I’m here today to talk about the
Transfer portal
In my opinion it’s so unfortunate
That thousands of good high school players
Will never get a chance to play college ball
At any level
When I was being recruited back in 2011-2013
It was fun going through that process
Speaking to different coaches
Getting those letters in the mail or at school
I speak to so many kids now and
When I ask them
How recruitment is going
they rarely have
A good response.
Why is that?
The transfer portal!
Now days these kids are handed everything
From middle school
when that first coach sees
A kid with some great potential
It always gets messy from there.
Now days a kid can feel like he deserves
More minutes
More shots
More control over the team
And if they don’t get that
They leave.
And the quote always is
“I just want to better my situation”
But are you really doing that ?
Or do you feel like you’re that good
Where you deserve the keys to the team?
When I was in high school I remember talking
Back to my coach in offseason workouts
And he kicked me out the gym
I was the best player on the team!
But you know what it showed
The whole team?
If he can throw him out the gym
Nobody is above this team
No matter how good you are
When I was getting recruited
I didn’t have the knowledge or info
These kids have today
Only real help I had was from
My high school coach Francis Bowe
Who is currently at Carroll (Radnor PA)
And 2 of my AAU coaches
Danny Mcfarlin and Kris Leviston
Who are owners of grassroots program
610 City. (PA)
I look at some of the kids in both programs
And I think to myself
“Damn he had a better season then I did career,
How isn’t he on any colleges radar?”
I really wanna understand how
college coaches aren’t
Kicking their door down to give them offers
But then I look back and understand why.
I’m a coach,
I’m on the staff at Pottstown high school
I coach 17u aau ball for 610 city
And I pride myself on knowing
As much about the game as possible
To help kids reach their goals
But as I thought about it
I get it!
“Why would I take a high school kid,
When I can get this D1 transfer who
Just wants to play his senior year?”
It keeps the good teams good forever
And the high school kids
who are left get the
Leftovers
Either an offer from a school
Who hasn’t been good in basketball
In years.
Or a school nobody has ever heard of.
I write all this to say that I see both sides
Of the transfer portal
I wanna know from you
are you with it ?
Or against it ? 🏀💚

High school, college and even pros don’t ever stop working on your game. There’s a coach out there who would love to have you on their roster, they just haven’t seen you play yet. Market yourself and keep pushing don’t expect any handouts!

When she’s not suiting up, you can still expect to see Jones talking all things basketball on her podcast Sometimes I Hoop. One of the only female-first athlete-to-athlete programs, Jones has welcomed the likes of Clark, Flau’jae Johnson, Aliyah Boston, Hailey Van Lith, Aaliyah Edwards, Natasha Cloud, and more to the show. A project of hers since college, Jones opened up about how she worked alongside The Players’ Tribune to develop the podcast. “I feel like I can relate to them differently than reporters. I either have a personal connection with these people or have played against them, so there are plenty of things for us to discuss. I think the most important thing to me is just being able to grow women’s basketball,” said the California native. “I feel so many men’s basketball players have podcasts where they can freely talk. but there aren’t that many player-driven women’s basketball ones. I know these players’ stories and relate to some of them. Having a show centered on women’s basketball just gives fans more reason to want to watch our games and follow these athletes.” Jones has a point. Lately, we’ve seen a rapid rise and consequential success of current or retired women athletes in media. For those still playing, the option to hoop overseas is no longer the sole decision to earn offseason income. Through analyst roles, a podcast, or other broadcast mediums, athletes we’ve grown to appreciate on the hardwood are dropping gems on what it’s really like to play to a dedicated audience hanging onto every word.

Sitting down to floss and brush my teeth has been lifechanging. On a completely unrelated note how the fuck am I supposed to have this skeleton for several more decades. It’s all over for me lads 😔
#knees hurt. hips hurt. back hurts. wrists hurt. swag#it’s not this bad most of the time but by the end of the day it’s like auuuugh#it really is too bad that I’ve got extreme doctor fears because of the IssuesTM!#and oh yeah I don’t have health insurance LOL…#which I am using as a convenient excuse to avoid going to the doctors LOL#i have some doctor ~traumas~ I think LOL!#im working up to it. it’s glacial. sometime this year maybe?#I went twice as an adult and both times were for health forms for college enrollment#I’ve been to the ER and an urgent care once or twice though so clearly I’m FINE…#this is BAD do not be like me#but it’s only become clear to me in the past year or two that the incidents in my childhood reeeeally affected me#and to have US healthcare be such a profoundly difficult and punitive process basically means I am just never going to like jump through#those hoops only to be confronted with a severe phobia lol#im not saying that’s a reasonable train of thought but it’s more that that’s my subconscious reasoning#but it is a 2024 goal to get seen by a doctor#but the other thing is that it’s so fucking clear to me that they will do NOTHING for either PMDD or my joint pain which are my chief#complaints at the moment#but like i should probably be like getting routine panels and Pap smears :-(#everything’s SO EXPENSIVE…#They’ll be like give me your blood. ok all normal everything is healthy. ok that’ll be literally $200#:-(#ugh I’m upsetting myself just thinking about doctors. ok Goodnight#(with full intention to keep scrolling)

Here today to bring you
Another take on a player I’ve known
For years and seen grow as a player
Even though he’s only been playing ball
A handful of years.
When I tell you this kid can Go
he can go
He can rebound
Score at all 3 levels
And now that he’s almost grown
Into his full body frame
Standing at 6’5
He will go dunk one on your head
Duce Jackson can do it all out there
This is a kid who you want
In your
Program
He will go do your dirty work
Anything he shoots in the midrange area
Is automatic
He his literally a match up nightmare
Every possession
Duce was able to have 2 big summers
And
A good great junior year
And it’s really starting to pay off.
Last summer he started gaining traction
On different school recruiting him
Playing with 610 city aau program
He took that into his high school season
Where he plays at collegium charter school
And
Was a key part of their district title
Championship
Then
He turned around and had another
Great aau season with 610 city
Duce was able to pick up interest from schools
Such as
Texas A&M commerce
Chestnut hill
Wilmington
East Strousburg
Alvernia
Arcadia
And a few more
This kid keeps elevating his game
Like I said he’s a kid you wanna have
In your program.
He went absolutely crazy in the live period
Posting up a 30 and 12 game
Against a good Newark Nj team.
Duce Jackson loves the game
Like I said I known him forever and
Coaches I can honestly say
He is a
Great kid
great player
And he is
Mr.Duceeverything 🏀💚
