Transcription of Tural Travelogue, pt. 5: Earthenshire/Arcadion M1/M2

(Dawntrail All Quests Spoilers ahead)

4A/26S - checking in on Many Fires before moving on to Earthenshire on foot. Travel has resumed for the most part as traders use the river instead of the [Flight]. By the time traders get here, they're hungry and tired. Helped a moblin named Chekochuck[sic] gather meat. Bird of Ligaka—fried or grilled. Mamool Ja prefer widowmaker meat stewed in chilies. Pungeant[sic] but tasty.

Fruit seller waylaid by delays happy to share fruit on the verge of spoilage. Lots of talk about new commodity exports from the dome. Should talk to Hancock and Tataru (Rowena too?) about this. Lolorito's funding of the project was contingient[sic] on access to Shard-exclusive wares. Going to suggest this doesn't count since the dome is on the Source.

Electrope? Probably needs more lightning concentration than exists on the Source (hopefully).

4A/29S - Trying Hanu pigment in ink. Spoke with Lolorito after all. Visited Hancock in Kugane and —

In short, Lolorito's contract to provide funding for Project Ark is still valid, and this incident doesn't apply.

Checked in with Kuiki[sic] while in Kugane. I'toca was a psudonym[sic]. She got word of the impostor, Samidare, trying to impersonate Hien. Supposedly Samidare is a former Garlean conscript skilled at fomenting unrest through manipulation tactics, but impersonating Hien is downright idiotic. And then he had the temerity to impersonate me! The folk at the House of the Fierce caught on and we drove the impostor out. He followed us to Kugane and tried to lead us into a trap at Hell's Lid. Obvious plot. Kuiki[sic] got nervous and ended up tackling him before he could try catching me. I could have taken him, but I understand her concern. I'toca, whose name Kuiyki had used, died in a similar circumstance.

It's been two years since that time in Garlemald. But I know how it feels to watch someone steal your face to hurt your love ones. Taking her to visit the Mol. Nothing more comforting than getting buried in sheep. Also want to check in with gramma.

4A/30S - Do not drink tea from the moblins! Although the smell is likely warning enough.

Teleported to Earthenshire, but had reason to backtrack to Many Fires anyway, so I got to see the path. The violet flower fields reminded me of Lakeland. Air thick with flower smell. And the marsh, Ligaka, is much deeper than I expected.

Anyway, spent the day helping a potsworn and his assistant moblin make gifts for each other. I'm afraid he might be making a pouch for the very ruby she intends to give him? Don't want to give anything of their surprises away, so I'm not saying anything, but I am dying inside. I don't know what to make of their behavior towards each other, although they clearly love each other very much. Anfroy and Movamuck Movamuq.

Anfroy is spending the night in a settlement nearby called Cracked Cistern. Home of artisans who left their potpact for one reason or another.

4A/32S - Didn't get the chance to write yesterday. Anfroy and Movamuq presented their farewell gifts to each other. Anfroy indeed made a box for Movamuq to store the ruby which she made into a necklace for his gift. I'm sure she'll find a new treasure to put in the box.

I accompanied Movamuq to Many Fires and met with Nahanshe again! He's been traveling as much as I have. His latest task is to find the original designer for the Landsguard's armor, who currently lives in the Cracked Cistern. The designer, Rostand, was willing to help, but couldn't relocate as far as Tuliyollal. We found a compromise in setting up a workshop in Ok'hanu. I let slip my experience as an armorer, so I spent the rest of the day and yesterday setting up the workshop and helping with the sample armor pieces.

Diplomatic metting in Ishgard today [sic, tomorrow]. Helping with small tasks in Earthenshire, then I'll spend the night in Ishgard.

