mischief cast in the hatchetfield series (version 2)
hello. in january, i did a series of "mischief members cast in starkid shows" posts, which i did for most of their shows. i did a casting of hatchetfield during this series, but i only based the castings on the guy who didn't like musicals and black friday, as at this point in time, it had been a while since i had watched nightmare time season 1, i hadn't yet watched nightmare time season 2, and nerdy prudes must die hadn't come out yet. but now that i've watched everything, i figured i should update my casting. quite a few of these roles have been switched around from how i originally had them, because of how additional roles changed my perspective.
some notes that i made in the original series but will reiterate now, plus an extra one:
vocals did not play a part in the castings because i didn't want to limit myself and also because i can't tell what vocal types people are. so this is purely based on acting abilities.
i only used cast members from filmed shows because they're who i'm familiar with. so basically tgws and mmni cast members only. (there is a single exception to this).
now the extra note. i have cast all of them as if they're taking over a starkid members parts (aka someone will be playing all of jon matteson's parts, etc). however, if two different starkid people play a character during different shows (most notably the recasting of r*bert m*nion's roles in nmt2) i have changed it so that only one mischief actor plays that part. for which actor i gave these doubled up roles to, i gave priority to the stage shows over nightmare time. a good example of this is the lords in black - i have counted their actors as the person who played them in npmd, no matter who played them in nmt. the only character that this is a little complicated for is peter spankoffski, as he's been played by three different people, but i've put him as joey's character over r*bert's, as he has a more prominent role in npmd than in tgwdlm. hopefully that makes sense!
also you can see my original casting here. just so you can see what's changed. i would recommend reading this one first because the ones i kept the same are mostly just "see previous explanation".
casting under the readmore!
paul matthews / wiggly / gary goldstein / paul 23 / roman murray / boy jerry / daniel / richie lipshitz: jonathan sayer
this was hard because i moved my first choice for this role to a different character, but i think jono could do it! dennis has the awkward vibes paul does, and i feel like from what we see of him in mmni, jono is unhinged enough to play every other character /lh. my personal favourite character for jono to play is richie though.
emma perkins / donna daggit / linda monroe / madame iris / emdroid / mary / courtney / ruth fleming / blinky: nancy zamit
listen. nancy as linda monroe could fix me. okay. i just think she'd smash any and all of these characters.
bill woodward / frank pricely / solomon lauter / jason jepson / pokey: harry kershaw
this one is the same as my old casting, so i won't spend much explanation on it, but it's perfect, okay?
charlotte sweetly / nora / deb / colonel schaffer / sherman young / jane perkins / pamela foster / sheila young / marco: charlie russell
this is also the same as before, but the addition of sheila is the one that solidified this for me. we know she can play sexy villains. we've seen it in mmni. the prime minister in star paws, madame castaway in a dice with death (i know she isn't the villain in that one but she's got the same vibe). this also goes for jane. charlie russell playing villains for the win.
ted spankoffski / dan reynolds / wilbur cross / cineplex teen / malone / ezekiel / thrash / peter spankoffski: dave hearn
although he wasn't who i landed on previously, i had already strongly considered him for this role, and i eventually decided that he did fit this role better after all. i mean, we love villain dave in this house, so wilbur and ezekiel are covered. i also think he has the range to play pete as well, as we've seen him play those awkward kind of characters in mmni. i think he's definitely right for the part.
professor hidgens / ethan green / tony green: joshua elliott
same as previous casting and not much to add.
mr davidson / sam sweetly / general macnamara / barry swift / chumby the ape-man / papa sniggle / andy kilgore / gabe / skud: henry lewis
okay hear me out on this one. the initial reason i considered him for this role is because mcnamara's voice in tgwdlm reminded me of his chesney hawkes voice in light over the rocks. then i thought about it some more and i feel like he could really rock all of these roles? idk i just think he could do it.
alice woodward / greenpeace girl / melissa / zoey chambers / stephanie lauter / webby: rhyanna alexander-davis
same as previous. i think the added characters are really great for her as well. like rhyanna as steph??? come onnnn.
tom houston / gerald monroe / bob metzger: chris leask
okay listen. chris leask has that rugged dad kind of vibe that tom has. i said what i said. it works sooo well. you cannot tell me you don't see where i'm coming from on this one.
