State of Project

Description of which stage you are at in the project: what has been completed and what is still to be completed -

As of now for our prototype, we have completed most of the main HTML pages required as well as added the CSS along for each of them. There still remains perhaps three or four mains information pages that need to be added to the overall website (more HTML and CSS mostly). Javascript as also been implemented in certain parts of the website such as the randomLinks function which randomizes between the created page in a completely random way, thus allowing the user to experience the website in many different ways if they so choose to come back and play again. At first, we also had both a submit and a continue button, using Ajax and the created randomLinks function we’ve managed to make the submit button both store that given data as well as serve as a button to flip through the randomized pages.

After the main pages have been added, we are looking into adding random pages who don’t require us to gather information from the user, these pages may serve as a breather in between the information-gathering ones. We don’t want the experience of the user to simply question after question, we still want them to find entertainment in exploring the website. Perhaps these pages will include little anecdotes about us or little reminders of their time on the website, or even random images to complete the overall eerie and out-of-place look we have done with our CSS.

We have implemented questions and text-areas for the user to answer the given questions on the pages so that we may gather their information. At first, the answers given weren’t truly stored anywhere but PHP and Ajax were added so the information may be stored and posted. We have yet to create a databank so that we may find the information given and use them to create a user profile. 

For the user profile, at first, we were thinking of creating a simple passport-like profile in which we would feed back to the user any information about them that they had given us. However, we realized how each of our pages contained a little information about us in the form of a little story. Therefore for the user profile, we want to go with somewhat of a fill-in-the blanks storyline:

User Story Template (something along these lines) —

Hello, __name__! It says here that you grew up in __hometown__ and your birthday is __birthday__. You also have __haircolour__, and __eyecolour__ eyes! Amazing!

You did go to high school at __highschool__? Right? And now you’re studying __uniprogram__ at __uni__. After that, you did tell us what your dream job was __job__. That’s quite a job…

According to our records, you enjoy __hobby1__, __hobby2__, and __food__. We’ve never had that, must be good if it’s your favourite!

Your partner’s name is __partner__, and you’ve been together for __years__ years!

We know a bit about your parents too! Their names are __pname1__ and __pname2__. You’ve told us about your relationship with them and said it was __padjective__. Now you also have __nsiblings__ siblings, and your relationship with them is __sadjective__. Is that so?

Now the information given by the users may be completely random and not make any sense within their final story but that’s part of the fun! On one side we are gathering quite personal information about them, perhaps making them question their online security and how much they divulge on the web but also it brings up the question of online persona and who we may choose to be on our social media platforms. People are able to create their own images of themselves and choose what they want the world to see thus becoming best friends with Brad Pitt and studying at Concordia University while being born in the 1800s!