5U/1S - As expected, Lyophyne tried to interupt[sic] the delegation, but not when we expected. Tentoawa, Loazenikwe, and I went to Ok'Zundu early to prepare. As we were speaking with Sonu Vanu, the chief, Leophyne caused the Ishgardian delegation to crash land. We caught her before she could do worse. I ended up getting put to sleep, but the Vanu were able to wake me and the Ishgardians with their dance. Leophyne ultimately got away, but we did get the Cradle back.

Teleported back to Tuliyollal with Tentoawa and Loazenikwe for dinner with Raha at Br'uk Evu's. Tacos! Going to check out the Arcadion tomorrow. I need something to wake me up after today.

5U/2S - To start, the Arcadion seems...normal? It's effectively a colleseum[sic], which is approximately what I expected. The catch is competitors use souls of creatures to empower themselves, like Zoraal Ja's soldiers. Alternatively, competitors can be souls stored in their banks. This entire soul economy of theirs is a mess but that's politics and policy I don't have the authority or place to—well, I can't just tell them to stop and expect them to do it. This has been their way of life for centuries. Now that they're on the Source we can probably wean them off the system, and surely people outside of the dome won't—

I need about fifty more of those energy drinks. I'm so tired. Of course this shite is going to get used for war as soon as it leaves the dome.

That is a problem for later. For now, I took part in a round of combat at the Arcadion, under the condition that I would not use one of their soul things, and the souls powering the simulacra on my team would be released from the system every time I win. They were happy to make the accomodation[sic] if it would get me to participate. Metem, the Millala[sic] Master of Ceremonies, caught me in True Vue and invited me personally.

First match was against a Turali Hhetsaro named Yaana, fighting under the alias Black Cat. She fought well, but I don't think she eexpected to fight someone with the ability to foresee aether. She did catch me toward the end of the fight, but I still won in the end. Tomorrow, next match against "Honey B. Lovely." Songstress, charming magic, poison. Bring antidotes?

5U/3S - Second match is today. Went looking for that boy with lightning sickness but didn't remember his apartment. I'm not equipped to heal him at the moment anyway. Raha thinks we'll need to recalibrate the detempering spell since the victims here aren't tempered, only aetherically unbalanced. Slightly less rebalancing necessary and no need to uncover memories. We're hoping to use S9's computational power to work it out, although that's going to take time and leadership to get done. I think Lamatyi[sic] and Koana are working out a regency? They're so busy now it's hard to say.

Helped a kid find his mom and found some Alexandrian wine for a Shetona mourning his Alexandrian friend. I'm glad the Alexandrians were there for the people of Yyasulani.

Antidotes would have done nothing. I'm going to be irritated about that match for a while. We won, but only because I showed my hand and tapped into dynamis. Honey B. must have reviewed my match against Yaana because she had an answer to my foresight: scattershotting the entire area in her venom. She charmed me twice! I was in anaphyactic[sic] shock before I could even think to down an antidote, let alone cast Esuna. If I ever have to face her again, I'm bringing a gun or a sword.

Yaana is officially my "second" now, and she can help me research before the next match. Gods know I need the help is the next match is anything like this one.

The worst thing is I've got Honey B's song stuck in my head.

Yaana is letting me stay in her home tonight. Met her little sister, Neyuni. They have an older sister too, Eutrope, although she disappeared recently. Considering the dome, I can't imagine she's gone far. I hope she's okay.

Apparently the soul transfiguration method takes a toll on fighters. Zoraal Ja must have known although That must be why his core army was mechanized. I'm taking some comfort in the knowledge that the wartime applications are limited. It's like a slightly improved version of what we saw in Werlyt.

Actually what it really calls to mind is Athena's method of creating a god. Her attempt, that is. If the users were unsundered, the soul transfiguration would effectively create a hemitheos. Reviewing other combatants in the morning. We won't know who I'm up against until tomorrow. Going to be up late if this tonic has anything to say about it.

