Original Post
Article by @warrenwoodhouse
So you want to know what Codename: Silent Night is then, right? Well I designed my own maps for use with Command & Conquer: Generals and Command & Conquer: Generals: Zero:Hour, so I decided to make my own story for my own maps that I’ve constructed. This is the official website for Codename: Silent Night so I hope you check back frequently to see whats new and I hope to share the final project with you on the coming years.
For now, you can check out the official downloads page on the EA website by CLICKING HERE.

20th anniversary Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour
Incredible atmosphere, dynamics, sound, music and realism. So much loved and modded to this day. The game is still number one in military strategies.
Big Thank you to the game development team and Electronic Arts Inc. Wars go on......

This is the recreation of evolutionary timeline the Vulkan from "Power Play Universe" and its emblem has gone through in terms of design.
Starting all the way from the 2010s or so, it was meant to be more or less an edgy rebel faction set in Russia, eventually growing more and more powerful to warrant international attention. This idea was kinda...silly, to say the least, but the basis of this faction remained the same, now taking the form of an oppressed minority faction sought to make a stand in a fictional world, fighting against the tyranny of its former government, only to be driven, out of desperation, into becoming a regime ruled by an iron fist itself.
Some of these designs were also used in the past, ending up in places like NationStates and what not, with its latest design appearing in my own modification of Command and Conquer: General/Zero Hour called "C&C Power Play".

Hot take: specialisation is one of the best parts of being human, and if you don't believe me, play Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour.
The game has aged absolutely horribly. The three factions are USA, China, and "GLA" (terrorists, as defined by someone who's watched maybe 30 minutes of Fox News in 2003). The voice acting varies from mildly to severely racist, depending on how much you believe it was done in good faith (though, to be fair to the game, the Americans are just as heavily stereotyped as the other factions). But: it does one thing that's absolutely fantastic. When you play, you pick one general to play as, and they tweak the base game to suit it.
You want to play as the air force general? Great. You're going to get stronger planes, and weaker ground troops. You want to play the toxin general? Go off! You will do great against infantry and fold on the spot if tanks show up.
This specialisation is fantastic for two reasons. One, it mechanically reinforces the different "identities" of the generals, and makes playing as (or against!) each of them more unique. But two, and more important, is that it gives people asymmetry; you're never just racing to do the same thing, and so the game isn't just decided by who clicks the Correct Buttons quickest. (At least, not for casual play! I'm not a pro.)
This is also why monopoly is bad, by the way - it's got no asymmetry. You either win by luck or because someone else made bad choices. I designed a fix for this; it works pretty well.
Anyhow. Think about it - fantasy and sci-fi stories absolutely love having each nation (or planet, or species) heavily specialised. These folks are the best wizards in the world, or make the best laser rifles; you get the picture. It's sort of true to history, to an extent, too: Murano glass, Sheffield steel, Edo bay sushi - places specialise!
And it's really important, because it's efficient. If you have every city on earth trying to do everything, they all need really versatile infrastructure! But if your city *only* does glassware? You can gear the whole place around it! But that's not the main reason I like specialisation.
I like specialisation because it's great emotionally. Being proud of your hometown is... honestly iffy at the best of times, if all it has going for it is "being born there". But if there's a long tradition there - or even a recent one! - of making the best soup in the country? If it's got the best swimming pool in the whole area? If it's got a great flower festival, or a beautiful castle and a great museum culture? That's worth celebrating!
Specialisation is to a place what self-expression is to a person, and it's just as important. Places, cultures and nations need things to identify with, or those same instincts towards hometown pride just turn into us-versus-them. I'm a Midlands gal, and that's where the Industrial Revolution was born! Canals, ironworking, and, yes, a lot of exploitation - but it means there's a fantastic museum culture. Shrewsbury flower show is beautiful! Ludlow food festival is amazing, even if it's a bit on the pricey side. The Ironbridge Gorge Museums are all fantastic! And I'm proud of that.
I like that the history and culture that raised me is one I can be proud of without needing to tear anyone else down. Because we don't have the best food, or the best clothes, or the best sights, and that means I get to see those in other places! Specialisation, and regional identity, are things you can be proud of, and proud to be part of, and that matters because it means you feel rooted. It means you've got a background, and a home, on a wider scale than just your family.
If we don't specialise, it all just feels grey. I think that's part of the pushback against "globalism" on the right wing! Because so many of those right-wing instincts are of pride, of wanting your home to feel like it, and seeing it turn to empty buildings or soulless corporate shops surrounded by identical Barratt-box homes feels like you're losing your home. Going from meetings in the village hall to scrolling through Nextdoor feels like the death of community. And I think it's so, so important to recognise that, while a lot of the people on the modern right-wing are pretty hateful, a lot of the impulses don't come from hate so much as from grief.
They're grieving a collective identity that was taken away by capitalism, basically. And they've been sold on the idea that minority groups they never used to be aware of are the problem, because the two things were at *roughly* the same time, so it's easy to blame one on the other. But I think an awful lot of the people feeling so aggrieved about the state of the world are one good conversation away from understanding the real problem.
So, yeah. Specialisation. It matters! Humans need direction, individually and collectively, and without actual specialisation they'll just latch onto tribalism.
This turned into a very long post, but if you read it all I'd love to hear what people think about it!