becky barnes / sylvia / jenny / miss holloway / girl jeri / karen chasity / miss mullberry / stacy / nibbly: lauren shearing
this was perfect casting the first time and i stand by that!!!
lex foster / lucy stockworth / snigglette / willabella muckwab / hailey / grace chasity: ellie morris
i also stand by this one! i feel like once again, she isn't the obvious choice for any of these, but i think she has a range that i want to see explored.
hannah foster / tim houston: susan harrison
idk how to explain it i just think it's a role i'd love to see her in.
howard goodman / jonathan brisby / duke keane / zach chambers / lumber-axe / eddie chiplucky / mark chasity / officer bailey / kyle clauger / tinky: greg tannahill
once again another example of perfect casting the first time. i am a genius /j. the most notable addition to me is duke, and i think he absolutely has the heart to play him.
xander lee / bob morris / watcher world barker / river monroe / noah / charles: niall ransome
it still fits. not much to add tbh.
rose / sophia / detective shapiro / brenda: bryony corrigan
okay, of all of these the only one i struggle to imagine her as is rose, but even then i don't think that's beyond her capabilities? like idk i just could really see her as shapiro tbh.
ziggs / kale: scott hunter
i did say there was a single exception to the "only tgws or mmni rule"! because ofc i have to cast non-binary icon scott hunter as non-binary icon jae hughes.
max jägerman: henry shields
this role was super hard to cast. partially because will branner hasn't played any other characters yet so i haven't seen his range, and also because will brings such a specific energy to this character that i think is hard to replicate? he's an excellent addition to starkid. anyway i thought shields was probably the best bet for casting this role, purely because max reminds me very slightly of kyle from primary cape crusader. there's just a specific vibe and shields was the only one i felt could fit that.

Okay I might as well post this bc I know I ain't gonna write this as a fic anytime soon cause I'm lazy but anyway I've been thinking about a Hatchetfield swap au. More below cut
Here's whose swapped with who, if there's an arrow in between them (ex: A - B) then those characters both swapped with each other. If there's an equal sign between them (ex: A = B) then the person on the left is becoming/taking the role of the person on the right (ie A = B means A takes the role of B, but B does not also take the role of A) hopefully that makes sense.
*note. I'll mention on several of them that they're aged up or down, but that doesn't necessarily mean that characters that I didn't mention an age change on don't change ages, it's just I forgot to mention it on them or it isn't a huge difference/doesn't really change anything, just assume age changed if it makes more sense
Paul - Emma
Bill - Tom

PJ = Richie
Reese = Ruth
Bob Metzger = Charlotte

Roman = Hidgens
Trevor (Jon's theatre kid in the bbq monologues bit) = Deb (but also is still there and is himself in NPMD also Tim & him aren't dating, just best friends)

IRRESISTIBLE (2020)
Starring Steve Carell, Rose Byrne, Chris Cooper, Mackenzie Davis, Topher Grace, Natasha Lyonne, Will Sasso, CJ Wilson, Brent Sexton, Alan Aisenberg, Debra Messing, Christian Adam, Will McLaughlin, Eve Gordon, Andrea Frankle, Jason Davis, Jason Kirkpatrick, Charles Green, Kevin Maier and Tom Key.
Screenplay by Jon Stewart.
Directed by Jon Stewart.
Distributed by Focus Features. 102 minutes. Rated.
In 2013, Jon Stewart, then host and head writer on Comedy Central’s popular political comic series The Daily Show, announced he was going to take a 12-week hiatus from the show. The reason for the break was that Stewart wanted to write and direct a movie called Rosewater.
The film itself was a bit of a surprise for this New Jersey-born former stand-up comedian and political pundit. It told the harrowing true story of an Iranian-born journalist who was back in his native country covering political unrest and potential revolution, only to be arrested as a spy, held, and tortured for months.
Certainly, it was not a funny story, but it was one Stewart had a major connection to. He knew the journalist -- Maziar Bahari – in fact, the arrest was connected to a skit that Bahari did for The Daily Show. It was a labor of love for Stewart.
The next year the movie came out – and while it was not a huge hit, Stewart started talking about how much he enjoyed filmmaking. Not even a year later, Stewart announced that he was leaving The Daily Show because he was tired of the grind of a TV series and he wanted to focus on his film work.
That was 2015. In the years since then, Stewart has been around, sort of; appearing on other people’s shows as comic relief or a talking head, working on philanthropic concerns like being a tireless advocate for 9/11 first responders. However, that follow-up movie still hadn’t come.