Rijha revelled in the warmth of sunlight as it streamed down through the trees, the autumnal foliage of the Rift casting the road in a kaleidoscope of red and gold. They veered off the road towards the river. Alfsigr was quick to take a long drink, while Rijha used the remaining contents of her waterskin to wash off the sweat. They could probably do with getting her fur clipped, as even though winter was far behind them it was still thick enough for Rijha to run her fingers through. Perhaps someone in Ivarstead would be able to do it while she was up at High Hrothgar.

When she was certain that Alfsigr was cooled off, Rijha crouched beside the river to refill the waterskin, and took a swig. The sound of leaves under foot caught her ear, but she paid no mind to it. The ringing of metal filled the air.

There was a blade at the back of her neck.

“Hand over your valuables.”

Slowly, Rijha turned to her assailant. He was a scrappy little thing, bowlegged and knuckles white around a cheap iron dagger. She pushed the blade away from her face with careful hands, and tilted her head to get a better look under his hood, “What are you doing?”

“Fuck do you mean? I’m robbing you.”

Rijha gave him a scrutinising look, “With that stance?” The thief squirmed under her gaze. He seemed like he was about to back down, but then puffed his chest out and tried again.

“If you don't hand over all your stuff right now I’ll— I’ll gut you like a fish.”

“I’d like to see you try.” He lunged for her and she grabbed his wrist, disarming and knocking him to the ground in one swift movement. She stood above the thief, twirling the dagger that was now in her hands, “Now, see, your first problem is that someone of your size can’t just use brute force, it’s not our way and, well, it just doesn't work, you know? Especially up here where every other person is built like a stone fortress. Secondly, you’re way too stiff.” Rijha grabbed the boy by his arm and pulled him up onto his feet, “Right, point your feet forward, shoulders width apart, bend your knees a little and bring yourself up onto your toes. That’s it. Do you feel more mobile now?”

“I… guess so?”

“Good. Here,” she offered back his knife, “Relax your grip a little, as long as you hold it correctly you won’t drop it. Now the only time you should be facing someone with a knife is for self defence, so bring your arms up, your free hand by your face so you can guard if need be. Getting stabbed in the arm is better than getting stabbed in the eye, yes?”

“Yeah.” Rijha stepped back and let him make a few practice swings. The improvement was immediate.

“Much better! You’re more balanced, you can move around easily, all it takes is correcting your stance. But remember, this is just self defence, if you want to rob people you need to use less knife and more brain.”

The thief straightened his back, “Are you saying I’m dumb?”

“I’m saying my horse was right there, you probably could have taken my saddlebags without me noticing.” He looked back at where Alfsigr was grazing by the river.

“Oh.”

“The key is being subtle. Ditch the hood and the armour, if you just look like a passerby, another nameless face in the crowd, no one will suspect you. Cut their purses from their belts as you walk past or get a friend to act as a distraction while you pick a few pockets. Truth is, most people won’t notice you, but what they will notice is some shifty hooded person skulking around, and that’s what's going to get you caught.” Rijha returned to Alfsigr’s side, pulled out a small bag of coins and chucked it his way, “Here, I’ll give a head start.”

He looked down at the bag as he caught it, before looking up at her in confusion, “Who are you?”

Pulling herself up into the saddle, Rijha put on her most innocent voice, “Me? Oh, I’m just some middle-aged washed up adventurer making the rounds, no one special. Shadows hide you, friend.” With that, she pushed Alfsigr forward, continuing on towards Ivarstead.

The Ragged Flagon was quiet, as it often was these days. No one had the money to buy drinks, and Vekel was getting stingy about not giving anything out on the house. Brynjolf sighed into his ale as he looked over the guild finances. Nothing but losses. The door to the cistern opened, and Delvin nudged his shoulder.

“Look who’s finally back.”

Brynjolf turned his head to see the new footpad, exhaustion written all over his face, “Well, I’ll be, we weren’t sure you’d show up again, lad. Find anything decent?”

