how long have u been an exo fan/how did you become a fan?

i've mostly listened to them casually since 2019 without me knowing they were kpop.. like for some reason i have artificial love and transformer in my liked songs from my pre kpop era for some fucking reason?

and then this is a self burn to admit but i got into them because of superm. late 2020 i stumbled into the superm reality show on youtube and from there i branched off into the different groups that made them up..

then in early 2021 i was bewitched by the performance of lady luck you know the one with the acoustic medley at exordium i think it was... and I was like holy fuck you mean I was listening to fuck ass superm when I could have been listening to this????

but what made me ult them was definitely chanyeol i am not afraid to admit i followed my pussy on that one... that editorial for w korea with the platinum undercut did it for me not gonna lie... like my first comeback was dftf so you can imagine the state of things.... chanyeol in the trenches baekhyun followed suit jongdae was getting death threats and no one had seen or heard from suho and kyungsoo in months.... I legit don't understand how or why I decided to become an exo stan at the time

this is so crazy bcuz when i experienced my first exo comeback (dftf) i was at the tail end of my freshman year and now the 2nd one is happening 2 months before i become a senior

It’s out. The anticipated new song that trended before it was even released. I can’t believe I’ve been playing this song on repeat for the hundredth time today.

I just realized this is my first EXO comeback as a complete group! I started listening to their songs back in 2020 when I discovered DFTF because I was so mesmerized with Chanyeol (even now!) I never thought I’d like another boy group after Bigbang yet here we are!

I’m so proud that I support EXO and I’m happy that I’m part of this fandom. I love them so much and I’m glad they made me fall in love with K-Pop again.

Oh! I’ll also join my fellow EXO-L on the block screening for Kyungsoo’s The Moon this August! I’ll pay in full tomorrow so I can finally reserve my seats. I’m also looking forward to the freebies! This is my first event and hopefully I’d be able to go to their concert here in the Philippines as a full group.

Did u see the open letter that some “exo-ls” wrote to the members criticizing them for having more solo albums and activities compared to the group?

Did they forget about something called MILITARY SERVICE?! It’s not like they are choosing to focus on solo projects and completely forgoing group activities like SNSD did from 2017-2022. They simply can’t do a lot right now with SeKai enlisted. And that’s how it’s been for the last few years with all of them (sans Lay) going in and out of the military.

Yeah, has it been a while since we had a full blown full group (by full I mean ot9) comeback? Yes. Is it sad? Yes. But do I blame the members? No. Let’s not act like sm isn’t doing everything they can do to do the bare minimum for them since 2017, way before their military service started. And they devoted all of their 20s to the group. They deserve to explore their solo careers, esp now more than ever! (Tbh, personally I would love for them to also focus on their personal lives and find someone they love if they so choose)

And it’s not like the group is totally inactive, they’re still having fanmeets and releasing group albums when they can, like the fm they had LAST MONTH and DFTF? I think they’re gonna release an album in the later half of the year. Ofc it’s not the same as a full on comeback, but given the circumstances I’ll take it!

This has been our lives since 2020 so idk why they think things were going to go back to how it was in like 2016?? Esp since they’re all in different companies now. Like it’s different. I’m thankful for any project, solo or not, so why complain when they’re still releasing stuff?

Like DUH we’d all like a full cb but suho said we were getting something so ??? What we complaining for? This fandom is so funny cause they bitch when the members bring up exo and they bitch when they don’t. The damn boys can’t win for losing I fear

I can think of like 4 things that’s actually worth complaining over in the fandom and the members releasing music ain’t one of them!!!

Paradise is such a subversive song; you *know* exo could’ve turned a song like that into a filthy r&b track in the vein of Artificial Love and utterly wrecked us. Instead it’s more akin to Touch It, where the message is sexy, but the beat is funky/retro.

Also, is this the first time they’ve cursed in English on one of their songs?

Okay, some word vomit as I listen to the B-sides, then a quick summary (aka more word vomit):

Just As Usual has such lovely harmonies. (Duh.) A CHANSOO HARMONY! And Sehun liiines! 😍😍😍 Electric guitar helloo?? And YIXIIIING! And did my ears deceive me or did Jongin get the high note at the end???

Jongin getting a starting verse on Runaway holy— Ohhh I’m getting Oasis vibes! Omg the Kyungsoo harmoniiiies! I’m about to weep at hearing Yixing so much and I’ve only heard two songs! Hit that note Baek. MORE YIXING. Kyungsoo ad liiiib...

Paradise. Awwww I’ll never get over when they let kji go high! ........Beg pardon?? What is happening with this song!? 😂 Awww is that Kaisoo or am I nuts? I’m LIVING for all the *SINGING* Sehun and Chanyeol are getting to do! PFFT! Okay, I haven’t read the lyrics but is this the sexy song? KYUNGSOO’S ENGLISH THANK YOU OH MY GOD!

Okay, I saved No Matter for last because I suspected it would be my favorite. Let’s see... Is that the piano a ton of songs had back in the 70’s?? If so, they are going AUTHENTIC on the retro! I only just now see how little I’ve talked about Minseok, but he is *killing* these songs, I’m so happy for him! PFFFT! The sound effects in this album, jeez. 😂 Someone invited Mariah Carey Baekhyun to join us on this track. Welcome back, I was worried we lost you on All I Got.

First impression, it’s *super* Pop and bubbly, which makes sense given that seems to be the direction K-pop is trending rn. (Presumably trying to inject some positivity into the world after 2020, but what do I know.) Plus it’s a stark contrast to Obsession in a *lot* of ways; lyrics, minimal makeup, muted wardrobe, brighter sound. And one of the best parts of being an exo fan is knowing each concept will give you something different.

It’s really heavy on Baek, which I suspect is because the higher register boys aren’t there. I wouldn’t say I’m *complaining,* but if these songs are part of a setlist after Jongdae and Junmyeon get back from the military I’d love to see what parts they take. I’m so happy hearing Yixing’s voice with the group again; I didn’t want to get my hopes up in his involvement on the b sides, but verses and harmonies galore! 😭 And of course, I’m thrilled that Kyungsoo’s back. I missed his voice so much on Obsession, it’s not even funny, and I was already going crazy at how much screentime he got in the mv and how cute he was being! I will say I was bummed about Sehun in the mv; I thought we had evolved past the Call Me Baby distribution for this poor boy. But at least the album makes up for it. He sounds so beautiful! ☺️ And after all the effort Jongin showed us in his solo, he had some genuinely great vocal segments on this album, and I’m so happy for him. ❤️ I was surprised at how little it felt like Chanyeol rapped this album, but really it seems like they’re trying to show how many of the members can sing. Which uh...wbk. And I *loved* hearing Minseok so much; it was hard to tell from how I did this first listen, but I hope he had a chance to go into his higher register.

So, overall, it’s my boys singing new songs again, and that’s enough to make me happy. 😊 I don’t think it’ll be my new favorite; there’s just a bit of that special EXO flavor that’s missing to me, but it is a joyful concept that’s really welcome right now. Actually the happy vibes that permeate the album pretty much guarantee replay; which means these songs have all summer to grow on me. And considering it’s EXO, that shouldn’t be very hard. ❤️