Until now. Irresistible is much more like what we would have expected from Stewart than Rosewater. It is a cutting dark comedy about politics and campaigning, red America vs. blue America, and the corruption, out-of-touch values, and insane spending of political campaigning.
Irresistible is timed perfectly for the lead in to 2020 election season – in fact, that may have been Stewart’s plan, to hold it for when voting was on people’s minds. At least it would have been well-timed if not for the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has closed most of the theaters and Irresistible must debut On Demand and streaming release.
Irresistible is a mostly enjoyable farce – not as surprising a film choice as Rosewater was, but a smart and funny look at politics. At least until the last ten minutes, when it becomes overly preachy and kind of annoying. And this is coming from someone who for the most part agrees with Stewart’s point of view.
However, the first hour and a half of the film mostly makes up for the disappointing ending.
Basically, it is the story of big-time politics coming descending on a small-time mayor’s race in the middle of the heartland.
Stewart reunites with his former Daily Show co-star Steve Carell in this film. Carell plays top Democrat consultant Gary Zimmer, who is completely burnt out on the political game – he was one of the top people in the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign.
He regains his political fire when he is shown a viral video of a small-town Wisconsin council meeting in which a retired Colonel, Jack Hastings (Chris Cooper), passionately speaks about the importance of community and cooperation. It turns out that the town the Colonel lives in is about to have a mayoral race – one that the Democrats haven’t won in decades.
Zimmer feels that Col. Hastings can be the ideal candidate. He’s a Marine, smart, tough, pragmatic, home-spun, empathetic, gruff and hard working. Even though the former Colonel had never considered running for office, Zimmer thinks he may be a new kind of Democrat that will win in the fly-over states.
Zimmer touches down in the Wisconsin town, trying not to stand out and being even more conspicuous for his awkward attempts to fit in. His K Street mindset is at odds with the State Route world of the town, but still he tries to turn this little local election into a major national event.
His nemesis is Faith Brewster (Rose Byrne), a shamelessly partisan Republican campaign manager – picture Kellyanne Conway if she was a bit younger, single, and attractive. She is an enthusiastic proponent of “alternative reality.” She even brazenly claims in a TV interview that she was born in the town, even though every voter in the election knows that it was a blatant untruth. But she doesn’t care, she lies as naturally as she breathes.
The Republicans have sent Faith to take over the campaign for the current mayor, who was a lock to win until Gary and the Colonel started gaining attention. What follows is a love/hate (more like hate/hate) battle over the lives and minds of the people of this town by Washington insiders who really don’t get the place.
Like I said earlier, it’s funny stuff, until it’s not. However, if Stewart uses his film to get on a soap box in the last 10 minutes, the rest of it is good stuff. So, watch it, enjoy, just be ready to wade through a little heavy-handed commentary in the end.

Louis Gossett Jr.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Louis Cameron Gossett Jr. (born May 27, 1936) is an American actor. He is perhaps best known for his Academy Award-winning role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the 1982 film An Officer and a Gentleman, and his Emmy Award-winning role as Fiddler in the 1977 ABC television miniseries Roots. Gossett has also starred in numerous film productions including A Raisin In The Sun,The Landlord. Skin Game, Travels with My Aunt, The Laughing Policeman, The Deep, Jaws 3-D (1983), Wolfgang Petersen's Enemy Mine, the Iron Eagle series, Toy Soldiers and The Punisher, in an acting career that spans over five decades.
Early life and education
Gossett was born in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York, on May 27, 1936, to Hellen Rebecca (née Wray), a nurse, and Louis Gossett Sr., a porter. He is an alumnus of Mark Twain Intermediate School 239 and Abraham Lincoln High School. His stage debut came at the age of 17, in a school production of You Can't Take It with You when a sports injury resulted in the decision to take an acting class. Polio had already delayed his graduation.
After graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1954, he attended New York University, declining an athletic scholarship. Standing 6'4" (1.93 m), he was offered the opportunity to play varsity basketball during his college years at NYU, which he declined to concentrate on theater. His high school teacher had encouraged him to audition for a Broadway part, which resulted in his selection for a starring role on Broadway in 1953 from among 200 other actors well before he entered NYU.
