when he knows there's someone backing him up, y'know.

during her walks to visit crosshair, omega finds herself taking the same path past a certain cell that holds a clone. she can make out the "5" tattooed on his temple, and despite everything, he manages a small, kind smile towards her whenever he spots her walking by.

he hears omega and crosshair escaping, laughs to himself when he hears crosshair distracting the guards, and hopes with all his might that both of his siblings can escape safely. when he hears the whispers of the escaped clones, of their disappearance off the planet, and the smile doesn't leave his face for days.

but something happens, and omega's back on tantiss. crosshair's still gone, but omega's being shoved past his cell, and he can barely muster a smile for her, but he does, because he sees the way her eyes light up just slightly when they make eye contact.

and suddenly, one day, the lights of the base flicker, and the doors to the cells are opened. there's shouting, and troopers running past, and he can't help but join the fight, knocking out a guard and taking his blaster.

and echo and rex have joined the fight to finally, finally get omega back, and they're running with the batch, and come upon a swarm of storm troopers and guards. they're holding their own pretty well, until a few get a bit too close, and echo's standing side-by-side with rex, and suddenly there's a clone kneeling in front of him, firing off at the guards, and instincts take over, and it's easy for echo to stand with him, taking out the higher ground while he goes for the lower ones.

it's a position so achingly familiar that echo can't help but take his eyes away from the battle, and he spots the tattoo. he spots it, and everything sharpens around him. he feels more alive than he has in months, and there's a new fire in him as he starts shooting again, moving around him, and he moves around echo, with a familiarity that has rex's shots faltering as he also recognizes the clone.

and the trapped clones are escaping, shuttles taking off towards safety, loaded with brothers who are still in disbelief that they're safe, and it's not echo who grabs his arm, it's omega, who recognizes him from their brief conversation back on kamino, before everything went to shit, recognizes her brother from his smiles, and she grabs his arm and pulls him after her onto the marauder, and echo's waiting, he's got his helmet off, and a massive smile on his face, and he can't stop himself from smiling back as he jumps onto the ship and into his twin's arms, rex laughing as his boys are reunited, joining the hug and holding echo and fives close to his heart as they escape.