“Yeah, sure, I guess you could say that.” He dropped his pack onto the table, and Delvin nearly choked on his drink when he peeked inside. Brynjolf abandoned his paperwork to help clear out the bag. It was mostly coin, and a few trinkets, but it was more than anyone else had brought in all month. Delvin wasted no time in counting it all out, while the footpad slumped down in a chair, face hidden in his hands.

“You alright, lad?”

He let out a long sigh, “I just… had the weirdest experience of my entire life.” The two older thieves shared a look. This should be interesting.

“Go on then, lad. Tell us all about it.”

Sure, you might score a big cistern that will nourish you and your people as well as your crops for a cycle, but what then? What if the various guilds cross your tribe off their routes and you’ll never see the sloshing caravans again? It is wiser to leave them alone… As long as they don’t extort too much for every drop.

What is an Up flush Toilet Working Prosses?

An up flush toilet is a type of toilet that uses water to remove human waste from the bowl. This type of toilet differs from a low flush toilet in its use of gravity.

Low flush toilets are designed to conserve water, and they do this by sending all the waste through a pipe that goes down to the sewer system.

On the other hand, gravity helps an up flush toilet move everything but solid materials out of the bowl with the help of water. The process starts when you push or pull on a lever or button that activates an electric pump.

This pump sends a powerful stream of clean water into your bowl at high pressure, breaking up any solids and pushing them through your pipes to be carried away by gravity.

Up flush toilets have been around for years. In fact, many older homes still use them, but recently they've become more popular.

One reason for this is that up flush toilets are a lot easier to install because they don't need any extra parts or spaces in the bathroom to install them.

You simply take out the old toilet and put in the new one; all you need to do is drain your old water tank so you don't have water pressure in your bathroom.

It also does not require any kind of sucking action or holding tank as you would find on a vacuum-assisted system. It has no moving parts, no water pressure from above, and does not use any type of flushing system.

The flush mechanism on an upflush toilet is actually located on the tank itself without the aid of a cistern or holding tank. The piston in the flush mechanism is attached to a valve that opens and closes as you flush with water.

The valve controls when the toilet flushes by opening and closing in response to the amount of pressure above it. This allows for variable pressures even at maximum capacity; thus, no pumping or siphoning is required.

Once you have installed a new upflush toilet, you will realize just how efficient this type of water closet is. This can especially be true if you are using a cistern or commode-style toilet with an upflush mechanism.

Installing a commode or cistern full of water and piping it to the head of your upflush toilet will allow you to use less water per flush than other systems do.

In addition, you can do away with the need for toilet paper peels, floor drains that collect liquid waste, and water rinsing when emptying the tank after each use.

You’ll save on the cost of water and you will see a reduced carbon footprint as well. The benefits of an up flush toilet float along with its design of emptying waste from the bowl.

The only possible way to achieve these results is by creating an open area beneath the pipe that empties into the waste system. This creates a less dense space for waste to be formed, thus giving you a reduction in overall mass for each discharge.

The pressure from above keeps this force moving downwards until it meets the open portion below the pipe, where it will continue to travel through that space until it reaches a lower pressure area or gravity takes over.

Essentially, you are creating a pressure differential between the bowl and the open space below the pipe, which will move waste to a point of less resistance.

Paul illuminates the significance of forgiveness and grace in the writing of a Letter.

Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 2nd chapter of the Letter of 2nd Corinthians:

I finally determined that I would not come to you again for yet another agonizing visit. If my visits create such pain and sorrow for you, who can cheer me up except for those I’ve caused such grief? This is exactly what I was writing to you about earlier so that when we are face-to-face I will not have to wallow in sadness in the presence of friends who should bring me the utmost joy. For I felt sure that my delight would also become your delight. My last letter to you was covered with tears, composed with great difficulty, and frankly, a broken heart. It wasn’t my intention to depress you or cause you pain; rather, I had hoped you would see it for what it was—a demonstration of the overwhelming love I have for all of you.