Career
Gossett replaced Bill Gunn as Spencer Scott in Broadway's Take a Giant Step, which was selected by The New York Times drama critics as one of the 10 best shows of the year. He was 17, and still a student at Abraham Lincoln High School, with no formal drama training.
Gossett's Broadway theatre credits include A Raisin in the Sun (1959). Gossett stepped into the world of cinema in the Sidney Poitier vehicle A Raisin in the Sun in 1961.
Also in 1961, Gossett appeared in the original cast of Jean Genet's The Blacks, the longest running off-Broadway play of the decade, running for 1,408 performances. The original cast also featured James Earl Jones, Roscoe Lee Browne, Cicely Tyson, Godfrey Cambridge, Maya Angelou and Charles Gordone.
In 1965, Gossett appeared in the musical play, Zulu and the Zayda on Broadway as Paulus with music and lyrics by Harold Rome.
Gossett wrote the antiwar folk song "Handsome Johnny" with Richie Havens which Havens recorded in 1966.
His Emmy Award-winning role of Fiddler in the 1977 television miniseries Roots first brought Gossett to the audience's attention.
In 1983, he was cast in the title role in Sadat, a miniseries which chronicled the life and assassination of Anwar Sadat. While filming An Officer and a Gentleman, Gossett was also starring in the 1982–1983 science fiction series, The Powers of Matthew Star. His role as drill instructor Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the 1982 film An Officer and a Gentleman won him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was the first African-American male to win an Oscar in a supporting role, the second black male to win for acting, and the third African-American actor to win overall.
In 1986, Gossett starred in another role as a military man (Colonel Chappy Sinclair) in the film Iron Eagle. It was followed by three sequels.
Gossett is the voice of the Vortigaunts in the video game Half-Life 2 and is the Free Jaffa Leader Gerak in Season 9 of the sci-fi television series Stargate SG-1. He provides the voice of Lucius Fox in The Batman animated series. He recorded several commercials for a Nashville-based diabetic company, AmMed Direct, LLC. In 1997, Gossett presented When Animals Attack! 4, a one-hour special on Fox.
He played the role of fictional U.S. President Gerald Fitzhugh in the 2005 film Left Behind: World at War. In 2008 he filmed the "Keep It Real" series of commercials for the Namibian lager Windhoek.
In 2009, Gossett also lent his voice talents in the Thomas Nelson audio Bible production known as The Word of Promise. In this dramatized audio, Gossett played the character of John the Apostle. The project also featured a large ensemble of well known Hollywood actors including Jim Caviezel, John Rhys-Davies, Jon Voight, Gary Sinise, Jason Alexander, Christopher McDonald, Marissa Tomei and John Schneider.
In 2013, Gossett starred in the controversial drama, Boiling Pot, which is based on true events of racism that occurred on college campuses across the country during the 2008 Presidential election. The film, written and directed by the Ashmawey brothers under AshmaweyFilms, also stars Danielle Fishel, Keith David, M. Emmet Walsh, and John Heard. Gossett plays a detective attempting to decipher a murder case that was fueled by racism, all while putting aside his own prejudices. Boiling Pot was released in 2014. Gossett returned to television in the CBS All Access series, The Good Fight, guest starring as founding partner Carl Reddick of Diane Lockhart's new firm.
Personal life
Gossett has been married three times and fathered one son and adopted one son. His first marriage was to Hattie Glascoe; it was annulled. His second, to Christina Mangosing, took place on August 21, 1973. Their son Satie was born in 1974. Gossett and Mangosing divorced in 1975. His third marriage, to Star Search champion Cyndi James-Reese, took place on December 25, 1987. They adopted a son, Sharron (born 1977). Gossett and James-Reese divorced in 1992.
Louis is the uncle of actor Robert Gossett who starred on TNT's The Closer.
According to DNA analysis, he is descended, chiefly, from people of Liberia and Sierra Leone.
On February 9, 2010, Gossett announced that he was suffering from prostate cancer. He added: the disease was caught in its early stages, and expects to make a full recovery.
On July 18, 2016, Mr. Gosset cohosted as a guest programmer on Turner Classic Movies' primetime lineup. Allowed to choose four movies to air, he selected Blackboard Jungle, Lifeboat, Touch of Evil and The Night of the Hunter.

Even though people are apprehensive by this idea because of KOF MI and XII and even Sky Stage, an anime was promised and that may have a dub? Who knows? Filling in voicecanons is fun!
