Hiya! Are you going to read 'Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign'? It's on my 'to buy' list on Amazon and I was thinking of buying it to read after uni exams but I've seen in the media that it runs with a narrative (at least at certain stages) that it's Hillary herself who is to blame for her election loss. Any thoughts on it or would you recommend any other post-2016 books that I could add to my HRC shelf?

i don’t think i am, only because i’ve heard some harsh criticisms from senior HFA staffers about the book, which makes sense because there’s a portion of the book that basically shits on her brooklyn campaign hq office and some of it that blames her and her campaign for her eventual defeat. while i appreciated the excerpt of her calling obama after her loss, it was very bittersweet, i will not be buying it. but i’d definitely recommend susan bordo’s book the destruction of hillary clinton. notes from the cracked glass ceiling by anne kornblut is also another one of my faves, though it was centered around the 2008 election (though if you’re not a fan of sarah palin and reading about her as well, then i would not recommend this)

To be honest, I think a border poll is unlikely for the foreseeable, no matter how entitled we are to it. The last Northern Ireland Assembly election was momentous in that it produced an overall Nationalist majority for the first time, but the way government is set up in the North with D'Hondt, and the fact that both Nationalists and Unionists have to agree to the idea all but scuppers the chances of it happening any time soon, especially with Arlene Foster in her present full on arrogant mode. Plus the British government would have be on board too, and as much as Northern Ireland has been a persistent pain in the arse to successive U.K. administrations, they don’t want to give it up, and I would imagine that’s an even more entrenched notion with Brexit. May is determined to drag the entirety of the United Kingdom into the black hole that is Brexit, and that seems to mean ensuring that Scotland and Northern Ireland don’t escape her plans, despite the fact that both regions voted to Remain, and that Northern Ireland especially is intrinsically linked to the EU in so many ways because of the relationship with the Republic of Ireland. I was reading just yesterday about how Brexit might well affect Northern Ireland’s electricity supply because in the years since the Good Friday Agreement, things like electricity has become a cross border business. I’d love a border poll, and I think it’s long overdue that the people of Northern Ireland had an actual direct say on their destiny, but unlike in Scotland where the SNP are the government, even if Sinn Fein won more seats in the next Assembly election and Michelle O'Neill became First Minister, she’d be unable to call a poll without the DUP agreeing to it, and I think we’re more likely to see them shit rainbows than that happen any time soon :(