But if anyone has caused harm, he has not so much harmed me as he has—and I don’t think I’m exaggerating here—harmed all of you. In my view, the majority of you have punished him well enough. So instead of continuing to ostracize him, I encourage you to offer him the grace of forgiveness and the comfort of your acceptance. Otherwise, if he finds no welcome back to the community, I’m afraid he will be overwhelmed with extreme sorrow and lose all hope. So I urge you to demonstrate your love for him once again. I wrote these things to you with a clear purpose in mind: to test whether you are willing to live and abide by all my counsel. If you forgive anyone, I forgive that one as well. Have no doubt, anything that I have forgiven—when I do forgive—is done ultimately for you in the presence of the Anointed One. It’s my duty to make sure that Satan does not win even a small victory over us, for we don’t want to be naïve and then fall prey to his schemes.

When I arrived at Troas, bringing the good news of the Anointed, the Lord opened a door there for me. Yet my spirit was restless because I could not find my brother Titus. Eventually I told them good-bye and set out for Macedonia.

Yet I am so thankful to God, who always marches us to victory under the banner of the Anointed One; and through us He spreads the beautiful fragrance of His knowledge to every corner of the earth. In a turbulent world where people are either dying or being rescued, we are the sweet smell of the Anointed to God our Father. To those who are dying, they smell the stench of death in us. And to those being rescued, we are the unmistakable scent of life. Who is worthy of this calling? For we are nothing like the others who sell the word of God like a commodity. Do not be mistaken; our words come from God with the utmost sincerity, always spoken through the Anointed in the presence of God.

The Letter of 2nd Corinthians, Chapter 2 (The Voice)

Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 53rd chapter of the book (scroll) of Isaiah that illuminates the significance of the forgiveness of sins through the suffering of the Son on our behalf:

Indeed, who would ever believe it?

Who would possibly accept what we’ve been told?

Who has witnessed the awesome power and plan of the Eternal in action?

Out of emptiness he came, like a tender shoot from rock-hard ground.

He didn’t look like anything or anyone of consequence—

he had no physical beauty to attract our attention.

So he was despised and forsaken by men,

this man of suffering, grief’s patient friend.

As if he was a person to avoid, we looked the other way;

he was despised, forsaken, and we took no notice of him.

Yet it was our suffering he carried,

our pain and distress, our sick-to-the-soul-ness.

We just figured that God had rejected him,

that God was the reason he hurt so badly.

But he was hurt because of us; he suffered so.

Our wrongdoing wounded and crushed him.

He endured the breaking that made us whole.

The injuries he suffered became our healing.

We all have wandered off, like shepherdless sheep,

scattered by our aimless striving and endless pursuits;

The Eternal One laid on him, this silent sufferer,

the sins of us all.

And in the face of such oppression and suffering—silence.

Not a word of protest, not a finger raised to stop it.

Like a sheep to a shearing, like a lamb to be slaughtered,

he went—oh so quietly, oh so willingly.

Oppressed and condemned, he was taken away.

From this generation, who was there to complain?

Who was there to cry “Foul”?

He was, after all, cut off from the land of the living,

Smacked and struck, not on his account,

because of how my people (my people!)

Disregarded the lines between right and wrong.

They snuffed out his life.

And when he was dead, he was buried with the disgraced

in borrowed space (among the rich),

Even though he did no wrong by word or deed.

Yet the Eternal One planned to crush him all along,

to bring him to grief, this innocent servant of God.

When he puts his life in sin’s dark place, in the pit of wrongdoing,

this servant of God will see his children and have his days prolonged.

For in His servant’s hand, the Eternal’s deepest desire will come to pass and flourish.

As a result of the trials and troubles that wrack his soul,

God’s servant will see light and be content

Because He knows, really understands, what it’s about; as God says,

“My just servant will justify countless others by taking on their punishment and bearing it away.

Because he exposed his very self—

laid bare his soul to the vicious grasping of death—

And was counted among the worst, I will count him among the best.

I will allot this one, My servant, a share in all that is of any value,

Because he took on himself the sin of many

and acted on behalf of those who broke My law.”

We are instructed to see small miracles, everyday "signs and wonders..." Our Torah portion this week (Eikev) includes the commandment: “And you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land he has given you.” (Deut. 8:10). Whenever we derive benefit or enjoyment from something we are to bless (i.e., thank) God for his goodness. Jewish tradition says that if one eats or drinks without saying a blessing, it is as if he has stolen from God. From the verse, “What does the LORD ask of you...” (Deut. 10:12), the sages infer that a person should say at least 100 blessings a day, since the word מה, “what,” alludes to the word מאה, a “hundred.” The Hebrew term for gratitude is hakarat tovah (הַכָּרַת טוֹבָה), a phrase that means "recognizing the good." The heart looks through the eye, and therefore how we see is ultimately a spiritual decision: "If your eye is "single" (i.e., ἁπλοῦς, sincere, focused)," Yeshua said, "your whole body will be filled with light" (Matt. 6:22). When we see rightly, we are awakened to God's Presence in the little things of life, those small miracles and glories that constantly surround us. The good eye of faith sees hundreds of reasons to bless God for the precious gift of life (1 Cor. 10:31). Open your eyes... The LORD is "enthroned among the blessings of His people" (Psalm 22:3).

Addictions, cravings, lusts, etc., arise from a refusal to be satisfied, by hungering for more than the blessing of the present moment. "My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water" (Jer. 2:13). The living waters are present for us, but we will only find them if we open our hearts to the wonder of God in this moment. We can "break the spell" of continual dissatisfaction, of the power of greed, ambition, and so on, when we discover that our constant hunger is really a cry for God and His blessing. This is the blessed “hunger and thirst” given by the Spirit (Matt. 5:6). Our sense of inner emptiness is an invitation to come to the waters and drink life. So come to God's table and ask the Lord Yeshua to give you the water that will satisfy your heart's true thirst for life...

It is written: “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack” (Psalm 34:8-9). We can only “taste and see” when we are earnest however, when we seek God with passion... When you pray, lift up your heart and soul to God, asking for the miracle to surrender to Him in the truth. Where it says, "with all your heart" (בְּכָל־לְבָבְךָ), present before him all your passion and desires; your hopes and your needs, your fears and your anger; and where it says, "with all your soul" (וּבְכָל־נַפְשְׁךָ), offer before him your very soul, as if to be sacrificed in his service; and where it says, "with all your muchness" (וּבְכָל־מְאדֶךָ) offer to him all your strength, all your means, and all your dreams. Ask to be filled with the Ruach HaKodesh to be enabled to apprehend the glory of God in the face of the Messiah (בִּפְנֵי הַמָּשִׁיחַ), through whom we are being transformed for the glory of God. The Good Confession

“I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession.” (1 Timothy 6:13)

Young Timothy also had “professed a good profession [same word as ‘confession’] before many witnesses” (v. 12), evidently of similar substance and quality to that in the witness of Christ before Pilate. When the Jews urged Pilate to condemn Jesus to death, their charge was that “he made himself the Son of God” (John 19:7). Pilate gave Jesus opportunity to deny this charge and save His life, “but Jesus gave him no answer” (v. 9). Both by His silence, when a denial of the charge could have saved Him, and by His open testimony before Pilate that He was, in fact, a King from heaven itself—indeed “the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (1 Timothy 6:15)—it becomes clear that our own “good confession” must be a confession of our faith in Jesus Christ as Son of God, our Savior and Lord, especially when that confession is made openly before hostile witnesses.

Jesus said: “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32). Paul said, “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9); and John said, “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God” (1 John 4:15).

Despite the great blessings awaiting all who make a courageous and good confession of saving faith in Christ, most people will refuse until it is too late. There is a time coming, however, when “every tongue [will] confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:11). HMM
